4A great addition to any home system
By Joe
The HK AVR110 is a Rolls in the world of audio...the clarity is well worth the price. As everyone goes by basic wattage output in rating a receiver then you must explorer the world of Harman Kardon. The 50 watt output is better than any 100 watt receiver I have ever tried. The unit has that basic raw power that is desired of any unit but usually reserved for the pricey products. I would recommend the AVR110 to anyone.

55 Star Performance at a 3 Star price
By A. Freedman
WHY SHOULD YOU BUY IT? There is no hiss at any sound level. It is perfect sound reproduction normally only found in units costing more than $1000! If you have a normal size room and need awesome state-of-the-art digital sound reproduction, than the AVR-110 is perfect. If you need more power for a larger room, upgrade to the AVR-210 (mostly kids complain there is not enough power in the 110 unit).

WHY SHOULDN'T YOU BUY IT? If you like bells and whistles (DSP sound fields and unlimited tinkering ability) than buy one of the Sonys (but be prepared for lots of hiss). If you need unbridled power with lots of KICK - buy Yamaha (and deal with a little hiss).

THE DARKSIDE OF THE AVR-110: Okay number one - the remote sucks. You will throw it away (or throw it into the wall). Number two - the instructions suck. It will take you a day to get it to do what you want.

SUMMARY: This is the best value for great Home Theater and state-of-the-art CD sound reproduction (including dts). It is a pain to get started, but once you do have it running... Well there just is no comparison in this price range. I know, I did my homework before I bought it.

5Best receiver out there for the money!
By A Customer
I researched mid priced A/V receivers for a while, and after I ruled out Sony, Yamaha, Kenwood, Aiwa, and all the other companies that rely on customers assuming that bigger numbers mean better product (now lets see, how exactly does sony sell a 100w x 5 receiver for $200 again? I've seen charts where it drops much lower as the volume goes up), that left H/K and Denon standing.

I really didn't want to spend too much on my receiver and this receiver was right at the max. Denons have very good reputations, but A: They look cluttered with all the buttons on the front, and B: I found their interface somewhat confusing.

This unit on the other hand, is VERY simple. I skimmed the manual, which is not the best I've seen, but as I said, this receiver is not brain surgery. The front of the unit has 5 buttons to select different tuning options and then a few sets of scrolling buttons for surround sound modes, source select, etc. I was up and running with all the channels and speakers calibrated to my liking within an hour.

Logic 7 is quite lovely for movies, TV, or video games. It uses the rear speakers and gives you some nice depth. 5ch stereo is another nice feature, but just sends the same sound out of all 5 speakers. I haven't played with the other modes much (except for DD and DTS, which I use all the time for movies), but they are Hall, Theatre, Vmax (far and near), Prologic, Prologic 3-Stereo, and, ofcourse, just regular stereo :)

The binding posts on the back for the speakers are a blessing and the fact that there are S-video jacks for every video input.

Other reviewers have commented on the remote, which I'll admit, isn't great, the buttons are too close together. If you do get another remote, make sure its one that can learn fuctions (such as the Sony RM-VL900 like I have). There is a button on this remote that I haven't been able to access from the front panel of the unit. That function is: night mode. This "night mode", brings more detail to Dolby Digital and DTS sound tracks when you're listening to them at lower volumes.

Note: there's an AVR-120 out now, that is the same as this, but offers I believe 5 more watts per channel and has Dolby Pro-Logic II which is supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread. I'll find this out when I get my AVR-520.

3a little disappointed in HK
By doppelganger
All around this is a good amp, but the truth is that I could have gotten a Sony for half the money that would've been the same, if not better quality. The options for surround are nice (there is a 5 channel stereo), but the "hall" mode gives no echo effect, and the "theatre" mode does nothing for me either. The main reason I really wanted surround and especially the center channel, was to make peoples voices louder while watching DVD's because I run for the remote every time something loud happens. I'm all for the audio experience, but ambients are just too loud in movies these days and I have neighbors who I'm sure will agree with me. Turning the center channel all the way up and the other 4 speakers all the way down does almost nothing. They should have made these buttons actually have an impact on the sound, instead it just seems like all the audio tracks come through the center channel even with the little DTS light "on" that should seperate all the tracks. Another stinker was that every video out RCA jack was broken right out of the box, (I know this only after a grueling process of elimination). I also must say I'm a little disappointed in amazon too for not double boxing this. It is customary to send expensive components in a DOUBLE BOX so it takes less abuse in transit and is not stolen. I'm never going to purchase something of this granduer online again.

5One HELL of and AMP
By JASON
This Amp has Blown me away as well as my audience thus far! When this amp is hooked up correctly...and I mean so it uses its full digital capabilitys with DVD it has killer digital sound...and its other non digital soundstages it has are great! if you listen to other brands you will hear that harman has done a great job with its sound fields and stagingim using it with these components...sony dvd dvp-n57oop using the fiberoptic cable for digital sound transmission,a pair of jbl floor/bookshelf speakers (8")s338be (front), polk audio for center stage(front), a jbl sub pb12" 250 watt positioned under the TV, bose acusta mass dual cubes for rear fill, and a 36" sony trinitron...just listen to the blueman group DVD and see if your receiver can keep up with is pace..

I know there are alot of other killer receivers out there but I have found out that this receiver best suits me and my applications... it just keeps on cranking..

Best Regards!

Jason

4A great surround sound receiver!
By A Customer
I love the AVR 510 surround sound receiver! With the multiroom audio capability (providing complete, independent control of a second-room audio system from either the primary listening room via the front panel or the included separate Zone 2 remote control), is like owning two receivers in one! The surround sound is exceptional. Speaker levels are adjustable, so you can calibrate the different speaker channels to your own preference. I am still finding out new things and useful features of this unit, but I have been very happy with it thus far. It was well worth the price.

5great home reciever
By SL
I have to give this a five star because I see absolutely nothing wrong about this receiver. Well, if you are a remote control freak, you might be disappointed with HK's non-learning, non-universal remote. This reciever has pretty much everything you need to set up a nice home theater. It has DTS and Dolby Digital, essential for making full use of your DVD player. One reason I got this Harman Kardon instead of another reciever that's cheaper and has as many features is because of its sound quality and durability. Note that this receiver only outputs 40 watts per channel. Obviously, this wouldn't be suited for college parties (although I think it's quite loud at high volumes). If you are thinking of building a home theater and if space is one of your concerns, this is an IDEAL receiver for smaller speakers systems with satellite speakers (like BOSE or Polk Audio). You will never have to worry about blowing out the speakers. It will complement and make use of every thing your smaller speakers can handle with beautiful sound output.

5Incredible machine
By Peter John Hill
I just picked up one of these beasts. It is awesome. Don't let the power rating fool you. It says 40 watts, but that is over the full 20Hz to 20k Hz, and that isn't peak power, like cheaper recievers tell you. It can drive the speakers at high current without any detectible distortion.

This thing has more inputs and outputs then anything else I have seen, for example. Check out the detailed specs. It will convert s-video in to composite out, which is nice for me, since my tv does not have s-video in.

I love the auto level setup for the speakers, using a pressure sensor on the remote. Incredible.

The remote now controls my tv, dvd player, cablebox and reciever, plus you can set up macros on it, up to 17 steps, you can make it turn on your cable box, reciever, and television with one button, plus turn them off with another.

The On Screen display is nice. The best part for me is that I got it as an open box for $300 at circuit city.

Try it, you'll like it

By Todd Jones
When I received this unit on 10_11_12 had a slight hum eminatting from somewhere barely noticeable, seemed to go away after about 20_25 min.Almost a month later would turn off by itself.Ithought maybe it got too hot even tho the volume is set at_19 not loud ar all was just watching t.v. shuts off so turn back on w/remote and it is ftne for rest of the night.Even ran my palm over top of cabinet barely warm?Had an older AVR70years ago woked, sounded great that crazy thing all of a sudden would turn on by itself after Ishut her down for the night.Dont know what it is w/me and H/K recivers probably cause they were used units.Enough of these used units got my eye on a different H/Kmodel here at Amazon 2 new ones left still in supposedly the original box unopened.Just waiting for xmas bonus next few days then will order. Will post a review on it 1or 2 weeks after enjoying it.Iknow why in the world would you get another H/K simply b/c H/K ROCKS!!! I should have better luck w/a new unit even tho it was manufactured 7or 8 yrs. ago still in org.box no runtime࿿

5HP 4550 Color Laserjet is Best Printer out!!
By A Customer
I printed a lot of photos with my old 895cse printer, and they looked great, but the ink could smear and it took forever. I recently bought this printer, and it is fantastic, clean and crisp prints... and full color in the same time it takes to print a text page, about 20 seconds. And you don't have to replace the cartridge every other week, so far it's been 3 months and I haven't changed the toner yet. I say if you can afford this now, it will pay off in the long run.

5Craftspeople Need the Best Tools
By Dan Poynter
The HP-4550 Color LaserJet Printer is a great tool.

We live in a color world. Our television, magazines and newspapers are in full color. It only makes sense to be able to reproduce what we see on our computer screen in color. Black/White output is only a poor representation, not an accurate reproduction.

Since many people are considering trading up from a LaserJet 4 as I did, I will compare the two.

The 4550 is heavier. You will need two people carry it and to move it from its shipping carton to a table.

The 4550 is larger. Check the measurements. Make sure you have room for it.

The 4550 is noisier but the fan shuts off after a few minutes of nonuse and it goes into a sleep mode after 30 minutes (adjustable).

The 4550 is slower. It is first-page-out rated at 26 seconds in b/w while the HP-4050 is rated at 13 seconds.

The printer cable is rather short. You may need an extension.

If you have a small office and require more speed, you may be better off with an HP-4050 (b/w) printer and a small color inkjet printer.

The manual is excellent, the setup is easy and the color is great.

As a publisher, author of 26 Books, 109 revised editions, six translations and over 500 magazine articles as well as a consultant to the book publishing industry, I spend a lot of time using my computer. I need the best tools. The 4550 is a great tool. DanPoynter@ParaPublishing.com.

5A Color Laserjet that is Commercially Viable to Inkjet
By Todd M. Hess
I broke down and purchased an HP Color Laserjet 4550 in March (my yearly bonus paid out!). While it required my teenage son and myself to lug it into the house (it is rather lofty in size), setup was simple and the quality and durability of prints cannot even be compared to an inkjet printer.

Prior to purchasing the 4550, I owned three color inkjet products and have never been satisfied with the final prints. Even if you could get the prints to look good right out of the printer, their durability (ink smears, color degradation, etc.) certainly suffered.

How to justify a rather sizeable purchase? Save your money and don't buy the poor reliability from color ink jet printers not to even mention the cost of the cartridges (but note you will have to anticipate the costly replacement of the four toner cartridges used in the 4550 laserjet eventually). Also, purchase a nice card maker software package (I use Hallmark Card Studio 2) and some good laserjet photo paper, and you can easily justify the cost of this color laserjet.

I wish I would have never bought into the color inkjets and waited for this nearly affordable color laserjet instead.

5Be sure to ask your dealer how much FLASH & DRAM you're buying / it makes a difference 2611's are obsolete
By Anonymous
============ This review is intended for the amateur / network engineer uninitiated with Cisco devices / a Cisco engineer will just roll their eyes at the following obvious statements and should avoid commenting unless they have nothing better to troll ============It has to be clarified, these 2600 series devices are considered obsolete, they are still suitable for installation and usage by skilled and experienced engineers who've determined a 2600 is adequate /but Cisco no longer supports the devices and IoS designed for the 2600 router series.Since you're buying it used, ask the seller for the RAM and Flash specifications and included IoS images before purchasing since it determines which features you can transfer or install.Example, the K9 version ( c2600-ik9o3s3-mz.123-25.bin) that supports 3DES and some VPN, intrusion detection and decent firewall features (FROM 2008) requires 16MB of Flash and works better on 64MB of DRAM.But a smaller 8MB/32MB DRAM might be forced to use a 12 year old version (c2600-io3-mz.122-3.bin) lacking the newer features and even afflicted with security bugs.CCNA students should take note of that fact if you haven't already learned Cisco doesn't define minimum hardware specs and historically allows resellers flexibility in equipping devices along with their marginsObtaining IoS images can be fairly easy, but upgrading FLASH and DRAM can be expensive since it is made uniquely for Cisco and these older device chips aren't widely produced if at all. You can easily expel three times the cost of the entire 2611 in for just a 16MB flash upgrade and that costs the same as just buying a better 2800 series which includes contemporary capacity.Cisco DRAM and FLASH isn't commodity priced and something easily purchased at BestBuy or Amazon, it is un-competitively expensive.
