5A parent's dream!!!
By Todd Olson
As a person with a background in engineering, I feel somewhat qualified to write a review on this product. This toy is engaging, creative, non-destructive and non-violent. On top of that, it's one of the few that you may actually find yourself addicted too as well! What more could a parent ask for?

A cross between Legos, model trains and remote control vehicles it is an intoxicating mix of motion and construction that most children find hard to put down.

It begins with the purchase of the The Works or Monorail Start Set. After spending a little time (about an hour) to put the set together according to the plans, you'll spend much more time scooping up the little balls with your remote control trucks and placing them into the conveyor, where they are lifted through a series of chutes into dispensers to repeat the process.

But that's not the best part. As your set begins to grow, your children can do many more things - all of which seem to engage the child more. The RC Elevator, Down-A-Vator, Construction World, and other vehicles and sets add immensely to the enjoyment.

I give the product a slightly reduced durability rating as my 6 year old managed to break one of the tabs attached to one of the chutes during normal construction, but to Rokenbok's credit they have a lifetime no questions asked replacement guarantee for any piece.

All in all as your set grows expect to spend $500+ on it depending on how big or tall you wish to go, but it is durable enough for most children and will last their entire childhood if played with correctly.

5Best Purchase I made
By Satisfied Mom
I bought this item for my 8y son last christmas, he is still playing with it faithfully and has even saved up his money to expand on the product. He loves it. This year santa is expanding on his set. If you have a child who seems to get bored with toys easy, then this is the toy for you, you'll never regret getting it.

5Lots of fun for all ages!
By Michelle Adams
My husband and I enjoy playing with this as much as our son does. The rokenbok website is very useful and has great plans for building new projects. I agree with the other reviewers in the need for buying more than the starter set. The additional pieces are necesary for extended play. I have not had a problem with pieces breaking, but I think that this a toy to be treated gently. This toy is great for developing problem solving skills.

5Worth every penny!!!
By Todd J. Groller
I purchased this receiver after not being satisfied with my ...Marantz digital receiver. A friend of mine bought a Yamaha receiver shortly after I purchased my Marantz receiver, and his Yamaha blew me away. My Marantz had a thudy sound when listening to CD's. I thought it might be my speakers so I bought a very good pair of speakers, but it sounded no better. So now four years later I decided to shop around for a new receiver. I checked out many top of the line receivers, but when it came down to sound for the $$$ the Yamaha receivers could not be beat. This receiver sounds fabulous listening to cd's as well as watching movies. The power put out is simply awesome, as well as you have all the inputs and outputs you could possibly need, plus you have the ability to hook up two sets of main speakers. You will also find this receiver simple to operate, and a great veriety of sound fields to choose from, (jazz club, rock concert, pro logic 1&2, spectale, sci fi, tv sports, just to name a few). The only downside to the HTR-5560 is that there is no phono input, you need to buy the [more expensive] model to get it, or you can do what I did and buy a ...stereo pre amp for your turntable. All in all this is a great receiver, if you buy it you will get plenty of bang for your buck, and you won't be disappointed.

4Quality vs. Options
By David Dickenson
As a long time user of Yamaha and Sony products, the choice between the Yamaha HTR-5560 and the Sony STR-DE985 was not easy. Both have similar base functions, specs and price. The Sony has the "bells and whistles", where the Yamaha is known for their high quality of sound.I decided to go with the Yamaha and I'm glad I did. After going through the instructions, I found many more options then are listed for this unit.I also found I could live without some of the Sony extras, like multi-room output, phono audio in and the remote unit macros. The Yamaha sound is excellent and this unit has plenty of high quality power. It also has more digital ins and outs. The reason I rated this receiver a 4 star is I would like to have a 3 or 5 band equalizer built in,a remote that has at least the main buttons illuminated for ease of use in darkened rooms and sub woofer out that has adjustable cross-over settings. So, the choice is quality vs. options.I chose quality.

4Competent unit, with the best looks and the worst manual and
By hans j heer
First the Pros:The Yamaha receiver HTR5560 is truly one of the best looking units. Simple lines, a minimum amount of buttons, timeless, as these units have been for years (I did upgrade from a none digital RXV1070 unit)To my surprise, Yamaha has kept its sturdy aluminum front plate and the uncompromising good solid feel of every button on the front panel.

The sound is truly remarkable. A huge improvement over the old none digital $900.00 unit. Dolby digital is absolutely incredible compared to the old Pro Logic and the DSP is still as much fun to play with as it used to be, however, Yamaha left one of my favorite settings out, the Church environment.

Very good designed speaker cable terminations, which make it virtually impossible to install a wire that would touch the next terminal and short it out.

Room for Improvements:The user MANUAL is still bad, actually it got worse. The print is not as sharp and smaller, making it harder to read the almost invisible identifications of connectors in dimmed light (hey, who has the time to set it up during the day?)The manual does not have diagrams with all the connections for the different possible set-ups. The diagrams do not show if you can hook up a DVD player with S-Video and continue with RCA to your old TV monitor. Also, you might find in your DVD manual the answer to why your unit never switches to Dolby Digital. Yes, you need to hook it up over an optical cable. The manual does not explain enough what all these different decoders do how they work and what the hardware andconnection requirements are.Don't get me wrong, all the info is in there, but you will find a lot of important information just by chance. And, if this is the only place where Yamaha did the cost cutting, thumbs up.

The plane front panel requires that a bunch of operations have to be done by pushing buttons several times until you get to the setting desired. As a result, you do more with the REMOTE CONTROL. Unfortunately this unit is truly the weakest point on this receiver. Small buttons, no illuminated buttons, no LCD and not enough buttons for all the functions. As a result you are still going down the menu hierarchy for settings you might change for every CD or DVD. This is a pain in the neck and cuts down on the fun. Any of the aftermarket remote controls for $15.oo-20.00 can do a much better job, except for the DSP functions. I will try to get one from a RXV730 Yamaha receiver, the next step up from this one.

If you still use a record player, you are out of luck, or need to buy a pre-amp. There is no PHONO INPUT.

Also, no ON SCREEN audio information.

A word of caution when shopping: The features listed buy most sellers have tons of mistakes; the worst of all is the Tweeter web site (North East Region). According to Tweeter, this unit is almost identical to the RXV730, a $599.00 unit. Crutchfield seamed to have a much more accurate list of features and has top-notch photos of all angles and the remote.

Still, I think it is still a very good unit, sounds wonderful, very good price and it will still look good in ten years, just as my 12 year old RXV1070 does today.

5Wow!
By Ricky G. Turner
I wanted to replace my 2 year old Sony STR545 receiver for my home theater / stereo system and thought the price was good on the Yamaha 5540. I was stunned at how much of an improvement in sound quality and quantity the Yamaha made. The sound is so much fuller and substantial when playing both the dvds and cds. It's an extremely up to date receiver with Dolby Prologic II and Digital 6.1. I have both SACD and DVD-Audio so I wanted a receiver with the analog jacks which it does have. As others have said don't let the 75 watts listed concern you as the sound is much, much stronger and louder than my old 100 watt Sony ever was. I love this little baby!

4Excellent under $500 receiver
By A Customer
Brand new 2002 model. Clean, Crisp, sound. Just look at all the reviews of Yamaha receivers...most all of them are rated from 4.3 to 5.0. Impressive. This model is all of the above and more. Wanted the HTR 5560 but thought I don't really need all those "bells and whistles". Just wanted a excellent receiver that will give me the decoding plus enough extras to choose from. I don't need a 1,000 settings just enough for me to enjoy the movies...remember speakers make the system.

Strengths:

Clean, crisp, sound. Very polish. phantom rear center a plus without adding that extra rear channel.

Weaknesses:Limited input/output in the back. All you need are the audio input/output. All video are directly to the T.V. (best connections are always directly to the T.V. anyways...if you want switching buy the HTR 5560. You'll pay extra though.

4Quality Sound
By A Customer
Replaced my 100 Watt Kenwood Surround receiver with the Yamaha HTR-5540 receiver, and what a difference. The quality of the sound is incredible. This unit offers a optical input from my DVD player which really boosts power and quality. This unit has as much power as my 100 Watt Kenwood. I consider this an UPGRADE from the Kenwood. The sound options are numerous and the installation was a snap.

5Incredible and Affordable!
By zwaudz
I purchased this receiver to complement my recent purchase of a JVC XV-FA900BK 7-disc DVD player, an older model 200-CD player, a 6-CD player, a VCR and a WEBTV browser. At the time I bought these 2 new JVC items, the reviews for the 7-disc DVD player were 2 stars out of 5, based on only 6 reviews (a bad choice if you believe reviews), and 5 stars out of 5 (based on only 1 review) for the receiver (again, not something on which to base a purchase). I opted, however, to base my choice on my past experience with the JVC brand, rather than on the small number of reviews which made up these ratings. The consistency of quality of JVC products has proven itself to me on at least 5 separate occasions in the past, so I followed my instincts. This proved to be the right decision. The capabilities and versatility of both the 7-disc DVD player and this receiver, especially considering the price tags, is nothing less than astounding! The receiver can be fine tuned, through it's multitude of internal adjustments, to perform and sound fantastic, in any size or shape of room and any furnishings (excluding, of course, a large auditorium). These internal adjustments cover an entire array of up to 5 separate speaker stations-- or as few as 2-- and also are adjustable with respect to speaker size and distance of separation as well as tonality and crossover. WOW! For the price, I'm certain I've not heard a better audio/video receiver-- not one! Enough said. Both units get the top rating from me!!!

    By L. Pomaville
Although these towels are thinner than conventional toxic chemical laden cleaning towels, they clean just as well. I like the fact that they're natural so I can use them on my children's hands AND a table top, chair seat, counter top, etc. etc. etc.

I love these for wiping down my son's jumperoo and wooden toys. It's also great for cleaning his highchair and our kitchen table. The orange scent is light and freshing. The towelettes are very durable and can be rinsed and reused if necessary (although I haven't). Worth the money b/c you really only need one at a time!!

    By D.Aquilino
The Order Remover certainly works as advertised, and it really deserves to be on your "have to have" list. It really works and has no obnoxious smell as some others do.My major complaint has nothing to do with this great product. It revolves around the accuracy of the photo used. None of the bottles come with a spray attachment, none of them. I urge Amazon to revise the picture used, sans spray top.

    5This stuff is magic!!
    By D. Miller
We care for two incontinent elders and also have a dog who occasionally causes some kind of mayhem on the carpeting. This enzyme spray is totally magic. I hate to pay to have carpets cleaned and have to deal with the expense, the dampness, and smell, and unknown chemicals from some company.I sprayed some hopeless, year-old urine spots that had been scrubbed with other spot removers unsuccessfully. What do you know? The spots disappeared. They don't disappear instantly--the enzymes have to gobble them up or something. It takes a few days. Just dampen the stain with the spray and leave it. No scrubbing needed. Come back a few days later and the organic matter stain is gone. Eaten up. Magic!!

5THE product to buy if you have pets
    By J. Rogers
I have two small dogs and they liked to out-do each other in marking the house! I tried all the standard pet stain & odor removers (all different brands of pre-moistened wipes, sprays, foams, etc.) and nothing worked except put more chemicals on my carpets.I bought this at a local store and it worked better than expected! Just clean up excess mess and then apply this cleaner and leave on for 1-5 minutes. You are supposed to blot up the excess cleaner but there were honestly times where I forgot to go back and finish the cleanup, and that was okay too.All stains come up, and I assume all odor too as the dogs have not re-marked those areas. So they've decreased their markings and the carpets show no spots. I'm forever sold on this product! Now, the fun in trying to find it online as it's no longer sold at my local pet store!

5So far, So good.
By A. E. Cesaro
I spent a lot of time researching radar detectors before purchasing this one. I wanted to make sure I got the best one for the job before I laid out roughly [$]. I've been using this detector for a little over a month and so far, I've had no problems. There are very few false alarms. The only time I have trouble is if I'm parked right in front of an automatic door. And even in this case you can turn off X-band so that it won't chirp. One of the greatest things about this detector is the owners manual, it walks you through all of the options and diagrams radar scenarios to help inform the user of what to avoid. When you mail in your registration you get notified when upgrades become available.

The only problem I had with buying a radar detector is that there was not enough information on individual models. I hope this helps you make an informed choice. Enjoy.

Basic Features:You can turn of x-band, k-band and laser by choosing one of the 3 city options. There's the highway mode as well, or my favorite, Autoscan, which will detect all radar, but only report strong signals, not weak x-band signal which is most likely a door opener. Autoscan mode lets you drive by shopping centers without having to change from highway to city. The detector has 360 degree Laser detection and 180 degrees detection for all other bands. The detector is sensitive enough to pick up laser and other band signals off of other cars to give you more advanced notice.

Advanced Features:

You can have it tell you exactly what frequency each signal is in hertz, not just what band. You can set it to be a voltage meter and it reads how much power is in your battery. You can also adjust start-up modes, if you don't like hearing it cycle-through all of the different bands, you can change that option. This detector also comes with cloaking capabilities which make it invisible to police radar-detector sensors.

Safety Features:This radar detector not only detects highway safety signs, it will also report a message from the safety sign. The message will scroll through on your detector at the pace you specify.

Convenience Features:The volume is adjustable, from 0-9 so you can adjust to hear over your radio. You can auto-mute, where it only chirps the first time it senses radar and not incessantly, great for driving with sleeping passengers. You can also select and adjust the brightness of the LED read-out at the push of a button.

Mounting Features:You can mount this detector with velcro, a clip, suction cups, or by adding rubber feet to the bottom. All of the mounting options come separate so you can choose how you want it. You can also mount it upside down, and by changing the read-out setting, you will be able to read the LED screen right side up. This detector also comes with a shorter curled cord and a 10ft straight cord, an extra fuse for the cigarette adapter plug and a travel case which holds all of the accessories.

5BEL 985 ROCKS!
By A Customer
I have long searched for a radar detector to do what it says, and I have finally found it. The Bel 985!. I have owned numerous radar detectors in the past (Bel 970, Escort 8500, uniden, whistler), but none have had all the necessary features to be a complete radar detector. Well I have to admit that the Bel 970 was very good but falsed a little too much, and the escort 8500 was good also. I thought I was upgrading to the escort 8500 but found out the range was same as the Bel 970. (I conducted side by side comparisons). The Bel 985 has excellent range, better than the Escort and older Bel, it has the best anti-falsing software I have ever seen, and it has voice (so you can keep your eye on the road). But if you think I am bashing the other products, check out Speedzones.com latest report (Jul 02). It compares all the major brands. Both the Bel and Valentine were pretty much comparable. The key here is that the Bel 985 is [a lot]less!. The only area that I see where the escort 8500 does better than the Bel 985 is the over the hill test. By the way Speedzones.com is probably the most unbiased site out there. It has actual police officers testing the radar detectors and using the radar guns like they would in everday enforcement. I hope this review will help you to choose the proper radar detector. By the way I generally pick up radar in REAL World traps at over a mile away. That generally gives me about 50 seconds of warning time at 70mph(that's plenty).

4After 2 weeks of use
By Rick V
I live in Phoenix but I assume most other cities are similar when it comes to radar detectors. This thing picks up all kinds of nonsense when driving through town. You can turn off individual bands, but as far as i know you cant turn off certain frequencies within a band. I pick up 24.050 on K as a false alarm constantly and wish i could just put it on perminant ignore. There are a few others, but this one stands out big time. Its not really that big of a deal because its a level 1 type alert, meaning it beeps about once every 2 seconds.. but it is irritating to her it going off all the time and you know its a false alert, i tend to reach for the mute button every time I'm near a major intersection.

As for the real alerts its done a real good job so far. When it picks up real radar signals it goes absolutely nuts, so you can easily tell the difference between a false or a weak signal and a strong radar clock on or near you. The easiest ones its spotted so far are the signs that have the "your speed" on them, my detector picked it up from a mile away. The other one that it gets real easy are the photo radar vans, it picked 2 of them up so far well in advance, the closest one was 1/2 a mile away.

Police signals are slightly different because most of the time they are not on, they normally just hit a couple cars here and there so you are depending on other people in front of you to bounce the signal back in time so your detector can pick it up. Radar detectors are pretty much useless if there is nobody around you that can be hit first to warn you.. if you are the only thing there, you most likely will not get a warning before your clocked. That said, i've picked up about 6 legitimate cop cars on the highway and in the city, every time the detector had very high signal ratings and they were all within 1/4 of a mile from me.

The only thing i wish were different about this detetector would be the ability to turn off individual frequencies and be able to tone down the lower level alerts to be either much quiter or less frequent in tone beats..
