5Getting Better All The Time
By Rick Sline
After using the earlier Color Street Pilot for a couple years I was delighted to have the routing and talking features in this unit. I have a fair amount of experience with Lexus' built-in GPS system as well as the Hertz Neverlost system, both of which I consider "permanently mounted". None of these are perfect and the Talking Street Pilot certainly is a great value.

Pros: Adequately accurate, adequately fast (most of the time), turn by turn instructions, audible instructions so you don't have to take your eyes off the road, generally good routing, availability of large memory cartridges so you can keep a number of geographic areas "on line" - you can pick & choose which ones.

Con: This unit seems to have trouble discerning whether it's on the freeway or the service road, especially when first entering the freeway or driving in one of the rightmost lanes after passing a major interchange - I don't recall experiencing this with either of the two permanently mounted units.

General caveats: As with all units, the most direct route is not always reported; interestingly I've had the most trouble on this point with the Lexus GPS. There is a lag time if (or the GPS thinks) you are off course; the Street Pilot seems to take a bit longer on average than the others to recalculate and you could be further off course by the time it finally catches up. The Street Pilot must have a line of sight to at least 3 signals (4+needed for 3 dimensional and more accurate positioning) and may take a while to acquire them. If you're not keeping the unit on the dash, you'll need the separate antenna (it works fine from the inside of the windshield). Performance degrades around tall buildings and disappears in covered parking areas (somehow the Lexus system kept working, I suspect through some inertial sensing devices). All GPS' I've used have occasionally gotten confused on the exact location (sometimes off several blocks, but typically corrected within a minute or two) and occasionally give really bizarre turns - a right turn, u-turn then another right turn when continuing straight would work. Not all streets are present or accurately depicted. I've noticed a couple incidents of the Street Pilot showing a street as cut through when it wasn't. As always, use common sense and good judgment when evaluating information presented by the GPS. The information is loaded from a CD and over time some information becomes obsolete; you might want to update your maps every couple years (or just get a new unit with the then current bells and whistles). And until technology improves another notch or two, your GPS will not know about construction or accidents on your route - a feature that could be available in future units.

As mentioned by others, take time to become familiar with a GPS prior to needing it in an unfamiliar area. Remember safe driving takes precedence over everything else. If you've not used a GPS before, plan on spending at least an hour becoming acquainted with it's features and functionality before trying to use it for actual navigation.

There are several additional benefits of using a GPS in familiar territory: Frequently you have to go between 2 points where you're not sure about the theoretically fastest/shortest way - the GPS can suggest routes and show you on the map. Sometimes there's unexpected traffic or construction, you can quickly determine if side streets look like they'll work - I've avoided driving down "no-outlet" areas many times by a quick look on the GPS. You can look up nearby stores, restaurants, etc.; I've found this especially useful for location Post Offices when I'm in an unfamiliar area.

Anyone who uses these gets hooked; I take mine with me when I need to drive out of town too.

5Great product!
By Helpful Reviewer
For several years, I have envied the owners of high end cars equipped with navigation systems. I considered getting an aftermarket in-dash system, but the price was too steep. The StreetPilot III Deluxe is just what I have been looking for. It is a reliable, well-designed, and just plain fun gadget that will please the electronics junkie and the casual user alike.

The high resolution screen is gorgeous and remains clearly visible even in bright sunlight. At sundown (automatically calculated by the StreetPilot), the display switches to black and white and can still be read easily without distracting the driver. Operation is very easy once you get the hang of it. The 128 MB data card included with the deluxe version can store maps covering a radius of 500+ miles. It should be adequate for almost all trips. Programming the card is fairly easy, although the software is probably the system's weakest link. The interface is poorly designed but functional.

The system's autorouting function works very well, but because it cannot account for traffic volume or terrain, it sometimes underestimates drive time and thus doesn't choose the quickest route. 95% of the time, however, the system chooses the best route, and it has identified new and better directions for several of my most common trips. The vocal prompts are excellent. A sophisticated trip computer is an included feature and is a welcome addition if your car does not have one.

I cannot praise the StreetPilot highly enough. In many ways, I think it is superior to an in-dash system, in terms of price and portability (since you can transfer the device between cars). It is the rare gadget that is both useful and fun. You'll wonder how you ever lived without it.

5Directionally Challenged Rejoice
By Nathaniel C. Moffat
If you have been looking at $2,000 (and up) factory-installed GPS systems, this device will look like a bargain. If, however, you are looking for a hiking-and-biking GPS device, it will seem weirdly expensive. Think of this as an in-vehicle unit that can can be used as a portable if necessary.

Factory-installed units typically feature bigger screens, don't intrude on your personal space, and don't leave a power cable hanging off your dash. However, this device has one huge advantage over them: It can be swapped between cars and taken on trips for use in rental cars. At the low end, there are many cheaper GPS units more suitable for the outdoorsman. This unit is best used an in-vehicle GPS -- its battery drain and weight might be an issue for hikers.

Test-driving this device for the first time on a commute or a trip to the grocery store, the suggested route may seem odd, crossing and then rejoining a street for no apparent reason. But it can also find shortcuts even in familiar areas.

The real value, however, is in driving in unfamiliar territory, where getting lost could cost time, gas, patience, and may even be dangerous. It can find the nearest gas station, restaurant (Italian, fast food, etc.), shopping, airport, hotel, public library, and many other categories of locations.

When I broke down on the side of a highway recently, I used it on battery power to find several service stations (it gives phone numbers) within a few miles. When I called one, I was able to tell them my exact distance from which exit, and direct the tow truck to my disabled car.

It is also valuable on trips when you rent a car. Just remember to download the maps for your destination and surrounding area -- this should take about 5-10 minutes if you're using a USB cable.

A WORD ABOUT SPEEDThis GPS calculate routes less quickly than expensive in-dash systems, which should be no great surprise, given that it can run on batteries and costs less. Unlike a calculator that gives you the right answer in the blink of an eye, this unit is more like a chess computer. It seeks the best route (e.g. fastest time, shortest distance) among perhaps thousands of possible solutions for getting from Point A to point B. Deep Blue took some time to beat the best chess player in the world, but nobody calls it slow.

What does processing time mean for the average driver? Well, if you take a wrong turn or miss a suggested exit, it announces: "Off route; re-calculating." If you do something unexpected a second time or third time while it is number-crunching, it may re-calculate again. At such times, you may become frustrated that it can't "keep up" with the split-second decisions traffic sometimes requires. This can be annoying, but nine times out of ten you'll probably prefer the tradeoff its designers opted for.

The voice prompts are clear and sound more human than robotic. You can adjust the volume, which is helpful especially if you have chatty passengers. These prompts also let you keep your eyes on the road, which is a major safety and convenience advantage over units that don't speak.

The color screen is large and easy to read in all but the brightest direct sunlight. It calculates what time the sun sets and can automatically go into night mode (more black background) so your eyes can adjust to the lower light outside -- a nice touch.

You can zoom in or out on a map to see as much detail as you need, or you can let it pick the zoom level for you. This lets you strike a balance between over-frequent screen refreshing (if you are driving 65 and zoomed way in, for example), and seeing where you are relative to certain highways or exits, which you might want to zoom out a bit to see.

On multi-lane highways, as your exit approaches or lanes divide, it will tell you to keep left or right, which can keep you from getting needlessly into exit-only lanes or from having to cross several lanes.

Lest you think this is a complete rave review, there are a few shortcomings.

Battery life is fair-to-poor, depending mostly on how bright you want the screen. However, if you use the power adapter and use the battery power as backup, this should not be a problem.

You will notice from pictures that there are not many keys cluttering up the front of the device. This was a sound choice from a safety and design standpoint, but it means that you have to flip between screens and scroll to enter addresses, zipping through numbers and letters and entering each -- much the way you might enter your name or initials on an arcade game. It assumes a certain degree of patience and willingness to learn. If your directionally challenged spouse has not yet entered the computer age, this may be more technology than she (or he) is ready for.

BOTTOM LINEBecause of some minor quibbles, I give it 4 1/2 stars, but will round that up to 5 because it offers such good value compared to factory-installed in-dash units. Unless the extra money is a huge issue, or unless you rarely travel far from home, spring for the deluxe version and save the headache of buying additional maps, upgrading memory, etc.

Product Description

The Logitech Cordless Presenter gives you remote control of your onscreen presentation from just about anywhere in the room. You wont have to stand next to your computer or give hand signals to a partner when you need to change slides. And it doubles as a laser pointer and a two-button optical mouse, making it the only device you need to take on the road.

5This device is a presenter's dream!
By Storm Cunningham
The Logitech Cordless Presenter turned out to be far more useful than I realized when I ordered it. I've always had 3 problems with remote controls for my PowerPoint presentations, and this device solved them all:1) Most remotes are finicky to use and have limited range. The clickers are sloppy, and they are infrared, so you have to point at the laptop or projector. The Logitech has a 30 foot range, and is non-directional! What's more, the control response is crisp and precise.2) You can't control your presentation with most remotes, so you have to return to the laptop when something goes wrong. With the Logitech, I can easily backup if I go past the slide I want. Since it shifts from a "presentation device" to a regular optical mouse by flipping a switch, I can put it on any surface and close my presentation and open another without returning to the laptop.3) I don't want to have a laser pointer in one hand and a remote in the other while I talk. This device is both!

It could be a bit smaller, but it's sexy-looking and easy to use. The installation is a breeze, and -- unlike the other reviewer -- I never came across anything confusing in the set-up or the manual. I speak professionally on the restoration economy, so the Logitech Cordless Presenter is a lifesaver for me, and worth every penny.

5The cordless presenter is a very nice product
By A Customer
I've just received my cordless presenter from Amazon, and it seems like a great product. I've got a laptop with Windows 2000, and when I plugged the Bluetooth receiver in the USB port it immediately recognized the new hardware and installed a driver without rebooting. I then turned on the presenter and voila: it worked perfectly. Even several combinations of sleeping my laptop, unplugging the Bluetooth receiver and turning the presenter on and off couldn't fool the hardware: it always worked when it should. That is a minor miracle for Windows, and should not be undervalued. I never had to install the Logitech software, which I view as a good thing.

In terms of the presenter itself, I think the feel of it is pretty good. The laser trigger on the underside is never shown in product pictures, so that was the big unknown in buying it. The trigger is fairly flat, but it is very pressure sensitive. I had hoped for a more substantial resistance, but I don't seem to be setting if off unintentionally. It falls right under my middle finger, with my index finger supporting the front of the presenter so that the trigger is not accidentally depressed.

The laser quality seems good enough, but it is not as good as the laser pointer I have already. The beam is more focused (good), but the intensity is less (bad). I don't think I'll have trouble with it.

When used as an optical mouse, the action is very good. My only complaint in this regard is that it is slightly heavier than I'd like.

All in all, I think this is a very nice device for people that have to make presentations frequently, and worth the money.

4Slick Device, Not Supported on Mac OS X, but It Works
By C. Clifton
This presentation remote fits comfortably in my averaged-sized hands. The control buttons are easily accessible with my thumb. After a bit of practice, using the laser trigger on the underside with my middle finger is also quite comfortable.Logitech does not offer support for the Cordless Presenter on Mac OS X. Like some others here, I initially could not move backward in Keynote presentations, whether in presentation or mouse mode. Installing the Logitech Control Software did not help in my case. The Cordless Presenter does not show up as a supported device. But after an hour or so of experimentation, everything is working. In fact, I have more control over Keynote than Logitech supports by default for Powerpoint. Here's what I did to get the controller to work with Keynote 2:1. Install USB Overdrive.2. Use the USB dongle supplied with the Cordless Presenter instead of your Mac's built-in Bluetooth connection. (This makes the computer think you have a USB mouse instead of a Bluetooth mouse, so USB Overdrive can manage the Cordless Presenter. Once the long awaited Bluetooth version of USB Overdrive is available, this step may not be needed.)3. In USB Overdrive, set up application-specific settings for Keynote (left-hand pane). Make sure you make the following changes only for Keynote and not for Global Settings.4. Configure the left mouse button to send the keystroke "Return". (You'll get a dire warning here, but as long as you have a track pad, its button will work for clicking within Keynote))5. Configure the right mouse button to send the keystroke "[".6. Configure Wheel Up to send the keystroke "+".7. Configure Wheel Down to send the keystroke "-".Now within Keynote you will have to use your trackpad when editing and starting the presentation. But once the presentation is started, you can use the Cordless Presenter (in mouse mode) to move forward and backward through slides. In addition, the up-down arrows on the Cordless Presenter will bring up the slide chooser and let you quickly scroll through your slides--great for answering questions or skipping part of your talk. To leave the slide chooser, just press the left button.I hope someone finds this useful. I gave this product only 4 stars because of the hoops you have to jump through to use it on a Mac. However, the ergonomics and build quality are great. Windows users won't go wrong getting the Cordless Presenter, and adventuresome Mac users should also find it to be a nice addition.

5Great toy!
By A Customer
This set includes INSTRUCTIONS to make a halfpipe that is about 10 to 11 inches long and 4 inches wide, and a mini ramp, and a slide thingy. But you can make dozens of different setups. So if you get bored with one arrangement, you can make another one. I know this sounds corny, but the only limit is your imagination :) It also comes with 3 people, two guys and a girl, 3 skateboards, and three, quote "trick sticks," that you attach to the skaters backs to make tricks easier. Those sticks are unnesesary, but they do help.It also comes with a little boombox and trash can, and "floodlights" that can either be lights or or be taken apart and used to make more ramps and things.Overall, it is a really cool toy. I got it a year ago and I haven't gotton bored with it yet. I'm still figuring out new setups! This thing is worth it for the average price of $15 to $20.

My son received this as a Christmas present from a friend when he was 4 years old. I helped him set it up shortly after he opened it and it has been a favorite since! He absolutely (still) LOVES it and, personally, I love that they included a girl as a boarder! Love the whole ensemble.

5Great buy for the money
By S. Harbaugh
This receiver is a great buy. It sounds great for movies and music. The 192/24 DAC for the left and right channel provide better clarity for music than other receivers in this price range. Most receivers only come with 96/24 DAC. And if you want to send your music to all 5 channels then the Logic 7 dsp sounds great. For movies the receiver has both Dobly digital and DTS, and they both sound great, lots of bass for the special effect scenes and voices are clear. I paired this receiver with the JBL SCS150 home theater speakers and I think they are a great match.

I know people might be turned off by the receiver only having 5 channels but if you have a small apartment or small living room than 5 channels is probably enough. Two tips for receiver shoppers. One, don't pay for features that you won't use. Two, buy by the pound. A heavier receiver usually means that it was made with better components. This recevier comes in at almost 27 pounds. Compare this with other receivers in the price range and I'm sure you won't find many that weigh more.

4Solid Reciever in the midrange to lowrange price
By A Customer
I've had two years of trouble free operations from the AVR 225. It dosen't have all the bells and whistles and the power is lacking for a midsized room. What it has is 2-opital inputs that can handle the X-box and a DVD player. EZ remote that can automatically adjust your speakers to an acceptable surround sound, some minor adjustments can be made later.DTS and 5.1 channel decodeing is all that is necessary for now. Out of the 400 DVD's I own only 10% has DTS and I have only 2 that has 6.1 channel.

4High-End Mid-Range
By Henry P Gregor
I've had this receiver for about 9 months now. Very handsome product, easy to install and set up. The self-surround calibration is a very useful feature and avoids a lot of complex set up know-how. I rate the audio quality as excellent not quite to audio-file standards but most people will be very happy with its capabilities.

A few negatives that are not really serious: the manual should be improved, it is very hard to read and for neophytes will be quite frustrating. The surround processsor modes can only be accessed sequentially so you cannot make A-B choices. Plus there is no phono capability.

I highly recommend this receiver as a low to mid range product with high-end capabilities.

5Exceptional HDTV and Progressive Scan DVD images
By Mike Wazonek
I researched RPTV's for over a year and my decision ended up coming down 2 RPTV's - the Philips 46PP9302 and the Hitachi 45F500, I looked at a number of manufacturers including Sony, JVC, RCA, Panasonic. My decision to go with the Philips was based on the extra video processing enhancments that come with this TV and the "classy" styling of this unit. As far as the picture quality goes both units provide excellent video but the Philips just seemed to provide a more stunning picture on HDTV and DVD progressive scan. The picture adjustments that can be made to tailor the picture to how "you" want it to look are seemingly endless - each input can be adjusted the way you want it. One other notable thing about the philips is the picture with satelitte - This is one of the few TV's with which the satelitte picture looks even good - and when it comes down to HDTV images it is downright amazing. One thing anyone should consider when buying a RPTV is the ability of the TV to provide some sort of screen protection from phosphor aging as I found out from my research there are some Tv's out there that have only lasted 3-4 years before the black bars wear into the screen. I have found that the 4.3 format is what I am using the most to view programming from satelitte so you get the black bars on either side of the screen so the black bar burn in could be a potential problem. The Philips auto format screen sizing is also one of the best available and not many of the RPTV's I looked at even had anything auto period! - you had to use the remote to fill the screen and the resulting picture was quite unporportional. Another deciding factor with purchasing this TV was the dealer I bought it from offerd me an additional 2 years parts and labor warranty as his comment was " We have very few problems with any of the Philips TV's we sell and that's why we offer the extra 2 years" . On the downside , (if any) this television as with most RPTVS is the viewing angle - it is very location sensitive - you need to view it sitting down and not to far off center - I have found that about 8-12 ft out and no more than 3-6 ft off center on either side is about maximum.A highly recommemded HDTV RPTV.

4Incredible Picture
By A Customer
I've had the tv for 2 weeks now and I love the picture quality especially w/HDTV signals. Even the look of the tv is great because it doesn't look like a big square against you wall. I only have two complaints. 1. When watching an hdtv signal you do not have the ability to adjust the screen size (i.e. 16:9). Some hdtv stations broadcast signals on their hdtv channel that are 4:3 ratio. 2. It needs to have at least 2 HD Component inputs instead of one component and one RGB input. It's difficult finding the RGB harness at an affordabe price. This only is a problem if you are planning to watch hdtv (with hdtv receiver) and a progressive scan dvd player. Other then these two issues, this is the best tv for the money. Highly recommend purchasing.

5Outstanding for the price
By Evangelist Ed Hensel
I looked at a lot of different rear projection wide screen tv's and found this to be the best. I opened it up out of the box and it worked great. The horizontal viewing angles are good, however virticaly it is challenaged. The picture changes (dims) if you are standing up. Not bad for the money. It has awesome features and has one of the best picture qualities. I also like the sound. I give it an A+++++++++++++++++

5Looks & works great!
By Mary E. Arnold
I ordered three of these, and when they delivered, all the boxes were damaged on all four corners. Oh no, I thought. But inside the boxes these were carefully packaged, with plastic caps between each shelf on all four corners. Nothing was damaged except the boxes! They were relatively easy to assemble, and it didn't take me long to set up all three. I would recommend these to anyone, for just about any use since they look great too.

3Good for the price, but not heavyweight
By Sean Prigge
I have several units of these black 72inch 5-tier shelves which I purchased a few years ago and I recently bought two new unit to expand my storage capacity. The new units (#21856) are stamped with the same logo (Sensible Storage) as my old units, but they differ quite a bit in the construction of the shelves (the posts look the same). The shelves are constructed with narrower gauge steel and they give quite a bit when I step on them, unlike my old units. In retrospect, I noticed that these shelves claim to hold 350lb per shelf whereas my old unit was rated for 800lbs. I thought I would point this out to anyone expecting a heavy-duty unit. These shelves are fine for less demaning loads.

5I'd give it 10 stars !!!!!! GREAT MACHINE
By R. van der Bol-Costa
If you work with rebar up to #5 grade 60 this is a great tool.I work with tons of rebar on every job.The price is definetly worth it.pays for itself in labor.....quickly.Cuts quick and does precise preset or custom bends.has no problem doing #5.Well egineered and a joy to use.easy to carry around.HITACHI really thought this one out.I can't see anything that would make it better.

5My Wife is Excited About This Tool
By Randall R. Anderson
The VB16Y is a remarkable tool. I'm building my own home and there are few significant tasks I can get a 5 ft. tall 105 lb. wife to do. But with the VB16Y I can set up an assembly line and my wife now cuts and bends rebar. It's really that simple. The tool is light enough (around 45 lb.) I can bring it down to the job site. It's bends are repeatable and the tool is remarkably rugged. I bought mine used for our construction but if you are in the business you need this tool and I wouldn't be scared off by the price.
