5Excellent Deal
By John
I graduated to this set after using a Henckels Fine Edge set. While this is the standard of the Wusthof line, the Henckels Fine Edge is the low end of Henckels and therefore cannot be compared. However, this set is of excellent quality and performance. The price has gone up since I purchased my set, but I still think this is a good deal. The chef' knife is on the small side, but the block has a few extra slots to expand the collection. My next purchase will probably be a Wusthof Classic Santoku or larger chef's knife.

5THESE ARE A GREAT SET OF KNIVES!
By A Customer
These knives were exactly what I needed. I was looking for a 6" Chefs knife, a tomato knife, a good paring knife, and shears in a block set and this was it!

My previous set of knives were a set of stamped Henckels (I didn't know any better) and I thought they were great compared to the hand-me-down knives my Mother past on to me (miscellaneous mismatched knives of all kinds). But then I started noticing the quality looking knives they were using on the cooking shows and decided to try one. I ordered a Santuko Granton Edge knife. It's a great knife but I don't use it as much as I thought I would. What I did learn by buying it though was the difference between stamped knives and good quality forged knives. I liked it so much I bought these and all I can say is WOW they are nice.

First of all they are sharp! They cut through meat like butter and the tomato knife is sharper than it looks (I was slowing cutting through a tomato and sliced a bit into my finger, ouch!) They feel like strong sharp quality knives in your hand and they look so classy sitting on my counter in the quality oak block they came in.

There are three extra slots to put future knife purchases in but you will not be able to put a bigger chefs knife in the block. The 6" chefs knife slot is the biggest(widest) slot in the block. I bought the 9" bread knife to go in the set and that fits perfectly. Anything as slim as the bread knife (but not any longer than 9") or slimmer would fit fine.

So, if you are looking for a GREAT buy on a QUALITY set of SHARP, CLASSY looking knives, buy these. You will not be disappointed:-)

5GREAT for the price
By Liberty 4
$219 for a seven piece set of forged steel? with room for more knives? bought seperately on amazon these would have cost me $350 plus. I love the serrated 5 inch knife, perfect for tomatoes. the 4.5 inch utility knife threw me: i have one i bought from a cooking school almost 2 yrs ago. I swear my old one is heavier, and the blade thicker and edged on both sides. the NEW 4.5 inch has less of an edge, is lighter and the blade seems thinner. and in 2 weeks of use it aquired a miniscule bend to the tip, as if it were stamped (tho it's not). the obvious diifference between the new and old is that the new has a little "tic tac toe" graphic on it with the alloy specs underneath. does anyone know what this means? does this indicate a newer generation of the knife? none of the others in the block have this. I'm giving away the new 4.5 and keeping my old

2I loved it, until I needed service
    By A Customer
As the owner of Cuisinart food processor for more than 20 years, when it came time to upgrade it was a no-brainer...another Cuisinart. I had received excellent customer service in the past when a part developed cracks.

Now, under new ownership, it's a whole new story. I had my new model for less than a month when it developed numerous cracks in the pusher assembly. I called customer service (by the way, the number in the manual was not a working number) and I was told they would send me a new part only after I sent them the defective one, and there would be a delay of about two weeks, not counting shipping (plan on another two weeks). This was their unbendable rule. I told them this was not acceptable, that I did not want to be without the use of the equipment for a month, especially with the holidays coming up. Sorry, that's the rule, is what I was told. Then I wrote to the President of Conair (the parent company) and the VP/GM of the Cuisinart division, and asked them to contact me for assistance in resolving this issue. A month has passed as I write this, and I have not heard from either of them.

I took the equipment back to the store where I purchased it, and exchanged it for a KitchenAid food processor, which was less expensive, and works beautifully. I did my research this time, and they have a reputation for excellent customer service should I need it.

The Cuisinarts are good, solid appliances, but if you ever need customer service, it's an uphill battle. If you decide to buy a Cuisinart, be sure to buy at a store that will stand behind the products they sell.

5Love me, Love my food processor!!
    By A. Day
I got this (in white) as an early B-Day gift that I picked out. I got it on ebay for 30% off amazons price. My only processor experience prior to this is a little 2 cup black and decker model that I got for Christmas. which ws very limited with what to do with it.But I liked the Idea and thought about the possibilities of what A "real" one could do! I live in a little po dink town in the middle of nowhere and there are to say the least no department stores or any thing that sells good kithchen appliances. So when looking for a food processor I was entirely doing my research and comparisons online. After reading reviews and comparing products and prices I came down to choosing between 2 food processors. This one and the KitchenAid KFP670. At first it was a close call because of the extra stuff that comes with the KitchenAid. However I was absolutely sure that I had made the right decision when I actually saw the KitchenAid 670 in person about 45 miles away at a dept. store. What truly sold me on my Cuisinart in addition to it's power, additional blades ect. was the huge feed tube. The Kitchenaid's tube looked so small compared to mine and you may not think that it would be a big deal but even though I had only had mine for a few days the big tube made a big difference. For instance I can stick a whole potato in mine and make instant hashbrowns or fries. with the KitchenAid you would have to cut up the potato first and fries... please, it may have the disc but who wants dinky little bits. Also I made stir fry steak. I was utterly amazed at how it handled it so well. and becaue of the large feed tube I could put a bunch of meat in the at one time and it took all of 2 seconds to slice the steak into 4 mm slices .. Wow!!! I even used the dough blade to make the cheese bread in the cookbook which was so fast to make and yumm GOOD! I like the safety features on this machine, the sturdiness,The extra blades that are available, the power, the style, and love the big feed tube. I am I first generation food processor owner and Will never go back!! I highly reccomend this food processor

2It's not the Cuisinart you used to know!
    By Wiley
Times have changed and so has the parent company that sells and services your food processor. The quality of materials and workmanship have gone downhill too!My experience with the corporate machine was horrible. Days of long waits to talk to a customer service rep...never paid off. Each time I called I was eventually forwarded to a recorded message that explained that they were too busy and that I needed to leave my name and phone number. I never did get a call-back. Finally, after several attempts, I was able to get past the initial phone queue and actually talked to a live person who took the information about the condition of all the clear plastic parts on the processor. They were all severely cracked and were not far from flying apart. It seems they knew of the problem and offered to replace the parts on warranty. All I had to do was give them a credit card number to charge the shipping to. AND, nothing would happen UNTIL I sent the old pieces back...again at MY expense.I sent the parts back promptly, but they didn't ship for another two weeks. And, here is the highlight of the episode... The lid they sent was the wrong one. Another round of phone calls yielded a person that said that Cuisinart had not processed the replacement yet...a full two weeks after they were notified. I still have not received the lid and the processor is useless without it.BEWARE! This company tries to sell their products in the top-end of the price range, but their corporate customer service system is as bad as it gets...at any price. You can do yourself a favor and shop for another brand. I'm looking at KitchenAid. Shucks, it can't be any worse...and MAY be a much better experience over the long run.

5Great Knives, Try Them Out Before You Buy Though
    By W. L. Holder
I recently purchased the Wustof Classic set after much research between the various Wustof, Henkel and Messermeister models. In general, I felt the Wustof's had a much nicer feel and balance to them. I also prefered the blade weight and thickness of the Wustof. I personally prefer the Classic over the Grand Prix, but it is 100% personal preference as the only real difference is the handles.I compared the Wustof's with the other brands at one of the knife stores in the mall. Comparing them side-by-side was very enlightening and made my mind up that I will only buy the Wustof's from now on. I highly recomend going to one of the mall knife shops and playing with them, most have a wide selection of all of the high quality knives. For this kind of money it is the only wise way to make your decision. I would recomend purchasing from Amazon.com though, the knife stores I went to were about 25% more expensive unless they had a "sale" on a specific item, in which case it was the same price as Amazon.com.These are one of the best knives you can get, although they are no better than the other models and makes. All knives at this level are top quality, please base your decision on preference and try them out first.***Update*** It is almost 2011 now and this set is still in my kitchen. Regular use of the steel in the set, along with a couple sharpenings, and this set is still sharp and used daily. Highly recomended. Its been over 5 years of use now and there is no degradation of performance or appearance. Every year that goes by the hefty purchase price of them gets smaller and smaller when looked at versus less expensive sets that would have had to be replaced by now.

5You'll never buy another set of knives!
    By K. Harvey
My husband and I received this knife set for our wedding to replace a cheap set we've had since college. My husband is more of a cook than I am, so I was skeptical when he decided to add the knives to our registry because I thought the old ones were good enough.Boy, was I pleasantly surprised when I started chopping vegetables and slicing through meat! The balance of these knives is incredible, and it's such a nice change to let the knives do all of the work of cutting instead of having to hack my way through my food. Cooking has actually become enjoyable to me since prepping food is no longer a chore. We've had the set for seven weeks now, and even with daily use we haven't needed to sharpen any of the knives yet.Out of all of the knives in the block, The ones that see the most use are the 8 inch cook's knife and the 6 inch sandwich knife, although they all get used. We also decided to purchase other knives to fill the block; a 7 inch santoku knife and a 6 piece steak knife set. If you don't end up buying the 10 piece set (yes it is quite pricey!), the santoku knife is worth buying on it's own! It is slightly lighter than the cook's knife and is wonderful to chop garlic, onions or other smaller vegetables with.Aside from the price, there really aren't any drawbacks to owning these knives! Being constructed so well, they will definitely last us a lifetime. Even if you only cook occasionally, these knives can help you significantly cut down on your prep time and may even make you want to cook more! My husband and I both love these knives and anyone who tries them out will love them too.

5The best knives you can buy
    By hyytekk
It might seem like a lot to spend for a set of knives, especially with the infomercials that show people sawing bricks in half with their product, then micro cutting a tomato all for $19.95. But this is a lifetime purchase. The knives are balanced and have a great weight and feel in your hands. A quick honing with the steel each use and they stay frighteningly sharp. Like everything else, if you have the right tools, the job is infinitely easier, safer and more pleasurable. I've had my set for over a year and they seem as new as the day they arrived. One note of practicality is that I don't really need all the knives in the set and regularly use only four. If really pressed or confined in a budget you could get along nicely with just two; the 8 inch cooks knife and the 3 1/2 inch paring knife, and of course a steel. Don't be tempted to put them in the dish washer. They clean very easily with a soapy sponge. Intense heat will change the steel in the blade and can be nicked and damaged. Just a final note that Consumer reports rated Wusthof as the best in their tests as well. There are several handle designs, but personally I like the Classic. The Culinar Premiere is beautiful and has all metal handles which are seemingly more durable. But at twice the price are for the very well heeled only. Highly recommended; you won't regret your purchase.

    5A Cook's Dream Machine--still going, 9 years later
    By K. G. Schneider
Edit, September 12, 2011: Just have to note that I have replaced the workbowl once but this machine is still going strong, and continues to get daily use. Its blades are as sharp as the day they came out of the box. The plastic over the buttons is worn from use... no big deal. When (or perhaps if) this food processor dies, I'll get the next-gen Cuisinart 14-cup and get multiple bowls in different sizes.Original review (Jan, 2002):I bought this machine using a gift certificate from my last place of employment plus a little of my own dinero, and have been absolutely thrilled with it. It has flawlessly and effortlessly kneaded pasta dough, mixed a double batch of heavy gingerbread cookie dough, grated parmesan cheese to a fine powder, rescued slightly lumpy gravy, whisked together cornbread in seconds, and most recently sliced a variety of vegetables for tossed salad for 25 people (which I was requested to bring to a party--I am not a "salad person," so I was tickled when everyone praised my contribution!). I had never used a food processor for slicing, but it did a beautiful job with bell peppers and cucumbers--artfully thin, but not too fine a cut. As promised, it even did a fine job mincing just a couple of garlic cloves and also a handful of parsley, meaning that I could do a dinner's worth of food-processing in just one machine. The accompanying video can only be watched by people who take food equipment seriously; other family members had to be asked to leave the room during the viewing, as there was much giggling about the over-earnest instructions. Nevertheless, I picked up some fabulous tips about using the Cuisinart, and recommend you sit (alone, or with a true believer) and watch it beginning to end.The surface of the machine is very easy to clean, and Cuisinart recommends the dishwasher for the bowl and blades. Do be careful with the latter--Cuisinart should really include the disk holder, as it is dangerous to leave these accessories lying around in a kitchen drawer. This is the third food processor I have owned, and though I mourned the demise of my trusty Panasonic (rated highly by Consumer Reports ten years ago), with this high-end Cuisinart I have "been to Paree" and have no intention of going back to the farm. If you do any industrial-strength cooking, or if you (like me) are sold on using a food processor as a high-powered, self-contained unit for basic mixing duties, this is a wonderful accomplice in your prandial ventures. Bravo Cuisinart!

5The only appliance that stays on the counter
    By A Customer
When shopping for a new food processor, this one looked good, but I hesitated at first because of the price. I went ahead and splurged, and I'm so glad I did. This machine is unbelievable. I use it almost daily. It is easy to use, easy to clean, voluminous, and sturdy. Plus all the pieces stack nicely inside the bowl, so it really does not take up much space. My favorite uses: chop herbs (which I HATE doing by hand), make bean dips, make veggie spreads, slice carrots, shred cabbage, puree soups (careful -- it can splatter and leak through the middle hole, out so don't fill it too much with liquid), and puree tofu-based sauces and pie fillings. If you're looking for a machine that does mostly liquids, (soups/smoothies), opt for a blender. If you only prepare small amounts of food, this machine is not for you. It does not chop small amounts evenly; it is made for large jobs and really comes through beautifully. It also kneads dough, but I use my bread machine for that.

5Make room on the counter, you'll use it a lot
    By J. Huntington
I bought my DLC-2014 when replacement parts for my 15-year-old Bosch became too hard to find. I was encouraged by the Cuisinart reputation and the outstanding reviews it received, and wasn't disappointed when it arrived. The machine is heavy- no more posting a kid by the counter to make sure it doesn't walk off if I have to step away for a few seconds. It's aerodynamically smooth on the outside, so it's a snap to clean. I don't buy many things that I have to wash by hand and everything but the base can be put into the dishwasher. I use it very frequently, and often find myself making, for example, 3 batches of bread dough in quick succession rather than pull out and assemble my big mixer. (I feel that the processor does tend to heat bread dough up a little, so I might recommend adjusting the temperature of the water in recipes.) I was devastated the one time I had problems with it - my 7 year old was mixing cookie dough in it and it just stopped and simply would not start again. I suspect she must have put in ingredients in the wrong order. I felt a little better when I looked in the manual and saw that there is a 10-year warranty on the motor, and was overjoyed later when, after I gave it sufficient time to cool off, it worked as if it were new. My biggest complaint about the processor, and this did not keep me from giving it a "5", is that with normal household use, the cover and pusher assembly have developed some cracks which, so far, have not affected performance. The white plastic piece on the work bowl handle is loose, too, and if it comes off completely it may end up causing me to replace the bowl, as it shields the locking mechanism. A friend has commented that she has been similarly disappointed with her Cuisinart processor. I don't coddle the parts; perhaps they were dropped at some point or had some heavy dishes placed on top of them in the sink, or it could have been stress cracks caused by the heat of the dishwasher (though I always place them on the top rack). Whatever the reason, I never expected the Lexan parts to show this much wear so quickly. After looking unsuccessfully for replacement bowls and covers at various online sites, I finally found that I could order them directly from Cuisinart. The price for a complete bowl and cover assembly shocked me- about a third of what I paid for the whole processor. Will I buy the parts, at what I feel are too steep prices? Of course. I have to. I won't even wait until the ones I have now become unusable, because that might mean going for a week without it, and I am just too dependent on it to take chances.Update: My Cuisinart is now about 10 years old and I'm going to have to replace it. The plastic membrane button covers have been cracked/worn off for about 7 years; though unsightly, this did not affect the machine's performance, at least until now. I have noticed that over the last six months or so that it would make small switching noises, as if it was turning itself on - very creepy, particularly in that I only notice it late at night, when the house is dead quiet. I now leave it unplugged when not using it. The buttons have stopped working. The machine still works, but not to pulse or at the slower dough speed; my options are limited to plugged in (on) and unplugged (off). In retrospect, it has been a solid, useful appliance. I know there are people who talk about their Cuisinarts lasting for 20 years or more, but, having used it on average every other day for more than 10 years I have to say I got my money's worth out of it.After looking around a lot, I've decided to replace it with a (drumroll, please) DLC2014! I have a nice collection of optional slicing/grating disks and a bowl, cover and pushers that are almost new. The cost has come down so much that I would be foolish not to. I suspect that replacement parts will be around for a while, as the Limited Edition Metal(tm) 14-Cup Food Processor MP-14N uses many of the same parts. As much as I long for a new toy, I think I'd be just as happy with 10 years with another Power Prep Plus.

4Great set, but Gourmet steak knives
    By Everything Shines
This is a great set of Wusthof Classic knives. It seems to have pretty much whatever you might need in the kitchen and then some. I purchased this set because I wouldn't be wasting lots of money on knives I didn't need by combining other sets or spending more purchasing them all separately, but mainly because it came with 8 steak knives and a block large enough to hold 8 rather than 6 steak knives.Be aware though, that while the large knives are all Wusthof Classic knives, the steak knives are Wusthof Gourmet. Not the same quality, and I think the description is somewhat misleading since the title of the collection is "Wusthof Classic". That implies that everything in the set is Classic. It is not. That said, at this price I can't say I am surprised. Eight Classic steak knives would definitely cost more combined with the larger knives in this set.Still a good buy as long as you know what you're getting.

    5So sharp!
    By R. Anderson
Wusthof knives are incredible. You won't realize how dull your current knives are until you put one of these knives in your hands. Cuts through almost all foods like a hot knife through butter! These knives are well weighted and feel perfect in my hands. They cut chicken with the greatest of ease (you can actually just pull the knife through a chicken breast, no need for sawing motion at all...unbelievable!).This set is great because you get a 10 piece Wusthof classic set, which are heavy weighted super quality knives, but then you get 8 steak knives from their Gourmet line of knives. The Gourmet are good quality, but not quite a good as the classics. However, for steak knives, I feel you don't need the 5 star knives, the 4 star will do just fine since you're only eating with them, not preparing food (and they're very sharp and high quality too!). Both styles of knives have the 3 rivet look and are full tang, so even though they're not the same line, they look very similar and go nicely together. And for the price, you get about twice as many steak knives then if you were to get classic series steak knives. The 8 steak knives in this set really make it a complete set for the money. The block has several empty slots as well, which make it nice for future expansion. The block if very heavy and comes mounted on a swivel, so the knives can be easily accessed from anywhere on your kitchen counter. I highly recommend this set.

    5Wusthof Classic 18-Piece Set
    By Bradley W Johnson
The big question when investing in a quality set of knives is Wusthof or Henckels. Both are superior knives but when it came down to the very small details, we opted to go with Wusthof.

While the Classic line is one of Wusthof's more affordable lines, I like the feel and look of these knives better than the Grand Prix and Culinar. The 3 rivet design, in my opinion, feels and looks more durable and solid despite the more ergonomic or comfortable knives found in the Grand Prix and Culinar lines.

The advantage of going with the larger knife set was savings and the larger wood knife block. The 18-piece set gives you up to 25 slots! 5A Best-Selling Globe
    By N. Lim
This is my second Replogle globe. Replogle is the best! Their Pioneer World Globe has a little of everything (well almost). It shows major cities, raised relief mountains, ocean currents, color-coded countries and states, and legend. Like most of their globes, it also comes with a plastic time zone dial over the north pole, so you can sort of figure out what time it is in other parts of the world compared to others. My favorite feature which stands out among others is its gyroscopic apparatus, which enables you to tilt the earth upside down without lifting its base, so you can see Antarctica in its entirety. With other lower-priced globes, you have to lift the whole globe, and the base gets in the way, so you really cannot see Antarctica. There are two things I dislike about this globe. It has no topographical information, but I suppose that is what the Atlantis World Globe is for. (I guess you cannot have everything.) Also, it scratches easily, so don't bang it around.Another insignificant thing I notice is the placement of the political information. Because the globe is constructed with strips of cardboard (like orange peels), none of the city, state, or country names are printed across two strips. It does not take away from the quality of information; it's just quirky to look at. I am very detailed-oriented and pay attention to everything. Most of you probably will not even notice this.

Pros:Great learning tool for 9-12 year olds.Excellent details.Up-to-date political boundaries.Cons:The globe's skin seems could have been done better. The quality of the globe stand is not as good as I had hoped.

    1Factory second.
    By otto0713
In the final stages of production, this item was misaligned but somehow got through quality control. The north south lines are off by 10-12 degrees at the equator where the upper half and lower half of the globe are joined. See enclose photos.I had read from other reviews that this was common place but decided to take a chance. How could such a huge mistake on a globe costing $80.00 get by quality control? Is this a factory second, and if so, why not advertise it as such? That's probably why it was $20 off.I'll never by another Replogle again.

4Great Product - Horrible Product Documentation
    By J Beal
This is a really great product. The clarity is incredible and does not degrade in low light. The product differences between CF and IF is really hard to find. IF is individual focus. CF is great is the primary uses does not require corrective lenses. The IF is good for those who wear corrective lenses. The eyeglasses denoted on the Nikon site is indicative of soft compactable eyepieces. These allow a person who is wearing corrective eye glasses to get their eyes to the appropriate focal point.Something smart that is not noted in the documentation. The low light compass illumination is red to lessen the white wash of a white light in the eye piece. - Really smart!Great lenses, the compass is quite stable, the low light illumination is clever, the outside material is easy to grip in slipper situations, the padded (and floating) neck strap is very comfortable. The height and width scales are clear and easy to use. The needed values required to gauge accurate heights and width make it very unlikely that that feature will ever be used. That being said, the scales are clear and available. Here is the bad. The documentation is rock bottom bad. An insert instructing the customer to "go find some website that has better documentation than we do" would be more truthful. The documentation is polylinguistic but done with very poor methodology. They do not cover all the functionality referenced in forums and blogs. The pictures are not product specific so the customer is left with the idea that parts are missing from thier box. The documentation is just awful. That is the only reason I did not give this product a 5 out of 5 stars. If the documentation at [...] or those included in the box were remotely usable I would have rated the product better. Product alone, 5 out of 5.

My friends call these "high definition" binoculars.Very high quality. Came complete with floating strap, all lense covers, carry bag.Note that I also recently found them at defender at same price after rebate, but they also had the compass included for only $50 more ($200 total) which I couldn't find at that price here. These are terrific binoculars!

    By A Customer
First of all the price along with the free shipping is the best I've seen. It arrived very quickly, several days before the expected delivery date. However it did sustain some cosmetic damage in shipping. It was obviously dropped at least once and the box was pretty rough looking by the time I recieved it. I decided I could live with the cosmetic stuff and didn't go to the point of reporting it. I think you almost have to expect some kind of damage in shipping considering the weight, 120 lbs.

delivered to your door by some poor UPS guy. Anyway, aside from that, the unit looks pretty good. I fired it up and ran a few beads with 7018 and 6011 rod and it worked beautifully. In my opinion just as well if not better than the older model miller thunderbolt 225/150 ac/dc unit I'd been recently using. The front mounted switch to change from ac to dc seems to be of good quality. Though the plastic crank handle for adjusting the amperage seems a little flimsy. I opend the cover to look inside and everything looked pretty well built. Though I was a little disappointed to see the secondary coils made from aluminium windings rather than copper. All in all so far I feel it's worth the money.

5Outstanding SMAW Welder for Light Industrial and Homeowner Fabrication / Repairs!
    By M. Philion
I purchased this welder to replace a cheap Harbor Freight unit that I overworked and killed. (It was not very well built to say the least) So after scouring the internet for information I settled on this unit and purchased it locally. The quality of the welds that I made improved immediately. Granted I consider myself an amateur at best, the difference between the Hobart and Harbor Freight unit was night and day. Rarely do I ever have to exceed 100A output DC for the majority of my work so the 20% duty cycle is not a concern. If you do lots of welding with electrodes greater than 1/8" you probably should consider a higher output unit such as the Miller Thunderbolt 300/200 or larger.Final Thoughts...You wont be disappointed in a quality USA Made product. The internals are very well built, although I would have rather seen copper windings on the transformer (they're aluminum) given the current cost of copper I can live with that.A few things that are not mentioned. The rated output of this unit is 225A AC and 150A DC with a 20% Duty Cycle, the output advertised is the MAX output. Also you need a NEMA 6-50 receptacle to plug this unit in. It draws at max load 50A so consult with an licensed electrician if you do not already have the appropriate wiring in place. (There are special rules regarding arc welders in the National Electric Code, so make sure the electrician is familiar with that too!)

    By Armand Tomany
Excellent Welder. You wont be disappointed in it's performance. I've used it a great deal as a power supply for TIG welding (I weld a lot of Stainless Steel). I've also used it for general purpose Stick welding. It's actually a very stable AC/DC supply. Stable enough to be able to do very low current DC TIG welding (I've been down to 10 amps with it).I hope this helps in your decision to purchase....Hobart 500421 Stickmate LX 235 AC Stick (SMAW) Arc Welding Power Source

    4Great Durable Boom Box
    By A. Tubesing

I shopped for several weeks for just the right boom box. I wanted something that would survive the rough construction site abuse it would have to take at work. I initially passed this one by trying to avoid push-button volume controls and radios "that look like space ships." But I came back to it because of its hardiness, even though I had vowed to get one with a rotary volume knob. Both the cassette and CD doors have mouldings inside that prevent dirt and dust from getting into the mechanisms. (Most others looked like they would let stuff get in the cracks, but if any gets into the cracks on this model it's confined to an interior trough separating it from the sensitive moving parts). It is very solid feeling and very durable.

It is stable laying flat or standing up and sounds great either way (but if you're a thump-hound you might find it a tad lacking in bass despite the "mega-bass" feature.) The preset sound settings are, at best, a fair substitute for tone control, but that's pretty standard these days. I would have liked a Jazz setting. (It has Rock, Pop, Vocal, and Live)

The store I tested it in was on the fringes of the city and so radio reception was marginal on most of the boom boxes in the store. This model, however, pulled in all my favorites without even extending the antenna. This is the primary frustration I had with my old radio, it simply didn't have a very good tuner. This one is really nice. Having a digital tuner is a very nice convenience. Plus I think it pulls in stations better than other models (both cheaper and more expensive ones).

The CD player works great as does the cassette. I have not made a recording with it yet. The alarm clock function seems like it would be useful, but the LCD display has no illumination so its alarm clock capabilities would be of limited use for me, especially at night.

This is the only boom box I have ever heard of that comes with both an AC adapter and a 12v car adapter. What a great convenience! However, the one complaint I have about this model is with the AC adapter. It is one of those "wall-warts" with a big heavy block that plugs into the wall. Every other boom box I have had just used a cord to get AC to the unit and it had the adapter built into the radio. Instead, with this model you have to lug the bulky adapter around separately. On other models you could wrap up the cord and stuff it in the battery compartment. Not with this one. The adapter is too big - it's very large, about the size of a can of SPAM. The car adapter is relatively compact although it does not fit in the battery compartment either. In short, this nicely portable radio is encumbered by having to carry bulky accessories separately.

I have not used it on battery power yet so I can't testify to its efficiency. It takes 6 D cells for the main unit and 4 AA batteries for memory backup so your preset stations will stay in memory. The clock and alarm settings are also retained.

I use this unit as my primary source of music away from home. I use it at job sites and in the office (I carry it around a lot which is why I have found the power adapter to be cumbersome). A little bit of me wishes it had a remote control, but that's less of a complaint than a testimonial to what a great radio it is -- I want to use it as a stereo. All in all it's a great item. A tad pricey for it's class but for the extra durability and dirt and water protection I found it worth the money.

    Good luck and happy shopping.

    5Good camping radio
    By L. Bragdon
I recieved the Sony Boom Box five days ago specifically to keep in my new camper and to have a CD player in the truck cab while driving to and from our camping destination. I was a bit concerned when I first noticed there were no bass and treble controls but found the sound button much easier to use and created great sound with it's 5 presets. The AM sound comes in with a little to much bass for my liking but others found it just fine. It also appeared to pull in the AM stations a little better than my other radio. The CD player worked flawlessly with great sound and much volume when set on the roof of the truck (not in the campground). The case appears to be very rugged and the rubber foot pads are easy on the counter tops. At nine+ pounds and with a comfortable handle it should be no problem carrying long distances. We did not get a chance to use the tape deck, but on our recent wild boar hunting trip we were lulled to sleep by Ozzy Osburn and the auto shutoff, then rudely awakened by the same with the timer. This function also works with the radio but not the cassette. Sliding volume controls would be better but you get used to the +/- buttons. The unit comes with AC and DC cords, nothing extra to buy. Battery operation was not tested as this unit will rarely leave the camper and the 12 volt outlet. My hunting buddy Bob liked it so much he's ordering one as soon as he gets home. We only tested it for 5 days but would highly recommend it.

5Yellow or Black, I wish it was back.
    By j0~
This CD player of mine has now lived a full rugged beat on life of 13 years and I am looking for a replacement antenna, and a service place to work on the CD reader. It still has GREAT sound, and plays the first half of whatever CD you want to listen to, but after 13 years, I can't say that it wasn't the best money I have spent on a sound system ever.

    5Bring him back!!!
    By ewomack
It's too bad that this item is out of stock or no longer being made. The detail on Sauron is amazing (I've read elsewhere that 16-point articulation was used), the chain mail is intricate and looks very metallic in appearance. It almost looks as if an artist made it. Sauron is also infinitely poseable. There's hardly a joint on him that doesn't move in any realistic direction: head, neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, legs, knees, ankles. His left hand bears the One Ring, and his fingers are removeable, as well as the ring. Use caution, because the ring is smaller than most insects and is easily lost, vaccuumed, or even swallowed (though it's SO small that no one would probably choke on it). Seeing this problem, four extra rings were included in the package. This was a good move, for I see myself losing at least one of the infinitesimal rings. Sauron's voice is booming - it's louder than you would think - and it's the voice from the movie. The phrases are great: "I see you!"; "You cannot hide!"; "There is no life in the void" and "Build me an army worthy of Mordor." When he speaks his eyes flash in sympathy with the spoken syllables. In a dark room he's downright creepy. Hopefully Sauron will not be gone for long. For fans of the movie (Tolkien never gave a description of Sauron in physical form, so the figure is based completely on the movie, not anything in the novel), this is the figure to own.

    5Worth every penny
    By Ian
HOLY COW!!! I could not believe I found Sauron! After paying a hefty price for him and waiting for 4 months for him to show up, I finially took him out of his box, eager to see how my own miniature dark lord holds up as an action figure. I am pleased to report that Sauron is one of, if not, the BEST action figure I have ever seen.

This Sauron figure is incredible. The figure is ridiculously detailed. You can put a magnifying glass up to his armor and the swirling patterns are still greatly detailed. Everywhere, it goes on and on on how he is so detailed. He looks exactly like he does in the movie, right down to the ridges of his shoes, to the detailing on his mace. He has an easy time standing up, and the fact that his legs can move really well to pose is great too. His limbs can move around in a realistic manner, but his arms cannot go up too high (Due to the spikey shoulder pads)

Sauron comes with a few things. His mace is the biggest thing he comes with, and it easily fits in his hands, although mine came in slightly bent, and the edges of the spikes are slightly mushed, it dosent really affect it at all. His right hand has removable fingers that you can put the ring in. This is a great feature, and the fingers go on and off fairly easily. They also have an extra pack of one rings, which is great (Mostley because I lost the first ring within a day, those things are tiny!) He also comes with a cape, which is poked with holes to give it a "Used" look

Saurons crowning achievment is his voice. Using the latest technology, Sauron can say 4 fun phrases "I see you!" "Build me an army, worthy of Mordor" "You cannot hide" and "There is no life...in the void" His eyes also light up when he says his phrases. However, the voice is slightly off tone from the phrases from the movie, and the voice is really quite loud. It would be nice if he had a volume control button, but its still cool.

If you are going to buy only one figure from Lord of the Rings, make it Sauron. He is riddiculously detailed, he is great fun to play with, and he is really cool. Get yours before they all dissapear!

The good:Its an 11 inch Sauron figure!Astonishing detailsreally cool weaponremoveable fingers and the one rings are niceBooming voiceEasy to pose

The not so good:2 of the head spikes are slightly bentthe mace is slightly bentthe voice is a little too loudlegs can become loose (But only a little bit)

Summary: If you find him, GRAB THIS GUY!!!

5One of the best of the line
    By A Customer
This is a terrific action figure. When I first saw the movie back in December of '01, this was the figure I wanted. But I figured they'd never make him because, firstly, he's only in about a minute of the movie, and secondly, if they kept him in scale with everybody else, he'd be too large and way too detailed to manufacture efficiently and cheaply. Boy am I glad I was wrong. This is a wonderfully detailed sculpt of one of the coolest character designs in recent memory.

I do take some issue with the light-up eyes, however. I don't know what movie everyone else saw, but the Sauron I saw didn't have cheesy glowing eyes. (And neither did Treebeard, for that matter.) I would have been perfectly happy with this figure just talking.

I love the inclusion of a little bag full of extra One Rings, too. They're adorable. ToyBiz knows you're going to lose the one on his finger so it's nice that they give you a few extras. Thanks for thinking of us, ToyBiz. (Ironically, the original One Ring is still on my Sauron's finger ... it's the bag full of extras I lost the day I brought him home!)

My only hope is that ToyBiz considers making a Sauron for their 12" scale line! Wouldn't that be amazing? He'd be about two feet tall! Dare to dream!
