Cuts Everything in its Path, Nails Included!

I used to pull nails out of boards with a claw hammer, now I just cut right through them. This is a fantastic time saving tool for anyone working with existing contruction. If you plan to finish your basement, move a wall, add a window, install a door or repair a deck, buy one of these. You simply won't find another tool for the money that will provide so much time savings and value.
No need to pay a lot, this model has the all the key features you'll need; 10 Amp motor, Variable Speed, Quick Change Blade Chuck and Carrying Case.
Think you may need the oscillating blade model? Keep in mind that these saws are not designed to make extremely straight or precision cuts -they are designed to cut quickly with only fair accuracy. The oscillating blade will cut wood somewhat faster than this model. Instead of paying more, if you will be cross-cutting a lot of boards, buy a 10-12" miter saw. Need to rip plywood or OSB?, use a circular saw with a straight edge. If you need to do demolition, cut rough curves, blind cuts, tight space cuts, short rips, cut metal, cut PVC pipe or anything else except concrete -buy this.

Almost perfect - but missing on a couple small details

First of all, this is a terrific saw. Good variable speed control, fast tool-free blade changes, solid construction, tremendous power, and reasonably smooth operation. I consider these features to be absolute requirements for anyone looking to buy a $100-$150 reciprocating saw. In these categories, I think this Porter-Cable is one of the best saws on the market. Where they missed is in the small details. The thin metal and wood blades that come with the tool are pathetic. After bending all the blades that were included, I went out and bought two Blu-Mol Aggressor Xtreme 6" Bi-metal with cobalt blades...a wrecking blade for wood, the other a "rescue/demolition" blade for metal. What a difference! This is the ultimate blade/saw combination. I'm also not a fan of the way the cord is stored in the case. Getting the case shut without pinching the power cord is a problem every time I put it away. Would have been nice if they would have made room to wrap the cord around the tool itself. But these minor annoyances are exactly that...minor. The quick change mechanism is a breeze and it's a great tool overall.

So far, so good

As a renovation contractor, I've had ring gear failure on two Black and Decker Industrial recips.- (now known as DeWalt DW 303k) in spite of regular maintenance, so I gave the PC 9735 a shot about 3 months ago. From my research, the combination of power, price and stroke can't be matched. Plus, once the one year warranty is over, I can open her up and install 20' of inexpensive SJ cord, unlike most of the Milwaukees, and reach for the stars! You will learn very quickly to hold this baby between your legs as you manipulate the quick lok blade clamp with two hands, but reject any recip w/o this feature. (I have had to use Vise Grips on a PC 9737P) The case is crowded- I did a field mod on my old B&D one. No, you don't need orbital action- we're not doing cabinet work here. Check out the reviews in JLC Oct. 2000. Don't consider vibration- If you're not used to standing on a ladder, shakin' & quakin' with cut offs cascading down on you, learn computer programming or get a job with the USPS!
