5The paper
By Kate
After reading many reviews I was skeptical about what to expect from this paper. I am a graphic designer and I wanted paper for my portfolio. In the title it is called "glossy" but many of the reviews said that the paper wasn't very glossy. I was looking for a semi-gloss paper but was having issues finding it in 11 x 17 or larger. This was perfect. It is not glossy, but it is not matte. It's more of a semi-gloss. Its not as thin as regular paper, but not as thick as posterboard. Its the inbetween.

3Too dull to be called glossy...
By Vee
The HP Brochure and Flyer Paper is a good product but I would consider this paper to be more semi-glossy than actual glossy paper. It's a cross between matte and glossy. For supposed glossy paper, the finish is a bit dull and doesn't have the luster that my other glossy media has. However, the quality of the paper is pretty good. But just keep in mind that if it's a shimmery or shiny type of paper you're looking for, this isn't it.

5Curses upon LEGO!!
By Joe Del Vecchio
Sometimes I wonder how it is that those shifty geniuses at LEGO perpetually take my hard earned money. Then I come across sets like Lord Vader here, and I'm reminded- because these toys rock. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, there should be little doubt in any of our minds that the greatest minds in the world are not curing cancer or ending world hunger, they're coming up with absolutely perfect LEGO sets like this one to thin our wallets and expand our smiles. From the groovy pearl lightsaber handle (kinda like what C-3PO was molded in, only white)to the astonishing arm mechanisms, this is (dare I say it) the best Star Wars Technic set yet. My, how soft his cape is; the chain, the helmet, the breastplate (that truly rabid collectors will note looks a whole lot like one of the new Bionicle Bohrok pieces... the joy of this set is in the details.Buy one- Buy it NOW! It looks awesome, it plays soooo well, it's a blast to build, and altogether your collection just can't be complete without one.

4A great puzzle
By M. Ragen
The Darth structure was hard to evaluate. On the one hand, the construction directions were pretty complicated for this toy -- I was called in for consulting advice more than a few times and, at least once, I was called in to provide some muscle when putting a couple of parts together. There aren't any standard lego blocks in this toy as these are more construction-oriented. On the other hand, the standard Lego kits have become pretty easy for our 10-year old and this provided an extra challenge for him that was worth it. Once built, it's reasonably durable - in our house, it even held together with minor repairs when our 7-year old was curious if it could 'fly' from the bedroom window. I knocked it down a point because it's not very flexible - I thought there should be some range of motion for movement. Overall, I thought that this was a good toy, worth recommending.

5Of the lego figures, this one is the best one!
By E. Chapa
This figure was the most fun to build. Each major part of Vader (head, arms, etc) is in it's own bag so you don't have to go searching throught multiple places for pieces. His right arm holds his lightsaber that you can move up and down while the left arm can be used for grabbing things.

The book is nicely laid out showing you what part you end up building, step by step instructions for each part as well as scale diagrams of select pieces so you don't use the wrong one(some parts are similar but different lengths).

For kids, it'll probably be best to have an adult help just because of the amount of pieces (around 400) and maybe helping them put the decals that go on the torso at the end.

He's really neat to look at, but his legs don't move. He's great-looking next the stormtrooper :-). For those who love Star Wars and Lego, this is an awesome combination.

3The best choice, but not the best it could be
By Carlgo
A drum sander is a pretty basic machine; a sandpaper conveyer belt moves the wood under a spinning cylinder/drum that is covered in replaceable sand paper. Tensioned rollers keep the wood pressed down on the conveyer so it doesn't slip. The drum can be moved up and down to apply the proper sanding depth. The problems some reviewers have had with this machine are:1. There is a problem adjusting the tracking of the conveyer belt, which is like a giant portable belt sander. The belt can drift to one side or the other. The front roller is adjustable so the belt stays centered. To facilitate this adjustment, Performax has included clever little captive wrenches built into the frame of the conveyer assembly. This should make the adjustment easy. However, mine drifted to the left and adjusting it had no effect. I ended up completely loosening all the adjusters, and starting over again. This time the belt centered and it was easy to adjust exactly to where it was supposed to be.I suspect that the belt, which after all is 16" wide, might have been just a hair out of square and all the adjusting served to stretch it out to a perfect rectangle. I believe the problem is that some belts may be more out of square than others. The actual mechanism is unlikely to be defective.2. Adjusting the sanding drum so it is parallel to the conveyer belt is obviously important, but it is not easy to do. There is a knob that you turn to move the outer end of the drum up and down until it is set correctly. However, one must loosen 4 (!) bolts to free the assembly so it will move and then tighten them to hold it in place. The act of tightening them moves the adjustment out of place. If you are a zillionith of an inch off on the inside, then you are way off 16" away on the outboard end. One can spend a lot of time messing with this.Amazon recommends setting the outer end a teeny bit up when sanding panels wider than the drum. This will result in a high spot in the middle of the panel which is better than low spots or grooves caused by the outer end of the drum digging into the wood. However, adjusting the drum is such a pain that most people will be content to set it once and leave it. I set mine to be just a tiny bit up, an unmeasureable amount. I send my boards destined for glue-up twice through on the final sanding , turned around the second time, so that each board side is equally thick on all edges.3. Replacing the sandpaper just takes a little practice. Clearly, it must be installed properly to work well. The paper rolls onto the drum and each end is secured by little levered clips in the ends of the drum. A little tool is supplied to loosen the inbord clip, but I find that just just reaching and pulling it up with a finger is easier.4. Some users have problems with the drum motor overload breaker popping. Pushing the reset button starts it up again. This is all by design so that you do not try to sand off more than you should in one pass or set the conveyer belt speed too high. You must sand at a shallow depth and at low feed rate. If you think the sanding process is too slow and get impatient, just think of hand sanding. Even set at a crawl, the machine is way faster than you. All this depends on the grit, the kind wood, the width of the wood as well as the conveyer speed and the depth of cut.I am careful to set a shallow sanding depth and a pretty slow feed rate and so I rarely have to reset it. If it does pop I just slow down the conveyer belt some more. This is a small machine with limited horsepower for small shops. There is a reason they make those 30 hp one-ton units. Like Norm's.4. Some have complained about slop in the drum adjuster. The crank that moves the drum up and down has a lot of play in it so it is hard to feel how much actual adjustment is going on when the crank is turned. Tactile feel is very important when you are trying to adjust things just a hair. These sorts of measurements are too small to show up on the depth guage. The adjuster should be equiped with an adjustable friction device. Several of my small tools have that feature and clearly a $1000 machine should. And I really miss an adjustable positive depth stop like my Makita planer. This would allow for a repeatable final sanding depth.5. Snipe has been reported as a problem and it is. It is very difficult to hold the wood perfectly level as it enters and exits the drum. Setting up multiple roller stands is not easy and others have mentioned that the optional in and out-feed tables are difficult to level as well. Some sort of built-in support is necessary for this machine to work properly. The tables, or other devices, should have been built in to the design and included in the price. This should not have been an option. It is like making the tires optional on a car. Speaking of options, I have a new Grizzly 6" jointer that came with built-in wheels. Very nice. Really quite necessary for the small shop. Aftermart wheels are available elsewhere. So, what is my advice? This machine can be adjusted to function perfectly. When it is set up properly it is indeed a very useful and important tool. The problem is that the adjustments are too difficult and so many machines are out of adjustment and simply do not work as they should. In addition, not including the tables introduces an unnecessary cheap and greedy factor.Performax is clearly not losing any money selling these units for $1000. Add on the the price of sandpaper and options and it is an even more costly option for the small shop. A tweak to the drum depth adjuster, a redesign of the drum levelling mechanism, a positive stop for the sanding depth, incorporating feed tables and making the stand mobile are really simple and inexpensive upgrades that lucky owners in the future hopefully will enjoy. I note that Grizzly now has a comparable consumer model and I suspect other manufactorers will enter the market. That competition will hopefully lower the price and increase the utility. The whole idea of smoothing wood with rocks glued to fabric seems sort of strange, really. Perhaps the future will bring lasers or microwaves or something modern. In the meantime, be aware that sanders create a lot of dust, the fine and dangerous kind, much worse than shavings and such. I looked into shop dust control, hoping to get a simple vacuum, and found a whole confusing and expensive anti-dust world out there. A portable vac is not the best thing to use for high volumns of fine dust. Big dust collectors, cyclones and those sorts of things are more appropriate for this machine, but are very speciallized and expensive. I use the screaming Sears vac now (are all Sears product planners deaf?), but for many reasons that will have to change.I can't go below 3 stars if, in the end, the machine actually performs as it should, but the inconvenience and cheapness factors noted above and in other reviews cost it a couple of stars.

5Precision Sanding at its Best
By David Lindamood
I've been "looking" at this drum sander for the past few years, and finally bought it about 2 months ago, and the only thing I regret is that I did not buy it sooner! I can't remember how to prep lumber without this machine. The machine is very heavy, about 150 pounds shipping weight. The UPS man was kind enough to help me by unloading it into my garage shop. Set up took about 90 minutes, the instuction book was very detailed and the pictures were very helpful. The stand is very strong and steady, the casters are large enough to really move around on the concrete floor. The hardest part about the setup is the leveling of the drum to the conveyor belt. I had to do it twice before it was exact. The first time I did not use good judgment, I used a wooden board to help align the drum. In testing the first piece out, it was off quite a bit. I then followed the instuctions, and used a metal level on edge, and the results were well within the .010 inch tolererance as stated in the manual. That all said and done, and after setting up the dust collection system to the 4" overhead port, I was ready to start sanding. I do a lot of resawing for the scroll saw, and this drum sander should be a staple for resawing. Each 1/4 turn of the control handle moves the drum 1/64", making it very easy to control the depth of "cut". You control the speed of the belt from about a rate of 1 foot/minute to 100 feet per minute. So depending on the type of sandpaper grade and hardness of wood, you control the speed and depth of cut.The nice feature of the unit is it only takes about 2 minutes to change the sandpaper from the drum to another grade and you are back in business again. So it is very quick and easy to change paper as you prep the lumber. The first few passes in 80 grit (depending on how well the resawing operation went), then switch to 120 and finally a pass at 180. The only warning on the sanding process, make sure the grain is going with the sander, this is NOT a vibrating hand sander. With the measurement indicator on the side of the sander, you can consistently sand to the same thickness, time after time, board after board.I am very happy and pleased with the Performax 16-32 Drum Sander. I am now doing a lot more resawing (saving money), not just when I have to because of lumber availability. No issues, No problems. Just a nice sanding operation and quick change sandpaper.UPDATE: MARCH 7, 2007;I have been using this sander for over 5 years now, and not one performance issue. It is used about an average of 10 hours per week, sanding down the re-sawed wood from the band saw. It is still very precise and accurate in terms of measurements. It is consistent with the final quality product. One of my best buys for the shop.

5So far So good!
By GB Guitars
The Performax Sander was easy to assemble, it went together in one evening after dinner. Just be sure to follow all the instructions in order or else you'll be taking the conveyer belt on and off a lot. The conveyer belt seemed to track perfectly right out of the box. Also, the sanding drum was parallel to the conveyor right out of the box.

I had one very minor problem. The conveyer belt has a speed dial that is also it's "off" switch. when I turned the dial fully counter clockwise there was just the slightest "click". You could feel it more than hear it. Althought the dial clicked the conveyer belt would not fully stop. I took the control box apart (4 screws) and saw that the speed control was slightly bent out of alignment. I adjusted it and the detent of the click was much more pronounced and the conveyer belt now stops fully when it's in the off position. Total time of fix: about 5 minutes.

I bought the Performax Sander to help build guitars but I'll be sanding a chess board tonight. I'm sure it will make life a LOT easier. Trying to sand chessboards by hand always leaves ripples. This machine should allow me to sand it FLAT to 220 grit and then I can use my orbital sander to smooth it out for the finish.

If you buy this I would suggest also buying the castor set so you can move the machine around more easily. It's a bit heavy when assembled and unless you have a space on both the input and output side you'll need to be able to move it around. Also, the small amount that I've used it already has me wanting to buy the infeed/outfeed table assesories. You should also get a sanding belt cleaning "eraser" (as described in the video that comes with the machine). Some woods tend to clog the sandpaper and the belt cleaner will extend the life of your belts.

5Great canopy, but compare all models before buying
By SE
I bought this from Amazon Warehouse at a discount since it had a damaged shipping box. The canopy arrived in great shape, but was missing the roller bag (presumably it was lost when the box was torn open). I did an online web chat directly with E-Z UP, and they sent me a replacement right away without charging me for the bag or shipping. Excellent top notch service from E-Z UP!The canopy is very nice, very well made, and similar to all other E-Z UP canopy products in design. However, since this is the first one I have personally owned and looked at carefully while assembling it, there are two things about this model that surprised me.First, it is surprisingly heavy. I don't think my wife could carry it. The case has wheels, so she could probably wheel it to the car and get it in the trunk, but it would be tough for her to lift and move around otherwise. I have setup friends' canopies, but never really moved them around, so I don't know if this model is any heavier than others [I have since looked at several brands and models--this one has a heavier duty steel structure which makes it heavier, and it is relatively large for a portable canopy]. I was just surprised by how hefty this model was. [I have since received a sarcastic remark on Amazon comments indicating that "44 pounds" isn't heavy. It actually weighs over 50 pounds, which to me, is more than I want to carry around for more than a few feet--this isn't a weightlifting contest. My point was: Try lugging around a 50 pound object the next time you go camping, to the beach, or to a picnic in a park. Try dragging 50 pounds across 500 feet of sand at the beach with your umbrella, chairs, ice chest, towels, blankets, sand toys, and two kids. If it isn't being setup within 30 feet of my trunk, or there isn't a nice smooth path to roll the thing along, I'm not bringing this canopy.]Second, the main "arch" beams on this model only have a single hinge in the center. This means that they look somewhat weak or flimsy, as they are relatively long and pivot around a single small screw. When the canopy is put up, these long arms aren't all straight or properly aligned. Not a big deal since the canopy isn't supporting any weight, but it looks like a weak spot in an otherwise very well built product. This might be the same design used by most / all models, but just an observation. These long arms also seem to make putting up the canopy very hard, as you have to put a lot of upward pressure on each corner to get the arch to expand fully. And it's extremely difficult for one person to put this canopy up--I did it by myself and it was very tedious and laborious working in circles to move each corner outward gradually. 2-4 people make the process much easier. But once it is up, it's great. The fabric is nice and tight and held on well with the velcro at each corner. And the canopy is very stable and solid. The fabric is pretty tough, well sewn, and should hold up well.Taking the thing down and putting it away is much easier, and can be done by one person in a few minutes. I had the thing back in the bag in maybe 10 minutes. If you remove the fabric top, just make sure to pay attention how to fold the fabric to get it back in the bag. It's not difficult or complex, just spend a few seconds looking at the folds when you unpack it, and it will save you time putting it away.I got a good price on this particular Pyramid model, but one frustration I had when shopping was that E-Z UP (and Amazon) seems to have limited information about the different models that are available, so I wasn't sure which one I wanted and what the pros / cons were of the different models. I would recommend doing more shopping and research, as it may help you make a more informed purchase based on your needs. It's exactly what I wanted for outdoor family events, outdoor recreation activities, camping, etc. I would have preferred a white model instead of the bright blue, but since I got this from Amazon Warehouse at a discount, I didn't have a choice on the color.Again, based on my experience, the customer service at E-Z UP is top notch, so I have zero concerns about support, service, or getting replacement / repair parts in the future. I'll be using it this weekend at a family get together, so I'll try and take some photos to post.UPDATE 1: Since using my canopy a few times, I'm now paying attention to other canopies that I see to compare them. Here's what I've learned so far:1. The 10' model is pretty big for portable canopies. If you don't need one that large, you can save weight and perhaps cost by going with a smaller one.2. This canopy is all steel, and heavy duty, which is why it is heavy. I saw some aluminum models at the beach, and those are presumably significantly lighter, although the aluminum may not be as strong or durable as the steel.3. I've added some photos.4. Regarding the other review that gives 1 star and says the canopy broke after 5 uses, I think I've made it clear that the E-Z UP customer service is excellent. If something breaks, I would call, e-mail, or do an online chat with them. Based on my experience, they'll work to resolve the problem.12/10/2012: UPDATE 2: I attended an outdoor class in the mountains recently and the 30% chance of intermittent rain forecast turned out to be 100% chance of rain all day long. We spent 7 hours in the pouring rain, and luckily I brought my E-Z UP so we were all able to huddle under it during breaks. Everyone was grateful that I brought it, and it kept all of our gear dry. And I was thankful that I had the 10 foot model, since it was plenty big enough to completely cover a picnic table with room to spare. The canopy was fantastic in the rain. The canopy material repels water, or is coated with silicone, so the rain just rolled right off and didn't leak through the fabric. However, there is a stitched seam in the middle of the canopy, and the stitching holes did let water through. It was minimal--just light dripping, but it may be something you'll want to address before relying on it in the rain. After my rain day, I picked up some Coleman Seam Sealer (the most recommended, due to its applicator on the bottle) from the local wally world camping section and thoroughly coated both sides of the stitched seam (just make sure to let it dry thoroughly). The sealer remains slightly visible and looks kind of ugly if you look closely, but I doubt you could tell from 10 feet away, and nobody will care if it is raining and the E-Z Up is keeping them dry.I have another outdoor class this weekend, and the forecast is 40% chance of showers, so this time I'm ready.I love this canopy. In the short time I've had it and few times I've used it, it's been well worth the investment.April 2013: UPDATE 3: In late December 2012, I took the Pyramid II out to the desert. There was light rain in the morning that the canopy handled with ease. But in the afternoon, the wind picked up. I used 10" nails as stakes and tons of paracord to tie the canopy down. It all worked quite well until the wind hit 40+ mph in the late afternoon. The entire canopy was lifting off the ground and it took two guys just to hold it down, keep it from flying away, and disassemble it. I thought the canopy would be destroyed, but it held on like a champ. One portion of the fabric that was constantly flapping in the wind and rubbing against the frame had a 3" hole worn in it. And the force of the wind caused the frame to move so much that it bent two of the "struts" on one side. But it folded right up and didn't fail on me. EZ-UP has replacement parts available for order on their web site (at ezupdirect dot com), but the Pyramid II struts were always out of stock--the web site doesn't let you back order. I finally called them and they back-ordered the parts for me. I received the fabric repair kit and one set of struts, but am still waiting on the second type of strut--it seems that repair parts for their consumer models can be difficult to obtain. But my canopy has now been through pouring rain and punishing wind and survived with minor battle scars. I've definitely gotten my money's worth out of this canopy.

5Best canopy I've seen!
By Ames Flames and Customs
I use my canopy for my business, and after going through 2 other brands and being disappointed I decided it time to spend a little more for a better quality canopy. The E-Z Up brand did not disappoint!

4Good Solid Canopy
By Douglas Turner
This is a good solid canopy. I have used it several times and it goes up pretty easy, though I think it is best put up by four people. It is sturdy in a moderate breeze. I wouldn't use it in strong winds. The fabric provides good shade and seems pretty durable. The wheels on the storage bag are much appreciated as it is a little heavy for one person to carry.

Krusty the Clown talking doll! Just like the one in the Simpsons episode. This is one of the newest exclusive Simpsons items - Talking Krusty! Krusty is 14" tall with a vinyl head and plush body. There's a hidden switch on his back that can be switched to "good" or "evil". Switch him to "good" and he says five different friendly phrases! But switch him to "evil" and he says 5 different naughty phrases! Comes packaged in a window display box. Krusty is a Diamond Comics and Spencer's exclusive, so you won't be able to find him at all toy stores.

5This Doll is the Bomb!
By Luis Hernandez
"Great Ceasar's Ghost, a talking Krusty Doll!" Those were the words Bart Simpson uttered when he received his very own talking Krusty the Clown doll in the famous "Treehouse of Terror" episode of the Simpsons. Every year, the Simpsons Halloween special is a no-holds bar episode that doesn't need to follow the general storyline of the series, and in season three of the long running series, in a segment titled "A Clown Without Pity," Bart is given a talking Krusty doll by Homer on his birthday. However, the doll is an evil doll bent on killing Homer.

Well, finally someone had the intelligence to release a real talking Krusty doll for Simpsons fans to enjoy as much as they did in the series. Following the segment's inside jokes, the dolls has a "good" and "evil" switch which allows the user to switch the phrases Krusty says. On the good side, Krusty says the words and phrases he used in the exact segment ("I'm Krusty the Clown, and I love you very much"; "Here you Go Buddy"; "Hey, Hey [followed by laughter]; "Coming Home to you makes it all worthwhile.") On the evil side Krusty says four not too nice phrases ("What have you done for me lately?"; "You sir are an idiot"; "Shut your hole!"; "Come on, move it!").

If you are a Simpsons fan, this doll is a must have. When I first found it on Amazon, I knew that I must have it in my collection. Since there the company released a limited amount of these dolls, I highly recommend that you buy yours soon before they become history. It's truly worth every cent!
