Great ladder and extremely well designed and built!

The 303 is a great ladder. It is top heavy when fully extended with the wall standoff and I'd recommend having two people when working with it this way. In all other cases, the ladder is very easy to work with and very easy to configure. The ladder is very solidly built and wobbled very little when fully extended. As an A-frame, it is rock-solid. It also stores easily, more easily than my ordinary six-foot ladder.The work platform is a must if you plan on using the ladder as an A-frame and want a place to rest a can of paint. It is designed to handle up to 300 lbs. and looks like it could handle more.For the average homeowner, I would stick with the 203 or 303. The 103 really is overkill for a non-professional and the extra weight I think would make it more of a hassle, especially with the wall standoff.

Big little ladder

Just got this ladder so I'm still trying it out but it works great for the kinds of things I need to do around the house. Much more stable than the two step ladders I've had. And supports my unfortunately large (260 lbs) frame quite well.

The various configurations make this ladder great. It can be used as a regular step or A frame ladder but the adjustments that allow you to move it closer to the house while in a modified A configuration really make it safe.

Using it as an extension ladder is great too although it has a shakey feel to it when climbing. However, that could be my weight or the fact that I'm not used to climbing that high on the ladders I've had.

Folds and stores very neatly into a small package and adjustments can be made simply and easily. The video tape that comes with it helps to understand the various formats and should be viewed before reading the booklet.

Saw this ladder advertised on TV for more money (although it did come with a neat step stand that can be used with it - Amazon doesn't offer that but should). Worth the price.

A great ladder

If you want to purchase the Little Giant ladder as seen on TV, watch out. The one advertised on TV has a 300 lb. rating and is classified as industrial grade. This one has a 250 lb. rating and is classified as a household rated one. All in all, both are excellent. This one weighs about 6 lbs. ligher than the industrial grade model. In addition, for those struggling with its weight, you could break it down to two ladders and save your back.

Great except for one odd problem...

For the price, this unit does everything I wanted it to, in terms of sound and features. I had hoped that composite video inputs could be output via the s-video out, but I can accept the fact that I'd have to pay more for this feature.

However, I'm in the process of returning this unit for one single reason: there is a fairly obvious delay in the audio output. With either a DVD or digital cable box signal (using coax digital and RCA inputs, respectively) there is a delay between the video source and the audio output, resulting in slightly out-of-sync dialog. If I also hook up the RCA audio-out of the DVD directly to the TV, then the delay is more obvious -- the TV outputs the sound before the receiver, causing an echo effect. I've called Sony and they have no suggestions other than returning the unit.

Assuming this is an isolated problem with this particular unit, I'll be amending this review, as everything else about this receiver was totally satisfactory.

STR-DE685

The Sony STR-DE685 is a fine receiver for the money. Lots of bells and whistles. Be careful, because it has a great THD rating in stereo, but only so-so with all 5 channels driven. Other companies do the same thing. I really like the features and the remote is probably the best in the business, despite the fact that the keys are small. All in all I liked it so much that when it came time to buy a second one, I bought a STR-DE985, which is similar, but with better specs.

I have had this reveiver for three months now and love it. I am very pleased and have not had the audio delay problem mentioned in the other review. I would highly recommend this product. Nice versitility - Tons of bells and whistles.

Excellent receiver

I got this as my first jump to surround sound/HDTV and i didn't want to get something that I would need to replace later when I updated my other components. That was the deal sealer for me, this bad boy has 3 component jacks and you need/want component jacks for HDTV, DVD, PS2, HDTV converter box, etc. So you need a few and this had the most for the money. A HDTV will also have 1-2 components so keep in mind you'll want a receiver with at least 2. I was very impressed that this unit it the 'brains' so to speak. Everything goes thru this unit, it's like a head unit rather then a piece of a system. Even the TV goes thru this. Very nice, the remote can control everything. Nice sound options, fairly easy to configure. Optical outs, one on the front, give great sound quality.

Just so many features I could go on and on. Onkyo is a quality brand from what I was told and I couldn't be more happy with the unit.

Sounds excellent

I am amazed at how good this small boom box sounds. I bought it to use in my office and here's a few reasons I love it:

-volume control is highly incremental so you can always find the right volume.

-Looks sleek and sophisticated.

-Has a remote control.

-Does not blare when volume is turned up.

-Sounds better than any of another 5 products I tested in this category/price at a store.

-CD motor is very quiet.

Fatal flaw

I had to bring this boombox back because it has a fatal flaw. The radio tuner stops on every radio station! That means if you want to reach 107.7, you must start down at 80 and press the button at least twenty times - stopping at each station. Once you program the presets this is less of an issue, but do you want to always have to rely on the presets and remote control? This is such a poor design it's hard to believe.

Amazing!

This monitor had the most detailed picture and IS worth the cash. If you purchase this, you will not regret it. Along with a decent Sony computer it wonders everyone with both its looks and performance. I really like the input setup for two different computers so you can save some money and have one monitor for two systems if your occupation needs that sort of power. I highly recommend this Sony monitor.

Plays Fine, but missing basic features

I bought this unit specifically to play the new Super Audio SACDs. In particular, I wanted something that would play the new Rolling Stones ABKCO SACD reissues. The unit does a great job of playing the SACDs. But there is no headphone output anywhere on the unit. There is no Volume Control on the unit or the Remote Control, which appears to be more directed at playing DVD movies than SACD purposes. The unit is constructed very inexpensively. I really miss the headphone output, and would have been happy to pay a few dollars more for the feature. The unit is very lightweight. I would have preferred a more solid unit. The disc tray hangs a bit loose in the open position, and CDs don't fit down in the tray solidly. The unit does not completely turn off unless the power is cut to it, the unit has a "Standby" switch only. Because the SACD technology is new, I did not want to buy an expensive unit for several thousand dollars at this point. I guess for the entry level price I can't expect the machine of my dreams.

Very good performance for price

At $... w/free shipping, this player is about the least expensive DVD/SACD player I have come across. I am very happy w/the DVD playback and the sound of SACD.

I have one cause for concern regarding SACD playback, though: When I put in hybrid CD/SACD, the player often refuses to recognize the SACD layer and only plays the CD layer. It usually takes a few times of putting the SACD in before it will recognize and play the SACD layer. It is very frustrating when I put an SACD in and can only get CD.

Overall though, the features work great. The remote and menu system are a bit complex at first, but they soon become fairly easy to navigate.

DVD plus great-sounding SACD

This is a good DVD player at a very reasonable price. But it has an additional feature which makes it very special: in addition to DVDs and regular CDs, it plays the new SACDs -- which are the finest sounding recordings currently available.

When conventional CDs became available they displaced LPs in the marketplace because of their small size and the fact that their sound did not degrade with the ticks and pops that even the best-maintained LPs eventually acquire. But, despite these advantages -- as well as significant improvements in CD sound over time with technological advances such as oversampling -- many connoisseurs maintained that CDs never achieved the warmth and high-frequency sweetness characteristic of top-grade audiophile LPs. Now that has changed. Super Audio CDs are superior in sound to the finest audiophile-quality LPs I've ever heard. Furthermore, even conventional CDs played on a SACD player sound better than they do on typical CD players. In fact, the best conventional CDs in my collection equal audiophile-quality LPs in sound when played on a SACD player and the new SACDs sound even better. If you're going to buy a DVD player, why not get one like which also plays both CDs and the new terrific-sounding SACDs?
