5I love this whetstone!
By Laura D. Bush
This is a great buy if you need sharp knives. I am a line cook and use the stone about once a week. It doesn't take long to get a great edge... whichever technique you use. The pink side (very coarse) does most of the work for you. Then run the knife over the blue side a few times and voila...a super sharp knife. I also like that the stone came with a plastic cradle to rest in so it doesn't slide all over the place. This stone is worth its weight in gold...and it's worth it because as long as it doesn't get lost you'll never have to buy another one.

5Effective, Low-Priced Sharpening Stone
By K. Bullock
This reasonably-priced stone has everything you need for basic knife sharpening. I found it easy to use, and it does a great job on my kitchen knives.

5Best stone I've ever purchased
By J. Cha
This is the first stone I purchased while I was in culinary school 4 years ago. 4 years later I still have the same stone (it's worn down, now). I only have to put my knife against this stone at least once a month. It gives me the best edge I could possibly want.

5Does a Fine Job
By Josh Keller
My only wish would be to have it be a little longer. The ceramic material is harder than traditional stones, which gives it a different feel, but is just as effective, and won't warp the way whetstones do after multiple uses. Great tool for keeping razor sharp knives.

5I just love it
By H. RHEE
I guess I'm a traditionalist since I don't use machines to sharpen my knives--this isn't just great for Global knives--it works well on all types of knives. My boyfriend makes sure to keep the surface even so we won't have to buy another one from creating dips (common mistake for many novice stone users). It's worth the price I paid.

5beats a piece of 600 grit sandpaper on a piece of wood!
By J. Hall
gift for my husband, he bought us the highly recommended ginsiu (not sure of the spelling but NOT the sold on TV brand. available on Amazon for under $100 IIRC). No more dishwashing the knives and he has a leather strope and all to keep the sharp on the knives. This whetstone came up on the cyber deals before Christmas, and at 1000 grit, was finer than what he had been using for final burr removal, even though Global considers this a medium grit. I would have bought him the fine grit too, but it was $120+. I'm not sure it's necessary. The whetstone adheres to our Silestone counters, is far more attractive than the sandpaper, and does a fantastic job. I am not going to include a pic of the shaved patch on hubby's arm where he tested a blade. Great price on the cyber deal but if one is keen on sharp knives, still a good investment.

5Our favourite cheese knife
By L. F. Hunter
The idea of a cheese knife with "holes" in the blade is to reduce the friction as one slices cheese, thus ensuring consistant slices, without the cheese crumbling or falling apart. This Global knife delivers admirabley to the task. Indeed, the design best fits hard cheeses, and Global have (imho) the best knife for this, period. Our old "stamped" knife bends and is awkward (dangerous) on hard cheeses. For soft cheeses, this may not be the best knife, probably a knife such as one would use for pate would be best. But, it is the penultimate for soft cheeses, and the best all round cheese knife my wife and I have ever experienced. We never regret the purchase.

5Amazing piece of art for all cheese addicts
By A Customer
This beautiful Global knife comprises all distinctiveness of that great brand, including the price though ...It is great for semi-hard and hard cheeses (although I would not strongly recommend it for Parmesan cheese, despite that it worked fine for me, since Wustohof parmesan cheese knife is appreciably more efficient for that purpose). Don't pay much attention on those that tell You advices such as that other [less expensive] imitations with similar shape would do the same job (I tried several of those prior I got Global). On the other hand, don't expect this knife to do a good job for soft cheeses.Global knifes need a tad amount of attention and care, and in return beside superb design and balance (of course, which is an individual thing) are very thankful and durable. So if You are not cheese addict and prepared to give this knife care that it needs, then rather buy something else (cheaper that You can toast and replace after short time) - but of course, You won't know what You are missing ...

5Another great Global knife
By L. R. Fisher
This knife is great for hard cheeses, I can cut them without the slices crumbling to pieces. It feels very comfortable and sturdy in my hand like my other Global knife. The blade has a serrated edge so you will not be able to sharpen it easily, but if you only use it for cheese, it should stay sharp for a long time. This is another beautiful Global knife.

5Looking for this for a long time
By Al Fox
Needed a printer for my notebook PC while on vacation. This was just what I needed. With USB was an easy setup, no special drivers required, just "plug-n-play". Slow printing, but good quality. Small footprint, easy to carry. Even fits in my notebook case.

5BJC 85, Still the best
By Old Gold
I'm very pleased with my recent purchase of this printer. The canon BJC 85 may seem outdated by some of the more modern portables, but, in my experience, this is still the absolute best and most reliable portable to carry. The print speed is slow by modern standard, but , in my opinion, that is outweighed by the ease of operation, very light weight, and inexpensive and easily refillable ink tanks. It's still the smallest and lightest full function portable available. The fact that it is is a Plug-and Play with Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 is a HUGE plus in my opinion. No CD to fumble with or loose. Nothing to download. And the USB connectivity makes it a snap. Just plug it into the computer and it's installed. Nothing could be simpler.Sadly, finding that the scanner feature is not compatible with VISTA and 7 is a let down, but if someone runs XP, having the ability to buy a scanner cartridge and convert the printer to a portable scanner is very convenient. I don't think that there is any other portable capable of that. The outside case is durable and hides scuffing well. And it seems to take travel well. I've owned both a newer Canon iP90 and iP90v prior to switching back to this printer and am glad I did. The silver cases of the iP's got very scratched quickly and tended to look very beat up. And both, while giving excellent print, seemed to be very touchy. This BJC 85 is something I've owned before. I'm glad I was able to find a used one in such good shape on Amazon, and am glad to have this old friend back.

4get what you need
By 03mp
They used to say in the Apple vs IBM wars, think about the software and then pick your computer. It's the same in Palm vs CE devices.

I'm a RN so I wanted at least a decent Rx database. Now that there is the Davis Drug Guide for the palm I couldn't resist. And there are loads of apps for the palm (check out palmgear.com). The palm has a big user base so most of the plentiful apps are either very cheap or free.

Palm devices are up against the wall though, since the standard 8MB is laughable for anyone wanting more than an address and date book. I like having all my personal info but the Handspring Pro comes with 16MB letting you get down to business, so to speak. I loaded it with lots of apps: Davis Rx, ePocarates Rx, and other medical stuff like ACLS, gtt calculators, lab values... and I even threw in Froggie in case I get some free time =)

I am at 13.5MB with all the medical apps, as well as, noah's dictionary and thesaurus, and hope that I will not exhaust the remaining limit.

Color would be nice! I would not get a color Palm device though. Especially since they don't have any with >8MB. If you are going all the way (with your money) and don't mind the size, a CE device may be ideal.

The Handspring Pro is great for carrying in the front pocket of your scrubs, with all the med information you could dream of moments away. It is easy to use. Long battery life. Seems durable. Hope this helps =)

4Outstanding device using Palm platform....
By R. Shaff
I have been an avid iPaq user for about a year now. And while WIN CE can be a bit quirky at times, lets face it, iPaq's color screen and agility between applications makes up for Microsoft's shortcomings. However, about 3 months ago, I lost the "partnership" (the connection between the iPaq and the PC) and despite countless attempts to reconnect (by myself and a hired IT consultant), we never could reconnect. (Phone calls to CPQ and MSFT were fruitless.)

Because I really needed a device to handle PIM duties, I began reading the reviews (...) for Palm and Handspring. I had heard good things about the Visor products but had yet to experience them (long ago, I owned a Palm III...less than satisfied). After much trepidation, I took the leap on the Visor Pro. The final feature selling me on the Pro was the resident memory (16 MB) and the ability to extend through add-ons.

Since I've had the Pro, I must report, first and foremost (to me at least!), I've had ZERO connection issues. Synchronization has been flawless and beautiful. Beyond that, the Pro has all the necessary functions for the manager or executive on the go plus many, many more via download shareware. Additionally, perhipheral add-ons can turn your Pro into a phone, internet browser and Pocket PC without much sweat. The losses compared to the iPaq? I must be honest, all the touting of being able to create/manipulate Excel spreadsheets or Word documents (via the iPaq) is grossly overhyped. Yes, the availability is nice but who in their right mind is going to create any document/spreadsheet on a handheld-size screen? My only complaint is the screen. With a B&W screen, one can expect issues with light, hue, and contrast. However, after getting very comfortable with a color screen, moving back to B&W/monochrome is a tough move. I'll adapt, however, as Pro's other features make this a top-notch product.

For the money, Pro is my choice. I plan to purchase one for my partner and one for each of my mid-level managers (affordability is another incredibly nice feature of Pro). I'm actually thinking of getting a Pro for each of my teenagers. What a great device to get in control of the mundane as well as important aspects of your life.

5An absolutely wonderful PDA--just fantastic.
By Jeff Edwards
As an avid Palm user, I got lucky to play with the Visor Pro a couple weeks back and have to say, if I were to purchase almost ANY PDA on the market today, this is the model I'd probably go with. When you consider price (and who doesn't?), expandability, accessories and a built-in memory of 16MB (SIXTEEN MEGABYTES???) there simply isn't a handheld product on the market today (that I am aware of) that can touch the Visor Pro.

I remember when my friend first purchased his original Palm about 4 years ago, and with 2MB I thought, there is NO WAY he'll ever have need for more room than that...little did I realize how useful these little guys can be. As far as organizing your life, a Palm device is almost invaluable -- but they can be so much more. With a little patience, you can find free programs on the web to download that you just simply couldn't live without. Everything from maps to games...plus let's not forget the Springboard additions that truly make this PDA something special and a real honest-to-goodness cut above the rest. What really sets the Visor Pro apart from the vast (and growing) competition out there is it comes with 16MB of memory BUILT IN. No need to purchase more right off...this little guy has about TWICE what the *other* guys come with standard. Pretty impressive when you consider the price of this baby. Plus if you need more, the expansion abilities make this one of (if not THE most) versatile PDA's on the market today.

I am still sold on my little Palm M125, don't get me wrong, but for the price of just one single expansion card, I could buy the Visor Pro outright. Food for thought when you plan on making that jump to a handheld PDA that truly lives up to it's billing as an electronic device you simply cannot live without.

5We are VERY pleased!
By Scott Pointon
My wife and I suffered with a cheap old blender for years and decided to upgrade with this KitchenAid model. So far we are very impressed with the power and evident quality of this machine. It chews up all sizes of ice cubes with ease and the pitcher is very easy to disassemble and clean. If you want a stylish looking blender that packs a serious motor and no unnecessary frills, this is the one for you!As for the fact that this is a reconditioned model... Ours arrived in factory new packaging and there wasn't so much as a scratch anywhere on the thing. Highly recommended!!!

5Amazing Blender
By C. M. Knox
I bought this blender because I have begun to have a smoothie every morning and my old blender couldn't handle it. I used to have to stop every 30 seconds to stir the fruit to get it to blend. The KitchenAid blender is amazing - I never have to stop and stir and never have to worry about chunks in my smoothie when I use frozen fruit. And it's beautiful - no visual imperfections. I definitely would buy it again, but don't think I would have to as I know that KitchenAid appliances last for pretty much forever.

1Watch the coupler!
By Steven Timmins
We have had thre of these. On each one the coupler broke (the toothed wheel that couples the base to the pitcher blades). THis is a very common problem. Kitchen aid offered us an upgrade on the first one for $40. Then we bought another from Amazon (great price). Both couplers have now broken and Kitchen Aid is not willing to assist. The couplers are only $7 but nearly impossible to replace without a special tool that I have been unable to locate. By the time you pay the appliance store to replace them you can buy another blender. Really annoying. An obvious design flaw. Kitchen aid's only assistance was to offer the professional model at $50 off list, not even as good as it can be purchaced on sale. They dropped the ball onthis one!

Equipped with a locking lid and a steam cap/vent to preserve moisture, this 600-watt electric appliance produces 2 to 10 cups of cooked rice and automatically keeps the rice fresh, moist, and warm for hours. About 30 minutes is required to cook 10 cups, with an additional 15 minutes of warming recommended for maximum fluffiness. The cooker operates simply. There's a single control to begin the cooking process, and lights signal when cooking ends and warming begins. Inside the white-plastic, cool-touch exterior, a nonstick pan readily releases cooked rice and then cleans up easily. Accompanying the cooker are a rice spatula, a spatula holder that hooks onto the cooker's side, and a plastic measuring cup. 4Some experimentation may be in order
By Debbie Lee Wesselmann
Using a rice cooker should be easy - otherwise, why plunk down the money for it? This Zojirushi is user-friendly only after some experimentation since the manual contains almost no information about how to use it. However, since I've finally found the right procedure (as I'll share later), I've been pleased with its performance. First, some background. I have a Zojirushi NHS-10 that worked beautifully from the start, but after a year of use, started spitting and gurgling starchy water all over the counter. With that kind of mess, I was afraid to cook larger amounts of rice, so I bought this model as a replacement. I liked that the top latched and that the vent hole had a shallow well around it to catch expelled water. I had loved the quality of rice that the less expensive model cooked, so I stayed with the same brand. My first attempt with this model resulted in the same gooey mess as with my old model - and I was furious. After several phone calls to relatives who also owned this model, I discovered that you MUST use the measurements provided by the plastic measuring cup and inside the non-stick pan. (Because I found that the plastic cup is not really a full cup of rice and was used to a one cup rice to two cups water ratio, I had used my own measuring cup.) For every Zojirushi plastic cup measurement, fill to the corresponding water mark inside the pan. Fill the pan with water to the correct level AFTER adding the rice. Rinse rice twice before cooking if you want to avoid slight browning on the bottom. Allow fifteen minutes after the machine changes from cook to warm for additional steaming and fluffier rice. How do you cook brown rice? Not a clue. Brown rice requires longer cooking time and therefore more water. My old Zojirushi came with a small manual that provided rice/water ratios for several varieties, but this arrived with almost no instruction. I suggest experimenting with brown and wild rice before counting on it for company. The pan for this model is huge, and you must use at least two cups of dry rice. The size stated on the box is misleading, as two to ten cups refers to uncooked, not cooked, quantities; rice doubles in size when cooked. Although it's not practical for a small family, larger families and frequent rice eaters will appreciate its generous capacity. Cleaning is slightly more complicated (though hardly time-consuming) than with less expensive Zojirushi models since the steam valve at the top should be rinsed free of accumulated starch between uses. (One relative rarely rinses the valve, however, and has no problems.) The non-stick pan cleans easily, although care must be used not to scratch the surface. The cord wraps around the bottom for storage. The unit itself is surprisingly light-weight given its appearance, making it easy to remove from even high cupboards. I have mixed feelings about this rice cooker, as I prefer the results of the less expensive model. However, the overall design of this cooker, with its latched lid, larger steam hole, and "dew" catcher (to collect condensation when the cooker is left on warm for prolonged periods), is better, especially if you intend to leave the rice on warm for an extended time. The biggest drawback of this model is the lack of instruction for users unfamiliar with rice cookers. Three stars right out of the box, four stars once you adapt.

3Mixed results
By xiuh
First off, let me say that the first time I used this rice cooker, I was immediately impressed with the texture of the rice and the ease of use. It couldn't be easier -- add rice and water, insert the metal bowl, close the lid and hit the "cook" button.

After several months of use, I've realized several flaws in the design. First, there is no "off" button. To me, this seems to be a bit of a fire hazard, as it is far too easy to forget to unplug the machine after the rice has cooked (it reverts to "warm", which WILL burn eventually). Secondly, there is no timer or bell to alert you to the fact that the rice is done. I've never quite managed to "catch" it reverting from cook to warm, so after 8 months, I still don't know exactly how long it takes to cook rice in this cooker.

I've also noticed that the metal "bowl" included for cooking loses its anti-stick qualities over time. After several months, rice began sticking to the bottom of the bowl during cooking, resulting in a lightly burned bottom layer of rice. I've also noticed that during the first few months of use, lots of moisture was captured in the drainage caps, resulting in very sticky rice. Now, no moisture is ever captured, and the rice almost seems wet (and often undercooked).

Finally, unless you're positive you want to cook at least two cups of rice every time you use the rice cooker, this is NOT the cooker for you. I honestly thought I'd want to prepare two cups at a time each time I used it, and now I understand that a cooker with a one cup minimum would have been a better purchase.

In all honesty, I don't feel the quality of this cooker was significantly higher than those a fraction of the cost. While I'm certain I'd love the "smart logic" high-end Zojirushi cookers, I would have been better off buying a cheaper model than this one -- the cost was astronomical compared to the quality, and now I feel I'm a bit turned off from Zojirushi. They just have not delivered the quality I would expect from their reputation.

5A great rice cooker
By J. Lang
We eat rice often. We've had a Faberware cooker for years that finaly died. Wouldn't get another as it cooked the rice unevenly with 'burned spots'. The Zojirushi costs lots more, but is well worth it. This unit cooks all of the rice perfectly every time.

I wish we could leave it pluged in, but there is no on/off switch. The overall quality seams very good, what you would expect from a [price] machine.

If you eat rice frequently, and enjoy high quality food, this is an excellent machine and is well worth the cash.
