5Caution, please read
By Mike McComics
This is a great product that gives you maximum benefit from the Makita portable saw. The table and saw couldn't be easier to set up and the fence is accurate and secure as advertised. Here's my word of caution however. Although this table is made by Rousseau and is almost identical to the 2700XL, almost is the operative word. Because this carries the Makita label, Rousseau evidently has to make it slightly different, and so it is 1 1/2" less wide than the 2700XL. Not a problem if you want to add the Makita 122732-A 49" rip extension, but don't try to add the Rouseau extentions because they won't fit. I learned this of course the hard way, so I want to spare anyone else the hassle. Now this is only relevant if you want to add on a router/rip extention because they don't make one for the Makita table. You could buy the regular extension and cut a hole in it for the router and attach a plate, but why do you need the extra job.

4Makita Porta Table
By Roger L. Conway
The Makita Porta Table has been a very valuable asset for obtaining the maximum capabilities of my Makita 2703 Table Saw. The saw at 15 amps and with excellent debth cutting capabilities, is hampered by a medicore at best fence. The Porta Table adds excellent ripping capabilites and a very accurate fence to the 2703. Other accessories such as an out-feed table, ripping extension, and a Router insert (available from Tool Crib/Amazon under the Rosseau name) make this a very verstile tool. The table breaks down very easily and stores or transports well, taking a minimum of space. It is worth the price, but if it where a little less expensive I would give it 5 stars.

5If you own a Makita table saw, just buy this NOW
By rcb
This is the deluxe package, with both the incredible Makita 122731-A saw table and the outfeed table, all in one package. Highly, highly recommended (I mean, just buy it now) for anyone who owns one of the absolutely wonderful, terrible Makita table saws, with everything brilliant except for the wretched fence. This light, portable package will give you, among other things, a REALLY GREAT FENCE that lets you realize how awesome the rest of the saw is.

5It's great
By Angela McCloy
This is a very sturdy changing table. The shelves are sturdy and hold a lot. I like that the side of the shelves are enclosed, I think it gives it more stability. It came with the pad and strap. It's a little old fashioned looking but my daughter doesn't have a lot of money so function is more important that looks. This was an excellent price.

5Still ticking
By Grant Miller
The promise of 3,000 pages of text is no exaggeration. I waited until printing that many before writing this review. Many pages I print are double-spaced (for writing and college), but full with only 1" margins. I'm not sure how much longer the cartridge will last, but for now the well-distributed toner (sharp, no background shading) continues.

5Excellent professional quality tool!
By K. Juelch
I'm using this tool for sculpting wood with "Kutzall" type burrs. I have been using a Foredom flex shaft tool for years but was looking for something with a little more guts and power for mass stock removal. The Makita did all this and more--in additon to its raw power I also find the rigidity of the tool helps make even fine cuts more controllable. Not shown in the illustration above is the multi-position removable side handle which adds greatly to the ease of controlling this workhorse. Over the years I have owned many Makita tools, and this die grinder, like all my other Makitas, is a superb tool and a great value.

5A serious tool!
By E. L Suttles
I also purchased this tool for use with "Kutzall" carbide bits, specifically for use with their "Wood Blaster" 2" domed bit since it has a limitation of 10K RPMs. The adjustable speed of the GD0800C fit the purpose beautifully, allowing amazing control for scribing branches into beautiful Adirondack style railings. Call me a bit cynical, but not every Makita tool has been a winner in my 30-year carpentry career. This one sure is.Yes, it's a large tool, but the extra weight and leverage helps to keep it from deflecting off your workpiece. It runs very smoothly on ball bearings, has excellent ergonomics and enough power to not bog down or overheat even in hard daily commercial use. I expect it to last for decades. Sure, it takes two wrenches to change a bit, but if you've ever had a router bit slip and ruin a piece of work, you'll appreciate the security and safety this gives. If you have small (or large) hands, you can still choke up on the metal shaft for precise control. The one downside I see with this tool is that it could use an optional ringed handguard to keep precious flesh away from more aggressive bits and the collet when choking up. A bit of plastic would make this a superior tool Makita.

5Heavy DUTY
By Dj Magic Mike
I've had this unit for over a year which is used quite often at my shop. It's use is for cutting plastics and metal, basically needed a REAL duty tool to get away from wasting time with the dremel. This unit has a lot of torque and really grinds, combined with the proper cutting bits and you've got a really strong tool. Its pretty unforgiving so if you mess up, the unit can yank you around.. real important that you are cautious when using this tool.Only thing thats a bit weird, not sure if its only my unit or how these work in general, but it takes about half a second from when you flick to the switch to when the rotary starts turning, almost like a slight delay. Overall its a very smooth and reliable tool.

5The Best 3" x 24" belt Sander I have ever used!
By Flatpickin
I have had this sander for about 3 months now.. I am a 25 year self employed cabinet and furniture maker.. I have had and or used almost every belt sander known to man.. This is the best 3x24 belt sander I have ever had the pleasure of working with, and it is becoming apparent to me that it may be the best belt sander of any brand I have ever used. Hard to know the whole scoop until I see how long it will hold up. But in my experience Makita's generally do a pretty adequate all around job anyway. So it may just be the sander of sanders.

I normally wouldn't choose Makita as my number one choice, but after some serious shopping a few months ago it seemed the only way to go. This little machine has everything that counts and except for my one complaint it is missing nothing. Compare this to any other belt sander to see if the other one you're looking at has got everything is should have... Then buy this one, cause you won't find it.

This is an exceptional belt sander with only one flaw in my opinion.. I think the handle grip should have a little more tilt downward toward the back and not be such a flat a grip. It seems to cause my wrist to bend unnecessarily and I find it a bit tiring, noticed more when sanding on a higher table... My wrists aren't the greatest though, so you may not even notice it.

But besides that one "flaw"?? It is the best balanced belt sander I have ever used, It is compact in design. It has a low center of gravity. It sands flat with no dimples. It never, and I mean never goes off track. Put the belt on, adjust it once maybe, and don't touch it again until you change belts; amazing.

The bag is in the most logical place it can be, on the inside towards you, not hanging up in the air like some models which always irritated me anytime you did anything other than use the sander on materials that you lay flat on a table to sand. If you need to use it side ways, or in awkward positions or even not so awkward positions out on the job or in the shop, that design of bag is really quite stupid to have. There are a few models made by Makita that have that terrible bag location as well as other brands. But not this model 9920.. This is the bag of bags.. This Makita has a sturdy enough bag, that when full, it does not drop below the sanding surface and it never falls off. It doesn't sway in the wind either like the others I just mentioned. It stays firmly in place even when full without ever getting in the way. It is easy to empty as well. What more could you want.??

One of the very most important design details in my opinion for any belt sander is the ability of the belt to sand flush right up next to a wall. This one does it best. The motor housing is wisely and logically designed in far enough from the open belt side to let you put that baby right next to something with great precision... Can you tell I like this sander?

Yep,, lightweight, yet sturdy. Plenty of power, quiet, It is very quiet for any belt sander. It also comes with a 15' cord. What a great idea huh? Don't need to drag around an extension cord. To bad many other manufacturers don't see the simple genius in that longer cord. The variable speed works superiorly. This is a superior belt sander! $200 bucks,, or more, what a steal.... I am seriously considering buying another one because you know how it is, you find something you love and then they stop making it.. Problem is, it feels like this little baby will last this one man shop for 15 years.. I hope to retire by then and I bet this thing just may get me through my tinkering. I will let you know in 15 years....

Sincerely,,Barry

Thank you Lord for the blessings.. Praise Yahaveh through in our Lord Jesus Christ

535 Years of experience Belt Sanding
By Brad Cure
I am a professional full time woodworker. I have 35 years experience behind a belt sander.A good belt sander can make for fast smooth sanding in the right hands, or more fuel for the wood stove in the inexperienced ones. The important consideration in choosing a belt sander is: what am I going to be using the tool for 90% of the time. This tool by Makita 3 x 24 (9920) is best suited for this 90% use criteria. Most of the time I am doing sanding of solid stock before assembly, as well as sanding assembled work.NOTE: If your using this tool to sand floors or other large surfaces, this is not the sander. Purchase the appropriate sander. This sander comes in 3 x (18)(21)and(24). The 24 is the best choice as it has a larger sole plate that makes it easier to sand flat. Also belts last longer. Note - Makita also makes a similar 4" wide model in this style. Belts are about 40% more for this extra inch.Avoid this. If you really need a 4 x 24 then purchase the HD model by Makita. (11 amp)Good Points of this sander include.1) This belt sander tracks very well.2) The cord length at 15 feet is an important because you don't always need a extension cord.3) Light enough to use with one hand when needed. Light is less fatiguing with prolonged use.4) Dust bag collects dust well enough.5) Power is adequate for most work.6) Made in Japan which has higher quality standards than most.Over all. I think this is truely the best belt sander available on the market and will give you years of production. With over 1000 hours behind all brands of belt sanders, I have the experience to know what I'm talking about.

4Makita 9920
By A Customer
I just recently purchased the Makita 9920 3"X24" belt sander and have already begun to take a serious liking to it. I bought it to replace an old B&D Industrial 3X24 I'd had for years. It is just the right size and weight for most of the work I do and I prefer the 24's extra belt length to a 21".For me, a larger 4X24 would just be too heavy and aggressive for use as an all around general-purpose sander. I am glad to see that Makita has taken the 1/2" of motor housing that used to overhang the right side of their old belt sanders, and moved it over to the left side where the drive belt is making it easier to sand up close to objects. I also like the new positioning of the dust bag. An adapter is available for attaching a vacuum to the dust port. The 9920 also makes much less noise than my old belt sander did.The Makita's weight and power are just right for medium to heavier sanding jobs. A sanding frame is available for more delicate work. The body is compact with good balance and comfortable handles. The large trigger switch is easy on the fingers. The trigger lock and variable speed control dial are easy to get at. The belt release handle is large and easy to lift. Motor brushes are externally accessible for easy replacement. This tool performs very well, seems very well made and since I have experienced very good reliability from all of my other Makita tools, I feel confident that this tool will turn out to be no exception.

5Perfect Tracking
By D. Lemke
I have replace a 20 year old Craftsman belt sander with the 9903 Makita. I always fought with the Craftsman's tracking. I could only go 5 minutes before I needed to adjust the tracking. The Makita is not like this at all. It has perfect tracking! I pulled the 9903 out of the box and it tracked OK with the stock belt. But when I put a 3M belt on it and tweeked the tracking a bit I have not touched the tracking, even when I changed the belt to a different grit.I highly recomment this belt sander and 3M (purple) sanding belts. You can turn 9903 over and clamp it to the bench, great feature. It has a very nice trigger lock button, easy to set when you want to set it - but not so easy to lock when you don't want it locked (with either hand). An added benefit is that this belt sander is that it is very quiet (as belt sanders go).My only complaint is with the availability of accessories. I can't find a sanding frame or a vacuum attachment. When I went to an authorized dealer for Makita and asked for a quote on a sanding frame they quoted the housing of the 9903.Buy this one, you won't be disapointed.

4Very Good Sander
By Bikeman
A pleasure to use. Relatively quiet. Belt tracks flawlessly. Adequate power. Can clamp upside down in a wood worker's bench vice to use as a stationary sander. Dust collector works well and is usually not in the way. Wish it came with it's own case. All in all I am very happy with the purchase.

5Power and reliable tracking
By Longtooth
I bought the 21" Makita 9903 Belt Sander after my old Skil 18" sander's on/off switch stopped working for the umpteenth time, and my other el-cheapo 21" belt sander was stolen (thank goodness for small favors).I've used the sander now for a month to sand down 2x6 and 4x4 rough sawn surfaces on redwood and doug fir I've used for finishing a deck (railings, fascia, stair trim). Absolutely perfect tracking all the time, no matter how hot the belt gets, no matter how much pressure I apply, no matter how long I've used the belt. I start with a 50 or 80 grit, then shift directly to a 120 grit belt for final finishing. I've sanded approx. 20 4x6 16 ft boards, both sides and edges, plus another 10 4x4 8ft posts... all 4 sides, among other things this far.Power galore and perfect belt tracking, simple adjustment to bring belt to edge if needed (and it stays there)... what more could a belt sander need to do? Changing belts is just as simple as with any other belt sander I've used over the years --- pull back on the clamping lever (it says open), slip belt on, close clamping lever... and let 'er rip.I also very much like the flat 'top' which allows you to turn the sander over and sit it on it's 'top' to use the belt surface as the stationary member while holding the work piece by hand to shape edges, corners, etc. with much greater precision of cut (hand held piece, as opposed to holding the sander).I also own a Makita sawzall (or whatever they're called) and have owned and used it extensively for several years (purchased in 1992? or '95? or somewhere in that time-frame). It's been extremely reliable, never any problem in the most demanding work I have thrown at it... so I decided to buy the Makita belt sander as well for the hoped for reliability and trouble-free use. Normally I opt for Dewalt power tools... still own and use my Dewalt Professional Radial Arm Saw that I bought in '75... never had a problem with it and I have used it extensively and in heavy work-loads over the years.... it's still as stong, steady, & precise as it was in '75. But, in the belt sander catagory, I didn't like the Dewalt design as much as the Makita (turning the sander over and using it as a stationary sander while holding the work piece by hand is a great feature).I've used other 21" sanders borrowed from contractors from time to time, and though power was alway's great, the tracking deteriorated greatly with with the belt's use or the temperature/pressure I applied.I couldn't be more satisfied.
