5Exo-Toa is cool
By A Customer
The Exo-Toa is very impressive. It takestime to construct it but, once done, it is a lotof fun. I was able to fitGali, Lewa and Kopaka in the Exo-Toa. For Onua,it was more difficult and for Pohatu it wasimpossible. One arm of the Exo-Toa has a clawand you can extend it (but, you must hold thearm, otherwise it goes back to its original position). The other arm is a canon that shoots (very nice!).I recommend this toy to everyone, but it is more funif you already have a Toa.

4Exo-Toa - The Power Lies Beneath
By A Customer
Overall: Exo-Toa, the second Bionicle summer 2002 set. It's a terror to build (took my brother about 1 1/2 hours), but it is really fun to play with. Action: It's left arm consists of two hooks, which form a pretty cool claw. When you push a certain place, the claw-arm bashes forward. The right arm is a blaster-like mechanism, but when you pull a lever it shoots. (It has a rubber padded end so you don't jab out an eye.) The top of the Exo-Toa flips up to allow a Toa head to fit in, as long as you press the button on the front to flip down the front.

4Give your Bionicles a new 'skin'
By M. Ragen
My children have just started to get into the Bionicle toys. Although Bionicles are really just action figures disguised as lego-style building projects, they have (much) more merit. I do have a comment on the education value of Lego's generally speaking. As one person notes, they don't teach you math. But, the kits DO teach children how to follow directions -- at least, my boys have learned that it can waste a significant amount of their time when they do not not look carefully at the guides. This is a valuable skill assuming that they ultimately have to figure out how to follow directions later on in their lives. (Like, say for high-school chemistry where adding ingredients in the proper order may prevent problems...)

Anyway, this has been a great addition to my boys burgeoning collection of Lego creations. It makes each of the Bionicles that they have that much larger -- and, consequently, more powerful in their battles with each other.

5Blind Hemmer, How can you sew without it!
By A Customer
I have really enjoyed using my blind hemmer. It is very smooth, easy to operate. The learning curve is very minimal because it has one single function and that is to hem. You can hem a garment in no time flat. It is much better than the blind hem feature on most sewing machines.

5Thumbs up!
By Joey Robichaux
I rate this machine very highly for what it is -- a light-use home blind hemming machine. It's not an industrial model meant to do miles of blind hems -- it's meant to be used hemming a few pairs of pants at a time. Given that, it works wonderfully. One "knock" against this machine is that it uses a straight needle rather than a curved needle. The people who stress this knock tend to be those who own a curved needle machine! I don't see this as a minus -- it means I can share needles with regular sewing machines instead of laying in a stock of curved ones. Since the needle's straight, the BH-600 forces a slight "hump" in the fabric's hemline when you lock the machine in place ready to hem. Some feel this is a disadvantage -- I haven't found this to be the case.If you'd like to see some pictures of this machine in action, I have a photo-diary at [...] By the way, this machine is identical to the Babylock BL-101 -- they're the same machine.

3BH600 needs a better manual
By ARO
I would agree that the Simplicity BH600 does not take a long time to learn to use, but a better manual would really help. The instructions for threading are good, but not for other operational details. There are 3 knobs which can be adjusted to accommodate different fabrics, stitch length, depth, and thread tension. The manual tells you that much. However, it doesn't tell you what those things mean nor what the numbers mean or when you should turn the knobs which way.Take stitch length, for instance. On my old Singer machine stitch length meant the number of stitches per inch, and measured the distance the feed dogs moved the fabric per stitch. Higher numbers meant smaller stitches. On my Janome, stitch length refers to the number of millimeters the fabric moves per stitch the needle makes. Smaller numbers mean smaller stitches. I have no clue what the "stitch length" means on the BH600 or what is measured. The total information given is "Variable stitch length to customize the stitch for every fabric weight." Not a clue concerning what is measured (interval between stitches? length of the stitch from the edge of the fabric?) or when you should turn the dial one way or the other.Nevertheless, its compact size is very important for those of us who only need a blindhemmer once every couple of weeks, it stores very neatly in the box it ships in, and it worked well right away on the lightweight cotton the machine was set up for. I'm just afraid that it will be a bear when I have to try to figure out those knobs by trial and error. One year later: I would take away some stars at this point. The tension system is not at all robust in this machine. Even though I do not use the machine heavily, with months going by without using it, the tension mechanisms are totally shot. It started giving trouble just before the warranty was done and I contacted a certified shop to see about getting the machine worked on. I was told that the spring is a little weak, just take it out and stretch it a little. I did and that worked for a while, but it is pretty worthless now. I supplement the spring with a washer my husband found that is the right size, but the plastic knob that holds the tensioner parts together is also cracking.I would also not buy another straight needle hemmer. The problem with the straight needle is that a bar lifts the fabric up just as the needle is about to pierce the fabric. This tends to pull light-weight fabrics out of alignment, making the hem a little crooked unless you really fight it. All in all, I would not buy this machine again nor recommend it. Pay a little more and get a machine that is more robust and will work better.

5Simplicity SA200 Pioneer II
By A Customer
I purchased this for Christmas for my adult daughter who had previously never shown much interest in sewing, but had mentioned recently that she might liked to have a machine for home decorating projects, i.e. curtains, pillows or whatever. I was basically looking for something inexpensive and simple for the occasional craft project and mending and this one seemed to fit the bill (although I am sure it would be fine for more frequent use and more complicated projects as well!) I had looked at another machine that was $$$ less but rejected it immediatley when I realized it did not have a treadle to make it stop/go with your foot - it had a hand switch on the machine for that which did not appeal to me at all - sometimes you do need both hands to guide the fabric or whatever, plus reviews of that product pronounced it to be a hunk of junk! This one does have the foot-treadle, and I did set up the machine to try it out and it worked great and was just what I was looking for.

4Good for beginners
By A Customer
I recently bought this so I could make some window treatments and things for around the house. I had not sewn since Home-Ec class in junior high. This machine is easy to use and works well. it even has a buttonhole function. Directions on how to thread the machine and wind the bobbin are fairly easy to understand although I did have to read them a couple of times since I was unfamiliar with sewing.

4CAMERA INFO HERE
By coolreviewer1
I agree with many of the reviews (buttons poorly placed, keyboard arguably not faster than Graffiti, excellent screen color, etc.), and love the device in general; but would like to give you more info about the camera to help choose between the V and non-V models. I have owned a 3.2 megapixel digital camera, and the Handspring expansion Eyemodule camera for comparison. The CLIE camera takes descent color photos. They appear particularly nicely on the small PDA screen, and can easily take photos in good light (mandatory, no flash), especially of close objects (within 5-6 feet). Great for quick photos of people (can even take mini size and attach to address files!), kids, etc. At a distance, slightly grainy for sure, but I have photographed my house, my car, and even my flagpole with good success. Again, bright light is required for a good shot. Can take MANY shots without wearing down the battery (exactly how many i do not know, but would guess dozens and dozens), and they are all thumbnailed in tiny size in the PDA program to allow access, review. Can import/export to Memory Stick, and I have a 128MB Memory STick in the slot [price] and can store hundreds of color photos. Uses: I have a friend househunting who uses his to take photos of each home. Take car wreck damage photos, take people you meet at a bar photos, take road sign photos for directions, a quickpic for on-line sales, covertly snap people you work with to show the spouse ("this is Jennie that I work with...see, she ain;t so cute"), etc. The fact that you have the camera all the time is a major plus! Can change effects, can take B/W pics, can change lighting sensitivity, can even do some (useless) fun picture effects (solar, negatives, etc.). All photos can be modified on the CLIE with PaintWorks (included) right on the CLIE to add funny gestures, change some colors, and such (but does not crop, enlarge etc.) Negative: unlike my Eyemodule Handspring that can hotsync the images to a PC, Sony has decided to make us buy a Memory Stick and Reader/Writer ([price]; the knock-off reader only is [price]) to get the photos from CLIE, to Stick, to PC. Once on the PC can modify with any software program you use, as these are JPEG images. Can email, print hard copy and the like. The Sony Memory Stick reader/writer is also very helpful, but I do not beleive required, to get your CD collection on Memory Stick MP3s for CLIE listening. So, bottom line, you will be spending another [price] dollars beyond the PDA price to get a large size Memory stick and the reader, count on it. I personally use the camera every few days, which is more than I can say for my digicam that I never seem to have when I need it. For the extra [price] bucks, the camera, in my humble opinion, is very worthwhile. Happy shooting!

4Sony Clie PEG-NR70v Plus and Minus
By A Customer
The new peg-nr70v is an excellent machine. While this review lists the plus and minus features to help you make your choice overall I rate this device as the top PDA I've owned.

Pro1) Beautiful Screen. The best on the market2) The dropping of the silkscreen area for a software replacement is an excellent design (Sony did not lead the way here however) and smacks of many future possibilities.3) The software graffiti area allows for instant feedback of text entry mistakes.4) The magnesium case is rugged and attractive. It will scratch though.5) The clamshell design is a breakthrough. Anyone who has a PDA needs some kind of case or cover. In my experience these things are always a pain. No longer.6) The camera and mp3 player are nice additions and send a clear message about sony's business model.7) The keyboard works but I am faster with graffiti.8) The rechargeable battery has excellent life. I recharge it every three or four days even though the indicator still shows full.

Cons1) The traditional hardkeys (date, phone, task, note) are really badly placed. With the screen rotated you cannot get to them at all. It would have been "easy" to incorporate these buttons as soft keys in the new graffiti area (or just below). This is my biggest negative.

2)The pen is too skinny. This is the skinniest pda pen going and it can get tiring to hold it.

3) The return button on the side of the device is tiny and difficult to depress. Sony got it right in earlier Clie models I don't know what happened here.

Wishlist: loose the keyboard and add wireless email. I just don't use the keyboard enough and the additional space provided by its absence is more than enough for Sony to add additional small miracles.

5Your New Best Device
By cinemagirl
Once, years ago, I had proclaimed, "I could never use a PDA; I'd always be worried about running out of batteries or losing the information. Good old paper organizers are enough for me." That was then. A while later, while sorting through all my Post-It notes and hand "archiving" them into the back pocket of my fabric organizer, I decided to look into PDAs. Couldn't I keep a typed list of things to do without straining for hours to decipher my hasty handwriting on yellow bits of paper? Wouldn't it be nice to put an organizer that weighed a few ounces into my bag instead of the one I had which was quickly reaching the weight of a brick? Being a student, I wanted something reliable that also scored exceptionally well in the "coolness" section. My first inclination was to go with a Palm Pilot - after all, they're everywhere, right? Palm this, Palm that. Celebrities swear by them according to a few magazines, ads show off shiny new models all the time, and "Palm Pilot" seems to have become synonymous with the word "PDA." That's it, I had decided. I'm going with a Palm m100 or m105 (a decision purely determined by price); the next day, I said, "That's it, I'm going with the Handspring Visor (the decision purely determined by the cool case colors).

Little did I know that seeing a PDA on the web is very different from seeing a PDA in person. Like supermodels and magazine covers, most photos of PDAs seem to go through this "retouching" phase thanks to Adobe. When I saw the Palms, I was immediately disappointed; the screens were barely visible to me. When I saw the Handsprings, I was again disappointed; the supposedly vibrant "colors" turned out to be rather dull and unimpressive. After asking others for their opinions, I was told that the Sony Clié was the best way to go. The Sony what? I had never even heard that Sony was in the PDA business. A sales guy showed me the Sony Cliés - it was instant love. I first purchased the Sony T-615, a perfectly competent model that did everything I hoped it would; until, that is, the NR-70V came out. As someone who loves the latest and greatest, I traded it in for the newest model. A built-in keyboard? Better resolution? A camera? I was sold! Of course, there were those who jealously defended their Palm Pilots, insisting that Palms were the best in this and that, that Sonys can't even touch what they had. Well, I was already taken by the Sony. I now laugh that I went from the... 150 m100 or m105 to the... NR-70V. What a leap!

I had just returned from a summer vacation to Thailand. I always use a vacation as a diagnostic test on how effective an electronic device is. Why? Because while at home I am gingerly handling the device, careful not to scratch it, afraid of wasting the batteries, terrified of using it too much; while on vacation, however, thrown into, ironically, hectic situations (handling airline schedules, quickly converting currencies in line at the store, checking world times before flights, bringing up dictionaries to haggle with store owners), I am forced to break out the device to apply it to life situations. In Thailand, the PDA never left my side. Carefully protected in its Brando leather case, I used it for everything (see parentheses above). I even took pictures with it. Be careful to note, however, that the camera on this device is not top quality; they're pictures you take for fun, not ones you take to print out brilliant photos later. So, if you do want to take digital pictures on vacation, be sure to bring a capable camera. However, there's great value in having a camera with you all the time. The camera is great for taking quick photos when you don't have the time to whip out your digital camera (or even when you forget to bring it). "I wish I had a camera with me!" Well, now you do.

A variety of programs can also make your NR-70V even more useful. BugMe! is a program that is designed like Post-It notes (you know, the pieces of paper I used to have all over the place pre-PDA); you just tap the icon on your device, bring up a new "sheet," and use your stylus to write right on the screen in your own handwriting. A great program for those who don't want to use Graffiti or type on the cumbersome mini-keyboard. Another program called Energy Dimmer is great for automatically dimming the backlight of your PDA after a number of seconds. If you are going to use this PDA for typing up notes, keeping the backlight on will drain the batteries quickly (along with using intensive programs such as games). Download this program so it will dim when it is idle, thus saving you batteries and the trouble of turning the device on and off every few minutes.

After visiting three airports, countless stores and restaurants, and many scenic sights, I have to say that this is the best PDA on the market. There are several good reviews out there that contain more technical jargon than I've provided here; I just hope this review has been helpful for those seeking a more "day-to-day" review. Some more specific points and tips to help you decide:

* The button placements are not ideal. They are awkward, requiring one to reach in and push into the heart of the PDA.

* The built-in keyboard is not very user friendly. The buttons are small; not much of a relief from using the Graffiti. It is a pain to capitalize and use numbers. I recommend getting the newly released PEGA-KB11 keyboard. It's a fold-out and full-sized keyboard that allows you to type as though you are on a laptop.

* If you want to use the camera instead of a digital camera (meaning these are just fun photos, not to be printed at great quality), use it with plenty of light, as there is no flash included. I took photos of some people in my tour group - one in a dark restaurant, the other in a bright restaurant - the difference is great. You can take pictures of people with this and insert the thumbnail photo in your address book.

* The MP3 player, in my opinion, is not very useful. First of all, you need a special white memory stick (different from the blue ones) to store the files. The price can add up. The design of this PDA is also a bit bizarre, so it's not really convenient to use it as a music player.

* The screen resolution is the best on the market right now. Some PDA screens will become almost unreadable with the backlight off; the Sony is still readable (with some reasonable ambient light) without the backlight.

* Be sure you can live with the clamshell design. Many people find this design awkward and unnecessary. Personally, I think it gives the PDA a "mini laptop" feel and plenty of versatility. You can sit it open like a laptop, flip the screen over like a spiral notebook, et cetera.

* If you don't want to use the cradle to charge or hotsync, purchase a cable that'll allow you to charge and hotsync via your computer (using the USB slot).

In conclusion, the Sony Clié NR-70V is a great buy if you know it'll be compatible with your needs. It is always with me, and many programs and add-ons can enhance the experience. This is your all-in-one device: an organizer, a camera, a currency converter, a laptop, a photo gallery, a subway map, your international watch, a music player, a remote control, a movie player, etc. After having this for a few months, I can't believe I ever preferred a paper organizer over this. This is definitely everything you want it to be.

4Attention Unhappy Customers!
By Leha Carpenter
I ordered my Donvier a couple of weeks ago, in spite of some negative reviews, because I've used this type of ice cream maker before and I like the hand cranking, no-salt method. It's also small and easy to store. Since I received my Donvier I have experienced every problem listed by a negative reviewer for this product, and I have found the single solution to all of them. When I got the Donvier I made some ice cream right away and it came out perfect--yay! Then I thought, hmm, better with a little less sugar. So I tried it again. Disaster! The mixture got all slushy, with too-large ice crystals, and it never really froze. This sounded suspiciously like one of the negative reviews I'd read, but since the first batch was great, I tried again. WORSE! Not even any ice crystals this time. The Donvier I now possessed could not freeze an ice cube. I started thinking "defective product," and was considering sending it back. But then I remembered reading recently that self-defrosting freezers often change temperatures in order to keep frost from building up, and I wondered if it wasn't a temperature issue. As an experiment, I lowered my freezer temperature setting by 2 notches, and then refroze the Donvier. When I went to make ice cream with the same mix that would not freeze at all before, suddenly it was freezing way too fast! The handle became stuck, and the lid kept popping off! Too cold, Goldylocks! So I set the freezer to the middle setting. Now my Donvier performs just like all those ones with the five star reviews. Ahhhh.Lesson for the consumer: If you are going to use a Donvier, be prepared to manage your freezer temperature. You can get an inexpensive freezer thermometer, or experiment like I did.Lesson for Donvier (and the reason I knocked a star off of your wonderful product): This needs to be in the documentation. It's not enough to tell people that they should have their freezer at below zero, because everyone assumes theirs is already. You need to put a paragraph in your little book that talks about the ideal temperature--not too cold, not too warm--and how to find it. Good docs make a five star product.

5Nothin' but Ice Cream!
By Jeffrey Lemkin
Caution: Rave ReviewWhy can't I get decent chocolate chip ice cream? That's what I want to know. Chocolate chip, plain, unvarnished and perfect, is a rapidly vanishing breed in the highly segmented world of commercial premium ice cream.

The Donvier lets you create the fresh flavors you want, when you want them. So, I get my chocolate chip with rich veins of beautiful Ghiradelli's milk chocolate chips and just a few semi-sweet for the heck of it. My wife's favorite is fresh peach and that's what she gets. You know what - in season, it tastes very much like a beautifully ripe peach! Only better.

Freeze the container overnight. Dump in the ingredients. Pop the lid on. Stir. Wait a bit. Stir some more. Repeat for ... minutes or so. Yesterday, I made a quart of ice cream while I was in the midst of preparing dinner for six - it was just no problem. The ice cream got such rave reviews from our guests that I was troubled at how easy it was to make.

Chocolate chip TIP: Wait until it's partly frozen up before you dump in the chips - they don't all settle down to the bottom that way.

We've had our Donvier for almost ten years and have never had a problem. Hey, what could go wrong? it's a metal bowl with a plastic handle that you turn inside it. I suppose you could break the handle with an excess of joie de vivre, but they're pretty cheap to replace. Ah, you ask, but is it easy to use? Well, turning a crank in a bowl is a fundamental human activity - *anybody* can do it!

No more need you buy Ben & Jerry's chocolate chip peanut turbot ice cream at 3 bucks a pint or so. The Donvier makes it just too easy to make incredibly good, fresh ice cream yourself.

Buy one. Now. You won't regret it.

5I LOVE IT!!!
By A Customer
I have had this machine for a few years but just got into REALLY making wonderful icecream with it. My kids, husband and I love the ice cream we make with this machine. My husband asked me (after tasting his favorite flavor), "You made this icecream, NO, really, is it really homemade?" We have had friends over for dinner and I made some homemade ice cream. They just raved about it....they all want a Donvier too. I purchased this one because it is easy to use and produces FANTASTIC results. My kids love to be able to be part of the process so they, too, can say they can make delicious ice cream. (I think part of what MAKES the machine is a REALLY good recipe). You can buy several different ice cream books but my favorite recipes is from Ben & Jerry's. 2 eggs, 3/4 cup sugar, 1 c milk (I use Half & Half), 2 cups heavy cream. (this is just the base for many different flavors you can make). Beat the eggs for 2 mins, until light and fluffy, add sugar a little at a time, beat approx 1 more min. Then add Half & Half, and cream. Now add your favorite flavoring...like 1/4 tsp peppermint oil (and a few drops of green food coloring)for mint chocolate chip ice cream. Always use chilled ingredients. If you just wanted vanilla then you would just add approx 1-1 1/2 tsp of vanilla. (I put this in the fridge to set for about 1/2 - 1 hr but you don't have to if you are using chilled ingredients.) When I am ready I add the mixture to the machine and start making icecream. Near the end of the freezing process I add shaved Ghiradelli chocolate and mix it in. Voila! Wonderful, creamy, tasty mint chip icecream! The icecream is ready in about 20 mins but at this point it will be pretty soft, I usually let it set for anywhere from about another 20 or 30 mins because I like mine a little harder. It is THAT easy, just make your icecream base...add your favorite flavorings and freeze!

5Time saver for floor layout
By Joe Kepler
Installing ceramic tile requires popping a lot of chalk lines. With the AccuSquare Pro I only have to pop one line. I use the AccuSquare Pro to check all my other measurements. The beams are bright and easy to see. It is sturdy (Aluminum) and has a great case for protection. I tried two other lazer layout tools and this is the best.

5Well thought out tool that works very good
By W. A. Freeman Jr.
I recently received the Levelite AccuSquare Pro and immediately put it to work laying a ceramic tile floor. It is very helpful in keeping my chalk line visible with laser light. It is well made with a sturdy cast aluminum body. I like everything about it but the price...and the rarely used "C" batteries it uses.

5Good laser square
By BenQ
This laser square comes in handy when trying to layout a room for tile. The quality of the laser seems good. Heavy duty aluminum cast body holds 2 separate lasers pointed at 90 deg. The beams aren't as bright as I would like them to be, but is workable indoors for distances up to 25 ft without a target and extending lines. This is generally not a problem since most of our work is residential and not large areas. For larger areas, you could use the unit with the target to get points and then snap chalk lines. I can't see how this unit would be of much use in bright outdoor light. Technology is improving lasers, so perhaps we will see a stronger one soon that would be suitable for larger areas and outdoor use. We have 2 of these lasers and have not had any problems after a year of use.

4Works great when its not in the shop for repairs
By Woodmeister
I bought two of these impact guns, when they work they are awesome. Problem is I have had to send both of them in for repairs. Repair process is so, so, not the best in speed, that is why I bought a second one, tired of waiting for repair. Beats the heck out of the Dewalt I was using before, that gun could not tighten a nut to save its own you know what, I always had to re-torque by hand, it would never tighten to its rated specs. This gun tightens them up like its supposed to, no need to double check all the time. The warranty is good and the only reason its not getting 5 stars is due to the fact it broke way too soon. However, I was using these every day in a very heavy use environment with very large nuts and bolts, like over 2 inches! I would definitely prefer this for cost over the other options, the Hitachi's are nice but very expensive, this one is reasonable and does a good job.
