5Worth its weight in gold.
By edsofish
Hello to all, I just purchased the PLS2 and have used it already to level multiple shelving units, install shelving, plumb up studs for nailing, mark for installing pipe in stud walls, install electrical boxes and switches, and figure pitch for a sewer line. The sewer line pitch was done in the fixed position. I figured the amount of pitch for the run, put the PLS2 on its mount and put the magnets on a piece of metal, lined up the two pitch marks and started to dig. As long as the measurement was the same, all was well. No more fiddeling with the level. No more trying to hold the level in one hand, hold the piece of lumber, get the screw or nail gun, all the time trying to maintain plumb or level, and finally fasten. Now I have an extra hand. Just set up the PLS2 and you can instantly see if you are on or not. You have both hands to fasten. In very bright sunshine the line is difficult to see, but, not impossable. The unit is very sturdy and stable. The unit comes with a leather holster, from Occidental Leather, and the magnetic "L" bracket for holding the unit on any metal piece. There are two small holes for mounting the bracket to wood or other non-metallic surface. The holster is set up for wearing on your belt, if you desire, and there is a large snap to keep everything in its place. On the holsters lid there are two metal buttons that hold the "L" bracket neatly. I believe the screw size on the unit is 1/4 x 20. I would highly recommend the PLS2 to anyone that uses a level or straight line with any kind of regularity. Further I would say that the usfullness of the actual line is more than the advertised 30'. With the right lighting conditions I could see usefullness in the 50 - 60ft. range or more. I will let you know. I also have the PLS5 and use it on occasion, but, the new PLS2 will be taking the 5's place for many applications including the many new applications that I will use it for. More to come.-ED

5If you can afford the price tag, an indispensable tool
By Dr. Stuart Cheshire
If you're reading this, you probably already know what the PLS2 does - it projects a self-leveling horizontal line, and a plumb vertical line, on a wall up to 30 feet away. For me it is an indispensable time saver when putting up shelving around the house and garage. Certainly, you can do this by using an old-fashioned spirit level and drawing pencil lines on the wall, but doing it that way takes much more time, and when you are finished, are you really sure you got it perfectly level? Using a laser cross is easier and quicker, and leaves little room for doubt - when you see the shelf perfectly line up with the horizontal red laser line, that's pretty clear visual feedback that you didn't slip somewhere and mess it up with some silly mistake.

If you're looking for a laser level, be sure to get one that projects a line on the wall like this, not just a dot.

5Replaces many tools
By Ken Iisaka
After getting buying this tool for my bathroom remodelling project, I've found it to be absolutely indispensable. It replaces numerous tools: plumb line, chalk line, levels, etc, costing well over the cost of this tool. The accurate self-levelling feature makes the work much quicker, as you do not have to wait for the plumb to settle, or make pencil marks. Also, the accuracy is far greater than with traditional tools.

Now, all the pictures hanging on the wall are perfectly level, too. Now, I have to raise one side of the house by 1/4" to make everything square...

4A short review.
By A Customer
This is an excellent player for the price -- Sony is finally competing with the Chinese products like Apex, and with a better product. For the record, versions of this player sold in Asia do indeed play SVCD. However, since SVCD has roughly half the playback time of VCDs, most movies on SVCD span three or more discs, and who wants to get up to switch discs two or more times?

This player, as advertised, plays everything it claims. Picture quality on pressed VCDs is excellent. What looked murky on my Daewoo player looks like VHS quality on this Sony. In addition to playing DVD-R (Apple brand) and DVD-RW (Sony brand) flawlessly, MP3 playback from CD-R/W is impressive. The sound, even on 128kbps encoded files, is clear and distinct. The player displays long filenames (not ID3 tags), so if you name your song files properly, the player displays them onscreen and in a pleasing, easy-to-read font. I noted it even plays variable bitrate MP3's up to 384kbps.

In addition to the standard formats of audio CD/VideoCD/MP3 CD/DVD/DVD-R/DVD-RW playback, I found this player is capable of playing back "XVCD," a VideoCD whose video bitrate is outside of spec. The maximum bitrate I tested was 1.7Mbps, and the disc played flawlessly (note: the standard VCD bitrate is 1.15Mbps).

This player was an Amazon impulse buy ... and I'm quite pleased with this purchase.

I would have given the player 5 stars, but it doesn't have the ability to play more than 200 songs on an MP3 disc.

5The Perfect Player!
By Kevin
It has been over a year now since I have this player and no problems. I play it every day DVD's & CD's. The size is the coolest thing about it. Forget about those VCR sized DVD players because the more elactronics a player has, it is more likely to break. I couldn't ask for a better DVD player than the SONY PSYC. #1 player out there and I have owned a few high dollar DVD players in the past in which all have skipped and paused during playback.

5Chic, Sleek and Functional
By C. L. Schoon
Why buy a plain silver box when you can have this little item? Just get used to the phrase: "*That's* your DVD player?!"The functionality is just right for someone who isn't planning their living room around a gigantic home theatre. It plays DVDs and it plays them well. The CD player function is also good for people like me who don't necessarily have the space for a stereo as well as an AV setup. The slideshow feature for photo CDs has come in handy, too.I have yet to run into the problem some people have had with SVCDs, but then again, this is not really an advanced machine. It does what it does, and it does it well. I rate it high because for someone like me, limited on space and with no need for supertechnology from my DVD player, it's perfect.

5So far, in early 2001, best of breed. The one to get.
By Old geek
This eXpanium is the best, I think, of the MP3/CD players. It does not display text, but does a CD player? And I am not personally interested in short, one line text displays like the Rio Volt anyway. When they come out with a text SCREEN like display that displays multiple lines of data, so you can search through folders, then I will upgrade.

The eXpanium worked flawlessly out the box. Other's I have tried did NOT, and were returned. I kept the eXpanium! I think it is very reliable. It has never failed to read any brand of CDR. It does read CDRW, but I have never tried one. And it won't skip! Even in MP3 mode! The ESP skip protection is switchable for CD, but always on in MP3.

Strong Points: No skipping. Good battery life. Handles folders well (some brands don't). Has good bass boost. HAS A RESUME FEATURE!!! With RESUME turned on, it will remember the last track played, even if you remove CD or the batteries go dead! Love that feature! Good feature, if you have 150 songs on a CDR, and the battery dies at #75, and you were not watching what track you were playing! The RESUME switch has three positions: OFF/RESUME/HOLD. HOLD turns off buttons, you don't inadvertantly press one. You can program it easily. You can scan through tracks or folders easily. Has LINE OUT connection. Analog/dial type volume control. Has many modes, like repeat and shuffle. Comes with AC adapter, DC CAR adapter, cassette deck adapter. Sound quality is very good. Better than my other CD players (portables). Good quality construction. Good manual (some players come with manuals that look like photocopies). AND THE WARRANTY IS A ONE YEAR EXCHANGE, NOT FIX WARRANTY. The warranty says they will REPLACE the unit if it has a problem the first year, and take it to dealer or Philips. How many portable electronics items do you know that do that?????

Ok, now the downsides......

Display is dim, and basically, slightly yech. Hard to see in dimmer light, or if you have eye problems. The output power to the headphones (volume) is not impressive. It is barely adequate..I use max volume or near to it sometimes. So if you want to destroy your hearing with loud volumes, this may be a limitation. The battery compartment cover is a very tight fit over the batteries, and sometimes you have to work it a bit to snap completely shut. It will "fast forward" within a track in CD mode, but NOT in MP3 mode. If you press the ">>"/fast-forward button while playing an MP3 CD, and hold it down, it will just jump folders.

Out of curiosity, I connected the eXpanium to my $6000 stereo via the LINE OUT of the unit. I did not expect glorious sound better than my home components! I wanted to see if the sound was "nasty", like some devices that use audio compression are, especially at low bit rates. The lower the bit rate, the smaller the mp3 file, and more you can fit on a CD or MP3 device. But the lower the bitrate, the worse the sound, and it can be nasty in some cases. I use freeware CDex encoder/ripper program, with the "LAME" (yeah, that's the name) encoder option, set to 256 kbps. Sounds fine on my stereo. No nasties at all. 192kbps was also great for my classical music. Very good for what the eXpanium is. For rock and roll and many other types of music you can do fine at 128kbps, or in some cases as low as 80kbps. You can really store a LOT of songs on a CD with the low bit rates. At 256kbps I can get about 6 albums on a MP3/CD disc.

In summary. I love the eXpanium. The only other contender for me was the RIO VOLT. I had my reasons why I chose the eXpanium, even though they are about the same price. I am 51 and have been an audio enthusiast for many years, and do have a background in electronics. My choice, the Philips.

4Tricks for MP3 file names
By Pascal Fouqué
I enjoy the Expanium, but was a bit disappointed because some of my MP3 CDs contain more than 100 titles and the Expanium only reads 20 or so. It took me some time to discover why, so I share these tricks which I never found anywhere:

- only the first 30 characters are read and must contain ".mp3". This means that longer names are ignored. Directories with only long names do not appear in the album count.

- as far as I have seen, you can use any character in the names, but only one dot, the one preceding mp3. Songs with more than one dot in the name are ignored.

- songs are played in alphabetical order, without making a difference between uppercase and lowercase. Put the track number first if you wish to follow the original disc order.

- directories are read first, then level 1 sub-directories, then level 2, ... So, if you have 5 directories and 2 sub-directories in the first directory, these will appear as albums 6 and 7: not very practical! Songs outside directories are counted as an album: a CD without directory has AL00 only; a CD with songs outside any directory, plus 5 directories will have AL01 to AL06.

Follow these rules when burning your CDs, and you will not lose any song!

4EXACTLY What I Was Looking For !
By Robert Gatchel
As an AVID music lover who travels a LOT, this unit is EXACTLY what I wanted. I have SEVERAL GIGABYTES of MP3 music and want to travel with it all , and the traditional "memory type" of device just was NOT big enough for what I needed, and if I did get one of them that was big in memory, well ... it was also very big in price.

I had ORIGINALLY seen the Kangaru MP3 CD player in a computer magazine, bought it and was TOTALLY disappointed - skipped like CRAZY even if you just breathed on it (seriously). BUT I later saw THIS unit in an ad and went out and bought it without hesitation and high hopes, and have NOT BEEN DISAPPOINTED. This unit is AWESOME!

PRO'S

(1) Put close to 170 songs on a CD-R / CD-RW for HOURS of play on CHEAP media. I could take my whole music collection with me on just three disks!

(2) I have NEVER EVER HAD THE UNIT SKIP! I have shaken the heck out of it while playing and NEVER had it skip. Although when the battery was dying (after about 8 hours of play mind you) the music started to "skip and scratch" ... understandable when the battery is dying

(3) GREAT FOR CAR TRIPS! The car adapter kit works flawlessly

CONS

(1) EARBUD EARPHONES - OUCH ! They just do NOT fit my ear. Got some good Sony earphones

(2) DISPLAY IS HARD TO READ - ID3 tag is not a big issue with me, nor is a backlight (that eats up batteries big time). But the LCD display is small and a little hard to read in daylight and impossible at night .

(3) SEARCH FF/REW - would be nice if you could FF / REW through a track without having to start over again, but I can live with it.

SUGGESTION:

A "different" car kit. I often rent cars and some of them have CD players in them but NO CASSETTE PLAYER ... thus rendering the cassette adapter car kit useless. I would recommend that if you are like me you obtain one of the adapters that transmit the signal to a "blank band" of your FM band on the radio. I was SOO bummed on a long trip with a NEW car with NO CASSETTE DECK to plug my adapter.

OVERALL:

THE BEST DARNED UNIT OF ITS TYPE ON THE MARKET - PERIOD!

5Amazing stereo will change the way you listen to music
By A Customer
I purchased this stereo in December 2002. This is absolutely one of the best electronics buys I have made in while. On the pro side: The system was easy to install and delivered instant results without the need for a lot of technical adjustments. I have mine connected via Cat 5 cable. I primarily use this system for playing streaming audio music (vs. MP3's from my PC). The quality of the sound is excellent - CD quality. Philips provides a service they call Streamium. You can get a fairly robust set of stations with this service at no extra charge. Alternatively, if you want to create your own custom stations you will need to subscribe to a service like MusicMatch. This is what I have done. This service is fantastic. You can create virtually any combination of artists that you want as many as you want and change it whenever you want. The ease of use for the system is worth the price alone. This is a true network appliance. You do not need to be connected to a PC to operate this system. You can just walk up to the unit, turn it on, and select one of your favorite custom radio stations - it's that easy. I have had many friends over who have gone out and purchased the same unit once they've seen it in action. On the con side: Occasionally, the system drops a station - this is rare and easy to correct simply by repushing the connect button. Also, I wish the unit had a digital audio interface for connecting to higher end stereo equipment. It does have a full complement of RCA jacks which actually work pretty well for that purpose. There is a wireless version of this system which you might consider. It wasn't available when I purchased my system. The system is sized for a den type setting. It would be great if they offered a higher end version or a version that you set along side your main sound system. All in all this is truly an amazing stereo. It has changed the way I listen to music. I highly recommend it!!

5System that talks the talk and walks the walk...
By Stephen C. Petzold
The MCI-200 Streamium was given to me as a Christmas present. I plugged it in, attached speakers (easy), and connected the ethernet caple to my router. WALAH! It worked! I was instantly listening to my favorite mp3 internet radio stations. Doesn't display track 1 track 2 track 3 for your CDs but actually goes through an online service to get track titles. GREAT customer support. Only con is that the AM antenna is really short.

Do not expect this product to work with any D-Link ethernet device, e.g. router, switch, ethernet to wireless bridge. Also don't expect any type of tech support. The people you end up talking to expect an education from you.

If you want to stream mp3's from your PC, this product only works with an old version of MusicMatch Jukebox v7.2 MusicMatch in general is very unstable and I for one cannot get it work at all in Windows XP. It does work though when I log in as Administrator.

If you have a lot of time on your hands to try and get this stereo working properly go ahead and give it a try.

4Forget 60 hours you can get well over 100 for less $$
By G. Brown
I started out about a year or so ago with a 14 hour Tivo unit and LOVED it. The problem was they lie about capacity... sort of. 14 hours or in the case of the 30 hour unit are really more like 6 hours and 11 hours with the recorder set to record at BEST quality... anything lower and the picture looks bad. I then paid Tivo to send me a new unit that had been upgraded to 3 hours.... Then that was still not enough time with the system set at best quality.

I finally found out I could upgrade the thing myself... so my recomendation is to get the cheapest on that you can and upgrade it. This VOIDS you tivo warrenty but hey we all like to live on the edge right :)

I now have a 117 hour Tivo because the company I used to upgrade my Tivo (http://www.digitalrecorder.tv/) added an 80GB disk and now instead of having to delete my recordings early or being more picky about what I record I can go nuts and record anything and everything. I even saw on one website (http://pvrhack.sonnik.com/tivo/tivoking.htm) a guy who has a 151+ hour Tivo.

Another good website for Tivo upgrade information is http://www.9thtee.com/tivoupgrades.htm. They have parts for sale and directions on how to upgrade your Tivo (The easiest is a 14 hour unit since you just add a "blessed" drive)

happy Tivoing and hack away!

PS If you can't tell I love this thing!

4Great when it works, but I've had issues
By Serious
This device has completely changed the way I watch television. Now, whenever I feel like watching TV, I have dozens of my favorite shows ready and waiting, plus occasional new shows TiVo has recommended to me. I never watch live TV anymore unless I want to check the weather or news. No more channel surfing.

That being said, I have been given 3 defective units. The first unit shipped to me would not boot up. I returned this to Amazon (very nice returns process, btw) for a new unit. After 2 months, the tuner on the new unit failed. This one was returned to TiVo, who shipped me a new unit. This third unit had the incorrect software installed on it (the 30-hour-unit software). TiVo tech support helped me correct this issue by having the unit dial in and download the correct software version. So far, there haven't been any problems since then.

On the plus side of all the problems I've had, I can say that TiVo's customer support is excellent, and a pleasure to deal with. I just wish their Quality Assurance was as good.

Even with all the problems, I have still recommended TiVo to my friends and co-workers, and I will continue to do so.

5I couldn't live without my Tivo.
By E. M. Busalacchi
It's impossible to put into words what TiVo will do for you. To most it seems like a glorified VCR. However, only until you spend some time with TiVo you will truly begin to see how incredibly convenient the product really is. I don't watch any more TV than I used to, I am just better at it. :) Now I really do watch what I want, when I want.

I bought the 14 hour Phillips unit when it first came out and recently performed a "custom upgrade" to 60 hours. The unit has been running flawlessly for well over a year now and I have had no problems. I'm currently running TiVo with a AT&T Digital Cable and a Motorola Cablebox without any compatibility problems (I'm not sure what the other reviewer was doing wrong).

Recently the TiVo operating system was upgraded to Version 2.0.1. This new version addresses the problem of a Season Pass taping shows you don't want and adds many nice features that TiVo users have suggested (keyword search, future program notification, season pass manager, etc).

I'm a TiVo believer.. great product, incredible convenience, can't recommend it enough!

4What do you want in a Guitar?
By Sailoil
When you approach the purchase of a musical instrument you can face a real minefield of decisions. You can pay a lot of money for a real quality instrument, but if you can't play it - then the money is wasted. You must buy the instrument that suits the kind of music you want to play. This is especially true with Guitars. Broadly you can have classical, spanish, folk, acoustic, steel and electric guitars (but there are lots of in-between categories)This is a classical guitar. So what does that mean, and what should you be looking for?First off, it has the strings set widely apart, since a classical guitar is designed to be plucked, not strummed. Wide spacing between the strings allows you to get your fingers into the strings to pluck them.Secondly : The fretboard is flat, and this means you need to reach further with your fingers to cover all the strings. If you have a small hand, or are buying a guitar for a child, this could present difficulties. Folk (acoustic) guitars have slightly curved fretboards.Thirdly, this is a guitar designed to take soft strings of nylon or gut. Metal strings could damage a classical guitar, cutting into the wood and overstraining the neck. The soft strings give the guitar a full, but soft and gentle tone. It is not designed for playing heavy metal. It is a guitar for a small room, not for a stadium.Probably the most important elements you want in your guitar are that it be easy to tune and has a good action. Yamaha have a great reputation for quality and consistency, which is why you can think of buying one of their guitars without playing it. You can pretty much guarantee that the tuning keys will operate properly and will not wiggle around, spoiling your tuning. The action is the one thing you cannot gauge without holding the guitar in your hands. This is a combination of the tension of the strings and the height of the strings over the fretboard. If the strings are tense (steel strings or 12 string guitar) they can pull the head of the guitar upwards, bringing the strings farther from the fretboard. This means your fingers have to be very strong to depress the strings and make clear notes. A tightly strung steel string guitar needs a very low action or it is unplayable. But an action that is too low will leave strings vibrating against the frets, disrupting the sound of the guitar. This is less of a problem with classical guitars, because they have soft strings and lower tension. Even if they are set high you will rarely have difficulty bringing them down to the frets. For the price it is hard to beat this guitar as a starter instrument for someone learning from scratch. You will be able to learn the rudiments of classical, spanish and folk music, and this will give a student a route into electric guitar should they want to go the rock route later on.Anyone who can master the wide frets on this guitar will easily be able to transfer to a folk or electric guitar later. But if you start with a folk guitar, where the strings are set close together, you will find it difficult to move out to a classical guitar. If in doubt, go to your local music shop and spend a day messing with the stock to get a feel for what is important to you.

5This is a great entry level guitar
By A Customer
I have been playing the guitar for a couple of years now. This was my first guitar, and was great to learn on. It may not sound like a $5000 Martin, but this is a ton of value for the dollar. The price is about as low as you can get for any guitar, period. And this guitar is not merely a learners guitar. I've played it for a couple of gigs, and it performs great. The real advantage of this guitar is the ease of picking. The strings are set much farther apart than on a standard guitar; the neck is much wider. Thus, you can pick much easier than on a standard folk guitar. Because of this, however, and the nylon strings, it leaves something to be desired on the strum, but will perform good enough for most occasions. Overall, get this guitar if you are a beginner, don't want to invest a lot of money, or just want to experiment with the style of guitar, but not if you want a classical guitar to play professionally.

5Unbelievable quality at an unbelievable price
By Wilhelmina Gaudy
When I was 15 years old I bought this same or similar Yamaha Classical Guitar model. It was one I bought used from a friend's guitar teacher. I loved that guitar. Never did I have a single complaint about it. And I had it with me everywhere I went until I was almost 40 years old.My son was an avid electric guitar player who wanted to give acoustic a try. Since I didn't have time to play my guitar during that time of my life I LENT my guitar to him. When I eventually had more free time and wanted to get back into my music I asked my son to please return my guitar, the one I let him BORROW. It was at that time he informed me that he SOLD it to a buddy when he needed money buy a Fender bass. Kids...So...I bought this one and am very happy to have a Yamaha Classical Guitar back in my possession. The only differences I can see between my old one and this one are the colors and design around the sound hole and the absence of Yamaha on the headstock. To be sure this was the brand of classical guitar I wanted, I tried several different brands and models available on Amazon.com at local guitar stores.Every other brand of classical guitar, regardless of the price, did not hold up to the sound of the Yamaha guitars. I'm not saying the other brands did not sound good. What I'm saying is the Yamahas sounded great. Should I ever decide to upgrade to a better classical guitar, I will stay with Yamaha.I could not find a lower price for this model than the Amazon.com price...anywhere. Having the Free Shipping option was a major plus. There is only one reason I needed to call the Yamaha Customer Support Line. I needed to ask where the serial number is located. I couldn't find it to save my life. On the C40, look inside the sound hole to the inside edge of the fretboard. My guitar was wrapped very well for shipping. It came with "The Yamaha Guitar Quickstart DVD." The DVD has some very useful information to help you get started if you have no idea what to do with your guitar once you take it out of the box. A "Welcome" sheet with some good basics for beginners was also included. It is so good to have another Yamaha Classsical Guitar back in my life.

5Very well designed and thought out product
By RobbyD
This unit was designed with the traveller in mind. Here are some of the excellent features I've observed:1) LCD display can swivel out forward and lean almost flat against the unit - great for cramped viewing quarters like economy class on an airplane.2) Can simulate Dolby Digital and DTS effects in your regular headphones. The effect is breathtaking - it's like having a surround sound home theater in your headphones. Action movies never sounded so good.3) Comes with battery model CGR-H603 which lasted for 2 hours and 26 minutes in my test with the LCD set to factory default brightness and the audio level set to 6 (very loud). You can reduce the brightness to increase the battery life.4) An optional extended life battery is available (CGR-H601) which in the same test lasted for a whopping 4 hours and 30 minutes. That's a combined 7 hours of battery life - great for those longer flights.5) When the battery dies in the middle of a movie, simply pop in another charged battery and the player will automatically continue the movie from the point where the first battery died. Very convenient.6) Lightweight! This unit is very light and portable.7) The 5 inch screen is very easy to watch. The size is not a limiting factor as you quickly get lost in the movie and even forget you're viewing a small screen.8) This player supports 16:9 letterbox (widescreen) and 4:3 boxed modes.9) Comes with a full featured remote control.10) This unit can be hooked up to a TV or home theater receiver with the included RCA/Composite cable.11) Options include car lighter adapter, cassette adapter, optical cables and more.

Overall, this is the best portable DVD player I have ever been exposed to. It's quality built and small enough for serious travel. ....

5Little Wonder
By A Customer
I got this a few weeks ago and have used it a lot. I took it on a crosscountry trip for a week too. It's been a marvel. I found myself on vacation shopping for more widescreen dvd's! I have had absolutely no trouble with it. The speakers are built it but due to it's size you can't get the real effect of stereo without earphones, but I prefer the earphones anyway. The battery lasts longer if you use the earphones too. Great stereo sound with them and a wonderful high quality picture. I thought the fact that the screen is small might bug me but it doesn't, the clarity is so beautiful that you forget the size and get lost in it.My next purchase is the cable so I can use it as a DVD with my TV and see movies that way too. I am so glad I made this purchase!

5Great Buy
By liz martin
I bought this DVD for my family this Christmas. It was the best buy of the season. It has already paid for itself in entertain-ment hours. The picture is GREAT. The sound is wonderful. We have taken it on the road with us and hooked it up to the t.v. in the hotel room. There have been times when we have used this instead of our home DVD. The only thing I have not tried is the battery. I read all the reviews on this item and others. Everything I read in the reviews were right on target. I am glad I bought this DVD. Price did play a role in my purchase. I wanted to spend around 300 - 400.00 dollars. I did not look at too many DVD's that were higher. But for the money I am very happy.

4The real KLH Plat 6 Review
By Fox
All in all very nice. I would have liked to have seen binding posts on the speakers rather than clips but no matter. A very good system for the amount of money spent. My setup is a Panasonic CP72 DVD player and Sony STRDE885 amplifier and now Plat 6 system. First off let me say that the 80Hz-20kHz is kind of optimistic. Both the center and sats are probably at -3 at 80Hz. I can buy 20kHz though. After listening to Queensryche's Empire DVD-A in high-rez 5.1, I could hear some really detailed symbol work and subtle nuances, very nice! The sub is DEFINITELY capable of producing frequencies in the 40Hz range. My guess is 40Hz at 0, 35Hz at -3. It can get quite loud as well. The room my system is in is about 20'x15' and getting 108db isn't difficult. I set the sub for 80Hz and this seems to work well. Anyway like I said for music it is suprisingly good. Fantastic center channel! For movies it is equally as good (which is a first for me to have both with one system for this kind of money). Titanic, Terminator, Lord-of-the-Rings etc, absolutely wonderful bass and good clarity, especially in the vocal range. These are a bit taller than your standard "shelf" system due to the additional woofer in each sat but there is no fee lunch after all. The center channel is also fairly wide for the same reason. 4 woofers and a central tweeter. The curvature of the sats require that they sit a bit lower so that the tweeter is head level to gain the optimal amount of treble. If the bottom woofer sits at head level it could sound a bit tinny. They are aesthetically pleasing with the covers off or on. Great bang for the buck!

So what are the cons? The annoying very bright blue LED on the front of the sub could be a con or pro depending on the person. Clips rather than binding posts, a slightly optimistic frequency range on the center/sats, so-so wiring that comes with it...thats it! I enthusiastically recommend this product!
