5Great scanner!
By A Customer
This scanner just tears through a stack of documents when scanning. Although it says the document feeder has a 50 sheet capacity, I've found that if you actually put 50 sheets in it, it starts to double feed, so I limit it to about 25-30. I really like the ability to scan both sides of a document with one pass.

For online documents, I'm finding that 200 dpi is more than adequate, unless you are scanning dot matrix printing, then you need either a higher resolution, or to adjust the brightness setting, or both to get a good scan. The worst is scanning dot matrix printing on yellow paper.

It will scan really small documents (like a check) just fine, but if you put different sized documents in a stack to scan, it will pull some of the smaller ones though a bit crooked.

It comes with Acrobat free of charge, ... All in all, I like it, and would buy it again, unless I could afford a faster version like the 4770.

5Not a toy for kids
By Thomas J Andersen
I recently purchased the Matchitecture Mississippi Boat and can safely say that so far it has given me many hours of enjoyment. This is not a "toy" for kids and takes a lot of time and patience to put together. I highly recommend this for all adults who enjoy putting together detailed models. The instructions that come with the kit are perfect and leave no detail of the process out. Each sheet of the instructions is placed under an acetone sheet that is used to glue the pieces together on. The only thing that does not come in this kit is a piece of sandpaper for sanding off rough edges. I hope everyone who purchases this model will enjoy the experience of building their own Mississippi Boat as much as I have!

5Great to teach patience !
By A Customer
I bought this boat for my 10 years old son : After I spent a few minutes showing him how to safely cut his little beans to the correct lengh, and how to glue them together... He had NO problem building it !!... He was very meticulous with it and loved it... My other sons are not as patient, so they would work on it for few days in a row, then "abandon" it for a few weeks, then go back on it, etc... but they ALL loved the results of having built their own boat ! This became a "family project" with my 10 years old son "in charge"... Great to unite all your kids around one table and to have some quiet time in your house ! I have put a 3 stars on durability as this is a model to "expose" not to play with... I have put 4 stars on Educational value as this doesn't teach many things... but he certainly teaches to be cautious, meticulous and patient... and a 5 stars for "how much fun is this toy ?" since all of my 4 sons enjoyed it for many hours, and I enjoyed the silence I had in my house while they were working on it ! you can't beat that !!...

4Great saw, but...
By Jeff Balding
I have a 307MK recipricating saw, and for the most part I really like it. The lever action blade release is nice for tools free blade changes, but the lever seems a bit flimsy being made of plastic, however it has not been a bit of trouble. The push button shoe adjustment is a nice feature also, but it seems to stick and does not function properly all of the time. Otherwise it come with a very nice case, two blades and a great warranty.

All-in-all I am pleased with this saw, and if they could correct the few little problems, I would be very pleased with saw.

5First Recip saw - unbelievable help
By A Customer
This was an amazingly valuable tool and I have no qualms about recommending it to someone who needs a saw to cut into studs or a major demolition repair project. I had an infestation of termites that ate into a first floor exterior wall, and I had only 1 1/2 weekend days to fix it, never having done this before and having a business trip at the weeks start. Since the rental stores were closed - I bought this to help cut the studs. I got the 6" wood blade (it comes with a 4" bimetal. Okay, I was ignorant (I didn't know it cut nails), but I was flabbergasted when I just sliced through nails - so I didn't have to pound or peel off siding and seperated nailed together studs. It cut the studs in a snap (I did have a jackstand holding up the beam). Sill plate went in a flash too. I was able to replace all of the spoiled wood and a safety margin well ahead of any hand tools, plus there's some things, like cutting nails from one side, I couldn't have done. Really did the job. My only note is that they should include a 6" wood blade with this (in addition to the bimetal). It's also a limited use tool - It's impossible to do any kind of a nice wood working cut - you can do a sort of striaght cut for a reinforced support 2/4 to go under (with bracing on both sides of the join). This is for removing things only, also good on branches.

5Great saw for tearing up your house
By Chris Lange
If you are doing demolition, this is a great saw to have. If I had it to do over again I would buy the DW309, but that's just because I like lots of power. This saw has cut through everything that I have asked it to. I just finished tearing out a kitchen, and pulling out a ceiling soffit. Nothing slowed it down. The depth adjustment is a nice feature. Occasionally you don't want to send your blade through the next wall. You can at least knock off about 1 1/2" in blade length with the depth adjustment. A previous review wrote about the plastic lever to release the blade. Now a days most plastic is harder than metal. It feels like a composite of nylon and plastic. In 2 years of use mine has never given me trouble. Blade changes take about 5 seconds. It always works. The blades are always secure. The saw also comes with a relatively long cord. That's nice because on small projects I don't always want to pull out the extension cord. In fact, I nearly did my entire kitchen with nearby wall sockets. Enjoy your destruction.

5Easy to use
By Barbara J. Stevens
If you purchase a notebook computer for yourself or a college-bound child and it doesn't come with a floppy drive (which is becoming more and more common today), then buy this LaCie drive. You just plug it into the USB port. There's nothing to install. Windows will find the drive and away you go!

5Excellent Work Saver
By Regina Pounds
Recently I bought a computer which doesn't have a floppy drive at all. Considering the floppies full of info I collected over eight years, I was dismayed! So last Friday I came across this product - after considerable comparison - and ordered it. It cost only $25.34 at the time. I chose the super saver shipping - 5 to 9 days - ad here I have it today, Tuesday, already. Using Windows XP, I didn't need the installation CD. I just plugged the USB cord in and that was it. However, there was no automatic ikon on the desktop, so I thought it didn't work. I searched My Computer's Hardware listing and found my new floppy drive..dragged the ikon over onto the desktop, and all was well. It works! It's lightweight and looks like a slim cigarette case...it's fragile. You shouldn't shake it, and the humidity in the room may be a problem, but one can take precautions.I'm very happy with the price, the fast service, and the way it works. Even at today's higher list price, it still is a steal.I'm really relieved to know I can access all of my old floppies.

I got it, plugged it in and it works! And no power cord is great since I need to take it to school and that's just one less thing I need to carry around. Can't express how pleased I am (especially when you look at the price)!

5This is the one tool you will always turn to!
By Terse Tojo
It is light, well balanced, and very very powerful. I have turned perhaps 50 different subcontractors onto this tool and everytime I bump into on of them, they mention even more people they have converted. Makita is doing a poor job at advertising this tool.

Another review refers to using the impact for drilling and he is right. In wood. When ever the impact driver sees resistance, it shifts into "impacting". This is fine in wood but in metal, the drill bit slows down grabbing too much material and the impact driver dutifully drives the bit, rachet by rachet, through the metal. This usually results in broken bits and the hex style drill bits get expensive. However, I keep a set of those drill bits for convenience and wood drilling. In an emergency, I actually used a hex drive mandrel (dewalt dw2591) and drove a 3" hole saw through oak in the back of a cabinet. It was slow and I almost went deaf, but the power of the impact driver is truly unbelievable.

I also agree [...] that the 9.6 volt and 12 volt impact driver are nearly identical so get the 12 volt. There is no savings on weight for the reduction in power. However, the new 24 volt stuff is very heavy and only for someone who needs to do something like remove tires, not drive drywall screws. The beauty of the 12 volt is the incredible power with so little weight. We use them all day long.

Another helpful hint. The grey/black batteries are Nickel-Metal Hydride. They can be charged more randomly with less risk of battery memory (which ultimately ruins a batteries' ability to take a full charge) and are more powerful. But, the charge has bad shelf life. In other words, if you plan on using your impact driver and then putting it away for two months, and then pulling it out again, your batteries will be low or dead. The original flourescent red batteries I think are Ni-cad. They have incredible shelf life but are prone to "charging memory" so always wait until they are low before charging them. My suggestion is to buy the more powerful battery set and purchase a spare red battery as a back up. I actually found one of those red batteries left on a job site for 6 or 7 months, and because we only charge red batteries when they are dead, we started to use it. It still had 50% of the original charge of usable power!

I hope who ever is reading this ends up giving this tool a try. I bumped into a makita rep a few years ago and I started hassling him about Makita's underadvertising of this great tool. He said the tool just isn't popular enough for a big advertising campaign. What! Carrage before the horse! When I told that to my friends in the construction business, we all went out and bought additional units (as spares) because we were worried that Makita might discontinue the impact drivers. If that doesn't tell you how great a tool this thing is, then nothing will. Best regards.

5This driver can drill also
By M. Mullins
I bought this tool as a companion for my Makita 6223 12 volt driver drill. I like the size and weight of the 6223 but needed something to drive big screws. The 6914DWBE works great for screws but it also works very well as a drill. Today I drilled piolet holes, countersunk and drove 60- 3 ½" #10 screws in hard yellow pine, all with my 6914DWBE on one battery. All of a sudden I realized that I don't need my 6223. The 6914DWBE is smaller, 5 times stronger and higher RPM. You can buy almost all the drill bits you need in 1/4" hex drive so why carry around the extra drill? The only fault I have found with this driver is the lack of a clutch. It's easy to over drive screws if you don't have a good view of the head. I buried a couple of the big screws I used today. The 6914DWBE doesn't strain or slow down when the head seats. It just keeps on driving.

5The only tool for driving screws!
By Warren C. Jones
I run a cabinet & millwork installation co. and have used cordless drills for driving screws, but after using the impact driver I will never go back. The tool has a narrower width than a drill which is great for tight spaces, i.e. cabinets 15" and under. The tool has plenty of power and takes little pressure to drive a screw. If makita is willing to cut me a better price I will purchase 3 more for my crew (I doubt it). The only thing you might have to get used to is the noise, but I am already half deaf from using power tools for the last 20 years.

5A Workhorse!
By Cyndy B
2001: I had no experience with dehydrating before I got this machine. It comes with a good instruction guide on how to prep the veggies and fruits. The drying times are very accurate as listed in the book. The speed for drying apples is 5-6 hours, maybe less if you leave some space between them, I've found. It also comes with the trays to make fruit leather. Easy to clean with a warm wet cloth. A great little workhorse, all around. Very pleased!Post script 2005: it died when washed out in a 2004 flood of our basement! How ironic!

5Incredibly easy to use.
By Wendy A. B. Whipple
I love my dehydrator. The thing is easy to use, with a controllable thermostat labeled for whatever you're drying (high temp for meat, low for herbs). The manual that comes with it is easy to understand, and has terrific recipes in it. I highly recommend getting the two extra trays, a fruit leather sheet, and plenty of the "clean-a-screen" inserts. (And if you're feeling really adventurous, the jerky making kit is *awesome*!)

Once you've made banana "chips" in your dehydrator, you'll never buy those nasty fried store-bought ones again! Pineapple is delicious dried, and dried apples are simply marvelous. You can dry almost anything, and know exactly what's in it. Why pay good money for chemicals and so-so taste, when you can make your own really healthy snacks for you and the kids in this very handy appliance?

It just isn't any simpler than this!

4Leaving you high and dry
By D Nice
I had purchased this dehydrator at a retail store for more than it is offered here, but it is worth it. I sit in an office chair all day and tend to get a case of the "munchies" during the day. I used to buy candy bar after candy bar, which in turn put a few pounds on me as well. With the dehydrator I can make healthy foods to snack on that are good tasting and economical. I would suggest to anyone looking to save a few dollars and a few inches on the waistline to invest in one. You won't regret it

5Great machine !
By Robert Janicki
I upgraded from Xerox M940, what a change. No error messages, it actually works without a glitch. Double sided copying is wonderful, fast scanning and printing, document feeder is a big plus for multiple scans/copies.Two trays for different kinds of paper ( I loaded one with legal and one with letter size)The only conn is that if you turn it off, the computer will not wake it, so you have to manually turn it back on, but who cares... Got it at Office Max for $... Great deal. Big five stars.

5This is a great machine. I'm Very Impressed
By Daniel C. Morris
I own a small business and I needed to get a copier. Well, the last time I owned a multi-purpose machine it was junk. (expensive junk, too). This was the complete opposite, It copies pretty quickly, but what I love is the paper-feeder. (50pgs...NICE). The printer is also really really nice (2 paper trays...I use envelopes on top and 8.5x11 on the bottom). The most unexpected part, however, was scanning. I dispise scanning. I've spent hours trying to get 2 or 3 pics in my system. What a pain. Not with the HP. Here's how it's set up: On the machine itself, you click "scan to:" and in the little lcd screen, it has all of the programs on your system that you can scan to. (even ms word). Then click scan. It opens your app and puts the scan in there. (I've even done 20pg faxes!).Furthermore! I took a document someone handed to me at a meeting and dropped it in the feeder; scanned to word...stood in amazement. It actually mad the document editable.?!?!? even the fonts were correct. I tried this on my old scanner and it was a joke. No lie, it worked. All I have to say is, "I love my new machine"ps. one negative thing is for MAC users. It is really set up for windows. My client has one on his mac and it [stinks]. However, I couldn't care less about what a Mac user wants. They can get their own special toys with nice colors and pretty icons. Leave business work to HP. So it gets 5 stars in my book.

5Great for an ELECTRIC grill
By Guest
Before I get into this review, we have to understand the product we are looking at: a George Foreman ELECTRIC grill. George Foreman products are essentially useful variations of hotplates. In this case, the hot plate takes the form of a grill (with a stand, a dome cover, a large cooking surface with raised grooves etc...).That being said, this product caters to people (me) willing to try a product that is not a traditional charcoal grill, could be useful in smaller spaces/porches, looks like it is easy to use and clean up, could potentially cut some fat (never hurts, right?), and seems like it will work well as a good back-up grill or a quick solution to throwing mini-bbqs requiring even heat distribution without the hassle of buying/lighting/dumping coal. If that's you, then read on...Here, I'll try my best to outline the grill's pros and cons, as well as do a quick, inevitable comparison it to a traditional charcoal grill.PROS:The pros of this grill basically equal the pros of using hot plates in general:1) Quick Heat - The whole surface heats up very quickly (you'll be ready to cook in a few minutes after you twist the switch)2) Design - Basically you have the stand, a bottom dome, the flat grill that sits on the bottom dome, then the lid (top dome). You can easily remove the flat grill part to use indoors separate from the stand, and it also makes for easy cleaning since you can just throw the flat grill surface in the sink.3) Easy to Clean - The grill surface is relatively easy to clean. Understand, grease is never easy to clean. But in my situation, i wipe off the chunks of grease with paper towels, then run hot water over it in the sink (yes it fits in my sink) and wash it with a soapy sponge. It's basically like cleaning a big oily plate by hand in the sink, however easy or hard that is to you.4) Space Saving - The bulk of the materials are where it should be: the grilling surface. Everything else (aka the stand) is small and portable.5) Easy to Assemble - A no brainer. Put the pole of the stand into the foot of the stand. Attach the grilling surface to the bottom dome. Stick that whole thing on the stand. Then put the cover on top. Took a few minutes while I was watching TV.6) Great Tasting Food - Of course this part is important. I tried cooking everything unseasoned and it just tastes great. I mean, this this one thing I love about hotplates...food tastes good without a lot of seasoning. I cooked unseasoned burgers, top sirloin, chuck roast, kielbasa..it was fast, it tasted good, and it had good looking grill stripes on it when I was done.Cons:Seriously, not much that I can think of. If I had to be picky:1) Could be a little heavy for people with a bad back?2) When you lift it by the handles, the stand comes out (since they're not really "attached"....the grill just sits on the stand.) So you gotta lift it by the pole of the stand, really...this isn't even a con truthfully.3) People complain about the grease not dripping into the pan. Well, it's a hot plate with grooves and a hole in it for grease to drip. Of course not all the grease magically swims toward the magical grease drip hole. But still, it works fine...I didn't notice sever grease build-up that stood in the way of my grilling.Comparison to a Traditional Grill:Really, there shouldn't be a comparison. Obviously this is not a charcoal grill and should never be compared to one. They are just 2 different things, and so they make food taste different: traditional grills basically fire cook your food through the coal's heat so you get the taste of charcoal while this product essentially "pan sears" your food. I'm a long time lover of all kinds of BBQ, and charcoal grills are great fun, make great tasting food and really cannot be replicated. You shouldn't be buying this grill to ever *REPLACE* a charcoal grill; it should be bought to be a 2nd grill that's great for rainy days or a primary grill if you really have no space and don't have time/space to deal with lighting and dumping charcoal.Overall, this grill is an electric hot plate with raised grooves that makes great tasting food quickly, quietly, and easily. And for what it is, it's a SUPERB product (and relatively affordable too!). Go get one! I didn't regret my purchase and I don't think you will either.

5backup grill
By Toya
Originally I saw my mother's George Forman grill (smaller indoor one with lid). Then I saw my brother's Party Size grill. Both of them love their grill. I was able to taste the food from both and found it very tasty and easy to use. I decided to do some investigating on my own intending to purchase the party size grill, when I saw the indoor/outdoor grill. I was impressed with the fact that it appeared to be a bigger cooking surface and the price I found was within reason. I purchased it for the purpose of using it as an extra grill for a cookout I was having. No one used the gas grill at all. I have since used it indoors without the stand, making it convient on rainy days. It is the easiest grill to use and clean that we have ever owned. You can cook everything evenly, because there are no coals to level out. It can easily hold 4 to 5 steaks, 10 big hamburgers, and the list goes one. I am sure there are some drawbacks to those that swear by gas/charcoal grills, but my gas grill has found a permanent residence in our shed, while George sits ready to use at any time indoors or out on our back porch. I am so impressed, that I am purchasing one for my parents for Christmas, to replace the charcoal grill that takes for ever to heat up and messy to clean. I'm sure they'll love it too!

5George is right. It actually does what he claims it will do!
By M. Chang
I bought this grill 4 months ago and have used it several times per week ever since. I am a very lazy cook with 3 hungry teens and a hubby who eats like he's a heavyweight boxer. So, I needed something that would cook and clean-up as easily as possible. I can turn on the grill (it has an adjustable thermostat), take out a package of frozen chicken, hamburger patties, whatever, prepare it as usual, and the grill is ready to go to work. Dinner is on the table in no time. Its non-stick surface is just that, making clean-up simple and quick.I am quite happy with the surface area, as I can easily fit 8 large burgers on at once. I live in the frozen north, so the fact that this grill will also work indoors is plus. It's portable, reliable, easy to use and clean, and a bargain compared to other outdoor grills.George put his name on a very good product.Update: I have owned this grill for 2 1/2 years now and it still works like new!

4Stylish and Great Value
By Pendent
This handsome leather laptop case from ThinkPad manufacturer Lenovo is slim and extremely stylish, though I don't particularly care for the cheap-looking molded plastic handles. It is very well padded, plus the SafePORT cushioning system provides an additional measure of safety from shock that may be caused by the case falling or being dropped. The spacious laptop compartment securely accommodates my ThinkPad X61 with UltraBase docking station. The front pouch offers ample room for an AC adapter/charger, cables, cell phone, and other small accessories such as my iPod and headphones. Best of all, the price is a bargain -- priced less than many nylon laptop cases of lower quality.

5Great Quality
By N. Dula
Everything about this case is quality. The leather has wonderful grain and color. Small (but important) is the quality of the zippers -- very smooth to open and close. Plenty of room for laptop and needed accessories. Not to keen on the plastic handles, but they are practical. This is a great value. I would recommend for your Thinkpad.

5The best there is
By Dale T. Hostetter
I solder about 300charms a day and this has made my life so much easier. The 1/16 tip is perfect and the heat control eleminates all guesswork and the ease of ues of the iorn is just a joy! I like it so much, I'm ordering another. Everything is so convenient and easy to hand to use on this station that it saves a lot of wasted motion. The BEST!!!!!Karen Hostetter

4Can hardly be improved upon, without paying a lot more...
By grickerd
This kind of soldering system has been industry standard since the 1950's. I learned to solder to military specifications on one of these stations back in the 1980's and used it in bench repair of avionics equipment for over 20 years. I own several surplus stations that I use in my ham radio hobby at home.In later years I used much more expensive solder stations with higher tech temperature control methods and slimmer pencils, but I found them to be only marginally better, and so much more expensive that I didn't see any need to buy one for home/hobby use. While the more expensive systems have complex configurations that aid some surface mount work, they were not worth the hefty price for regular through-hole and point-to-point soldering. The tips are readily available, in a considerable variety, and are very reasonably priced. The other components of the system are also readily obtained and reasonably priced. If you wear out the iron or have some mishap with the cord, repair is not a big deal. The reason I am taking off one star is the current physical packaging. The earlier WTCPN station was taller and heavier, with the sponge and iron holder integrated into the top. That configuration was superior because the base was heavy enough to stay put in the course of removing and replacing the iron, and swiping the sponge. There is a set of keyed slots on the WTCPT that enable the iron holder to be fastened solidly to either side of the power unit, but access to the sponge is obstructed from one side. In practice, a quick side to side swipe is normally used to clean the tip, and this is not possible with the sponge blocked from one side or the other by the power unit. The customer image that shows the iron holder perched on top of the power supply is a great idea, but I would secure it in place with cable ties or some other means, so that it doesn't go skittering off when being used. This is a tried and true tool for soldering, at a very reasonable price.

5The best soldering iron I have ever used
By Vernon A. Miller
I've been in the electronics business for a long time and have had the same Weller WTC iron for at least 25 years. The current WTCPT station is basically the same thing as what I have; the technology has not changed at all. Mine has been dropped, rolled over by chairs, stepped on, and used for literally hundreds, if not thousands, of hours, under all types of conditions. It has never failed to perform.I know that my iron is an older version, but I also use the current WTCPT model enough so that I think it's equivalent in quality and function to my old one.I like the fact that it's simple; the power supply is really just a 24VAC 2A transformer, nothing fancy, and the temperature control is very simple (it relies on the fact that when you heat a magnet to a certain temperature, called the Curie point, it loses its magnetism, and when it cools below that point, it becomes a magnet again). So not much to go wrong. One thing I really like is that the element can put out a lot of heat when needed. That means it heats up quickly (it's fully ready to go in 30 seconds or less) and, more importantly, it can deliver enough heat to cleanly solder large expanses of copper or joints with large wires. I've soldered some things with it that I thought for sure I'd need to drag out a soldering gun to tackle.I have other irons, including a variable temperature-controlled one, two hot-air SMD stations, and a few soldering guns (Weller 8200s) but I use the WTC for all of my day-to-day work. I'd recommend it highly to anyone who needs a supremely reliable workhorse soldering iron.
