I was using a lot of paper and waisting a lot.I use weird custom sizes and wanted to print some Panorama 45" long shots so a roll was the only way to goThis paper did not curl that much - the Premium coated photo paper in a roll was hard to handle. You do need some space to roll it out.Very economical

4Makita HP2010N
By A Customer
I bought the Makita HP2010N back in 1990 and still have and use it today. It has been used extensively in hammer-mode with a 3-5/8" hole saw to cut holes for ceiling pan boxes in oak beams and for overhead drilling on post and beam construction. It will spin a 7/8" X 18" Greenlee Nail Eater in the "High Speed" position repeatedly through 12" solid oak beams with very little effort. The ½"chuck is very good and when properly tightened, never seems to let the bit slip even under heavy hammering in masonry. This hammerdrill is heavier than the others I currently own and although it has a ¾" masonry capacity, it is slightly slower to complete holes when drilling in hardened concrete, mostly due to the lower impact of the Makita's hammer mechanism. Because of this, I use it mainly for drilling in hollow concrete block, hard wooden beams or metal, where this drill really excels. I wouldn't recommend it for heavy masonry drilling. A rotary hammer is usually a better choice for that type of work, but a hammerdrill such as this one can also do the job satisfactorily sometimes. The HP2010N is a very rugged and well made tool. During almost twelve years of very hard, on the job use, the only repairs made have been to replace a worn out trigger switch, brushes (due to normal wear) and a damaged power cord.I would definitely recommend this tool for anyone who is looking for a very durable, long lasting hammerdrill that will only occasionally be used for drilling in masonry.

I have used makita hp2010n for mixing thinsets and grouts for over 20 years. I have only gone thru 3 of them. The weight is not as bad as other big drills I have used,(and those I gave away).I was talked into buying a lighter model the 2050. I used it for the last 2 years, when when my third 2010 burned up. Somewhat of a mistake, not enough power, and Today april 18th 2009, it died after 2 short years.I'm buying my forth hp2010n on line right now. One thing it and simular hammer/drills of this type can't do is be a real hammer drill, they are all to slow. So buy a hammer drill that takes sds bits etc.I have bosch and makita sds hammer drills they work great. As far as mixing thinsets, grouts for tiling and regular drilling with great power, I haven't found anything on the market I like better. Oh yeah and 5,6,7 days a week for 7 years each. Well you do the math.

3Ok drill, but lacking in power for more demanding applications
By Peppy
Purchased this drill with the intention of using it to mix small batches of mortar (5gal buckets) While it does work, it strains and gives off a burning smell when mixing a full bucket. I purchased the Milwaukee 5380-21 1/2-Inch 9-AMP Heavy Duty Hammer Drill a couple of weeks after this one, I am much more impressed with the milwaukee, it delivers the goods without the apparent strain on the motor that the makita displays. As a contractor intending on using this just about every day for mixing buckets of mortar, I couldn't see it lasting very long. Have since sold the makita and will keep the milwaukee. I would think that this drill would be more than adequate for home and light commercial use, however, for heavy duty use and at a cheaper price to boot, the milwaukee wins hands down!

This paper is the best for 20" x 30" posters our company prints for international and domestic tradeshows. We used to have to laminate our posters for the shine, but with this gloss it is no longer needed. Amazon.com is also the best place for a deal. We purchase half a dozen at a time and it lasts us for 3 months.

5Very good tool for the price
By Michael McDonald
I am a builder and remodeler. My company frequently has to do concrete removal work. Usually for installing egress windows in basement walls or for moving underground plumbing. The first time we used this tool was to go through a basement wall we had scored with a concrete wet saw. The wall was 10 inches thick and the the blade can only go down to about 4 3/4 inches. This tool broke through the rest of the way in minutes. We were left with a large heavy slab 10 inches thick that had been in the hole. I was able to break the piece into 12 smaller pieces within about 5 minutes to make it easier to carry. Great tool so far

4This hammer breaks rock.
By Sandy River
I have about 5 cubic meters of various stages of decomposing granite to remove. The spade bit slices through the soft granite like butter. And the point bit eventually breaks hard rock into managable pieces. I started off with a pick & sledge and rate this tool as 200 times easier. Or, for every hour breaking with this hammer, you would need 200 with the pick. The HM1500B accepts standard bits which can be bought at Home Depot. It is a little heavy with the bit in place, but it does the job.

I like the light weight of this tool for a jack hammer. I have used it for digging ditches with a 5 1/2 inch clay spade, and breaking up small amounts of concrete. It has worked well for everything that I have used it for.

4Great speakers for the price -- incredible sub, light mids
By M. Saunders
After using my previous Logitech 2.1 (satellite + sub) speakers for several years (and loving them!) I decided that for the price, these 640s would be worth the "risk" to gain 5.1 sound.

As usual, Logitech did a first class job on packaging the speakers. Everything arrived in great condition all protected in plastic bags to avoid any cosmetic flaws. Unpacking and set-up of the speakers was very easy -- all of the plug/cables are clearly marked and the cables are of reasonable length (important for the rear channels).

The performance of the speakers is good, especially considering the price range. They are a bit light on the midrange but for most computer applications (ie. games!) this is not an issue. The subwoofer is incredible -- I have to keep the sub set to minimum (there is a knob on the sub itself) since I live in a townhome with shared walls. I just popped a Techmaster P.E.B. audio CD in (a CD that is VERY heavy on the bass - commonly used in car audio competitions) and the sub does a wonderful job of reproducing the extremely low frequencies.

The high-range is good, as one would expect from satellites of this size.

All of the controls are positioned on the center channel speaker and include a Volume, Power, Fader, Center, and Matrix (for if you don't have a 5.1 soundcard) knob/button. The satellites stand on nice matte aluminum stands. The sub is probably around 10 inches cubed, with the speaker exposed on one side (behind a grille) and all of the connections on the opposite side. Cosmetically, these are nice speakers.

So, for the price, I cannot complain. Compared to my previous set of Logitech speakers (Soundman Extreme) and other speakers I have listened to, my only complaint is the midrange reproduction. Other than that, if you are a gamer or a basshead, these speakers will please you.

Mike

4Great value for money
By BuzzCut
I just picked these up after seeing a deal at Amazon. I read all the prior reviews on this site and was left with a realistic set of expectations.

Pros:Great priceGood build qualitySolid bassGreat high end

Cons:Mid range a little weakBright blue LED on center is just plain stupidBass control on sub - would be better on the center with all the other controls

Note: I have these connected to an Audigy 1 sound card.

Setup:- system was very easy to connect up due to color coding but the packaging and tape over the wires was a pain to try and remove - that took longer than the connections. The build quality of the components seems good and the cable lengths were about right for the way I needed to set it up. However the blindingly bright blue LED on the center is just plain stupid and I had to put electrical tape over that within the first 5 minutes.

Sound quality:- I play games, listen to some music and watch some DVDs. It was clear to me that the default settings on my setup gave a less than stellar sound and required a fair amount of tweaking. Once the settings were correctly configured the sound went from "merely ok" to "very good".

I agree with reviewers that have said the system is a little weak in the mid range but it is not so bad that it detracts greatly from my enjoyment of the system.

Music is good, movies are very good and games are excellent through these. Battlefield 1942 through them is an entirely new experience compared to the (good quality) stereo+subwoofer speakers these replaced.

Bass is sufficient for a small to medium sized room, the highs are clear and the channel separation is good. Mid range is a little weak.

Clearly you can get better quality but not until you go up to 3 or 4 times the price.

Overall summary is that these are great speakers and well worth the money - I would recommend them to anyone and I think they will keep me happy for a few years.

4Excellent speakers for the price
By Ivan K. Samuelson
I wanted a set of speakers that I could eventually use with a 5.1 surround sound system away from my PC. Testing out various speaker systems at a local computer shop, the Logitech Z640s had the best sound for the best price - $... with a $... rebate.

I was already looking at eventually getting a Sound Blaster Extigy to use as my Dolby converter, but with the Logitech Z-640s, it has the "Matrix" surround option which simulates surround sound from 2-channel sources. I was actually impressed with how well it could simulate surround sound. In many areas of movies, it actually worked! However, once I obtained the Extigy, I can attest that nothing can take the place of true Dolby Surround decoding. However, for those on a low budget, the Z-640s with the Matrix surround sound is an excellent buy.

The stands on the two front and two rear satellites allow to you either leave the speakers standing on a table or mount them to the wall. The center speaker's stand only gives you the option of leaving it on top of your monitor or TV set. It allows only two positions: angled up or angled down depending on whether it's placed below or above your listening level. I do wish it allowed mounting to a wall, since that is where I have my front speakers and the center channel should always be inline with or slightly behind the two front channels.

The sub-woofer pounds out the bass so well that my wife is constantly telling me to turn it down! From our rec-room in the basement, she says she can hear it up in our second-floor bedroom. Now, that's some powerful stuff!

Hooking up the speakers is pretty simple. The satellites hook into the subwoofer. From the woofer, another cable comes out with the standard lime-green (front), black (rear) and orange (center/subwoofer) connectors for 5.1 sound cards. Logitech provides a connector that allows you to hook up the speakers to a 2-channel source and utilizing the Matrix option, you can get simulated surround. The front and rear connectors hook in on one side and on the other are standard RCA jacks so that you can take the audio-out of a DVD player or game console and hook it up directly to the speakers. That is an excellent move on Logitech's part. The power supply is internal, so no bulky power supply block is needed to plug into your outlet which can take up space.

The rear speaker cables only allow about 10 feet, which wasn't enough for me. The wires would be running across the floor, except I went and purchased a pair of RCA extension cables and that fixed the problem real well with no degradation of sound.

All the controls are placed on the center speaker EXCEPT for the bass control, which is inconveniently placed on the back of the subwoofer. For me, it's not that bad as the subwoofer is not out of place. But, for those that love to hide it behind furniture in the corner of the room, it could be a problem. The controls on the center channel consist of the power button, volume control, fader, center channel volume and the Matrix button.

The look of the speakers is pretty slick and professional looking. I haven't had any problems with distortion of sound nor interference with the TV.

For the price, this is a definite buy for those people on a budget, but who want some great-sounding speakers. Other people who are more particular with the way their sound system works would probably do better looking elsewhere.

If you want to spend some more money, there are other speaker sets out there that have Dolby Digital decoding built in, but some are over $...(THX certified) while others are around $... (Dolby Digital only), but I don't know how well they sound.

The best thing to do is shop at a store that has the speakers set up for testing so you can determine for yourself if they are the right choice for you.

5HM0810B - the best chipping hammer on the market!
By Dennis Conspec
the HM0810B is the best, lightweight hammer on the market. 2900 blows per minute, with a weight of only 11.7lbs. This is the hammer that should be used for chiseling, chipping and scaling, NOT the HK1810, which should only really be used for removing tile and plaster.

5Great
By Max Power
Light weight, easy to handle, but powerful. In case you were wondering, this is not a rotary tool, you cannot drill holes into concrete. This is strictly a demolition tool. Spline shank are different than SDS max bits but work similarly in that the bit is directly impacted, which is the most efficient energy transfer, rather than an entire chuck being moved. There are adapter bits you can use if you want to use your SDS bits in this. Not having the rotary feature means there is less to go wrong, as the dial that switches between hammer and rotation almost always is the thing that goes out on these types of tools. It also makes the entire movement more solid. On some SDS drill chucks if you use the beat-only option it will permanently add play to the movement. I think having a tool dedicated to hammering and a tool dedicated to drilling is the way to go for maximum longevity and long-term will stretch your money the farthest. To see the types of bits you can get for this type in "spline shank" in amazon and cross off the ones that are spiral bits.Hope that helps.

4Best Log Dog Chip Hammer on market to date
By Jay Banderob
After years (20) of use of this and other models and brands, this particular model makita still stands head and shoulders above all others for both performance and durability in the hard daily use of the log home industry. It has suplanted all other makes and models to become the industry standard. Still it(and virtually all others) require minor modification in this application: Lose the sappy varro-handle, and create your own 2-3"x long log gouge. Or have it created for you (spendy).

5Wow - Awesome Tool.
By Jeffrey D. Kent
I had to remove quite a bit of kitchen tile on the counter and the backsplash and this tool did it with ease. I originally budgeted 2 weekends to do this tile removal job, but I finished it all in one afternoon using this tool. I removed all the counter top tile, tons of backsplash tile, tile that was adjacent to a bay window, the sink and the faucets and this tool worked perfectly. It's almost surgical in the way it takes out the tile. I used the bigger of the 2 chisels that came with it and left the speed setting at the default setting. For the initial tile removal, I would work the scraper along the grout lines at about a 45 degree angle and the tool went through mortar like it was butter. I was especially impressed with the way it would chip up the mortar bed/chickenwire that was under the tile. I plugged the tool into a wet/dry vac that would turn on when the tool turned on and I ran the vacuum hose through the handle and zip-tied the end of the vacuum hose to near the chisel. Thus as the scraper generated that really fine dust, it would get sucked up by the vacuum. I figured I vacuumed up about 5 pounds of dust, given how full the vacuum bag was, when I finished. The best part was that my arms weren't totally wiped out from 5 straight hours of running the tool. Granted it's an expensive tool, but if you have to remove tile this beats a sledge hammer and chisel and it's fun to use!

4Very Effective Tool
By Michael Basista
This tool quickly removed a bathroom tile floor and the mortar base underneath. It doesn't require much operator strength to use. It's also able with a more delicate touch to removed just tiles without major damage to the surface beneath. I only gave it 4 stars because once in a while the retaining clip for the chisel would unlock causing the chisel to fall out during use. Not a big issue, but slows you down for a moment.

5Very convenient
By magellan
I just bought a pack of these and I have to say, these are really a great idea and extremely convenient. I can fit all of my most used documents on the smaller "business-card" CD, and then I just stick it in my wallet. It easily fits in a credit-card-sized slot, and is only slightly thicker than your typical credit card. If I ever need one of my documents, I just whip out my wallet, pull out the little CD, and slap it in the drive.

My only caution would be to make sure these have enough capacity for your needs. These disks state they have about 50 megs of capacity, although when I check the actual size under my XP system, it's only about 40 megs. That's still more than enough for me to store everything I need, and I don't know if that's a typical finding or not. The main thing to remember is that the regular 3.5 inch mini-CD's store over 200 megs vs. the 40-50 megs here. So remember to take that into account.

The only downside to these is that they aren't read-writeable. That's still workable for me, since I can just create an extra directory with the updated information and just keep doing that until I run out of space and need to get another disk. Since I only need about 10 megs of space, that means I can update the information four times before I run out of space, since the file sizes don't really increase much in size.

Overall, a very useful and convenient little product.

5Tileman likes
By J. Preus
I am a tile installer and I have to remove tile all the time for prep. This tool is great for tile removal, I have used one for about 3 years now and it is still going strong. I actually use to remove tile by hammer and chisel, not no more. This is even better then renting one of those pneumactic tile removers that you hook up to a air compressor. I use this in conjunction with the Bosch concrete grinder and WOW, you would not believe how fast you can get tile up and grind down the thinset. Great product.

5This is the bomb!
By Leslie Newman
I am a tile contractor and bought this for tile removal as I got tired of removing tiles by hand.I got this unit because it's a lot lighter than a demo hammer and it's perfectly designed to remove tiles.I use this tool alot and so far it hasn't given me any problems. It gets bumped around alot and is still going strong.I have also used this to scale newly poured concrete and it worked like a charm. It's also really good for breaking up concrete.Demo hammers have their place but if you want something light that will get the job done easily, consider this one. It's really great.

5A great timesaver
By Ismael C. Alvarez
I bought the Makita to help in renovating a remuddled kitchen. I wanted to clear the stove/sink wall of poorly installed ceramic tiles which looked daunting if done by hammer and chisel. Much to my surprise, using the Makita, I was done remarkably fast...with a bonus of it being enjoyable. The tool is comfortable to hold and of reasonable weight. In fact I was done before any fatigue set in. The variable speed trigger gave me very exacting control of chisel penetration and minimized wall damage. Eye and ear protection of course is a must. I'm now considering the bathroom. For removing tile it excels.

5Solid device

Believe it or not there are still many uses for modems. We use quite a few of these at work and this is the only brand we will buy. Very well made and reliable.

1Too Hard to install modem
By T.F.
I bought this modem to run with my IVM (Interactive Voice Machine) I did finely get it to work. Some problems I encountered. No CD and not enough paperwork to download the drivers. I called tech support and they said download here. The driver they have wasn't an exe file. I spent too much time figuring it out. I had to beat it into my computer. (lol)Full duplex no way this is a half duplex modem. just copy the full duplex and half duplex and past it into Google and do your research. Also the caller I.D didn't work at all. BummerThe Multi-Tech website has software that you can download to use with the modem but you had to buy it. I did try the software but I wouldn't buy it for the price. It was hard to use and it had a doss like look and ran like doss. you can find better phone software on the net.

5A well built and useful tool
By A Customer
I have used this tool for sanding down paint on houses, a job it is particularly well suited for. The features I appreciated most were:- Light weight (much lighter than a disc grinder - but it still feels well built)- Great balance (making it much easier to use one-handed than a grinder)- Durability and suitable power

Overall, this is a great tool for painters, which is why it seems to be standard issue with many pros. If I were using it for anything else (sanding or grinding fiberglass, for instance), I would personally prefer a sander that has speed control (such as the 7" sander/polishers from Makita or Milwaukee) so that I could have better control of the amount of material being removed. But for painting houses, I consider it a must-have. The only thing I have come across that could use improvement (and it is a bit nit-picky) is that the trigger lock is difficult to operate with the left hand - I am right handed, but sometimes need to use the tool with the left when up on a ladder, etc. I have also seen it cheaper than Amazon's current price ($99) at a local home superstore...

5Great little labor saver
By Jon M. Hager
If you need to remove paint from a house, barn or old garage, buy this thing before you start. It does an excellent job without marring the work surface. Considering the amount of effort it saves (esp. over using a scraper), it's dirt cheap. It's also very durable (I've had mine 7+ years). I only wish their orbital sanders held up this well. With a coarse grit sanding disk you can quickly and easily take an old painted surface down to bare wood. I learned about the tool from a house painter who told me it was invaluable. One warning though, be sure to use the side handle that comes with it. It runs at high speed and if you're using it in only one hand, it can get away from you if the disk gets wedged in a crack or caught between two boards. The bottom line is, unless you really enjoy scraping paint (in which case you're a little weird), you'll want this tool - it's a MAJOR labor saver.

5A handy,versatile tool.
By A Customer
I do alot of metal fabrication and welding, and I recently purchased one of these sanders. It is one of the best purchases I have made.I find myself reching for it more and more in place of my usual grinder. It leaves a much nicer finish than a disc grinder, and it is perfect for dressing welds without having them look like they have been hit with a grinder. It removes material rapidly, and is very good for removing paint prior to welding. I use either 36 or 50 grit discs, and they seem to last very well. This tool is highly recommended.
