5The best quality for the money
By A Customer
I spent a long time researching before I bought a TV and for the money this is the best you can get. The quality rivals anything out there, even TVs that cost twice as much. Put in a good DVD, adjust your set to your likings (there's several good options) and you'll see why you spent the extra few hundred for the "true" flatscreen.

5Longevity!
By Shambockadee
I bought this set as our main tv back in 2000. The tv is still going strong with a good picture and excellent sound. I don't have the courage to move it. They are heavy and cumbersome. However, the best of the cathode ray tube tvs.Pros: Better sound than most new lcd and plasma tvs. Longevity. Very good, bright picture.Cons: Huge and heavy!

5Too much of a good thing?
By Amy E. Jones
This set is surprisingly good in the following ways:

After owning this set for four months, I am astonished at how BAD other televisions look. When my friend bought a 32 inch WEGA (non XBR) and had us over to take a look, I was appalled by the overdriven picture, extensive red push and large gap between scan lines. It was like watching television through a set of venetian blinds. The same with another friend's Toshiba flat tube set.

Further, if you're a gadget-type person. you'll appreciate the fantastically in-depth service menu. Every conceivable internal setting of the television can be accessed through the remote. We have dropped the red push altogether and the picture is considerably more pleasing than when the set was new.

Finally, the resolution of the picture tube is so much better than standard televisions that flaws, edits, and manipulations in NTSC sources can easily be detected with the naked eye. This could be a turn-off for some casual owners; other television sets are too blurry and inaccurate to reveal the flaws in a broadcast. Not the XBR! With this set, the difference between high quality and inferior broadcasts is as plain as day.

To sum up, this television is superior in every way. In fact, its superiority makes some common NTSC programming look pretty bad. Some owners won't like it, preferring to hide the flaws in the signal by watching through an inferior set.

5For me it all started when I was looking at a row of...
By CHRISTOPHER KENNARD
... high-end 32" & 36" (4:3 conventional tube) TVs at national chain super store. The XBR series absolutely blew me away at 25 ft. The difference was even more astounding the closer I got. Nothing, not even the other Sony WEGA models compared to the XBR. I had to stick my face to within serval inches from the screen in order to notice the razor thin horizontal scan lines. I wasn't really planning on spending that much on a TV but I did not hesitate for a moment to reach for my check book for the XBR. With a little bargaining, I think I got mine for about... I've had it now for almost a year and I still marvel at quality of this unit. It has more AV I/Os than most users will ever need (component, s-video, and composite) 6 in all. I even replaced a fairly new DVD player for a model that had progressive scan so I could take advantage of the 480p feature of the XBR ("fabulous"). Also, my new XBOX (w/ the HD AV kit) really looks super on the XBR too.

Go, shop, compare, see for yourself. I think only the LCD HDTVs have a better picture quality but they're still too expensive and have very little content to offer today and, I think It'll be a while before they do. So, 4:3 is still the way to go. Besides, the XBR is HDTV ready. I just wish that I could have bought the 36" XBR but it wouldn't fit into my entertainment center.

4Simply Awesome!!!
By W. W. W. jr.
I just got the 32XBR450 yesterday (2/9/02) and I absolutely love it. I wasn't intending on buying this TV when I went shopping but once I saw the picture and other features compared to the "regular" flat screen TV's I had to have it. The picture's incredible, the colors are perfect and the skin tones are right on the money. I havent hooked it up to a home theater system yet but the TV audio on its own is wonderful. I connected a DVD player that has the progressive scan feature (only works with HDTV TV's) and I used the component video cable connection. All I can say about the picture quality while watching a DVD is WOW!!!! It's crystal clear. It was just like being in a movie theater except that my recliner is much more comfortable and the picture was actually better. The picture-in-picture feature is better than any I've seen. It's called Twin-View and instead of a small box in the corner of the screen it comes up in a split screen so both channels take up half the screen. Then you can resize either one you want and as one gets bigger the other gets smaller. You can also use the picture-in-picture mode while viewing a DVD, VHS, video game system or any other input you have hooked up. There are also plenty of in-put jacks (6) so you can hook up just about anything you want. Overall it's just the best TV I've seen. The ONLY reason I didnt give it 5-stars is because of the price. I paid the same price thats advertised here but I got the stand included. Oh ya and it's HDTV (ready) so when all broadcasts go over to HDTV in a few years you'll be all set. If you can pay the price then go out and get this TV NOW!!!

5Great TV!
By David
I've had this model for a month, after returning the KV-36FV17. The model that I returned didn't have the sound quality I was looking for. The KV-36FV27 is a dream come true! The sound and picture quality of the KV-36FV27 is superior to other 36" televisions across the board. The automatic 16:9 anamorphic DVD enhancement brings out the best picture. I've compared the picture this tv gives to that of HDTV televisions. It's definitely worth getting this television, until HDTV is developed further. This Sony model is the best television for your buck! The wireless headphones are very comfortable and give out a full, rich sound. Now, I prefer to rent DVD's rather than going to the movies. One word of caution, it's HEAVY! If you're looking for a large screen tv, this is the one. Look-no-further...

5Expensive, but Superior Quality
By Fernando Montes, Jr.
I've had this television for about 3 months now, and I'm VERY happy with the purchase, although I paid more than I wanted to for a television ... But what a television!

The sharpness and contrast of your standard cable-fed programming is noticibly improved. However, if you have digital cable, you'll see an even more dramatic improvement. The picture is clean from any angle and glare is reduced compared to that of a non-flat tube. The sound quality is impressive and, while playing a game on PS2, I actually thought some of the ambient sounds I heard were coming from upstairs.

The remote control is large, but well thought-out, buttons are easy to push/find and it's backlit. The wireless headphones are a wonderful addition, and they're really well made and comfortable with fantastic sound quality.

There are plenty of input jacks for whatever you want to hook up to this baby, and there should be, as this is currently Sony's top-of-the-line 36" model (aside from HDTV).

However, before purchasing, make sure your stand or entertainment center can hold this set, because it weighs close to 300lbs! I had to purchase the stand Sony makes for this model (and the FS17) for an additional [money]. It looks okay, but is of IKEA-type quality.

This really is a remarkable television. One factor that will make the price easier to swallow is that this will most likely be the LAST 36" you'll ever buy. In a few years when HDTV is more affordable/available, then you can upgrade. But for now, this is it!

5Outstanding Sony Product
By A Customer
Ok, you do pay more for a Sony than other leading brands but like I told the salesman at Circuit City, its the styling (looks) and the reputation that I'm after. The salesman even agreed, Sony has it going on.

The picture quality with digital cable and the sound quality are unmatched. I also like how the remote works with my other Sony components (a key reason for the purchase - compatability). You won't be disappointed with this product. I would recommend hooking it up to the new Bose systems that are out.

5For the money you can't beat them.
By B. Roach
The livingroom in our new home just doesn't have a place for free-standing speakers due to the floorplan (very open to the rest of the house, with a fireplace in the front corner). This ruled out using my existing (high-end) theater speakers (large towers).I went to the local big-box store, and the only set of in-wall speakers they had that I thought were worth buying were a set of Klipsch that came in at $600 per set. I almost went for them, but after measuring I found they were about 2" too wide for where I needed to install one of them. The $300 Infinity set sounded horrible. They didn't sell Polk Audio or Boston Acoustic, which was actually what I wanted to look at.So ... I figured at $140 from Amazon, the RC65i's were worth a shot. I'm glad I did - price vs. performance these are an excellent set of speakers. Decent dynamic range, and actually a surprising amount of bass if you don't have a subwoofer (though I recommend having one - you can only get so much out of a 6" speaker). Now ... are these "amazing" speakers? Well ... no. They do not compare to my aforementioned towers. Those towers were also $900 a piece. They also are not nearly as good as the $600 Klipsch in-walls I looked at. If you think you're going to get amazing clarity and dynamic range for $70 a speaker ... you're going to be disappointed. What these are is a great everyday speaker that will sound decent to most people under most conditions. They are a *slight* bit muddy, but not for the price range. That's the thing you really have to do is compare them to other speakers you could buy for so little money. And even some that cost a little more - the Infinity set I listened to at the big-box store was twice the price and didn't sound any better. It also helps if you have a good receiver that lets you control the dynamic range being sent to your speakers. I have a high-end Yamaha that allows me to cut the low frequencies out of the main channel and only send them to the sub (12" powered down-fire). Doing this, you get rid of most of the "muddy" issues.Summary: Can't beat them if this is how much money you want to spend. Period. I liked them so much for my application that I ordered a set of rc55i (the smaller ones) and installed them for the back surround channel. When I finish the basement I'm thinking of getting some of these (rc65i) to use for the back-channel.

5Excellent Speakers!!
By Weatherwiser
I purchased a pair of these in-walls for a pool table/game room area I am building in the basement. My receiver is an Onkyo 805 7.1 home theater system and these will serve as stereo/audio part for only that room. I have never owned Polks or in wall speakers for that matter and listened to them at the big box store before purchasing these through Amazon. I was really impressed at the audio quality. I also didn't want floor standing speakers, but didn't want to sacrifice audio quality either so these speakers filled the bill.No back boxes are necessary, the speaker is designed as an "infinitebaffle" type and only requires that the front and rear moving sound waveare isolated from each other. Polk recommends to maximize the sound quality, you place a modest amount of a sound absorbing material, such as Polyfil (a synthetic cotton-like material found at craft/fabric stores) inside the cavity before installing the speakers. Supposedly, this will absorb the rear moving sound wave and reduce mid range coloration. I think insulation also works just as well. I haven't done this yet and they still sound excellent!

5What a great buy!
By T. Hall
Super easy to put in and fantastic sound. Followed everyone's advice and stuffed the cavity with insulation....taped the wall with Scotch blue painters tape..and scored the paper of the drywall with a razor before cutting with a small drywall saw!

5The Best

This baby does not skip.. hit it, shake it... it simply doesn't skip. Excellent sound with enough volume unless you want to destroy you ear drums! Having a radio built in is a waste of money. This is the best Sony yet and you don't have to worry about water and sand. The seal works perfectly. It only takes one mistake with sand and you can toss those other units in the trash. Plays for hours on rechargable batteries. Maybe the make a better unit but I haven't seen it..............

5Good Long Lasting CD Player
By Bryan Nelson
I got this CD Player about 3 years ago and it is still going strong and I have been all over the world with this thing. I have dropped it left it in the cold taken it to the beach every thing and it still keeps on going. I normaly can destroy a CD player very easy so this one has been great. So for the price and quality this is a good buy.

3Good, but better for the money
By Benjamin
After having two Koss players break on me, I wanted something that was durable and long lasting. I got this player over a year ago for $$$ and though it is a very good player, for the money I could of got one with better features. First, let me say I've gone from one extreme to another. Instead of having a cheap model that lasts about three months and lots of features, I now have one with little features yet is VERY durable. I've heard stories, and even witnessed people dropping their non-sport Sonys and Panasonics and having them work fine and have a healthy lifespan. Other than the high durability, there isn't really anything more special on this thing than [more $$$]model. One that may last just as long. Some neat features include the ability to charge batteries, resume play and a jog strap. However, most players in this price range can charge batteries as well as feature resume functions. And an extra [$$$] bucks (Canadian) doesn't seem worth it for a [$$] jog strap. The water resistant is good for jogging in the rain, but most people would rather jog in dry weather (except me =)). The antiskip is top notch. You can go jogging and not have the thing skip once. With G-Protection, CD skipping is becoming a thing of the past and this player shows it quite well. Unfortunately the thing SOMETIMES stops and skips ahead about 15 seconds when you turn from horizontal to verical (or vice-versa). This only happens a little bit and usually will occur near the end of a disc (extra scratches don't help either!). Best thing to do is to hold the rewind button down and return to the previous point in the CD and continue listening. Battery life is nothing to scream about either. Though it says 30 or 40 hrs, I find it lasts me about a week, sometimes two when I'm not listening that much. For the same money I could have got one with 80 hours, slim design, optical output (whatever that is!), and a remote! The supplied headphones lasted me just under a year, which is very impressive for any set of supplied headphones. Plus the sound quality is top notch. ONE BIG PROBLEM THOUGH: setting the bass boost to max caused alot of distortion. One way to get around it is to set the bass to max and turn off and open the lid to clear resume play. Close the lid and start the player up again. The player will start up with max bass and sound amazing, giving big stereo sound with no distortion. But if you turn off and on the bass, it'll screw up the sound again. I also find this happens on other older Sony models with the "CD WALKMAN" on the unit instead of just "Walkman." The good news is that there are now newer Sony Sports discmans available! So you may now be able to get this thing for much less on clearance! However I wouldn't reccomend you spend much more than say [$$$]on this thing, otherwise you may regret it. But if you can find it for a good price, you'll have a cheap and efficiant Sony discman with extra durability!!!

3Just remember what you're buying
By Ken Teese
I purchased 4 of the RC80i for surround sound in my living room, lefts and rights for both front and back speakers. My rationale in purchasing in-ceiling speakers was the desire not to have a room filled with visible speakers. The mounting was very easy. Just cut the holes via the template and slide them in. The grilles fit snug and I'm sure will be a challenge if I ever have to remove them. The directional tweeter design is great and a must with in-ceiling speakers. Unfortunately, I was hoping for a little better fidelity. The speakers lack the high frequencies. They're good when listening to movies but you can hear the difference when listening to music. I set my expectations too high and have to remind myself of the price.

5Fantastic speakers
By workindev
These speakers are great. Installation was much easier because the large, 8" opening you cut into the wall/ceiling makes it much easier to fish speaker wire. The mounting brackets securely fasten to the wall so there is no shaking or rattling. The tweeter can easily pivot to aim at your listening position. These are voice matched to the Polk "Monitor" series speakers, so match with any other RC series in-wall speaker, CS1 or CS2 center channel speaker, and PSW10 or PSW12 subwoofer. My only 2 complaints, which were not enough to drop the rating, are:1) The speaker cutout template turned out to be a tad small, and I had to go around with a keyhole saw again to make it 1/8" larger to fit the speaker all the way. That made it a little messier, but it ended up fine.2) The speaker grill is pretty hard to remove, but you only have to do that once, and you want it to fit snugly anyways.

4Polk never disappoints!
By William C. Blevins
Bought as ceiling surround-rear drivers for a 7.1 home theater. Very good timbre for such a price point. Good match for Polks RTi series. Be careful removing the steel grilles. DO NOT do what Polk suggests by using a paper clip. I did and spent time with a body-buck and hammer flattening out the distortion the paper clip caused. You might as well use an axe! There are four clamp-screws that need to be accessed from the front. Use these four screws to gently push the grill out from behind. Once you get the grill out a quarter-inch, you can peel it out the rest of the way from the front. Hope this prevents the a little aggravation. Buy these speakers.

5Recorded disks work every time!
By Jim Schroeder
I own a Harmon Kardon CD recorder which I like very much. I have tried a number of different name-brand blank disks, in hopes of finding one that would record every time, and more importantly, play in all of my five CD players. My 2000 Buick Park Avenue is particularly discerning when it comes to home-recorded CD's. Only about 25% of my home-recorded CD's would play in the GM CD player. Since switching to these Fuji blank disks, I have made over 75 CD's without a single failure to "burn" properly or play properly.
