4Very good saw: could use a slight improvement in the base
By C. Wennet
Overall I am very happy with this saw. I bought it to replace a $50 Skil that I purchased years ago. The Skil still worked fairly well and survived some good abuse, but wasn't a real powerhouse. I've used this Milwaukee several times already and here is what I've noticed:Pros:+ Nice power+ Very nice and easy adjustments for depth and bevel: This uses levers vs. a butterfly nut on my old Skil.+ Tilt lock is a nice feature. Though many people who have this saw never use it, I have actually used it a couple of times: different adjustments when cutting lumber vs. when trimming doors.+ Guide visibility is excellent.+ Base is about 1/8" thick solid aluminum, nice and flat, and solid feeling.Cons:- The base is flat all around. My old skill, for example, had a lip on the back and front side. If you're stuck using a somewhat flat, and inadequately clamped guide (like a straight thin piece of plywood that you trust), that may slightly lift in the middle, you run the risk of the base plate riding under your guide. As a result, at some point I may modify the base by screwing on an additional 1/8" lip on the inside top.- Case: Very minor complaint: it would be nice if it included some blade storage. I have some extra blades, including a cheap plywood blade and an expensive finishing blade. I would love to be able to store them in the case with the saw. EDIT in 8/2007: The case does in fact come with blade storage in the main compartment.Overall, I have no regrets and recommend this saw. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 in part because of the base plate, but also because I can't recommend it above all other circular saws. Both the Journal of Light Construction and Fine Homebuilding had circular saw reviews. This particular saw, a specific Bosch, and a specific Porter Cable, were in the top three for both reviews. Though in the top three of both, This Milwaukee made it into the top 2 favorites/recommended in one article but not the other. Before purchasing this saw, I would recommend finding and reading those articles to decide which of the three would better meet your needs or preferences.

5BBBZZZZZZZZZZTTT-ZZZEEEP!....AAAAAAHHH!......
By E. S. Dummit
As a home improvement and hobby sort of wood worker looking for top value in essential tools, I did my homework very carefully before choosing this one.

Great machine, very comfortable to use with the light weight and smooth power, ergonomically very adjustable, with a brake that stops it cold when you are done (an essential safety feature for someone who nearly sawed his fingers off in his impetuous youth). Great reputation of the company for dependability and quality, so I expect it to last to be handed down to my son or daughter.

5SMOOTH WITH POWER TO SPARE
By TOOL CRITIC "FUDICUS"
This saw is a real joy to use in all aspects. The power is unmatched in the field,it's light weight allows for easy operation and handling. The flexibility of the qucik-loc handle system is very nice-even though you will probably settle on your favorite position it's nice to know you can change it,EXAMPLE:When cutting down on a vertical changing to a flatter wormdrive position aids in cutting leverage. This saw looks, feels and operates Milwaukee tough AND is comfortable to use.The only minor complaint is the cutting\rip fence.First you have to pay extra money for it, and this fence does not cut ultra close rips the way i would like-quauter inch is as little as this fence wants to cut-#1 it does not slide onto saw far enough in to allow a 1\8 in. shave #2 when the fence is in all the way it hits the blade guard#3when cutting thin, say 1\4 material the fence sits lower than the base plate allowing the material to slide between the two.WORK ON THIS MILWAUKEE, IT'S AN EASY FIX-BUILD A BETTER FENCE MADE FOR THIS SAW.OVERALL:TOP RATE POWER

XLNT BALANCE-ERGONOMICS-FIT AND FINISH

THE BRAKE AND QUICK-LOC CORD IS VERY NICE TO HAVE

SMOOTH CUTTING WITH GREAT CONTROL

CUTTING VISABILITY IS VERY GOOD

THE FENCE SHORTCOMING IS FAIRLY MINOR BUT COULD BE IMPROVED UPON

CONCLUSION: BUY THIS SAW,IT'S NOT THE CHEAPEST BUT IT MAY BE THE BEST IN IT'S CLASS-I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A BETTER FENCE THAT MAY EVEN BE INCLUDED WITH THE SAW SINCE THIS IS NOT A [inexpensive] UNIT.BE A LITTLE GENEROUS MILWAUKEE AND THE CUSTOMER WILL RETURN THIS GENEROSITY WITH MARKET SHARE.

5Good solid drill
By J. Cooley
I did tons of research and testing before buying this drill. I was in the market for a cordless or corded, so I looked at both. I had to drill 40-50 7/8" holes through 1/4" steel and it killed my old 3-amp Craftsman drill doing it. I then purchased a Ryobi cordless (300lb./in. torque) and drilled some of the holes. The battery typically drained after 3 holes. I used the first gear for most of the holes I tried, but when I tried to use second gear to drill them faster it smoked the motor. I returned that and then read tons of reviews on corded and cordless for about 3 weeks. The Milwaukee cordless was my favorite but I couldn't afford the $100 more. As far as corded drills go, I looked really close at the DeWalt DW236 and the older short fat-body Milwaukee cordless also. The DeWalt feels slightly better in your hand, but only if you're holding it down on the handle. If you hold them higher up, they feel about the same except the Milwaukee 0302-20 is a tad bit heavier. The DeWalt and Milwaukee both have a single sleeve, all-steel keyless chuck, but the Milwaukee 0302-20 is much better. The 0302-20 holds the spindle in place so you can just turn the chuck with a single hand, whereas the DeWalt requires that you press a button with your other hand to hold the spindle in place while you tighten or loosen the chuck. The chuck tightens down really well and will not slip. Even when the bit caught and spun the upper half of my body with it, the chuck didn't lose grip on the bit. The Milwaukee also has the removeable cord, which is nice. Now that I've used the Milwaukee, I like it even more. The way you grip it really lets you get straight pressure to whatever you're drilling. The cord is somewhat of a hassle since I typically run a grinder, welder, and drill all at the same time and have cords going everywhere. Compared to the older fat-body 5.5 amp Milwaukee corded, this one feels way better. I leaned toward the fat one for a while until I actually picked it up. Your finger gets pinched as you release the trigger on the older ones and they're just not comfortable to hold, plus they cost the same for the same gears but only a 5.5 amp motor.

5Smooth, light and powerful
By James F. Strasma
I bought this after nearly burning out a cheaper drill while trying to drill holes to plant bulbs with a large bulb auger. The difference was amazing. Although more than twice as powerful as the other drill, this one is equally light, and far smoother and more controllable for this task. It quickly drilled 3" diameter holes 8" deep, even when it had to cut through gravel or a tree root to do so.How powerful is this drill, and how well does the keyless chuck hold? After drilling 10 holes, ithe auger got stuck, and instead of stopping, the drill snapped off the end of the auger at the chuck. Fortunately, losing an inch of length didn't matter at all, but it emphasizes the respect with which such a powerful tool must be treated. The all-metal keyless chuck is worth its added cost. The drill automatically locks in position while off, and releases when power is applied. This makes tightening a bit a simple matter of rotating the chuck clockwise. It has a ratchet action which holds the bit tighter than I can usually get a keyed chuck, yet releases easily when time to change bits, by simply rotating counter-clockwise.Highly recommended.

5A fine drill with plenty of power!!
By MicTrik
This is the only corded drill I own though I have used many others. This Drill is rated at 8amps and you can really feel the power of it as I have never seen it bog down. The keyless Chuck is excellent and grips small bits very well. I was skeptical about a keyless chuck at first but after using this drill my fears were dispelled. The side handle is very versitile and sturdy providing positive control. Though the drill may at first appear large and awkward it is actually ergonimically very well designed. The drill is ment to be held between the thumb and index finger while the trigger is engaged by your other three fingers. This is a very stable and comfortable position. The only thing I thought would of been nice to see is the inclusion of user replaceable brushes. This is included on their 5.5 amp models but was removed on the new 8amp. I must also add that Amazon is selling this a bit higher than most local stores. This is not normal of Amazon so if anyone from Amazon is reading this check into it...

4Looks good. Feels good.
By ND
Bought a very good condition, used one from Amazon Warehouse at substantial discount (the ONLY reason why I bought it as I'm not a fan of Chinese made tools at all). This drill is made in China (for those who still wonder). Upon opening the box, it had a lot of oil leaking out from the gearbox. I opened the screws holding the gearbox to the body and reseated the seal and everything seems OK. Milwaukee went cheap (even though they still charge customers the same price) with their tools nowadays. The chuck's jaws are not carbide-lined anymore, just plain steel. I didn't care about that because I replaced the chuck with a 1/2" LFA chuck anyway. This drill has 1/2"-20 spindle thread and therefore will take almost all 1/2" and up chucks that you want to replace it with. It has decent power and speed (7 amps and 1200rpm) for what I use it for. The 3-stars reflects the oil-leaking seal experience.I've just had this for a few days and haven't even used it yet so don't take this review seriously. This is just meant for my first impressions with the drill. I kinda regret that I didn't buy it when almost all Milwaukee tools were made either in the USA, Japan or Germany.Update (03/18/2012):So far it seems to hold up well. Chuck concentricity is good. Drill has lots of power for a 3/8" range. Decent high-speed drill (1200 RPMs). It still exudes that "Made in USA" quality feel even though it was made in China. Therefore, I increased the rating to 4 stars (previously 3 stars)Time will tell whether it will last.

5Very Happy purchase
By Paul R. Glass
Very pleased with the heft and the power of this drill. I don't mind have to be near and outlet or have the proper extension cord because this one will run all day at any speed you choose. locking chuck was easy to get use to and became quick and trouble free changes for bits and drivers.

5Solid drill
By R. Groves
I bought this drill a few months ago after one of my old ones died. Before I bought the Milwaukee I tried a Hitachi from a big box store. It was the best Hitachi 3/8 drill available and it was very disappointing. I took it back and bought the Milwaukee and have been very happy ever since. The keyless chuck works great. The drill has plenty of power. Of course, Milwaukee is usually top of the line when it comes to drills. I also have a Milwaukee 1/2 inch hammer drill and it absolutely smokes the Dewalt and some of the others I've tried. This drill is a little pricey for a 3/8 but you only have to buy it once.

5Drill quality, thy name is Milwaukee Magnum
By Product Master
Bought this to replace a somewhat battered DeWalt, and the difference is noticeable -- on every level. Very torquey, fine speed control via the trigger, reversible (though I don't think they point that out). Nice-looking drill, as drills go, admirably high top speed. Double-insulated so it has a two-prong plug, fine cord length and heaviness. The keyless chuck is two-piece with decent knurling, so I've had no problems with bits working their way loose (so far). The side handle is removeable and adjusts to almost any angle, helping right or left handers steady their grip when working vertically or horizontally.Worst thing I can say about it (besides costing more than the inferior competitors): do not try to use this as a power screwdriver, or you will likely twist off either your screw heads or your favorite arm: no clutch, you see. I am very happy with this unit, and I would bet money you will be as well.

5Very Well Balanced, Love it.
By K. Sampson
This thing is built like a tank and its relatively light. That being said its one powerful drill drives 3 inch screws like cutting butter with a hot knife. Also its very well balanced just feels good in the hand when im using it. For the money i dont think think this one can be beat.

5Back to corded drills
By William D. Hogan
Once again it's proven to me that Milwaukee makes the finest drill available. It costs a little more but after going through a Dewalt and a Minnkota similar quality drill. I can feel the difference in the power and quality. It's nice to have a drill that has power at low rpms, and high rpms to get the job done. Battery operated drills have there place, but in my opinion they will never replace the all around preformance of a corded drill.

5Milwaukee Tools -- You can't go wrong
By James E. Schleske
I bought this to replace a Milwaukee 3/8" drill I had previously. It needed the brushes replaced (normally a simple job). Unfortunately, when I opened up the case to replace them, a lot of little parts went bouncing out and I could never get the trigger to work correctly again. My old drill lasted, I think, about 18 years, and would have gone much longer if I had been more careful in repairing it. It survived a swan dive off the top of my stepladder onto a concrete floor some years previous. So why the long prologue? I really like Milwaukee. Its a contractor's tool. That means its built to work no matter how much abuse it gets. The additional handle with collar that slips over the chuck is also a nice feature. Its easy to get on and off, and really helps steady the drill if you're trying to drill a precise hole. I'm not sure how the price stacks up against 'homeowner' brands of drills (you know which ones I'm talking about). But price really isn't as important to me as having something that will work reliably, in every situation. I went with the conventional keyed chuck (Milwaukee also sells a key-less chuck version). I 've never used keyless, so don't know how reliable it is. Downsides: This drill is a little longer (measuring end of handle to the front of the chuck) than my last one. So it's awkward if I'm drilling in a tight spot. There are right-angle converters you can get, although they're not as handy as they look in catalogs. Also, this drill seems a wee bit heavier than my last one.

5Drill for a Lifetime
By Jonmark Pierce
I've had a Milwaukee 3/8" Variable Speed Reversing (VSR) drill for over 20 years, now--it'll still be going strong when I'm in the Marble Orchard. This drill is so powerful and has so much torque that you have to be careful not to bind up a drill bit while using it--if the bit stops, the drill will twist hard enough to hurt or sprain your wrist. So I never use spade bits or paddle bits with this drill. It will drill big holes in really hard wood as if it's going through butter, provided you have decent bits. It's expensive as 3/8" drills go--and it's worth every dime.

4Replacing a 30 year old Milwaukee
By bufo
This drill is about as good as it gets these days. My old 3/8 Milwaukee had an aluminum or magnesium nose housing. This has a nose that is faux metal plastic. Will it hold up to drops and bangs? The chuck is fine and equal to the quality of my old one. The motor's performance seems OK. A little rougher and less responsive to speed variances. But what are the options anymore?

5Quality machinery
By J. Snavely
I wanted a quality high-speed drill to use primary with wire brushes for paint stripping and metal finishing. After burning up my father-in-laws drill I bit the bullet and bought my own.I've been thoroughly impressed with this drill. The removable power cord is a nice touch. I've been able to run the drill at prolonged high speeds without overheating problems. I have not had a problem controlling the speed.Overall, I would definitely make the purchase again. If I had one request it would be to include a case with the drill.

5Milwaukee Drill Delivers Powerful Punch
By Jay R.
The Milwaukee 0101-20 7 Amp 1/4 in. drill is an excellent tool with low weight and just the right balance. I removed the 1/4 in. keyed chuck from mine and installed a 3/8" all-metal keyless Milwaukee chuck for greater versatility. The Quick-Lok cord furnished standard with the tool is a very nice feature; if the cord becomes severed or damaged it can be easily replaced. Although expensive (but worth every penny), this product is proof that "dynamite comes in small packages".

4Homeowner
By Homeowner
This is a 4000 rpm max drill, that is too fast for some accessories, such as a 5" sanding disk. The varible speed is sensitive, and is difficult to keep the rpm down. The high speed makes the drill best suited for very small (1/8" or so) drills. Otherwise it is a fine Milwawkee product with a nice tight keyed chuck.

I purchased this from Amazon and really feel it's a great deal for the money. I've used it extensivly and it works very good. You really feel safe on the roof or anywhere it's used, IF used properly. You must use it properly for your saftey. It comes complete with all you probley would need. You must read the instructions carefully and secure it properly for safe use. It's a must for getting on your roof and is a VERY good value for the money. Your life depends on this item and everyone should use one if on a roof properly. Get it!

3Great product, poor instructions
By William A. Maietta
The fall protection kit worked great. I have an extremely steep roof. I haven't done any roofing in about ten years, and I've never before worked on a roof so steep that I felt the need for a rope and harness. I felt completely secure up there... that is, after I figured out how it all worked. The instructions are, at the same time, overly complicated and missing basic information. The complication is mainly due to required liability, legal mumbo-jumbo. The lack of clear cut basic information is just wrong. Other than following the pictures on the box there was nothing indicating which way the shock-absorbing lanyard should attach and very little on how the harness works. Those aren't the biggest issues, though. The proper use of the actual fall-arresting ascender is more of a problem. It needs to be noted that your weight cannot be on the device while down-climbing. If you pull on the device itself, it will slip down the rope. This may be obvious to those who have used these before, but not to the uninitiated. Pulling on the rope is fine, and necessary; the device will hold. Grab the body of the device on the way down and it comes with you. Hold the rope, not the device. Be careful.I tested out the whole system hanging barely above the ground before going onto the roof. So, I sorted out these issues before they could have been dangerous. If you've never worked on roofs or done climbing with ropes, I would not recommend this package. Instead, get a pro to do the work. Too many serious accidents occur to take the risk.

5Does the trick safety set up
By Aaron
Nice, simple system for roof safety, I feel much safer on my steep roof slopes for service work, I permanently installed a double sided peak ridge anchor to always be able to lock in safely for house service work. It all fits back in the bag, the harness strapping can be a little confusing at first but I figured it out quickly, the ascender works smoothly & the price is good - I feel confident enough to use it in lean back rappeling position!
