4A Real Stunner - with one tiny glitch...
By griffinmill
First things first: This player's playback is unparalleled, with progressive scan and with its easily accessed tweaks for aspect ratio and a host of viewer preferences. Our SD-P2000 replaced a Sharp player which still functions reliably but which lacks the circuitry needed to produce an HD-like image. In Short, the 2000 produces outstanding resolution on its own screen and into our monitor through its S output. No improvement is seen using its component output. The unit works well as a portable with its battery pack, delivering a full movie w/o needing recharge (see below); but it totally justifies its extistence as a desk top screen along side the Mac! Play a DVD or, connected to a cable box (DirecTV receiver in our case), enjoy the sweetest little guilty pleasure imaginable as you work. Why only 4 stars? The operation manual fails to mention one important caveat: Once the battery pack is charged, remove it from the player if you intend to power the player at home with its AC adaptor. Toshiba confirmed that leaving the pack attached while using line power will shorten the pack's "memory."If you're in the market for a portable DVD player, this one is your very best option - delivering flexibility and the very best picture. As owner's manuals go, this one does a better job than most; but PLEASE don't lose the battery's capacity by leaving it attached while you're hooked up to AC. Just call customer service, as we did, to confirm this little quirk.

5Nice player
By J. Toth
Just got the player before a flight. I have to say this player doesn't dissapoint. It has a fantastic picture but only so so sound from the speakers (expected for its speaker size). Headphones on the otherhand sound great. It's loud enough even when sitting next to the planes engine. It has a lot of great features including progressive scan component video output if you have a TV that can handle it. Battery size is larger than I would like (my only beef) but has good run down time. Some have complained about battery discharge when the unit is off and TV connections not working. I say READ THE MANUAL! The manual clearly states that you should disconnect the battery when not in use. This is because the unit still requires a small amount of power when it is off. This is so you can use the remote to turn the unit on. As for the video connections, you have to use the monitor button to get video out. This player is definitely worth the price.

5The best Portable DVD on the market bar none !!!!!!!
By Dave Simpson
O.K.... So it finally arrived over the weekend after a colleague brought it back from the U.S., I opened the box withgreat anticipation and was pleasantly surprised. I already ownthe SD-P1000 but accidently dropped it and now it's inopearble.Anyway... I powered it up and couldn't believe my eyes...The screen is HUGE. The features on it are amazing... 8.9"progressive scan screen, 3.5 hour battery, (option MEDB02LX isa 5+ hour battery, twin headphone sockets (although no headphones are supplied, power-on is on the front panel as well as pause, stop, setup (or NAV as it's called), AV source button for connecting a camcorder for instance, etc. etc. The first thing I noticed is that it doesn't get hot like the SD-P1000. The batteryis a flat plinth that sits underneath the player itself. There is the ability to create your own screen saver by pausing a shot and saving into memory as a screen saver (very useful) the set-up screen is completely different to the SD-P1000 due to the NAV set-up. A credit card sized remote makes it great to use and move around. The picure is excellent and their are 4 facilities for creating your own picture set-up, including contrast, brightness, tint, colour, sharpness etc. The sound is fantastic as you have 3 sound modes, normal, 3DN-2-2, and dialogue which sounds very loud. You'll all be impressed by the size and build quality ofthis player, a real gem !!!. By the way... You can but this on the web at around..., a absolute bargain.

5Great inexpensive boombox!
By jeninmaine
...I bought this originally because I wanted to be able to havemusic in the house wherever I was, without needing to buy a seperate stereo for the kitchen, the bedroom, and the living room (I love my music).

Great little boombox, needs slightly better bass but overall sound quality is very good. CDs have all played without a problem, nice features in being able to see where in a disc you are, set playback options (random, repeat, etc.). Radio reception is very good, half the time I don't even have to use the antenna. Can put in nine presets, I really like this option! Cassette player is also good, my major complaint with that is no reverse playback. That's a bummer, but otherwise the controls are all very well laid out, and the boombox isn't made of overly chintzy materials.

It's a really neat color and shape - sort of like a little donut or spaceship with a handle. Requires 4 AA batteries to run the clock when it's not plugged in, that was a pain the first time because I made all my presets then turned off the switch for the electrical socket by accident. Oops.

Has an alarm, and the coolest thing about the radio option is you can set the alarm music volume to be different from the sleep mode music volume. That way you can set music to play for up to an hour while you go to sleep at a nice low volume, then let it blast away at a higher volume when the alarm goes off. Also has a timer, so I carry this thing into the kitchen when I'm cooking.

Very compact, very portable, and everyone who comes over wants to play with it. Overall, definitely a good purchase and worth the money for a small, powerful boombox that you can carry from room to room.

5Cheap, portable and you may buy two
By Eric Antonow
I had the precursor to this model and it followed me to three apartments. At one time or another it was in the kitchen, hanging from the rafters in the bathroom, in the bedroom as the alarm clock and much more. If you like to have music basicly everywhere and you're not in a position to even consider piping music around the house, this is the way to go. By the time it was stolen from the (overly) communal weight room in my condo's basement, it had served in every possible capacity. There were no broken buttons, cracked displays, non-working parts or other assundry defects you might expect after years of using something 90% plastic. Simple, solid and I can't say enough about it.

5Nice Sound
By A Customer
Gave this to our daughter for her 6th. birthday, it is easy to use and the sound is quite good for a box this size. When the bass boost is used, even my music sounds pretty darn good. Quality seems good, not cheaply made, a good Sony product.

2A Great Value But Very Hard To Play With
By G. Fox-Smith
It was a great value, to be able to get all the dolls, furniture and the house for such a great price. We got it for our daughter last year for Christmas. However, we are buying a new one for her for this year! The doll house is really hard to play with. Having a semi-closed front makes it hard to "get into" the house. I find that it is hard for my kids to get the dolls into the setting positions and to place them on the couches and chairs without knocking other furniture items over. It is hard to move dolls from one room to the other. It is also hard for more than one child to play with it at a time. Seeing how they play with other doll houses, it appears that a doll house that is open in the fount is a much better design. An open front doll house allows the kids to easily reach all the rooms. Also, it facilitates more than one child playing at a time (not to mention a grown-up's bigger hand). Also, an open face design takes up less space. You can push it against the wall and have only a small amount of space on either side for the dolls to "play outside". With this doll house, you need to have lots of room on either side of the doll house so kids can sit/lay down to reach into the side rooms.I love Melissa & Doug toys, but i really wish they made this same doll house with an open front design.

5excellent toy at excellent value
By Lesley Doherty
I ordered this for my daughter and she loves it, her brother loves to play with it also - and role-playing is so important. It was very easy to assemble, took my husband maybe 30 mins. The value is excellent, as it came with furniture for every room, and the dolls.I knocked one star off durability, but that may have been more of a shipping error - I bought mine from Amazon, and they sent it as is, in it's shop box! with no extra packaging, so it had a minor ding on arrival. If properly shipped, this may not have been an issue. On the whole, a winner!

5simple pleasure
By J. Brennan
Grandma gave this to our four-year old girl for Christmas. She plays with it daily, so versatile, sometimes a house, sometimes a fortress, sometimes a barn. The front piece (atrium/balcony) is removeable and as such, is prone to being a little fragile, but otherwise this is a great looking set and feels good in your hands. Highly recommend this to encourage creative play.

5Small, compact design is key!
By A Customer
This micro system is perfect for a dorm or small apartment. I bought a second one to use at the office. It sounds terrific too - much more powerful than 30 watts! It has a lot of features that are usually found on higher priced systems, like digital sound control and the clock with alarm.

5Sturdy, Reliable Bookshelf Stereo
By D. W. Dawson
I bought my Philips MZ-3 player from Amazon in the spring of 2001. I have used it in both home and office environments, often with my computer plugged in to the auxiliary jack. Despite traveling to various places in Missouri, Tennessee, and Illinois, the system provides the same sound quality today as it did seven years ago. Best stereo I ever purchased for under $100.The only reason I am writing this review is that I searched for "philips mz-3 manual" as I long ago lost mine and I had a question about setting automatic wake, and lo and behold Amazon had the PDF version of the manual right here on the site. Which is pretty darn great customer service when one considers that the product has been discontinued.

5The Biggest Little Stereo
By R. Godfrey
This compact system has served me without a hitch for years. I live in an apartment. The separate speakers allow you to point them in different directions or move them around. It's aesthetic, too. The design is simple and elegant. It doesn't have too many bells and whistles - it does what it does well. I actually used the system as a receiver, connecting it to my tv for additional speakers on movie night. I have connected my record player to it as well. It's a very functional piece that won't clutter up your space. Sounds great, looks great, affordable - what else do you need?

5Performance at a reasonable price
By Stephen Adams
I really like these binoculars. They are light, bright, work well with eyeglasses and I give five stars because they are excellent value. I bought these binoculars for a nature trip in the Amazon and I use them in the back yard, on hikes and occasionally at the symphony or opera. My sister, an ornithologist, told me to get the most expensive binoculars I could afford. To her binoculars are a professional tool but I really didn't want to afford a thousand bucks like she was suggesting. She also told me to try out binoculars in dim conditions and to get 8x42 rather than 10x42 because it is easier to find what you are looking for and easier to hold so that the view is not shaking.

In the store I compared these with the same power Leica. The Leica was nice but a lot heavier. I could tell the Leica was better, but not three times the price better. It was dusk, overcast and drizzling (ideal conditions for trying out binoculars). For example, I was looking at the brick work under the awning on a building about a block away from the store. I could see more detail in the brickwork and felt more `there' with the Leica. In brighter conditions the difference is less noticeable and I like the lighter weight of the Monarchs.

On the Amazon trip I has the opportunity to compare binoculars with other people. Most people had brought cheaper binoculars and I think as a result their wildlife watching experience was compromised. The only people who had brought comparable binoculars were avid bird watchers. They had Opticrons which are in the same price ballpark as the Leica. Again, they are excellent binoculars but not three times better.

I like the hard rubber-armor construction. It does not become slippery when wet. They feel solid but light. I am not so nervous about dropping the binoculars as I would be with the Leica or Opticrons. The firm turn-and slide eyecups (like the Lieca) are a huge improvement over the fussy soft foldable rubber eyecups found on many other binoculars.

Looking for binoculars is a lot like looking for Hifi speakers. As the price goes up, the quality improves. At a certain price point you can no longer tell the next price level is clearly better; it is mostly just different. That is a good place to buy, and is something of a personal judgement. Minolta has some binoculars that are priced between the Monarchs and the high end and I think the Monarchs are every bit as good.

5Tack sharp, lightweight and well worth owning.
By Eagle Eyes
I did alot of research before deciding on this pair. As an experienced photographer, optical quality was my top priority.I originally purchased them for hiking and long range mountain scanning in southern Oregon, and while initially perplexed between the 10X or 8X version; I found the extra sharpness of the 8X resolution negated the need for a 10X magnification, because they rendered so much detail. With the 8X, I spotted a fire lookout station that I'd never seen before, on a mountain 15 miles out of town. Quite remarkable. Added to that, was the research at Cornell University's Ornithology Center on the web. Birdwatchers extraordinaire; who called them a steal. I concur. I never thought I'd be so happy paying this price for binoculars, but it was a no brainer. Tack sharp, lightweight and well worth owning.

5Bargain of the century?
By Mr. L. Hudson
Bought these bins recently, they really are excellent, very easy to use, good feel, amazing light gathering and reproduction, and only 1 and 1/2 pounds. If you read Cornell Lab of Ornithology review, there is only 1 set of binoculars under 1000 dollars that beat these,(and they are 6x lenses not really suitable for general birding.)Everything about them feels and works like 1000 dollar lenses with two exceptions, the lens cap and raingaurd, the former in particular would be a disgrace on 50 dollar lenses, i am going to see if i can buy generic replacements. Lots of other web reviews also rave about them, and 98% of people would not tell the difference between these and top range Zeiss, Leica etc. And for 300 dollars you can take them anywhere and enjoy them.

Lego 7191 Ultimate Collector Series X-wing Fighter Product Description:

Product Description

Patience, patience. The 1,304-piece LEGO X-Wing Fighter set is a serious investment in time, but the finished product is breathtakingly cool. Eighteen inches long, 13 inches tall, and 8 inches wide, the finely detailed model includes hinged wings and an R2 astromech droid figure for added realism. Once you've completed the model (the visual instructions are fairly easy to follow), set it on the black plastic base with product details from the Incom Corporation. The Empire will crumble soon!

5Amazing attention to detail!
By Kenneth C. Jamora
TOTAL CONSTUCTION HOURS: 6 1/2 hrs over 2 days

PROS: (1) Amazing attention to detail. (2) Well-engineered and integrated mechanics to open and close the X-wings. (3) Easy-to-understand instructions. (4) Model stand with boilerplate included (nice touch.)

CONS: (1) Cockpit window has been troublesome in staying shut when closing. I had to use some workarounds to fix it. (2) Opening/closing mechanisms are difficult to adjust if not done correctly the first time. There's an issue with the weight of the wings with proper gear alignment. (3) Engines are structurally weak. It broke off on occasion, particularly travelling beyond light speed... test driving...you know...ah hem! I remedied the situation by supergluing the engine down.

NOTE: I am quite impressed with the engineers at LEGO in creating a close replica of the X-wing while maintaining the LEGO feel. Sure makes the age 7-12 X-wing fighter quite small. This model has a wingspan of 16" and a length of 19". Wow! The inclusion of a model stand is a nice touch. Makes me want to superglue the whole darn thing down. It is a bit on the delicate side.

I also purchased the Ultimate Collector Tie Interceptor, which I must say is mechanically less-intensive than the X-wing but equally impressive. Both are close to scale in relations to each other.

I hope to see more from this series. I do not regret my purchase.

4An Excellent Addition to all the Star Wars stuff out there
By A Customer
This set is one of my most enjoyable Lego investments todate! I'm not a massive Star Wars fan but I do follow the films. Everyone knows how the X-Wing looks like, roughly, but this model showed me many intricate details which I never realised - the massive length of the wingtip lasers, for example. It took me a few tries to get the gears properly aligned for the x-wing section, and that proved to be an education in itself - I am amazed at how the Lego engineers have balanced the construction of the wings and the main fuselage.

It was a small shock to me to see how colourful this X-wing model is - is it really so colourful in the films? The first page of instructions alone must have featured at least 6-7 colours. In any case, the construction work is much more fun and satisfying than the comparatively simple Tie Interceptor model of the same series - I must mention that the money spent on the X-wing is much more worth it than that spent on the Tie Interceptor (the latter is much cheaper). If you can only buy one of these models, I greatly recommend purchasing the X-Wing. Somehow, the Tie may look cooler on the box, but you won't get the same amount of satisfaction from it.

Some weaknesses in the X-wing model prompt me to give it a 2-star rating for durability: the engines' exhaust nozzles are prone to falling off, as are the tips of the wingtip laser cannons. The pilot's windshield does not close fully, but I believe some filing will resolve this problem. The wings themselves are attached to the main fuselage at just two male/female points each - which is not exactly the most secure way, but I still must appreciate the engineering that has gone into designing this model to make it easy for construction. Lastly, and not surprisingly, the model will tip over on its stand if given a solid bump - but despite all these minor faults, if well taken care of, the model will stay in one solid piece.

This is a very large model, so to speak, which may explain the 14+ (age) rating - small kids will have trouble lifting its considerable weight, so it's obviously not meant for them. But for all you youthful adults there who've followed Star Wars since the 70s-80s - this is a wonderful toy!!

5Awesome for collectors!!!
By dz-jay
This is one of the most awesome models I've ever built from lego sets! Its so highly detailed and resembles the movie's X-Wing fighter as close as possible. I was impressed at the level of detail in the model, things such as the proton torpedo cannons, the realistic-looking engines, and the cockpit. Even R2-D2 looks properly scaled to the size of the model!

I gave it "4 stars" in durable, because as so many others point out, the fully built model is sort of flimsy, and not very good to "play" with. The motors fall off easily and the wings are too heavy for their width and end up bending a little. However, I gotta give credit where its due: Although some of the pieces of the built model might fall off, but due to the fact that its made out of legos, you know that the bricks themselves will last forever. and everyone knows that building the "box" model in the instruction booklet is not the only thing legos are for!

In any case, for collectors/builders like myself, this is a great item: fun to build and fun to stare at! :)

-dZ.

5Long Lasting...

This is the longest-lasting and fastest cutting blade in my collection. Quality carbide for sure. Can be sharpened a number of times. Make sure you sharpen it as soon as you feel you must apply more pressure for cutting or when the number of sparks starts to pick up.

5Cuts Alum like a hot knife through butter!
By K. Hines
I got this blade after trying to cut alum stock with the standard abrasive wheel that came with my Porter-Cable 14" chop saw. The abrasive wheel did a very poor job at cutting through the 1" alum stock; melting rather than cutting though the alum stock. This really sucked because I had to do 5-10 minutes of filing with every cut to clean up the mess. With the new blade, the cuts are fast and clean as a whistle! No extra clean up work required. Worth every penny! Say goodbye forever to the abrasive wheel!

5Contrary to popular opinion, this system rocks!
By Ronin T.
I recently purchased the FR965 due to the fact that it was one of the few lower-end home theater systems that offered numerous connections, as well as S-Video/DVD and Component. Needless to say, when I got it home, I had a blast setting it up and playing around with the Universal Control (you can program it to work with other components, as well as the built in Tuner) You can actually hook up a Vinyl Record/LP player to it, as well as a CD player, a CD-R, a DVD, a Satellite system, a VCR and a Tape player to it ALL at the SAME time! It has tons of connections on the back for future use. I highly recommend this system!

3Innovation with flaws
By HPD
I have owned the Nomad 3 (40 GB) for a few months now and have praise for the innovations with a LiIon battery and a fat drive, the firewire/USB ports and the recording feature. However, there are significant drawbacks with this device that I believe have to do with human factors and make me look elsewhere for a better solution. In a nutshell, Creative's device is beautifully and innovatively engineered, but stupidly designed in terms of software, form factor and user interface, due to an apparent lack of usability awareness at Creative's design team. More specifically:

- It is not possible without extra software to connect the player and simply use it as external harddisk, which is possible with most other players on the market - a major drawback.- The player sometimes locks up and needs a reset or battery removal.- Disk access is rather slow and playback typically incurs some startup delay.- The bulky discman form of the player may make it familiar to nontechnical users but is neither handy nor practical. Several times I have almost dropped the player because of its rounded shape and placing it on a car console other than flat is not possible.- The second battery options reminds of "razor-blade" extra moneymaking - why not make the device smaller or offer one large built-in battery?- The jog wheel favors right-handed people - a crosshair or wheel-based user interface in the front middle would have been more practical - see ipod design.- The recording feature is very limited - the input level is not variable and a mic input would have been essential.- The PC software for the player is non-intuitive and the creation of playlists largely useless, because shuffle play cannot be chosen just for a specific playlist and applies by default only to all loaded songs.- The currently played track is only shown when pressing the info button twice.- The player plays by default only a single track in normal mode and then stops.- The search feature is rather primitive, largely due to the low-res display.

MP3/WMA (etc.) playback and recording on a high-capacity small-format player is a promising market and I do wonder how much longer it will take for companies to step beyond intentional "deficiency engineering" and present a compact device with an intelligent and practically designed user interface. Apple is closer in many terms but the lack of recording and copy capabilities makes the ipod a consumer toy rather than a tool.

5Forget iPod, This Is The Real Deal
By Justin C. Phelps
I purchased my Creative Nomad Jukebox 3 almost a year ago in January of 2003. Before that I had a Creative Nomad Jukebox C refitted with a 30GB hard drive that I bought on eBay. I was looking to upgrade since the battery life of the Jukebox C was pretty terrible.

The Jukebox 3 I purchased was refitted with a larger 60GB hard drive. The first noticible difference is the battery life. At close to 22 hours of continuous play, EVERY OTHER MP3 PLAYER BECOMES OBSOLETE! Of course this will fluctuate depending on your backlight settings and such. I was very hesitant of the side scrolling wheel since the Jukebox C came with up and down arrow buttons. After getting used to using the scroll wheel I am convinced nothing else is better. Driving down the Autobahn in Germany and being able to locate and play artists and albums with one hand while driving 130KPH is a godsend.

As of now I have 10,000 songs, 40284MB on my Jukebox 3. The user interface software, Creative Playcenter, is very user friendly. I initially used Firewire but had some problems so I only use the USB interface now. I think it is only 1.1 speed, though it is noticibly faster than loading songs to the Jukebox C. I have had a few problems connecting to Playcenter, but nothing that can't be solved with patience. I was impatient once and found some different Third-Party software called NOTMAD. This NOTMAD software allows the user to use a drag and drop interface like Windows Explorer as well as transfer regular computer files, a feature NOT allowed by Creative Playcenter for the Jukebox 3. I prefer using Playcenter and using cut/paste to input Artist and Album information.

Using the Jukebox 3 to play songs or albums is very easy. Anyone who rides in my car can learn to use it very quickly. I don't use the playlist option that much, but it was easy to make a playlist. I heard an ugly rumor that the iPod can only utilize playlists made on the computer and is unable to make playlists on the iPod itself.

There is one detractor to the Jukebox 3 which starts to occur when around 8,000 are loaded onto it. There is a utility called "rebuilding library" which starts when you turn on the Jukebox 3 within 24-48 hours after loading new songs. This can happen with as little as adding 2 albums. From my understanding this utility is much like defragmenting the hard drive, moving the bits of information closer to the middle of the hard disk. This utility takes approximately 2-3 hours to complete and has the backlight on so it is best to have your battery adapter plugged in when this occurs. You can manually initiate this along with other utilities by using the included manual (but who reads those?) I only note this as a detractor because unless you manually initiate it after loading new songs, it will self-initiate within 24-48 hours at the most inopportune times like Trans-Atlantic flights, long road trip in Germany. Yes i am bitter. I use my Jukbox 3 every single day so this bugs me when it happens.

Support for the Jukebox 3 is outstanding. Updates to all drivers and firmware are easy to locate based on model and operating system on the Creative website.

The physical durability of the Jukebox 3 is outstanding. My Jukebox 3 has been all over Europe, trips back to the States, Saudi Arabia and more recently Iraq. In especially dry or dusty environments I try to keep it covered and/or enclosed as much as possible. It has dropped a few times, once on a hard tile floor, and never skipped! The scroll wheel has held up great, I foresee this as a possible problem in the far future. An important note is operation in cold environments. DO NOT LEAVE OUTSIDE OR IN A CAR OVERNIGHT IN A COLD ENVIRONMENT! When you turn it on the next morning it'll be slow and the screen will look like it is broke. I paid $600 for mine so I baby it so it will last for a long time.

In short, the battery life is the best out there at nearly 22 hours. Support, usability, durability are 1st class in my opinion. As i stated before, I paid $600 for a refitted 60GB Jukebox 3. So the price you pay for any Jukebox 3 model now is a steal. Hope this is more a helpful review than a sales pitch. Enjoy!

5The player is great, I've tried them all..
By Randy Winston
I note that some of the complaints about the menu setups of the Nomad 3 reflect the fact that the users did not know that the first thing they could have done is go to Nomad's website and download an upgrade for the firmware which make the players menu display the individual albums or track for each artist. I frequently check their site for upgrades but the capacity is enormous, I even have audiobooks downloaded onto this thing. I've owned all the Nomads since the first 6 Gig unit and this one is by far the best.

5Lots of features and excellent sound.
By D. R. Schryer
I like to play music -- mostly classical -- at my desk at work. This past week the volume control on my old Sony boombox broke (after nearly ten years of daily use) so I went out looking for a replacement. I was pleasantly surprised at the low prices of most of the units I saw, but they sounded rather tinny compared to the good sound I was used to from my old Sony. At the end of the shelf I found this model. When I inserted the CD which I had brought with me for auditioning, I immediately heard a clear improvement in sound over the less expensive models. In fact, the sound was even better than that of my old Sony with which I had been thoroughly pleased. I bought this model on the spot and the next day installed it next to my desk at work. It's very convenient too use, looks nice (compared to most current boomboxes) and sounds great. Sure it cost a few dollars more than the inferior-sounding units but(...) I'd say it's a great buy.

Incidentally, although I listen almost exclusively to CDs, this unit has two tape drives, which allow for tape dubbing (which a lot of cheaper models don't) as well as a digitally tuned AM/FM radio. Also the CD player has 1-bit conversion -- like the best CD players, but unlike most boomboxes -- which contributes to the better sound. As I said, it's a great buy.

2Definitely Not the same old Sony quality
By just mo in
1 YEAR UPDATE 2/6/05: This Sony boombox has gotten worse since I last reviewed it a year ago. I just discovered that the right speaker (as you face the unit) no longer works when playing CDs. When using the radio or tape deck, no problem. The only sound out of the right speaker when playing a CD is just a very faint crackling sound. Understand that this boombox sits on a tabletop and is hardly moved around even though the intent of a boombox like this should allow for frequent moving. I'm pretty disappointed while I sit here listening to one channel on stereo CDs. Time to go shopping - only after 1 yr of use! Not good.ORIGINAL POST 1/25/04Pro:1) Doesn't look flashy and wierd like a lot of recent boom boxes.2) Still working after 2 yrs. - nothing has broken (no CD playing problems).3) Does a basic job of making sound.Con:1) Turns on mysteriously at night probably due to a neighbor's remote controller on the same frequency as my boom box or being triggered by some other random radio wave. (has freaked me out at times causing me to wake up in the middle of the night and get out of bed to turn it off - really freaky if the CD is playing my daughter's nursery songs.)2) Setting radio station presets is not intuitive and simple.3) Lacks decent bass sound relative to my Magnavox boom box, even with the "Mega Bass" activated.4) FM and AM radio reception is mediocre. I live in Los Angeles with a lot of strong radio stations but some local stations just don't come in clearly without static.5) Lacks the Sony quality feel that I used to know.6) Price to high - should cost around $60 for what you get.Bottom Line: I expected better from Sony given my past experience with their products.

5Awesome Music Player!!
By Art and Soul
I have owned two of these for two years now, and have another one on my wish list. I cannot praise them highly enough. I am very particular about music sound and quality. The sound on this player is absolutely awesome, whether you are playing a CD, listening to the radio or cassette tapes! And it does quality dubbing from one cassette to another, and fantastic recording from CD to cassette tape. I am not a technical person, but am particular about sound, and I use Sony studio headphones to plug into this for those times when I want to listen solo. (I can also recommend KOSS headphones, available here on Amazon) I use those with my MP3 player and portable CD players.I can say that my Mom purchased a Bose system for her home (very pricey) and she was so disappointed. After hearing this Sony, she was just sick that she paid so much, because the sound of this Sony player was better. I can highly recommend it.

5Great, as usual
By tzefirah
I've been using FileMaker Pro software since version 1.0, when it was originated by Claris, and was only for Macintosh. I've since switched to PCs, and FileMaker Pro is now its own company. But the quality of the software remains excellent, the upgrades are always worthwhile, and this is still the most user-friendly database I've ever used.

Especially if you're an Access user (which is impossible software!), you will love the ease and versatility of this program.

5Outstanding product that empowers users and designers alike!
By Mr. G.
Greetings Amazon reviewers..

Now that you've read the Microsoft commercial below from:"Reviewer: A software user from Stratford, CT USA"Who probably, "needs a kick in the pants!"

Here's the truth, this product has the capabilities for implementing a client / server database network easier than anything currently on the market! And the client / server capabilities are built in! And it doesn't matter if it's based on the PC OR the MAC. Further, once designed and implemented, will work seamlessly with both platforms on the network. Additionally, after extensive research for an insurance client that I just completed designing a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) for, it was BY FAR the least expensive alternative, ESPECIALLY relative to Microsoft. In addition, it has the lowest overhead (computing hardware/software requirements) relative to anything of its capabilities on the market. You can reference these system requirements (along with features) at their web site that really gives a good deal of information. Note these minimum requirements below that most systems/owners can easily handle these days:(compare these minimum requirements to the latest version of Microsoft's Access or any other database for that matter)

PC· Intel Compatible 90 MHz Pentium or higher· 32 MB of RAM (or more)· Windows 98, Me, NT4 (SP6), 2000, XP

Mac· Power Mac or higher· 32 MB of RAM· OS 8.6 - 9.22

Mac OS X· Apple G3 or higher· 128 MB of RAM· OS X 10.1

The client I was designing for had older PCs using Windows 98SE. Obviously, I used the PC version of the software, which is very similar to the Mac version. If I had decided to implement a Microsoft "solution" it would have involved upgrading not only the hardware but the operating systems too. Then, the cost of the Access copies (licenses) certainly doesn't come cheap either if you haven't compared lately. FoxPro didn't fair any better, SQL Server worse. Especially in a client <==> server design paradigm!

Bottom line, a fully customized relational database designed, developed and deployed on a network in record time with minimal cost to the owner (no new hardware or operating systems) and working from initial installation to this day with minimal database administration. FULLY compatible with either PC or MACs on the network and future operating system upgrades on either platform. Personally, I'm pleased and I know a business that is extremely happy. Win-win situation..

One thing I found rather nice is you can download a 30-day free trial of the basic Filemaker Pro software at their web site to see if it meets your needs - certainly a nice gesture. (filemaker.com)
