4Well worth the price
By I. Peters
For almost three years I had exclusively used a Jornada 820 (Windows CE handheld with built-in modem and keyboard) as a portable device. And while I still love to take the 820 along on trips, there was one drawback: It was always just a little too big and heavy for my purse. This is why I recently bought a Jornada 525 Pocket PC.

The main reason for deciding on a 525 was its price, but I was also pleasantly surprised by its great functionality and design. The device fits well into my hand and exudes a sense of quality - no thin plastic body but substantial metal with rubber coating on the sides for a better grip. It looks pretty cool.

Of course there are a few compromises compared to higher-priced Pocket PCs: The 525 does not come with a cover, although one is available separately; the stylus cannot be stored in the device itself, although there is a slot for it in the included protective glove. Also, this Jornada has only a 256 color display, and no USB interface, however, a serial cable is included for synchronization. Another thing that's missing is a docking station, but again this can be purchased as an accessory. The 525 has only 16 MB memory, and not the fastest processor (SH3, 133 Mhz).

But all these things do not bother me too much. I synchronize via infrared anyway (which you CAN do with this device), and I have already purchased a cover - the silver-colored one looks quite good with it! Sure, the 16 MB memory is not great, but luckily the 525 has a Compact Flash Card slot. With prices for these cards plummeting, I put in a 128 MB CF card and I'm loaded for bear.

If you are like me - and I would dare say like most of the Pocket PC users - you will probably use such a device mainly for storing contacts and appointments, for playing Solitaire or read an eBook while waiting at the doctor's office, or for listening to MP3 files when the wait gets REALLY long. Also for storing other information like credit card numbers, passwords and PINs, and for keeping track of projects, orders, etc. With the optional camera module, one can even take pictures and view them.

All these things work on the Jornada 525, and work well. I would urge anyone who is in the market for a Pocket PC to really think about what he/she wants to do with it, and not blindly go for ads that make you want to spend hundreds of dollars more for a little more speed, contrast, and built-in memory. The fact is that all these devices have a very short shelf life, and what is top-of-the-line today, will very likely be gone by this time next year. Unless you are one of those rare power users who really live and breathe this technology, I believe the Jornada 525 will more than meet your needs.

The reason I didn't give 5 stars is that in my experience its battery life is not the best - I've learned to never stray too far from an electrical outlet. But again: This also depends on what kind of applications you are running, and how many at the same time... Nothing to gripe too much about.

5Very satisfied
By DAN M CABLE
I have been using the Jornada 525 for about week, and I am very satisfied with the quality of this product. The unit has a nice solid feel, and there are rubber grips on each side to make it easier to hold. The leather case that is included works well, and has a sleeve inside for holding the stylus.

The 12-bit (that's 4096 colors) 240x320 display is surprisingly detailed and sharp compared to other similarly priced products. The Jornada is also equipped with a built-in speaker and a stereo headphone jack. The "up to 8 hours of battery life" for the rechargable battery usually turn out to be around 5-6 hours on low power use settings. The screen responds very well to touch, but I would recommend buying screen protectors to prevent scratching.

There are thousands of third party applications and games out there to load onto the Jornada as well. Installing programs is very easy- you just have to download the installation file, sync the Jornada to your PC, and run the installation file. The program will take a minute or two to transfer depending on the size.

Here are a few of the things I like/don't like about the Jornada:

GOOD:

- Performance vs. price (compare to Palm IIIc, Handspring Visor Platinum, other Windows CE handhelds)

- Sharp, colorful, well lit display (fully adjustable brightness/contrast)

- Fast. Very few delays while opening programs or navigating menus.

- Included items: A/C adapter, serial sync cable, carrying case

- Easy to use. Windows CE should be simple to pick up for anyone familiar with windows 9x/NT.

- Shortcut buttons. You can access your calendar, daily tasks, etc. with one touch of a button instead of navigating menus.

BAD:

- Short battery life compared to less powerful handhelds.

- The included stylus is very light. (Most people prefer heavier, more solid ones)

- The rubber pieces on the sides of the device (the smaller ones near the top) are too easy to peel open (they are not intended to be opened) They push easily back into place, though.

- The cover to the expansion slot is a little flimsy.

- Windows CE bugs. I have encountered a couple bugs, but all I had to do was reset the OS with the red button on the back of the unit to put things back to normal. This does not erase your data.

I would recommend the Jornada to anyone who wants a powerful handheld computer for keeping notes and appointments as well as playing games, viewing pictures, working on word/excel documents, and listening to music. For people who just want to keep calendar dates and simple notes, I would suggest buying a less powerful handheld with a longer battery life.

4Really awsome, especially for the price
By A Customer
This little PDA must not be advertised much. I bought one in the store after trying a lot of them, and for the money, this does just about everything! It is a Pocket PC, so it has Word, Excel, money management etc. It doesn't have World time, which I liked on the handspring and is a little heavier than some, though it is still a very portable size, not as big (or heavy) as some of the other pocket PCs. Voice recording is cool. I just got it and keep playing around with it. It's definitely not as user-friendly as the Handspring or Palm, which is why I gave it 4 stars, but it does have a great color screen and more memory and features than the other ones. You can also eventually buy a modem for it if you really want and play MP3s on it. Some other Jornadas (higher numbered ones) didn't get so great a review on Consumer Reports, so I was hesitant to buy this one, but so far, the sync capabilities with my machine are great. I think this is just one overlooked little machine.

5Favorite Toy
By Katherine Maddox
Highly recommended, and here's why:My son got this wagon for his first birthday. He could already walk, but it is still has become one of his very favorite toys. From day one he has been practicing climbing in and out of it (with the sides up, but he's tall). Since the wheels don't turn super-easily, I don't have to worry about it sliding out from under him while he does it (especially on carpet).Once my son is sitting inside, he sits down and we wheel him around the house (the faster the better). When little friends come over, they also take turns pushing each other. This is very cute and apparently so fun that they often all try to climb in at once (we've fit up to a large 18-month-old in the basket, but that's about its limit). Usually, at least once a day, I find him sitting in the walker waiting to be pushed in circles around the house. My son also pushes stuffed animals around, but the corners are hard to turn, so I do have to follow him. This is also a very sturdy toy; we will be able to pass it down to my son's children. Because toddlers can also ride in it, this is the very best walker I've seen and my son certainly loves it. If you do push your child around in it, be prepared to do it a lot (he or she will love it). And, since the handle is quite low (it's built for a toddler, after all), it's hard on an adult's back.

4High quality, but a little hard to maneuver
By A Customer
PROS:- high-quality, sturdy construction- wooden "sides" are removable, for more versatility- great for learning walkers (wheels offer slight resistance)- good for indoor or outdoor play- little ones can sit in it, if one or two sides are removed- easy to keep it moving in a straight line

CONS:- a little hard to maneuver around turns (none of the wheels "turn" to the left or right)

1Wonderful concept---watch for choking hazard!
By Kristina Corrado
My son received this wagon for his 1st birthday; he played with it constantly---mostly on a carpeted floor. It certainly helped him learn to walk---the resistance feature was my primary attraction. However, after 8 days of normal play, the tip of one of the resistance pegs (the device that "pushes back" and prevents the wagon from flying out from under them) broke off---my son found it before we did and had it in his mouth---it was a piece 1 cm in length and .4 cm in width---PERFECT for little mouths! The very next day the tip of the other resistance peg broke off!! I have been in touch with Radio Flyer and the Consumer Product Safety Commission. There has been no resolution yet, although Radio Flyer is suggesting I had an isolated defect (I'd be more likely to believe this if only ONE of the pegs had broken--but both?!). The resistance pegs are crafted from hard plastic that can (did) become brittle; it seems to me that a hard rubber composition would have been a safer alternative. I don't expect toys to last forever, but I do expect that they won't present a choking hazard. This wagon is recommended for children ages 1-4. Watch your little ones carefully when they play with this wagon!!!!!

5Nice Shorts
By Wall E Gator
Bought these to wear riding my Giant Anthem29er X1 out on the trail. Just did 24+miles thru the desert in temps from 60s to 80s and was comfortable the whole time in these. I'm 6'2" and they are long enough to cover my knees. They don't have a chamois butt pad or seperate liner short like my other fox shorts but that is ok. I like the built in belt and easy adjustment. The two pockets are zippered to keep yer stuff secure. They seem well made and durrable. Overall I love them other than white shows the dirt but no biggee, dirt is good!

5Terrific and a bargain to boot
By Jay C
The Terrafirma series is nice in that it is not purely jump related, but includes decent racing and track footage as well as several extreme trail riding segments. Also included in a couple of the tapes is trials footage that can only be described as mind-boggling. Although the split is probably 80/20 jumps to other stuff, the 20% is more than is provided on most of the other similar films. The choice of music is, for the most part, less harsh than what is usually picked for these types of films. The Terrafirma series appears to be targeted toward a slightly more mature audience than some of the others such as the "Crusty" series (which I also enjoy). As the series progresses from 2 through 5, the racing footage gets less and the film and production quality improves. It is obvious that the popularity of FMX increased as the years progressed as well as the film budgets. Considering that the typical cost of a motorcycle video is $24.95, getting 4 tapes for only (price) each is a true bargain. If you like to watch guys flying through the air on motorcycles and/or going outrageously fast on a track or trail, you'll enjoy this set.

4Best Value on the Market
By Dennis N. Schmidt
Without a doubt this is the best router value on the market. I state this owning 24 routers and I have at least one of nearly every model available. For the price of a PC 690 you get an extremely powerful PLUNGE router with the best balance of any plunger. It is not an accident that nearly every time you see someone in Fine Woodworking cutting a mortise with a plunge router they're are doing it using the TR12. It doesn't have variable speed or a soft start feature which would be nice but unless your doing raised panels the lack of variable speed is inconsequential. This is the best balanced hand held plunge router at the best price in the world.

5Great machine
By BluesSRV
I have had mine for years and years . It does not have the soft start as meantioned , it does not have variable speed , who cares . What it does have is power , balance , smooth bronze bushing plung action and an easy to reach on/ off switch mounted on the tools body . I dropped mine with the edge guide in place and cracked the base long ago but it still has held up , the nice depth knob handle is gone too . Still it is my favorite plunge router of all time . Even at its size it is light and very stable and easy to control . I want another but they are not made any longer , now we have the MV-12 which personally I don't feel is a nice or as well made as this older TR-12 . I am going to spring for a new base and brushes and cord rather than but something new , I feel this router is well worth the repair . I happen to like a round base , I'm used to one . I don't need soft start or variable speed , you hold the handles , that's what they are there for . Why not just leave well enough alone or keep making this one hitachi ? Give the consumer a choice the old reliable and the new high tech version . I truely do not understand what the benefit is of having soft start on a plunge router , the bit is well away from the wood and no router I have ever used was so powerful that it jumped out of my hands on startup , so what's the point ? Something else that can and will fail and cost a fortune to repair ? This to me is one of the largest mistakes manufacturers make , all trying to keep up with the competition when in fact they were ahead of the game long ago . A tool is something people become adjusted to and are then comfortable with , not a fashion statement .

5One of the best ever made
By Rocky
I have used this router for around 20 years and it has never failed me in either hand, jig or table use for making mortises, mouldings or raised panels.Like any plung router you have to keep the slides and other moving parts clean of wood residue. It is not for a novice who does not know how to use a router. I would highly recommend a novice take a class or at least check out a few good books from the library on router use and safety before considering a router of this class. You could end up loosing all your fingers in a heartbeat if you mess up with a machine of this class. Remember that we are considering a handheld machine with the same amount of power as a lawn mower that however spins many times faster than a lawn mower. At 10,000 plus rpm when things go wrong they do so very, very quickly. The template guides, fence holder and other accesories that come with it work beautifully. The two wrench collet system is the best system for a heavy duty router allowing you to tighten or loosen the bits with just one hand when used properly. As head of maintenance in a woodworking millwork I would use these or PorterCable for many of our custom production machines for making windows and doors before considering even Bosch or Dewalt. Makita or Ryobi would not hold up under that type of use and maintain their precision.

3disappointed
By Bryan E. Klein
I own many reconditioned Dewalt tools that I use on a daily basis and have never thought twice about purchasing another reconditioned tool until I recived this saw. Every adjustment possible was out, the fence was not even close to being parallel, the pinion gear had to be removed and rotated three teeth, the blade wouldn't spin, it was hitting the table insert. I think Dewalt needs alittle better quality control.

4Great saw
By Robert W. Harris
I was debating the smaller protable saw 50 lbs but noticed that it was not set up for the fence to cut 24 inches for a plywood sheet. I went with the 744R (reconditioned $299) and glad I did. Came like new. This is a great saw. No lightweight 70lbs. Added the bosch protable stand, almost a necessity. I take it where I want by myself. Diducted one star because of the fince being a little less than I usually expect from Dewalt. It works well but will sometimes slip a gear notch on one side and have to be lined up again. It only does this when I cause it to happen. In fact now that I know what not to do it doesnt happen.

4Dewalt DW 703 Compound Miter Saw
By A Customer
After reading all the reviews on miter saws here, I decided on the Dewalt DW 703 10-inch compound miter saw. Originally, I had ordered a DW 706 ten months ago, but a bad wreck the same day of the order meant I had to send it back until I could be sure I could even use any saw, let alone one like the 706. At any rate, I ended up buying the smaller saw because of current health considerations.

The DW 703 is great for my immediate needs. It's lightweight but sturdier than the Hitachi 10-inch saw, something one can carry from worktable to pickup tailgate with the easy-carry handle, simple to use, is accurate, and changing the saw blade relatively uncomplicated, unlike the least expensive 10-inch Delta model I tried. In addition, the blade that comes with it cuts moulding like a knife slicing cold butter....clean and smooth without any splinters. I used tape on the moulding at first to eliminate any splinters, but realized that wasn't necessary, as there were no splinters without it.

The bevel clamp knob on the back is accessible, easy to work, and very stable, adding to the feeling of security when making bevel cuts. Both miter and bevel scales are easy to read and accurate. Although some reviewers have commented that the markings are only painted on and will wear off in time, I plan to take the added step of coating the markings with a clear sealant for added life.

Probably the best feature I've found is the light grip required on the operating handle. I can't see getting carpal tunnel syndrome from overuse of the handle, for it is truly comfortable to use, unlike some of the ones i tried that required both a hard grip on a safety device as well as a tough pull-down on the handle.

It's too bad that Hoover didn't buy out Black and Decker/Dewalt, for then this saw might have had a decently engineered dust spout and bag. For this reason, I am giving the saw only four stars.

5The Best 10" Saw, No Question
By Freddie Dorrance III Denise
I am a hardwood flooring contractor. I have used just about every saw out their in my 25 years in the flooring buisness. This mitre saw, just flat out beats the rest, I have been a big Makita fan for years. The 10" Dewalt is more accurate and is as smooth cutting of a saw, I have ever used. This saw is a must for the professional. You won't be dissapointed.

5DeWalt's the best
By A Customer
A very portable solid saw. Looked at all the others like Delta, Craftsman, etc. and this saw was lighter than the rest. A must for me because it gets moved around alot. Also, the numbers on the miter gauge were not made of cardboard and tacked on like on other saws but, made of metal and easier to zero in on. A friend of mine had his Craftsman gauge fall off after only one week on the jobsite. I looked at many different saws and the DeWalt 703 saw is just built better and able to do more than the competition. Some other companies make lesser expensive saws but, you get what you pay for. Spend a little more and get the DeWalt. You won't regret it.
