A Little Lackluster

I purchased this product for a multi-room audio equipment rack. I mainly decided on this particular product because it was priced reasonably, It is rated for 20 amps which I wanted due to powering a couple of large amplifiers and having a dedicated 20 amp circuit already installed. And because of the Tripp-Lite name brand. I have an isolation transformer put out by the same company that I have used for years with no issues. Also I wanted something that would be a good quality surge protector without needless frills like many of the other products on the market.Initial impression was good. Item has some heft to it which is attributed to the significant mains cord attached to it which is 12AWG wire. Also all metal construction. It is also quite a bit smaller than I had expected only a few inches deep. One aspect not pictured is that the power switch has a small plastic cover on it like a little pill box or something you have to flip open to get to the switch. Nice idea, except that on the unit I received the power switch is not correctly sized for the cutout in the chassis, so it sort of "flops around" in the hole and opening the little pill box cover nearly pulls it out completely. I took the cover off to see if perhaps the cover they used was the problem but nope, It is just that the cutout is too large and the switch is of the variety that snaps in, so there is really no way to keep it in there snug.Inside the unit is pretty basic. A small PCB with some MOV's and other components on it that is shall i say "piggybacked" onto the back of the receptacle which is on the front of the unit. If this unit were two or three times the price I would feel cheated however considering the cost of this unit it is fairly well constructed. Minus the front power switch which will rarely ever get used anyway so I can overlook that manufacturing/design flaw.Also, this is made in CHINAIn Summation, Fairly priced. Decent joule rating for surge suppression and true 20amp capabilities. No frills power distribution/surge protector. If it was not for the power switch I would purchase again, however I would also shop around more.As another review stated you need to have a 20 amp outlet to use this as it is a NEMA 5-20 plug not the regular style NEMA 5-15
