5Hitting a home run!
By J. Sasao
The bucket of balls arrived very fast and in great shape. The balls were of good quality and averaged out to a little over $2/ea. A good quality product for a great price!

5Just what the parent or coach ordered!
By gr8daddyo
Rawlings has made batting practice balls affordable for parents and coaches a like. As you well may know if you want to save money on baseballs in bulk, you must purchase synthetic covered baseballs. These leather covered balls are great for batting practice or a game of catch, and unlike the less expensive synthetic cover counter balls, these balls, which have slight blems, will last 10 times longer, and are as close to game balls as you are going to get with out spending an arm and a leg.

4good buy

The balls are not perfect but the blemishes are a distant memory after we've used them all summer. I am glad I didn't pay full price for balls we use for practice.

  • The game features players putting numbered bidding chips face-down onto the board sequentially.

Product Description

The game features players putting numbered bidding chips face-down onto the board sequentially. After the players have placed all of their chips, then each of the areas is resolved. The bottom part of the board is where players attempt to gather treasure tokens, which is the overall currency of the game. The middle part of the board features a number of special actions, which help the players cast spells, trade in their resource tokens, or block other players' actions. The top part of the board is where players use treasure tokens to purchase artifacts, and the player who can collect the most artifacts by the end of the game will be the victor. Won Games Magazine Game of the Year award in 2001.

5Quality components, good gameplay
By J. C. Ford
This game is basically a game of abstract tactical choices in an "Aladdin's Lamp" setting. Players each control 8 henchmen with power ratings of 1-9 (there is no 3), which they take turns deploying around various areas of the board: treasure collection areas (dragon caves), a magic spell collection area, a few special-purpose areas, for example one that determines the overall tie-breaking order in the game, and most importantly a series of royal chambers where special artifacts needed to win the game can be obtained for treasures. The gameboard is especially nice, with heavy construction and good artwork.Although the overall gameplay is simple and easy to learn (as with almost any really good game), there is considerable depth as well. Forces are deployed face-down and add up, allowing for bluffs -- a two-person force might actually be a 1 and 2 (total strength 3), or it might amount to as much as 17, and the fact that forces are deployed in a round-robin fashion makes it necessary to adapt plans to others' moves. Spells and the special royal artifacts players collect can also allow for a few surprises: for example, the magic carpet flies in your missing #3 henchman, and a spell might render all or some tokens powerless. Also, in a clever twist the acquisition of artifacts uses a bidding-like process, where the biggest force on an artifact room gets the artifact, but only if the player can pay treasures equal to his force -- if not, it becomes available to the next-higher force, and so on. The winner of the game is determined by who collects the most artifacts.

5Great game!
By C. Starkey
This is a great game for those who like strategy. It is easy to learn but you don't get bored with it because your strategic abilities grow each time you play it. My husband and I play together, and one of us will come up with a great strategy one time, but then it doesn't work the next time because the other person knows the strategy. This game is different than any of the other games that we have (and we have many, many games).I think the age recommendation (12) is good for really excelling at the game, but know many 8 to 10 year olds who would enjoy it (if they like strategy games) and be able to understand the goals of the game. We play with 2 players, and have played the main game and the first of the expansions so far. I am sure the it would be also very fun (and probably more challenging/ intricate) to play with more people, but usually it is just the two of us available, so we appreciate finding good 2-person games.

5One of my favorite games
By Jonathan L. Schindler
El Grande is a little bit of everything thrown into one game. There's the deception involved with secret choices. The balance of forsaking some territories in favor of others. The bidding and bluffing for turn order. Knowing when to sacrifice and when to go all in. In a word, El Grande is FANTASTIC.El Grande is okay with two or three players, but it really hits its stride with four or five. The game takes 60-90 minutes to play, but everyone participates the whole time, and I never realize how long it has taken because it feels like it moves quickly. This game is one of my favorites because it's easy to teach, highly interactive, and overall just a blast to play. Don't let the ugly box art fool you: this game is great. I highly recommend it.

this is one of the few games that I played where you have to actively think from every other player's point of view. when your assumption is wrong, you know you learned something and you can learn something every game.

5Great Little Player
By Alex
This player is very good. I had already bought a mp3/cd player, and so i just leave that at home, and when i go, i take this one with me. The dimensions are 4*4*1.25, but it feels a lot smaller than that. If you are thinking of buying a minidisc, mp3, or jukebox player, i would have to say get this one instead. At 128kbs, you can have 180 minutes of musice, and at 64kbs(for people with no taste) you can have 360 minutes, or 6 hours. You can usualy fit 3 cd's, sometimes four on 1 Cd. I just put all my cd's from 1 band on one cd. It is better than minidisc because it plays in all computers with a cd drive, and it is better than a jukebox because it weighs less and a bit smaller, and better than an mp3 player because it holds more. The remote is great, and the folder/file system works well too. it has 6 preset eq's and it will read the CD then stop spinning. It has a hold on the remote and the player so you can just hold the player, stick it in your pocket, and still control it with the remote. Headphones are good, and opposed to what some say, the remotes stays in the jack. And it has a line out. Also, the 3v dc works with the rechargeble batteries, so when you plug it in, the batteries recharge...

4PM-1 Owner Update
By A Customer
I've had this thing about a month now and I thought I'd update my original review "A versatile player at a very reasonable price."

It works fine with any mp3 file formats I've thrown at it including high bit rate CBR and VBR files. Reads ID3v1 tags flawlessly and deals with long filenames well. Too bad subdirectories/folders are just referred to by number as opposed to their names.

Shock protection is excellent, used it snowboarding without a single skip and batteries lasted just over 4 hours. I was initially worried that the long cord to the remote combined with the long cord from the remote to the headphone would be a royal pain but it acutally came in handy. I was able to put the PM-1 in the inside breast pocket of my Burton jacket, route the remote down my left sleeve and clip it to the inside of my wrist and route the headphone wire back up the sleeve and out the collar to my head. This left the remote well protected and warm (good thing b/c the cold temp will make the LCD display very sluggish and appear faded, wonder what the freezing temp of the LCD is?) yet still workable through my sleeve's fabric w/o taking off my gloves. Need to modify my jacket to have a transparent window and clip on pocket inside it for the remote for full functionality!

The "hiss" you hear when this thing is on is still a bit annoying but isn't noticable at all if you are in anything but a completely silent environment or active at all once the music gets going. Not exactly "Hi-Fi" but what the heck, we are talking about playing MP3's after all, not DVD-Audio or SACD's.

4Powerful Miniature
By Dogville
Don't be fooled by this mini-CD player's small build and lack of aesthetics. It actually packs a whole deal of punch. It recognizes MP3 CDRs and CDRWs quickly and plays well with the antishock working to its fullest. In most cases, the player loads the song into memory and stops spinning after a while minimising the possibility of skips. Sound reproduction is good especially when a good pair of earphones or buds are used. It's very light even with the 2 AAA batteries. The preset equalizers dun do much cos the Normal mode is all you ever wanted. Its fully functional remote comes with a 2-line LCD which though small packs a lot of info, from artist name, song title, and yes even album title to track/directory numbers and time elapsed. Also includes the various random, programmable modes etc. There's also a useful file or directory skip that makes searching easier.

Now some of the downsides. There's no screen on the player itself, the remote LCD isn't backlit, which means u can't see anything in the dark. The plastic casing's a little flimsy and a metal body could take care of that as well as reduce the thickness a little. The rechareable batteries are a good concept but they just arent powerful and you dunno when they are ready from charging cos there's no indication. Oh ya, there's no resume function to continue from where you last hit stop. And lastly, mebbe a more attractive exterior using Compaq'a colored-cover concept from Presario would be cool!

But for a low price, the player's a star. And mini CdR/RWs are so [inexpensive], you can pack about 35-40 songs on one. There's nothing to complain for this price.

5Buy this
By A Customer
The best feature of this pan is how uniformly it really does cook. There wasn't a single hot-spot, unlike many of the other different brands of stainless pans I have used.

Because I am interested in prolonging the lifespan of this pan, and since it is a large size to be squeezing into most dishwashers, I had already planned in advance to hand-wash, despite my aprehension about that being a difficult process. I now know that there was no reason to be aprehensive. This is a pan I frequently use and it cleans up easily whether it contained Spanish rice, eggs, or a cheese-topped casserole.

Also, unlike a similar pan I have from the hard-anodized line, the glass lid is quite handy for monitoring without letting out the steam. Plus, the lid seals extremely well. I had to alter the amount of water I used in a couple of my recipes because this kept the steam in so much more effectively than my old pan that I was left with extra water in this one!

5very versatile pan
By Terry R. Nye
I wanted a stainless steel pan to replace the various brands of coated non-stick skillets I own that seem to scratch and lose their non-stick properties over time despite meticulous care. The Calphalon 12-inch everday pan meets that need and more.Admittedly, before purchase I was skeptical about the non-stick claims made about this pan. If one follows the manufacturer recommendations to preheat the pan before adding food to it, I find that most foods do not stick. Some foods (mainly meats) stick a little, but they clean off readily with soapy water and a soft-scrub sponge. A new-like shine can be maintained with Barkeeper's Friend. If you simply want a skillet, there are many other pans that would work quite well, but what sets this pan apart from those skillets is the high-dome glass lid and short side handles that make it a great brazier. You can prepare tender, thick pork chops that will cut with a fork by putting them in this pan with about 1/2" of water in the bottom, covering with the lid, and baking them in the oven at 325 degrees for a couple of hours. And the pan will come clean easily. The glass domed lid retains moisture in the pan very well, which keeps foods moist and tender during the cooking process. For those who like to fry foods, this pan is a great choice. Unlike coated non-stick pans and skillets, you can cook with as much heat as you want without worrying about damaging the pan. The pan and lid are rated to handle up to 450 degrees. The size of this pan can be a plus or a minus depending upon the amount of food you want to cook. The 10-inch version of this pan, which sells for about $20 less, would probably be sufficient for one or two people cooking small meals. Even though there are only two in our household I find myself using this 12-inch pan, however, instead of a 10-inch skillet because I can cook without worrying about food spilling over and/or make enough for leftovers. It is also a handy size for cooking small roasts with the lid on or off.The pan has nicely tapered edges that make for dripless pouring of liquids from the pan. I use oven mitts to hold the glass lid slightly ajar against the pan to strain liquids. The weight of the lid makes this a little awkward, but it is made easier with the two side handles. A lightweight aluminum splatter cover might work better for this, but I tend to minimize the number of items that I care to wash after cooking by using the lid instead. One handy feature of this pan which is also a negative is the short side handles. They are wonderful for baking things in the oven, and a pan this size would be heavy and awkward to lift with a single long handle (I own a 12-inch non-stick skillet with a handle, and it is very heavy and takes great strength to hold a lid against it to drain off liquids). The downside, though, is the short handles get quite hot with cooking heat above a simmer making usage of potholders or oven mitts a necessity for safe handling. If Calphalon would create handles that could remain cool during cooking, this pan would be perfect. If you enjoy cooking, want a versatile pan that can be used equally well on the range or in the oven, want relatively non-stick cooking without the hassles of coated non-stick cookware, and want it to last forever, you will be very happy with the Calphalon 12-inch everday pan. I know I am.

5Stainless is better than nonstick - Calphalon is best value!
By Bargain Hunter
I purchased a custom collection of Calphalon tri ply pieces in the past six months, starting with smaller pans and working my way up. I am so IN LOVE with them. This everyday pan is a workhorse and you simply cannot beat the ease of cleaning. Once you get used to it, cleaning the stainless (versus nonstick) is just as easy - and better because it is dishwasher safe. Stainless versus nonstick is now my preference virtually all of the time. For skillet chicken, this is the absolute best you can do for a perfectly browned end result. I have one piece of All-Clad and I can tell you honestly that I PREFER the Calphalon tri ply to it - though ALL Clad is definitely exceptional. You will not regret this purchase.

5Another great addition!
By Senor Zoidbergo
Slowly but surely, I'm accumulating all the pieces to my Tri-Ply collection. This pot has some redundancy, as it's very similar to my 3-1/2-Quart Saucepan, but the main difference is that the sides are a bit sloped. Thus, I can use it for other applications, such as stir-frying and casseroles. Moreover, this size is a very handy size to have. One further note- there is a feature I like about the Tri-ply line, in that the lids collect the moisture during cooking, accumulates this on the lid, and deposits back into my food. This really helps to re-moisturize my food, and in general, make everything taste better! What I can't believe is someone down below comparing the Tri-Ply line to Simply Stainless. That's like comparing BMW to Chevrolet. SS does not come with a lifetime warranty, and is NOT tri ply all around, it just has an aluminum core. Pay more for quality cookware.A note about cleaning- after extended use, there will be tarnishing and brown blemishes (at least on my gas range). To get rid of these, do NOT use Bon Ami because it's too gentle- doesn't get rid of stains. Best way to go is Barkeeper's Friend, about $2.50 at your local supermarket, or Cameo Stainless Steel Cleaner. However, Cameo is more abrasive than Barkeeper's Friend, and WILL reduce the mirror polish of these pans. Barkeeper's is the way to go- remember to ALWAYS rub in a circular manner- back and forth will scratch the surfaces.** 2nd EDIT **I've had these pots and pans for 1.5 years now, and have steadily added to my tri ply collection. I'm still very pleased with them.- They have still retained their mirror finish on the exterior.- Cleanup is a breeze- just rub a bit of barkeeper's friend (I'd like to shake the hand of whoever invented that- best thing since sliced bread).- The moisture channeling from the lids is very much appreciated- everything I cook is definitely juicier.- I was amazed at the quality of material- I boiled some eggs in a pot one day, and 14 hours later, I kid you not, the water was still warm, not lukewarm, but warm! The biggest complaint I have about the pots, and the sole complaint that I can think of, is that the handles on the lids do get a bit hot when cooking. Just do yourself a favor and grab a pot-holder when cooking.Otherwise, I'm still very satisfied with them!

5I love this pan!
By Gilda
I have this pan and love it so much I just ordered the 4-1/2 quart version. I use my Calphalon Tri-Ply pots and pans daily and love them as much if not more than my All Clad stainless. The lids fit snugly and that is terribly important when I make rice and steam veggies. My All Clad can't make the same claim and they cost a bunch more as we all know. They don't stick and clean up in a cinch, their weight, balance and design is superb as well. Give this line a try, start with one of their "try me" collector's pans, you won't regret it!

5A Great Pot at a Great Price
By A Customer
Compared with the prices of other pieces in the collection, this pot is a steal! It cooks evenly, and cleans easily. What more can you ask for? I traded in my old Revere copper bottom set for Tri-ply and love it. Even the more expensive pieces are definately worth the price.
