5High Learning Curve - But Worth It
By Marc Ruby™
After using the Bench Dog fence for a while, I felt an urge for something with a bit more precision. Not that the Bench Dog was a bad fence, but I'm a sucker for accuracy, and the Incra Jig Ultra combined with the Wonder Fence offer solid, repeatable adjustments. After looking everything over at the store I decided to spend the admittedly steep price of admission.I'm not sure where the other reviewer's complaint comes from. Out of the box, without the LS extender, the Wonder Fence uses edge clamps, much like the Bench Dog. And it is ever bit as rigid as that fence as well. In the solo configuration the fence offer the kind of micrometer adjustments that one is used to in metal machining hardware. The two sides of the split fence can be adjusted independently, (depth and gap) which turns the average router table into a jointing and shaping station as well. The hi-rise fence cap works perfectly for panel raising and vertical milling as well. The real power of this fence becomes apparent when it is used with the Incra Jig Ultra with the LS-positioner. Now you can move the fence in 1/32" increments with 1000th of inch adjustments. This is a spooky level of accuracy in woodwork. The biggest drawback is the learning curve. Once you want the Incra set up to do more than be a simple fence, you have to learn how to use it, and everywhere you turn there are things to turn. Incra may have a talent for high-end accuracy, but as manual writers they are only so-so. Expect to put in some learning and experiment time. Then expect to go crazy making exotic joints.[Part VI of 'How to Build a Really Expensive Router Table']

5Pick the RIGHT tool for the Job
By Scott Gardner
I agree with Marc Ruby. I also have the Benchdog Pro Fence. It's a great fence but I wouldn't even attempt making double or double double joints with it. The Wonder Fence (combined with a positioner) on the other hand inspires confidence. And, while the installation manuals are not so great, if you get the (latest) Master Reference and templates they walk you through it step by step. If that's too tough get the DVD and they show you how to do it.You wouldn't use a machete where a scalpel is needed and you certainly wouldn't use a scalpel to try to cut through a jungle. Use the right tool for the job and the results will speak for themselves. On a final note their customer service is second to none. I had a couple minor issues that they responded to immediately and went above and beyond to help me solve. They did such a great job it compelled me to write this review. If you are thinking about getting into more intricate woodwork then Incra is the only way to go. I've looked at all the solutions. Theirs is the only one that provides repeatable precision on two axes (three if you throw in their router lift). For me all of this has inspired confidence on so many levels that I feel like I can make just about anything I want.

5Great Fence
By Tommy L. Binford
I use my Incra WonderFence with the LS17 positioner. It has been a fantastic product. I have never had a problem with feed pressure. I used three feather boards and routed 1000 lineal feet of 16 foot MDF 1x6 to make my own baseboards. I have used it to make simple bullnose pieces for my door trim as well and recently started using the tongue and groove bits. Setup is quick and easy. It is always repeatable. My positioner does allow the fence to move slightly in the plane of the table. This is a problem with the positioner not the WonderFence attachment. It does not allow the fence to move in or out, so the cuts are not affected. I would worry about this if I were using it as a rip fence for my tablesaw. The dust collection port works fine even if you only use a moderately powerful shop vacuum. However, I recommend getting a real dust collection system. Shavings will collect in the right tube of the fence.

5Works great for me, quality tool, accurate right out of the box.
By XY RN & Woodworker
I am a former contractor, and have owned a couple automatic levels over the years. This one worked fine right out of the box. I did the check to make sure it was calibrated properly, and it was accurate to within less than 1/16" which is quite adequate to any work that any carpenter is going to do.The only negative comment I have is with the locking levers on the included tripod. While the legs have never slipped on me, I'm a little worried the mechanism standing up over the long haul. The rest of the tripod looks like a quality build, but the leg locks are plastic, and look like they could break fairly easily.Overall, I would say this is a good product at a very good price. If you compare it to what Home Depot is selling, you will see that this is a better deal. Nikon has bright, clear optics, and with proper care, this instrument will last many years.

5Killer Accuracy, fantastic!
By AccuLevel
I noticed the comments about the guy with the tripod issue and can't beleive he even worried about it. The accuracy is the Nikon Auto Level not the tripod? I have had other Automatic Levels and this is absolutely the best as far as accuracy and super clear optics. You can't go wrong.

5Nikon is Number 1
By Nichol Wind
I bought this auto level package for my boy friend. He is a carpenter and told me Nikon was the best. He got it and loves it.The tripod says Spectra but all tripods are made by the same company. We did some research and Nikon and Spectra do NOT make tripods. All we know if the tripod that comes with this pacakge is high quality like the Nikon level. Thanks Amazon for helping me make my "beau" happy.

4Fast, fun, and delicious--but noisy as a lawnmower
By bensmomma
This is a fast fun delicious way to make ice cream, sorbets, frozen drinks, etc. Unless you pick a particularly complicated recipe, little more is involved than mixing ingredients together, turning the machine on, pouring the goop in, and waiting 20 or 30 minutes.

The ice cream is delicious but not as dense as, say, Haagen-Dazs, because the machine whips a little air into it. So it can taste like frozen chocolate-flavored whipped cream rather than "ice cream" per se. But hey what's not to like about frozen whipped cream, eh?

You will need to leave it for another hour or two in your freezer if you don't want a soft-serve-like texture. Another issue is that it will not make enough for a crowd. For that you would have to go to an old-fashioned hand-cranked model, I think.

Finally, the machine is extremely noisy. You will think you have moved your washing machine onto your kitchen counter.

But...especially if you have kids...no one will mind...yum!

5A terrific machine
By Laura Kenyon
I received this as a wedding present -- it's great! I love that you can make two flavors at the same time or double the amount of your favorite flavor. It's such a pleasure to churn out ice cream in your own kitchen; seeing an ice cream base transform into a frozen confection is a delight (plus you can control all the ingrediants that go into your mixture). My stepkids love to make --and eat-- the ice cream.

The one downside isn't the machine, it's the instruction/recipe booklet that comes with it. If you've never made ice cream before, then you should know that you need to allow a 1/4-inch of head space in the canister, and I don't think that was made abundently clear. (I figured it out pretty quickly, though, after some strawberry I.C. didn't freeze up well). Also, the few recipes I've tried are not the best; there's no point in creating homade ice cream (sorbet, sherbert) that doesn't taste great. I was given the "The Best Ice Cream Maker Cookbook Ever" by Peggy Fallon along with this machine; the recipes from her book are wonderful (try making the chocolate ice cream with Ghirardelli's semi-sweet chips).Good luck and enjoy your ice cream maker!

4great machine
By E Rice
i had been thinking about buying an ice cream maker for years, and the deal on this model convinced me.

its a very good machine. the base is surprisingly light-weight; the noise is not something you'd want to be in the same room with for the whole 20-25 minutes of chilling, but the machine doesn't require watching, so i just leave the room; the results are wonderful. even friends who have had the old-fashioned hand-cranked type of ice cream raved about the ice cream made with this machine.

the only reason i have not given it five stars is the dishwashing issue. i could accept that there is a reason that the paddles couldn't go into the dishwasher, but surely the covers could have been made of a dishwasher-safe plastic. both the paddles and the covers are very adward shapes, very difficult to wash by hand (for the paddles, that is after they've been licked, of course).

this is a minor complaint, since having this machine means i get to make ice cream with enough flavor and without seaweed (that's carrageenan), corn syrup or unpronounceable chemicals.

4Unbeatable value if you think just enough is enough.
By Neurostokaztik
This is not my first camcorder, but my 3rd.Its Hi8 recording format beats my previous other VHS-C and 8mm gear. Its optical system (22X zoom and large lens), allowing night-time low lux shots, has a surprising level of quality for its price. The Li-Ion battery and separate AC charger on international norm (takes 110-240 V) are lightweight but allow over 2 hours of shooting, ( and even if you switch on permanently the built-in torch, it's still over 1 hour). There is no LCD screen, but this is no big loss for me as I did not want one, due to their voracious power consumption. The color viewfinder with its crisp and bright image compensate for this.Besides, I do most of my video editing on my PC.For those who don't, it has a lot of predefined titles, shooting and transition modes, accessible in an easy to navigate menu. Most of my shooting situations are family events, so the 800X zoom will rarely be solicited, (therefore there's no need for an image stabilizer either)There are 2 big bonus, in my view : first is the off-center focusing (with a joystick tracking if needed) ; second is TV playback mode in PAL, required for most countries outside of US and Japan, so that I can immediately show my European friends the footage taken on *their* TV sets.I wanted a easy-to-use, quick-to-shoot camcorder, which would replace my digital cam (for still shots) and would at the same time let me record more than 1 hour of video at a good definition and framerate (not the ridiculous postage stamp format), since it's now easy to transfer to a PC (via my TV board) and re-encode it into MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 and burn a VCD. I wanted it to weight no more than a small digital cam, battery included, and I wanted to spend as little money on it as possible. This cute, compact, Canon ES75 meets these well-defined needs, and the surprise bonus is Canon quality for this "toy" price.

5Best value for a Hi8 camcorder
By Gadgester
This is my second Canon camcorder. I loved my first, an ES970 that uses the regular 8mm format. After giving it to my uncle, I was shopping around for a new one when I saw this on Amazon. The price is right, and my very positive experience with the ES970 made it easy to order two of these, one for my parents.

Both my parents and I love this camcorder. It's very easy to use -- no manual needed for the common functions. Even my mom can use it after I gave her a 1-minute lesson. The buttons are easy to reach and feel solid. The 22x optical zoom is the best in the industry, perhaps of any consumer camcorders sold in the States. I haven't tried the digital zoom yet, since I believe digital zoom, in general, is useless.

The included LiIon battery is good, but I recommend buying an extended battery if you plan to go on a trip. My ES970's older-style NiMH battery lasted about 2 years before showing degraded capacity. The Canon LiIon batteries will probably last longer.

This is a great camcorder, perfect for any family. Don't buy into the digital camcorder hype if you aren't going to edit your videos on a PC anyway. This Canon's price makes it deserve 10 stars.

5Great value on an excellent product.
By bixodoido
This is my first hi8 camcorder, though I've had a couple of the old VHS ones before. I was waiting to get one of these until the value caught up with the technology and I could get a high-quality camcorder at an affordable price. Then this little number came along.

The thing I like most about this camera is its color viewfinder. To me, that is a good tradeoff for not having a larger LCD screen, because those typically drain your battery much faster. This was a good compromise--I can see things in color without cutting my film time short.

This camcorder is loaded with special features, and has a 700 power digital zoom! With it you can get as close to something as you want. You only need to rest your filming arm on something or get a tripod--otherwise you won't be able to hold the picture steady.

A Canon is always a good bet for a camera or camcorder, and they have definitely not let me down with this one. If you're looking for a good bargain but still want a respectable brand and some special features, look no further than the Canon ES75.

4A good camera for a good price.
By A Customer
I recently purchased this camcorder from amazon and I am quite happy with it. Before I bought this, I used an RCA camcorder that I was satisfied with. However, the RCA used VHS C tapes that weren't very good quality. I shopped around looking at different cameras. The digital cameras are the newest, and eventually will probably be the way to go, but the good ones are up around $1000+. Then I came across this camera and I decided to buy it. I am very happy with the features on this camera, especially the 22x optical zoom. I usually find myself zooming in often because at the extreme wide angle position, you do lose some picture quality. Also, the digital effects are fun to play with; I especially like the negative conversion. Another nice feature is that the playback also lets you hear sound. The image stabilizer is very helpful as well, especially in telephoto. Also, people have been saying that the LCD could be bigger, but I think that a screen much bigger than that would drain the battery very fast. The built in video light is very nice too. As much as I do like the camera, there are a few cons. First of all, the view finder could be in color, I often find mysef using the view finder on sunny days, because the LCD gets glared. Also, I wish there was a way to turn off the microphone when you don't want sound. Also, there is no way to program your own titals into the camera. The pre-set titals are too general, and I can't program in the ones I want. Another thing is that the 800x digital zoom isn't all what it is said to be. When you zoom into the digital zoom, immediately you see diminishing picture quality, and if you zoom in 800 times, the pictures are grainy that you can't distinguish the picture. But the zoom is nice at the low stages of it. Overall, I am very happy with this camcorder, and I am enjoying it. I highly recommend this camera to anyone who is seeking out a good camcorder for a good price.

4Picture Qua;ity
By Donald W. Erickson
I read the other review which said that the picture was grainy. More so than a Sony camera of comparable qualty. I took pictures in good light and found that the video quality was excellent in normal and telephoto shooting. I used Hi8 video tape. The picture was grainy only in low light situations. In a low light situation I don't plan to take videos, although the lens is light sensitive enough to take such pictures. I have several other camcorders of different models and types and this camera stands up with the best of them. It is also small and very easy to carry and take pictures... I plan to keep it. It is an excellent camcorder.

3Pretty Good But There are Better for the Same Price
By A Customer
I recently bought the Canon 8400 after having a Sony CCD 8 mm (non HI-8 format) for 5-6 years, which was great. Here are the Canon's Pros: It's small and light weight. It has a light and image stabilization. It has a LCD screen. It has a high power zoom.

Canon's Cons: Compared to the Sony, I'm a little disappointed in the picture quality. Although the zoom is easy to use, the picture quality was fairly grainy, even at what I would consider relatively short distances (15-20 feet). I frankly don't think it's any better than the Sony non-Hi-8 format. Also, the 2.5" LCD screen is too small.

I think if I were buying again, I would look more seriously at the Sony's. The comparable price point Sony model didn't have image stabilization; however, that feature I now realize isn't as important as picture quality.

5A great typewriter
By KM
I received this for a gift and am extremely happy with it. I love to write short stories but often have writer's block, so I'm excited to have a new format. The best part about this typewriter is that even though it's electronic, it still makes the familiar old "clacking" sound as you type, and has the familiar typewriter font--really sets the mood for creative writing. I wouldn't have expected a typewriter to have spell-check, but this one does--it makes a little dinging sound if you spell a word incorrectly, and gives you the ability to erase one letter, the word, or an entire line with the (included and already installed) correction tape. You can adjust the positioning of the paper yourself with the knob on the side, which would be helpful when filling out forms. Includes a keyboard cover to keep dust out of the keys, and a carrying handle. Overall, the typewriter is easy to set up and use.

4Brother SX-4000 Typewriter
By Beekay
Although the bulk of my typing these days is on a computer (Microsoft Word), a typewriter fills a much needed gap--for typing on pre-printed forms, application forms, odd-sized pieces of paper, etc. When my old Xerox Memorywriter finally went to typewriter heaven after 20 years I was looking for a reasonably priced electronic typewriter and the Brother SX-4000 meets my needs perfectly. It has all the features of more expensive machines, like display, half-backspace, bold type, to state a few "bells and whistles." I confidently recommend this machine for personal needs.

5Very Good Typewriter for the Money
By David W. Bobb
If there are times when a computer just won't do, this is a great typewriter for the money. Despite the many features it has, it is very easy to learn to use and I have had no maintenance problems whatsoever. I purchased it to take the DC Bar Exam and it worked well over 6 hours of intensive use. The only issue I noticied was when typing in the Line Print mode, sometimes the words would merge together leaving a non-sensical word. Overall though, it held up well and performed up to expectations for my needs. Certainly a good product for the money.
