4Nice piece of equipment
By avianlk
This fence seems to be a very good value. Upon receipt, I began installation and soon discovered that I needed the optional extension base plate. I contacted the folks at Freud and they were very helpful and said that the Tool Crib folks could special order it for me. I then contacted Tool Crib and they, astonishingly, refused to special order it for me. So, they had essentially sold me a product that I couldn't use. I then contacted a local tool supplier, who was a Freud "dealer" and he obtained the part for me with no problem. The bottom line is that I would recommend the product, but my advice is that you do not buy it from Tool Crib, since they will not do what is necessary to help you get it into service. Instead, go to a local supplier of Freud equipment and get the product along with the support you may need.

4Freud SH-5 Router Table Fence
By S. Paxson
I am a remodeling contractor and do a lot of cabinet and finish work.First things first. This router fence is nice! I like the fact that I can micro adjust both sides of the fence independently. This allows for adjustment to obtain full contact of the routed work to be in solid contact with the out feed fence. The dust collection port works wonderfully. All in all, this fence is very very nice.Secondly, I was torn between rating this product a 3 or a 5. Like many, I purchased the SH-5 prior to Freud including the adapter plates, which are needed on most router tables. Now that the plates ARE included, this is no longer an issue. I did find it quite frustrating when I first received the unit. Also, the quality control department overlooked the fact that the 1/4 -20 machine screw holes in the in feed bracket were only tapped ½ way thru. I found it frustrating that I had to finish the tapping of the threaded holes myself. After my anger passed, the assembly was very straightforward. Instructions are not included, but really people, they are not needed. With the above mentioned the product would qualify for a 3 star rating.... Please read on.I routed 12" x ¾" x 3/8" deep slots in my table so that I could mount mini-T-tracks perpendicular to the router fence. This allows for much improved positioning of the fence to bit situation over the limited threaded screw inserts supplied. The total assembly of the t-tracks, re-tapping and assembly of the adapter plates was an hour and a half. All well worth the time spent.I have this setup installed on my Rousseau table saw wing using a Porter Cable 890 router and a Rockler on/off switch plugged into a Craftsman Auto switch that activates my Shop Vac when I turn on the router. I made accurate and smooth passes on the Freud fence. I played a little with the out feed table and even used it to joint ¾" edges on finish work. The whole wing of course is removable with all the hardware attached for easy storage.Would I buy this router fence again? Yes. Would I use it in my home workshop? Yes, IF my budget was limited and I wanted a quality manufactured router fence. This is a good solid product and I look forward to using it more.

5Great Fence
By K. Rudio
I just purchased and received this fence albeit without the 4 threaded inserts which should have been included. I did call customer service at Freud who promised to mail them out to me that day. In the meantime, I was able to pick up a few in the Rockler Store and mounted the new fence easily. Although the one page of instructions are minimal, I found them precise and to the point. No need for a manual with pictures or 100 plus pages. I experienced no problems setting up and using the fence with the included ALEPSH-5 Adaptor Plate, required for my 9 X 13" router insert. I replaced the standard wing nuts with star knobs and zeroing the precision controls was a breeze. I did not experience any flexing using the standard auxillary fences, however I do plan to replace the faces with 3/4" molecular slick plastic material to further reduce friction. The vacuum port accepted the 2-1/2" hose from my Shopsmith Dust Collector without adapters and coupled with the vacuum port on the router itself, my work was almost dust free (which pleases the miss'es). I'm so thoroughly pleased with this Freud system and I highly recommend it to anyone requiring a precision fence at a bargain price to boot!

5Avid woodworker
By Mark Terrick
This is truely a great router. Mounted the plunge base in my router table and replaced the retract stop nut with a speed handle, makes adjusting easy and accurate; much more so than the Bosch which I was considering. All in all this router is very balanced and much more user friendly than th PC or Bosch. Plenty of power, light weight, and quite. This router is an excellant choice for a first, or second router if you are not ready to purchase one of the 3 1/4 HP routers. Very satisfied with my choice. Spend the extra money and get the kit with both bases, you won't be dissapointed.

5super quite, excellent power/ bad speed controller
By Dusty Bob
Being in the construction / cabinet business for more than 30 years I have worn out my share of routers. This makita is by far the most comfortable router that I have ever operated. Little to no vibration, and only as noisy as an average finish sander. Be nice to yourself and get the kit with the plunge base, you will be pleased. If makita had designed it with a spindle lock for single wrench bit removal they would have scored a perfect 100%. I still give it a 99.9% dusty bob, rico colo. UPDATE after owning this router for a time now the electronic speed control failed. The speed of the router would increase and decrease and sometimes just stop while your using it.Anyone who has ever used a router knows that this is a big problem. But an even bigger problem is the cost of replacing the speed controller. Just to buy the replacement part is around $70.00, and if you can't install the part yourself you will have to pay "shop time" to have someone else fix it. I didn't see replacing this controller as money well spent so I took the darn thing out and turned my router into a single speed tool. After speaking with my local tool repair guy he mentioned that he has replaced many speed controls on this model router. I still really like this router, but I wish makita would create a RECALL on the controller and stand behind the products the manufacture.

3just ok
By J. Sherfick
I have a Hitachi 3 1/4 hp plunge router that is attached to my Craftsman router table (after fabricating a piece of 1/4 plastic into a face plate to get the thing to fit the darn table). I wanted a separate router for working off the table so I wouldn't have to pull the Hitachi out which led me to purchase the Makita. After discovering the Makita on/off switch is in a place that requires letting loose of one of the handles to operate, I decided to install it in the table and use the Hitachi for free hand work (thereby requiring more fabrication work on another face plate). I'm not much on government intervention, but there ought to be a law requiring router face plates to be interchangeable! I'm thinking Makita put the switch in that location as a safety feature to keep someone from inadvertantly turning it on when they grab the handles. Seems unsafe to me to be required to release one hand to turn it on/off. Or, maybe the designer has real long thumbs. If you want a router for mounting under a table, this one would be a good choice. I am very pleased with all it's features except for where the switch is located.

5Easy Handling Polisher/Grinder/Sander
By William G. Tsarones
I bought my Makita PV7001C Vertical Polisher about 3 years ago and have been extremely pleased with its performance, ease-of-use, and versatility. This isn't just a great polisher, it's also a grinder and sander.I had used a similar tool in the early 70's on a job between years of college and was determined I would some day get one for myself. But no matter where I looked at tools, I never saw one, by any manufacturer. Then I stumbled onto the PV7001C.It can be used with a 7" grinding pad, not to be confused with a sanding pad. The grinding pads are thick, epoxy resin reinfored, but are still flexible. Great for grinding and smoothing metal, fiberglass-reinforced plastic, or wood. This method of grinding is significantly better than using a standard metal grinder and its inflexible stone type pad. The flexibility of the PV7001C's backing pad (rubber) along with an appropriate grit grinding pad is an unbeatable combination. No gouges!!The hook and loop backing pad is what is used for polishing. All types of foam and wool pads are available for it. The electronic control of the PV7001C means you can dial in the speed, and as you apply pressure, the RPM's stay constant. Very Nice. The PV7001C is also easy to wield around. It's not overly heavy and is great for polishing or grinding in a bent over position, as in working the sides of an auto.I highly recommend this tool. It is of exceptional quality and definitely worth the price!

5Solid and Light

We use this polisher every day in our retail glass business. It replaced an older, much heavier polisher. The Makita is light and easy to manipulate. Produces a great edge and adds years to our shop guy's elbow.

5Great Product!!!
By Megan
I had bought one of these polishers for my company (I'm the Ordering Manager) from another source about 1 year ago. We had great success with it for our application, so I was requested to buy another for a cheaper price. I found that cheaper price but same great quality here! Makita is a well known company that produces great machinery and we are never disappointed with it's results. Thank you for making this item available for the fraction of the catalog price but no less the quality of the product!

4not bad at all
By steve m.
I have the Bosch 3727 6" sander and this Makita is as good as that is..it also offers an extra hole for dust collection that is placed in the center of the disc to pick up anything that collects there..I love the Bosch because of the extremely low vibration along with a nice swirl free finish and this Makita delivers the same plus it comes with two sets of six dust collection holes for a total of twelve in the pad with the option of using sanding discs with the dust collection holes either on the extreme outside rim or a little more towards the center which is what the Bosch has. I think the holes which are located way out on the rim are for makita sanding discs and the disc that comes with the sander has those holes and works better than my standard discs which I see on all the other sanders out there..short of buying the Festool this and the Bosch are both next in line and cost less too..

5Is the Newer Generation Necessary?
By Willy Chambers
I bought the Makita BO6030 6-inch RO sander to augment my Porter-Cable 5-inch RO sander, mostly for table tops and isolated floor-refinishing purposes. That being said, I have also found it useful for veneered plywood cabinet panels, making short work of what the smaller P-C sander is capable of. Prior to choosing this 2.7 amp model, I debated between it and the newer 6.6 amp version (Makita BO6040); and basically, it all boiled down to relative amperage and vacuum-attached dust collection. Ultimately, my decision to buy the older BO6030 was based on a study of the respective motor designs in question (referring to the owner's manual schematics, as given on Makita's website). This revealed that the 2.7 amp model has a single-stage motor, with the center of gravity being located over the sanding pad, where it should be, whereas the newer, 6.6 amp model contains a two-stage motor, meaning that in the latter case, more than twice as much electrical expenditure is required to achieve the same output effect, combined with a possible loss of balance relative to the wood surface! (And probably the same holds true for the new generation of "higher-amp" 6-inch RO sanders by other brands like Bosch.) As to the 2.7 amp sander's vacuum dust-collection capacity, I have found that removing the dust bag and replacing it with a 5' Makita vacuum hose (their no. 192278-0) connected to a universal adapter and a Ridgid shop vacuum and hose leaves little or no dust behind and the entire set-up matches perfectly. My only complaint has to do with the lack of compatible sanding sheets. Six-hole Mirka sanding sheets seem to work fine, provided that one cut a nickel-sized central hole in each sheet with a utility knife; otherwise, one has to contend with an overly-strong suction effect during operation that also slows down the motor. But noting that we woodworkers like to cut things, this does not seem to be a big deal. Overall, this sander is also less prone to leaving "pigtails" than the smaller P-C version is; so I will probably be turning to the Makita BO6030 model as my primary hand-held sander from here on. Buy it while you still can, as it would appear to be on the way of being phased-out (this being evinced from discontinued accessory items, etc.).

5Nice tool
By Pennsylvania Reader
This is a well-priced, dependable sander. It's not dust-free, but the dust bag reduces the dust substantially and is very easy to get on and off to empty. There's nothing fancy about this tool, but it does a good job and hasn't let me down. My only complaint is that can be difficult to find the sanding discs.

5From woodworking shop to the living room
By BobSRF
When my wife's vacuum broke down, we pulled the Fein Turbo II out of the woodworking shop to take over duties until we decided what to buy next. Given how quiet and powerful the vacuum is compared to the expensive plastic junk on the market, I decided to give the electric floor brush a try for our carpets. While not inexpensive, it exceeded my expectations in terms of power and usefulness. For example, the old upright vacuum was too high to get under low places (like the bed) while this floor brush can fit under tight spaces. The cord is long enough to move around a large room easily (and the Fein Turbo II can be pulled easily by the 16' hose which is firmly attached.) Looks like the next purchase will be another Fein Vacuum for the house so I can get the Turbo II back in the shop!

4High Price is the only Drawback
By J. Zens
Like their vacuums, this Fein floor brush works extremely well. I originally wanted it to clean fine sawdust from the entry mats in my shop, but the price held me back. One day my wife was using the house vacuum to clean entry mats in the garage, using a machine that takes small vacuum bags at about $7.00 a copy. That was enough to push me over the edge and buy this unit, and I am glad I did.It works very well. The sawdust in the shop goes away very quickly - much faster than using Fein's non-motorized floor tools. And in the garage, small stones, grass, and all the other things that get tracked into a garage disappear with the vacuum's strong suction. If you can get over the sticker shock of this item, it does work very well, and I would recommend it.

5BEST FLOOR BRUSH I HAVE USED
By roman fedyk
I have lots of Fein equipment and find it to be of the highest quality. This electric floor brush is no exception. It runs very quietly, has an agressive brush and even picks up on hardwood, which really surprised me. I thought this was only going to work for carpet. On carpet it picked up everything in its way with no complaints. I have the newer model Turbo 1 and this broom works very well with it. I highly recommend this power brush......

5Great Product !
By Contractor
The Hitachi Nibbler is one of the two best purchases I have ever made. Cutting corrugated 26 gauge steel roofing is not fun! The Nibbler makes it easy. A little difficult in the beginning due to figuring out how to make it move up and down on an angle cut, but once that is done it's terrific. I am a contractor and love purchasing tools that save time and turn out a good product.

5The right tool for the job
By R. J. Merzi
If you have ever had to cross cut corrugated or high rib roofing or siding, the type most commonly found on metal buildings, it doesn't take long for you to discover that there is only one tool that does the job smoothly and near effortlessly. Hand shears?..forget it, they just mess up the cut, a Uni-shear?...works OK for straight or curved cuts on a flat panel but it is near useless on the hills and valleys of a corrugated or high rib panel. The right tool for the job is a 16 gauge nibbler and one of the best on the market is the Hitachi CN16SA. The first time I used this tool I couldn't believe how fast and smoothly it cut through the 26 gauge metal. Two features to look for of when purchasing a nibbler, the most important one is the length of the neck, the longer the neck the easier it is to get over the hills and valleys. I found out how important the length of the neck is the hard way. I first bought a Dewalt nibbler, a quality tool with ample power but the neck was too short and it was darn near impossible to get the tool up and over the high crown of the corrugations. The second feature is power, and I discovered this Hitachi CN 16SA is more than adequate when I later cut out some patterns from a 16 gauge sheet of mild steel.I have no problem giving this tool a five star rating.

I have rented different types of these nibblers several times over the years, never this particular model though. This Hitachi is by far the best I have ever used. It cut our trim and install time by nearly half.

4Super time saver
By A Customer
I am a professional carpenter in California, where extensive use of metal framing connectors is standard practice in both commercial and residential construction. This nailer proved to be worth it's cost purely in time savings. When the cost (to a customer) for a carpenter is roughly $70/hour, time IS money. The nail gun drives one nail only when the nail tip is placed in a hole in a connector, making for accurate framing. The reliability of Hitachi tools is well known, so don't worry about that. The only drawbacks are that it will not fire all nails in the nail strip (jamming reducer), and that it doesn't always drive nails full depth into engineered lumber (heavy beams), although this is more likely a function of the compressor.

5LOVE IT
By frederick haueisen
A VERY LIGHT AND EASY TO USE TOOL, OUR COMPANY HAS 6 OF THESE GUNS AND FIND THEM WORTH HAVING. YOU CAN ALSO SHOOT PASLODE FASTNERS IF THE HITACHI NAIL IS HARD TO FIND IN YOUR AREA. THE HITACHI FASTNER DOES WORK BETTER DUE TO THE STRONGER PAPER STRIP.THE GUN IS LIGHT AND FITS IN TIGHT AREAS, UNLIKE THE PASLODE AND SENCO POSITIVE PLACEMENT GUNS. THE GUN CAN ALSO BE FITTED WITH A SAW HOOK AT THE BACK OF THE MAGAZINE.

5positive placement gun hits the mark
By David Granger
This gun is a great investment if you do any framing on the west coast. It paid for itself in time saved on the first 2 story adition I did. For example: we counted 80 nails needed for Simpson hardware PER TRUSS in the new roof. That is a whole day of using a palm nailer- done in an hour with this gun. It has the power to shoot 2 1/2 inch nails into a paralam beam (Almost all the time) and has very little recoil. It loads easily, and my local lumber yard carries the proper nails. My only complaints are that it is very loud (but no more so than a palm nailer) and won't always fit in tight spaces for hardware like A35s.
