5Accessories galore!
By A Customer
If you like tiny, detailed accessories, you'll love this set -- it's practically nothing but accessories with just enough building blocks to hold it all together.

This Lego set impressed both my 10-year-old daughter and me, her discerning mom. She thinks the animals (a whopping five of them here!) are the cutest things ever. I think the best toys are those that "do" more than one thing, and most of these pieces provide multiple possibilities for creative play. Examples: the translucent cylinders can be wands, glow sticks, or test tubes full of colorful potions; the colorful gem-shaped pieces can be decorative stoppers for the bottles or jewels in the treasure chest; the feathery orange-red plume works equally well as a quill pen and as a flame. In addition to being versatile, these pieces are sturdy for many hours of handling. The only flimsy items, the thin vinyl capes, came packaged in their own little cardboard box that prevented crumpling. This little box is actually sized right for small fingers to be able to put the capes back in - for continued storage and protection. Thank you Lego, for thinking ahead!

If you have a Lego fan who also loves Harry Potter, you won't go wrong with this fantastic set. We can't wait to try out the rest in the Harry Potter series.

5A fun set on it's own, or for expanding another set
By Wesley Young
For me, this set was mainly used as a sort of "super-detailing" set for the other Harry Potter sets I own. It is crammed with all kinds of small details, items, animals, and furniture. Lots of potions, bottles, stands, and hats. You can configure minifigs with this set, add bottles to scenes, and all kinds of very, very fun ideas. On it's own, as the set is intended, it completes two very detailed shops, with a cardboard backdrop that provides two solid walls for each shop (complete with good detail on the cardboard itself).

The set also comes with one Hermionie minifig. (Note: She's in casual, non-Hogwarts attire. I found that she looked quite decent in a spare Harry Potter body, legs, and cloak, with her head and hair substituted. Since each set comes with one Harry figure, most people are sure to have such a spare.)

One solid point off for the background being nothing more than a piece of cardboard - kids can easily destroy such a thing in a flat minute. The rest of the kit is solid Lego quality.

5Harry Potter+Legos=Pure Magic
By Sarah
I grew up with Legos, spent countless hours building castles, forest hideaways, and tropical pirate hideouts. I still have all of the original Legos, boxes and instructions; Legos are a timeless creative toy for children of all ages.

When the first Harry Potter book came out a few years ago, I was hooked from the first sentence! I've read all four books a number of times and I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the first Harry Potter movie this November.

When I saw that Lego was coming out with Harry Potter kits I was thrilled! There are eleven kits in all right now, each of which represent an important scene from the first Harry Potter novel, but the neatest one hands down is Hogwarts Castle.

The castle features secret hidden compartments and treasure chests, a spiral staircase that moves, torches, one of the boats that carry students across the lake to Hogwarts, and many of the book's characters in Lego form, including Harry, Hedwig, Ron, Scabbers the rat, Hermione, Dumbledore, Snape, Hagrid, Peeves and Draco Malfoy. The architecture is brilliant; arches, grated windows, stone texturing, a balcony, multiple towers and a large interior. Quite honestly this is the coolest Lego set ever created, period.

It is sure to be a hot seller on many Christmas lists this year, will probably be the "Furby" of 2001, and with good reason. Harry Potter marked a return to kids actually READING, and likewise with Harry Potter Legos kids will have the chance to use their creativity and imaginations building something magical instead of sitting in front of a TV or computer screen. That's an amazing feat in itself in an age of high technology and should be appreciated by parents and teachers!

The new Harry Potter line of Legos features new artistic heights for Lego designers. Some of the kits come with brightly coloured backdrops and props, such as the Hogwarts Classrooms set, Diagon Alley Shops and Gryffindor House, and include details from the books, such as the portrait of the Fat Lady in Gryffindor House. All the kits capture the childhood magic and the unique flavour and subtle humour of the Harry Potter books.

Hogwarts Castle is 682 pieces and is recommended for ages 8-12. Because of the complexity it might be a bit frustrating for younger children, even for us kidults :) But if you're looking for a unique, creative, and absolutely magical gift for that favourite child, this is the one. Whether you're a kid or a kid at heart, Hogwarts Castle has something to offer for everyone.

4Cool, but get the train instead.
By Emma
The set includes almost all the Lego figures - Harry, Hermione, Ron, Draco, Hagrid, Dumbledore and Snape (no Professor Quirrell), plus a knight and a ghost. There are four owls, a crystal ball, a treasure chest, a fire place, books, a telescope, a boat, two golden keys, two grey keys, three jewels, letters (for the owls to deliver, I suppose), two mice and two cute little bats that are part of the building. The rooms it includes are the dining hall (you can choose either the Gryffindor table or the Slytherin table by flipping a banner), the owlery, the library and the hall outside the Gryffindor quarters. It has the fat lady painting for the door, and it spins around. I guess this would lead into the Lego set for the Gryffindor House, if you bought it. Although, then you'd have two fat lady paintings (and two Rons).

What's the verdict? Well, I think it was really expensive, but that's to be expected for Lego. But, it's pretty darn cool. I don't know how they expect kids to play with it, as the rooms are really, really small, the stairs are pretty precarious (they keep spinning around) and the books like to jump off the shelves. In the dining hall, there isn't much space for people to sit. And what's the point of being able to switch to the Slytherin table, if Draco's going to be the only one sitting at it? I don't know, these are things that would have bothered me as a child trying to play with it. Maybe other kids aren't quite as pedantic as I was then. :)

It looks impressive and displays nicely. The Harry figure has a different coloured cape, which looks kind of silly. The Hermione figure is really scary - she has a really weird grin on her face. Draco is really cute, and so is Ron. Dumbledore and Hagrid are cool. I thought Snape's head would glow in the dark, as it really looked like it would, but thankfully it doesn't, as that would make no sense at all. The ghost is not so good - I couldn't even tell it was a ghost; I thought it was a statue.

Would I recommend it? Yes, if you have a lot of money and want something collectible. If you're buying it for a kid, you may be better off with a smaller set - most kids wouldn't have the patience to build this and you'll probably end up doing it for them. It took me three hours, but then, I don't build Lego sets often and I was unfamiliar with a lot of the new pieces as they didn't have them when I was young. There are also a lot of little pieces to lose. I'd recommend the Lego train set or the action figures instead.

5Hogwarts Castle-682 pcs--# 4709
By AJ Mayers
This is the best set of the Lego Harry Potter line. It is also the biggest, and most expensive. It's retail value...is very high, but the experience with this toy is so cool! The set is simple to build in less than 3 hours with the detailed instructions. The set is like a playset with secret passages, moving staircases, a library, the Gryffindor room with the portrait of the Fat Lady, a real mini magnifying glass, Scabbers, owls, The Great Hall, an astronomy tower, and a boat to ride up to school! The sets figures are:

*Harry Potter*Hermione Granger*Ron Weasley*Draco Malfoy*Rubeus Hagrid*Albus Dumbledore*Professor Snape*a ghost(possibly Peeves or Nearly headless Nick. Who knows?)*a Gryffindor knight

This set is really worth those...bucks! This set even won an award for most imaginative toy of the year! Lego has really done it! The towers, turrets, and structure are so cool, that it brings Hogwarts to life! This set is great, and also it is very hard to find since there is an over-growing popularity of Harry Potter! Happy Hunting.

5A great set!
By Homa Woodrum
I've always wanted a lego train, and what a perfect opportunity to get one! In this set you have the engine and one passenger car of the Hogwarts Express, along with a mini station. You have Harry, Hermione, Ron, Hedwig, and Trevor (Neville's toad) along with a holographic chocolate frog card. The engine of the train looks very authentic, allthough I don't see why it needs the mechanism to shoot baggage out of it (especially since no matter how I build it the mechanism never works as pictured in the instructions). With a magnet it attaches to the passenger car where you have just enough room for everyone. It is difficult at first to get everyone seating with their cloaks but if you fold them under the figures should sit with no problems. There is an easy removable top on the passenger car to let you have the figures interact on their trip to Hogwarts. The station is my favorite feature. On one side is platform 9 3/4 and on the other is the wall you must run through. It comes with all sorts of luggage carriers and trolleys as well as a broom, a lamp, and a garbage container. One of the best Harry Potter lego sets, at a nice middle range price. Legos are very durable and educational -- I had one piece missing from this set and I contacted lego.com and they sent it to me at no charge! A great company and a great book/movie tie in.

5So You Wanna Buy This Thing?
By A Customer
I received this set for Christmas and put it together in about 45minutes.The instructions are a little complicated.Every once in a while I look back and realize, "This dosen't belong here," or "That goes there." Still, there is not one day where I don't think,"I'm gonna go downstairs and play with my Legos!" I have set a goal of collecting all of the sets in the Jackstone Lego series and I have almost suceeded. And if you're thinking of buying this product for yourself(you kids out there)or for your kid's good report card(parents)I give you thumbs up!

5Great toy, but beware
By Benson C. Look
I bought this for my four year old. He loves it. It is the right size for his hands. He takes everything apart and rebuilds the pieces into other things. The Police Station is well made. Strong and sturdy.

A few problems. The instructions are not that clear. There is generally one picture of each item, and you follow the picture to put it together. For the station house for example, there are a number of smaller pieces that are placed inside the unit. Hard to tell form the picture.

The jail has a slide up door. Not obvious from the picture. I had to play around with it to get it right. Not big problems, but frustrating for a four year old.

Also note, if you had gotten the Jack Stone video, there is a bank robbery sequence. Well I thought the bad guiys where in this set. That is what my son wanted. It is in another set.

Over all a great gift for the little guys. My six year old just takes the poeople and plays with them.

5This gift has seen a lot of use
By Niqua Roni
My 5-year-old son received the Jack Stone Police Headquarters last Christmas and, 10 months later, he still plays with it on an almost daily basis. Not only does he build and create whatever he wants, once he's completed his project, he shifts right into pretend play. I find contraptions he's made in his bed, in his school knapsack and in every room of the house. He has fun, is proud of his work, and doesn't even know he's developing skills that may help him later in life. Just make sure your child has picked up all the pieces before you vacuum or things can get ugly. Overall, however, I give the Jack Stone set high marks. Go LEGO!

I used this on the new wood set and though it looks very different it does work well. Another thing is my grand sons seem to like it every bit as much as the fancy talking, light up with sounds things I used on the rest of the layout.

4Impressive looks, shoddy construction.
By A Customer
This is a great LOOKING toy. The scale is very impressive, and the Interceptor design has always been one of my favorites with those sinister-looking, dagger-like wings. Put it together and hold it in your hands and it's just - WOW. It's huge and VERY cool.But...The figure is not up to Hasbro's usual standards-the head is VERY wobbly and it's impossible to pose it in place. The neck hole is obviously way too big for the post the head is on (or is the post too small?). The effect is like an old wacky wobbler baseball head doll- you know, wwith the giant head on the spring? I would've prefered to see a decent head attatchment to the bendable knees, which as another reviewer mentioned, doesn't make any difference because the only way to fit him into the cockpit is with his legs strait. Then there's the other problem - the springs that launch the wings. Mine were rusted. VERY rusted-the whole surface was orange with oxidation. Bits of metal flake off every time I attatch or detatch the wings. I suspect that Hasbro had a bunch of left-over parts from the TIE fighter they released a few years back on the cockpit section, and just reused them and rushed it out the door. maybe they thought most buyers were collectors who wouldn't open the box, so they could get away with a few sloppy parts. So it's a great looking toy, but poorly made. I guess when it falls apart I can always just say that Han Solo shot it.

4TIE Interceptor
By Robert D Shofner
A few observations....

This is, overall, a cool toy, but I was let down by a couple of things.

The wings: The vintage wings took decals, the new wings are textured & painted. That part of it is cool, but whereas the vintage wings are nice, hard plastic, the new wings are slightly flexible and don't appear to keep their shape as well as the old ones. The new wings have an added feature of some clear plastic engine looking things on the back, and I'm not sure why-- the picture in the starwars.com database did not have such a feature on the vehicle. IMHO, the "safe" flexible wings detract from the toy. I think I might prefer the old wings, which is a shock to me becasue I was really looking forward to the new ones.

The Cockpit: This one featues a sticker that is different than the old one. The chair doesn't raise out like it did on the old one, but on the otherhand the glass is painted to make it appear that the steel beams supporting the glass are present. The new cockpit doors lock shut, the old ones don't. I think I like the new cockpit better.

The color on the new toy is more accurate, but I kind of like the old dark gray too.

Extra Featues: The old toy has the buzzing light and exploding wings. The new toy has exploding wings. I don't know if I wish I had some sort of light and sound package, but it is disappointing that the space for the sound/light upgrade is present, but the feature is not.

While the unique pilot figure looks basically the same as the old one (the old POTF2 figure, not the vintage), there are some differences. Most disappointing is the fact that the head on MY figure is very loose and seems like it could fall off at a moments notice (I don't know if it is the same with all figs). The legs, however, are very nice. The knees are bendable (they didn't need to be-- the cockpit chair is still flat) and the legs actually stick straight out when the pilot is in a sitting position, hence, the legs aren't pinched when the fig. is placed in the cockpit. I'm really happy with that, but I just wish the head didn't bobble.

I really felt the packaging for this toy was lame.

All in all, I'm please with the toy. I wish the wings were stronger and I wish the figure's head was fastened tighter, but other than that, I can't complain too much. My advice is to pick one up, but don't feel that it is a full replacement for a vintage interceptor.
