5Great company to work with
By John Hervert
We ordered this unit in hopes that it would work with our 7760, unfortunately the mounting points for some of the sensors are different between the 7700 and the 7760.Seller issued a return label ASAP and refunded my account as soon as they received their item back. Great customer service!

5One good drill
By Mr. G. W. Vaughan Jr.
This is the second Makita 6013BR drill I've owned. I still have the first one, bought in 1985 and it still works fine! My construction co. does alot of heavy duty drilling so I had to buy a second one. I've changed the brushes in the old one about five times and blow it off every time its used and thats it. 21yrs. old and still going strong!

5Excellent Heavy Duty 13mm (1/2") Makita Drill - Still Kicks Perfectly Thirty Years Down The Road
By alexanderaku
This is a really tough drill that Makita has made almost completely unchanged since at least the early 1980"s. That's when I purchased mine. I don't use it often, but it really performs when needed. Very seldom will you hear this 6.3 Amp motor slow while using it - you'll feel it long before.Through the years this Makita 6013BR has never given me any problems despite very hard use in larger jobs requiring some horsepower. Even the electrical cord is still in good shape. I've drilled everything from hard metals over an inch thick to very thick concrete and wood beams of more than a few inches - using large diameter long shank bits or augers. It's also great for mixing tile mortar. This drill has taken all I've given it, and it's strong enough to actually move you around some if a bit gets stuck while drilling (I'm 6'3" 215 and fairly stout and it can move me). You have to keep a firm grip on it or it can get a away from you.You have to watch the trigger use because it is a rocker style, the upper trigger side is reverse, which means you can slip up and accidentally reverse direction if not paying attention. But I like that it doesn't have one of those wimpy reversing levers that so often get broken in rough use. Top speed is only 500-550 rpm., the speed is not variable, and the power is great enough you won't want to attempt changing direction until the drill motor has stopped moving. Changing direction before the motor stops will also place much greater wear on the motor brushes and everything else.In 30 years of rough use, the only parts I'll eventually need to replace are the screw-in post handle and a part of the trigger handle. The reason is only from so much repeated severe use and tossing this heavy tool around. Some years back, I noticed the screw-in handle had developed a crack above the screw stud in the handle, but it's still hanging in there with me. As for the trigger handle, the two lower tabs for holding the chuck key are on it. One of those tabs broke off years ago, but the remaining one still holds the key in place in the provided key holder.Upkeep? I probably should open the gearcase one day and replace the grease with some fresh. I did that once about ten or so years back. So far, it still sounds like it did new. How does it look? It looks about as good as the one pictured here by someone from Ohio, with one difference - my trigger, from the factory, is brown. This baby is just one tough mother designed to last under pressure. I was actually surprised to see the motor housing plate was still legible when I checked the model number on mine. I plan to go ahead and replace the two parts on mine, even though the drill still works fine like it is.Unfortunately, Makita has now discontinued this model and the 6013BRK. The replacement model for the 6013BK is the 8.5 Amp DS4011, and the larger 9 Amp DS4000.

5Very good drill
By Jeffro
We bought the first one about 5 or 6 years ago and never had a problem. We use it to drill through a lot of wood for our panels that we build in our yard. I would definatley recommend this drill to any do it yourselfer or anybody else who needs a good qualtiy drill with plenty of power to handle any job you need to get done. The only reason we bought a new one is because the old one finally burned up the motor but we put it through alot more work than your typical weekend warrior.

5Excellent Router
By shaft
This is an excellent low cost router for setting up your CCNA lab. I prefer to work on real equipment even if it is a little older than the current equipment in modern enterprises. You get to use the actual Cisco commands via command line and see how the equipment responds and is great for troubleshooting.

5Lightweight, powerful, nice brake feature, easy to use for right handers
By D. Shanmuga
I have used many different circular saws and have a Bosch 7-1/4" contractors saw. It is a real workhorse, but is heavy. I have also used the old Rockwell trim saw, similar to the Porter Cable trim saw which has many reviews both pro and con. These little saws are lightweight and easy to use, but they lack power. The Makita 5005BA has plenty of power, is lightweight, the blade is on the left side, so it is easy to see your cut if you are right handed. And, unlike the old Rockwell or the new Porter Cable trim saws, the Makita 5005BA will cut a 2 x 4 with its 1-3/4" depth of cut. I bought a Makita plywood blade (as this is the main use for this saw) and it cuts a nice smooth splinter-free cut. The brake is an excellent safety feature. The blades are easy to find and buy. I spent several hours researching a lightweight circular saw. This one is the best I could find for the price.

5After 25 years
By Dale B. Haler
I've owned my 5005 for a little over 25 years. I used it professionally for nine of those years. Since then I have made quite a bit of our furniture, remodeled 3 homes, built furniture for both of my sons. Using it last night I finally heard the bearings complaining, big surprise after only 25 years! It's a great tool and when used as designed, leaves a perfect cut. I'll get my old one repaired, but I'm buying a new one to give to one of the boys.

5Near perfect condition, and worked just as well
By Artemis
I purchased this router along a 24 port and 48 port switch for my husband to use in his lab. The equipment arrived in clean, close to new condition, with mounting brackets and most of the cables necessary to install the unit. Dan from the Genuine Hardware was extremely helpful and prompt in answering my questions. In fact, I will order additional items from this vendor without hesitation. The unit works as advertised and my husband is very happy with it.

3Wet Saw
By A Customer
Good little saw that performed very well on 5mm porcelain tile. Has a powerful motor and never over heated, even during a prolonged cutting session. However; I had a few nit-piks that gives it three stars.1) The price! For what you get it should be cheaper.2) The blade. Even Makita's web site doesn't list it.3) The water manifold and valve seems cheap. The valve won't totally shut off the water. If it was made of metal or bonded to the base so it was better protected (for [the money] one expects more) I would feel better. If the water was automaticly turned on when you turned the saw on, even better.4) Lack of a blade guard, you have to wait for the blade to stop before you can set the saw down. Maybe add a brake?5) Blade was not parallel to the base edge so the rear of the blade rubbed the cut causing excess heat there.6) In the sun the rubber water hose would pop off the saw and shoot water like a Keystone fire brigade. Funny the first time.

This was my first attempt at cutting tile and for that it seemed to do very well. No complaints about speed of cut or accuracy (see number 5) and was very easy to handle to do plunge cuts and cut outs. If it was cheaper I would recommend in a heart beat. But for the price I would look around a bit before I bought. I will keep it though.

5This Product Solved A Major Issue....
By John P. Lockie
This is a bit lengthy, but a real world application of this tool, allowing me to give it 5 stars without batting an eye.In this modern IT age it's surprising that software vendors of major applications still force us to use the USB "dongle" in our network for license management. We have multiple applications in our environment that rely on a dongle being connected to the distributing license server for users to be able to access a particular application.Recently we migrated our server infrastructure from physical servers to virtual - and our virtualization product of choice was VMWare's ESX server. During testing it became apparant that access to USB devices on the servers motherboard would not be capable even in VMWare's latest 3.5 release (with no expectation for any future support). The first alternative was to run non-virtualized machines for these annoying dongles. Now we would be extremely limited in our disaster recovery and backup of these devices. They are off our SAN and in the case of disaster we would be screwed (our RTO basically out the window). There was also the issue of a single point of failure for these license keys (another fantastic reason why developers still relying on the dongle for commercial or enterprise software licensing are idiots, wake up people). Now, imagine a product that I could rack up in an off site data center (connected via MPLS or some other IPSec VPN), and mount on a virtualized machine as if it were local to that machine. Now, my license dongles are not even in our building, they are in our off-site disaster recovery location (secure in a Tier IV data center). Users can access them through our local virtualized server, which is of course backed up continually. Should our primary data center go down I don't have to worry about the keys. They are IP based so our network never changed. The new VM that boots will connect to the same USB switch and provide the keys to our users. Our RTO would not be affected at all...I could not have deployed this type of solution if it were not for this product. The amount of money invested in virtualization, disaster recovery, and rack leasing off site would have been largely wasted due to the lack of ability to provide licensing of certain business critical applications...! For the cost depending on your scenerio this is a "no duh" product. Therefore, 5 stars.

5Works well
By Michael Rhoadarmer
The Anywhere USB works as advertised. I'm running two USB printers from a Win2003R2 server in another location. Worked well for me because one of the printers only works as a local printer. Couldn't even get it to work with an HP printer USB printer server. The only set up problems I had were fixed by unplugging the power from the Anywhere USB and plugging it back in.

4Get rid of ugly cable syndrome - 12 step program
By JRH
Well, perhaps only a few steps. But, first you have to buy an expensive item (minus one star). Once over the sticker shock, and after a couple of installation steps, the device works as advertised. Outstanding! I use it in the laboratory to control equipment at a distance. That way, I can remotely control equipment in a refrigerator without freezing my bippy.

3Convenient Little Router, but . . .
By A Customer
I have owned this router for about two years, and its small size makes it very convenient for small jobs, but it does have some shortcomings.

1) The plunge depth gauge is primitive, and its scale is very difficult to read.

2) There is no way to lock the trigger in the "on" position, so you have to hold the trigger down during the entire operation.

3) The insert plate is not included with this router. To do dovetailing or any other type of template work you will need this, and it is rediculously expensive ...considering that it is just a steel ring.

4OK for a Low-End Router
By James W. Densford
The manufacturer tells you (or at least implies) that there is no speed control, and it won't handle 1/2" bits. That's OK for a low-cost router, but there are a couple of other weaknesses. First, it takes two wrenches to loosen/tighten the collet -- there isn't a lot of room in the housing to fit those two large wrenches... Also, there are three adjustable plunge stops -- this is implemented by three machine screws with jam nuts. A third (small) wrench is included for this. The thread on the machine screws is a little coarse, and between the coarse thread and trying to control the screw/jam nuts, it can take several attempts to get the plunge stops exactly where you want them. All-in-all, this is a tough little router without a lot of frills for small and medium-sized jobs.

4I miss this router!
By John W. Wendt
I owned this router for at least 10 years before selling it. It's greatest advantages are small size and light weight. You can work with it for a long time without fatigue, and it can get into small places where other routers won't go. It is also well-balanced and not terribly noisy. After several year's use, the mechanism that locked the plunge depth broke off (it's a flexible piece of plastic that is part of the casing), and while still functional, was somewhat inconvenient. Also the power cord disintegrated but was easy enough to replace. Using 2 wrenches to change collets is inconvenient, but you can avoid bruising your knuckles by positioning the wrenches so that you are tightening or loosening using a squeezing action. This is a 1/4" router, and care should be taken using large router bits mounted on these skinny shanks. The thing turns at 27,000 rpm which generates tremendous g-forces, and it is not a variable speed. As a result, large router bits can bend--I had it happen on 2 occasions to me, and on the second one the bit came loose and flew across my shop with enough force to do some serious damage. It is simply not an appropriate tool for that kind of bit.

I have two monster routers now--a Dewalt and a Fein. But I miss this little baby. It is truly one of the lightest routers on the market, and to think that I used it for 10 years with a couple of minor repairs...wish I hadn't sold it. I miss my little Makita!

4Great card for a HTPC
By Rob Lippert
This is probably the best quality tv card you can buy for the money. Picture is clear and crisp with no dropped frames, and is much better than previous ATI and Hauppauge tuner cards that I have used.

The included Hauppauge software is crap, and their software has always been crap since when I first used it 7 years ago (Its the SAME application!). Its buggy and slow and has a very non-intuitive interface. Be sure to grab Snapstream BeyondTV, SageTV, MythTV or basically ANYTHING else and you will be pleasantly surprised by the difference.

Performance-wise this card is much better than the cheaper TV cards that do not include a MPEG encoder. Using an ATI TV Wonder I would routinely get 30-50% CPU usage when recording programs at fair quality on my 1.3Ghz CPU. The PVR 250 uses less than 5% CPU while recording at much higher quality.

Don't be fooled into buying the more expensive PVR-350. The only difference is the included MPEG decoder/tv-out on the 350. Its sounds like a good idea but unfortunately the decoder really only works with Hauppauge's software (and maybe SageTV) leaving you locked into using their crappy software. Besides the decoding process only uses 30-40% CPU for me and since the encoding uses basically no CPU it does not cause dropped frames while doing PVR decoding/encoding timeshifting activites.

The included remote (gray version) is "adequate" and contains most of the needed buttons. A plus is that is also works with the other PVR applications I have tried: BeyondTV and SageTV include native support for it. Unfortunately the range is really short and I can't get it to work more than about 7 ft away from the receiver, but it is better than nothing.

Bottom line: If you're building a serious Home Theater PC you should consider this card. Even though it costs more than double the cheapest tv card you could find, the quality and performance more than make up for the cost.On the other hand if you're just planning on watching TV on your computer or digitizing some old VHS tapes you have lying around, this card is probably overkill as you won't benefit as much from the hardware MPEG encoder and there are cards out there that have better software packages and remotes for less money.

I bought this card mainly to transfer the contents of some old VHS video tapes to DVD. It did not take much work getting the card installed and running but the software has some glitches. It is intuitive and easy to use but sometimes for some unknown reason it will freeze up. This is easily recified by doing the old Ctrl-Alt-Delete routine to end the program but it is annoying. The program will freeze up and need to be restarted at least twice an hour. You cannot use any other software to interface with this card. I tried 3 different video editing programs with no success before I went to the manufacturer's website. They have a section on there where they tell you that the card will only work with the software that came with it. Even the slimmed down Ulead Movie Factory Toolkit that came in the software package cannot interface with the card directly. That was a little disappointing. The WinTV software does work and I am satisfied with the quality of video that I am able to capture and save with it and the card. Hence my rating of 4 stars.

There is one other strange issue that I have had. I'm not sure if it is the card or a coincidence but you might want to watch out for this. My husband has several video games installed on the machine. Shortly after we installed this capture card, a few of those games stopped working properly. The games would run and we could hear sound but the graphics would not display. No amount of tinkering, reinstalling etc could fix the problem.

4Great PVR card, software has some issues
By M. Conner
Ok, I bought this used off of ebay, so I didn't pay the retail price, so anything negative I say about the card might be more of an issue if I'd paid retail for it.The drivers for the PVR-250 have issues. If you have any kind of software DVD decoder on your system, such as PowerDVD or WinDVD, the PVR software doesn't play nice with them (the CPU usage jumps to 100% and the computer stops responding) -- you have to uninstall everything, then install updated drivers that work better with the DVD player. I ended up having a lot of software conflicts and decided just to wipe my hard drive and reinstall XP. That being said, everything works fine now :) but if you're not very techno-savvy and don't have a lot of patience, you might take this back to the store. Now that those caveats are out of the way -- I love this card. The recordings it makes are high quality, you can select the quality/compression level you want to use, you can even do lower-bitrate (ca 1.4Mb/s) MPEG-1 captures with DVD-compliant audio (48KHz) and put 6 hours on a rewritable DVD. The higher-quality full-res MPEG-2 captures are also very good, which come in handy for recording stuff I want to keep. I primarily bought this card for time-shifting stuff, though. The timer recording software is SUPERB. If you set the WinTV app to mute the volume while it's recording, it records your programs very unobtrusively. I haven't tried the TitanTV scheduling yet, but it's supposed to be integrated -- point, click, record. My only real complaint about the recordings this card and the software make is that the MPEG files have to be remultiplexed for VCD/SVCD before they're burnable. It adds an extra minute or two to the burning process. In the grand scheme of things, this ain't a big deal, but it is worth mentioning.--UPDATE: SIX WEEKS AFTER ORIGINAL REVIEW -- after owning this card for about six weeks, I have to recommend getting a third-party software solution instead of using Hauppauge's software. I had a lot of crashes using WinTV's software -- including programs I really wanted recorded. I now use Frey Technology's Sage Recorder, it's a no-frills, inexpensive Java-based PVR software package. Highly recommended, works great with the PVR-250.

5joyful little beast
By jamal
For what this is, it is an excellent little beast. It does its little tasks perfectly; I keep it for hinges and lock keeps. I set the depth at the beginning of the job and never have to change it. My more expensive and heavier router stays in the box.Weighs nothing and with the right bit it saves me a fair amount of work.Buy it without thinking too long or deep.

5Great
By D. Kopp
All my routers are Makita and they're all a pleasure to use. This one is no different. I wanted something I could put a template on to rout door hinges. This is light weight and great for that job. Just beware it only accepts 1/4 inch bits.

5Best price out there
By thegoodwifey
I bought this router for my husband for Christmas. He makes wood signs and needed a light weight router for carving. He put the Makita 3606 router on his wish list but thought it might be expensive since you can only get them from the manufacturer or independent wood shops. I found it on Amazon for an amazing price and he was so excited on Christmas morning. He has already made a few signs for our friends with it and he LOVES it!! This was a GREAT BUY!!!!

5Great Equipment from Great Vendor
By Artemis
I purchased this switch along a 24 port switch and a router for my husband to use in his lab.

4Tymothy Park, builder
By Tymothy Park
I used a friend's Porter-Cable Model 367 power plane and quickly began to wonder how I got along without a power plane for so many years. I thought I'd get the same model Porter-Cable, but it appears Porter-Cable replaced it with another model. Further, all the reviews I read about Porter-Cable power planes in Amazon.com left me somewhat confused so I thought I'd try Makita, a brand with which I've had good success. I went for the 4 3/8" model because I could true a built-up beam in one pass. When I got the Makita I first noticed the weight difference between it and the Porter-Cable. The Makita is heavier and at first blush seemed better suited for a shop rather than a jobsite (one must always keep in mind bigger might not be better). The next thing I noticed is the drive belt on the Makita is not fully enclosed like the one on the Porter-Cable (I nicked my finger with it, and for a brief second I thought it was the blade that nicked me). Finally, the exhaust port on the Makita dumps out the chips (often plentiful) right next to the air intake for the motor (the Porter-Cable has a two door system that lets you vent the chips to either the right or left side). Despite these short comings I really like the Makita. It's way powerful which I believe calls for the extra weight and compared to, say, a Mag 77 worm drive saw it's a fly weight. It's very smooth in part because you're limited to 1/16" cut, the cutter head turns @ 16000 RPM, and my blades don't yet have any nicks in them. For me the bottom line is how much I use a tool, and it's a rare day that I don't press the Makita into service. Compared to no plane there is no comparison. Compared to muscle powered planes, I think you will wonder why it took you so long to power up. Compared to other powerplanes, well let's say the Makita's flaws are evident (are you listening, Makita), but it's still a way useful tool.

4Great Planer!!
By Tim Lawley
I needed a good heavy duty planer to scarff 1:8 slope joints in plywood sheets (I build boats). This planer has met all of my expectations. Plenty of power. Accurate cutter depth control. Extremely easy to change/sharpen blades. I would have given it five stars except for the useless chip collection port. Chips and dust dump out right by the motor fan! Small inconvenience though. All in all a very nice tool!
