5The only choice in graphics tablets
By Anthony Peak
The Wacom Intuos2 6x8 is the tablet I use to create all my Painter sketches. It's actually 13.5" x 10.2" x .6" in size. 6x8 is only the usable area. It has an impressive 1024 pressure levels, though even when using programs without pressure levels such as oekaki boards online, the difference between a tablet and a mouse is outstanding. However, when using programs like Painter that use the pressure, it's so well implemented it's second nature. You'll easily adjust to how hard to push with the stylus.

I'm not 100% sure how the technology works, but the pressure seems to have nothing to do with pushing on the tablet itself. Instead, the pressure seems to be done in the stylus, based on how hard the tip of the stylus is being pushed. This is great, and extends the life of the tablet dramatically. It feels very solid and durable. I honestly believe it will last for years and years.

Not only does it respond to the slightest touch, but it also responds to hovering above the tablet. Many people ask "how will I know where the cursor will appear when I press on the tablet?" Well, there's an easy answer to that. When you hover the stylus above the tablet, up to a good inch or so, the cursor still fully responds without actually marking. This makes it effortless to move around the screen and have the greatest of accuracy.

I myself am I die hard mouse user, I still prefer to use my mouse for work in Photoshop, simply for greater control. Most tablet users I know do the same; they use the mouse for some tasks and the tablet for others. Many, including myself, use both at once. Don't expect to throw your mouse out the window.

A lot of people get their first tablet and reject it quickly because it's not exactly how they expect. However, stick with it. Soon enough you'll be using it without any effort at all. And I know the sticker price is high, but I believe one good tablet like the Intuos2 will not only physically last for years, but will stay somewhat current and up to date for many years as well. Although I'm sure bigger and better will come, I don't see older tablets becoming worthless any time soon.

The Wacom name is flawless. Wacom is without question the leader of graphic tablets. A little competition wouldn't hurt; prices are quite high at the moment. However, the qualities of the tablets are wonderful.

The last issue to consider is what size to get. As I said at the start, 6x8 is only the active size. The tablet itself is quite larger. I personally use my tablet on a pullout keyboard tray, and the 6x8 tablet fits perfectly. Also, some people actually prefer the smaller tablets because a smaller movement gives them larger control. There are stories of people paying upwards of $600 for huge tablets, then being highly disappointed because it's too large. Remember, the longer the stroke you must make the more chance your lines will end up wiggly. It's really a personal matter, but for me 6x8 was a perfect fit of size and price.

All in all, I have nothing bad to say about the Intuos2 except just maybe the price. It's spiffy, it's accurate, and it's exactly what it should be.

5Intuos2 is a very classy product
By Mary-Ann A.
I never used a tablet before, so I had a few reservations about dropping so much money and going straight to the 6x8 size. In the end, I was more concerned about not feeling cramped and not having to upgrade from a 4x5 or 4x6 later on. On all counts, I have no regrets and I am extremely happy with the Intuos2. Not only is it sleekly beautiful and feels well-made, it also sets up easily. In a very short time, the indicator light at the top was glowing amber, and I had the free software programs loaded and opened Corel Painter Classic. I pressed the very comfortable and sturdy pen to the tablet and the light changed to green. Then I was off and running, trying colored chalks and watercolors and getting used to the strange, new act of using a tablet to draw, and I have to say it became "natural" very quickly. I made a watercolor painting of a wolf within 2 hours of carrying the box through the door! I can't say enough about how comfortable to use and responsive in operation the Intuos2 is. It is very accurate, and there's no skipping, lags, or non-registering pen strokes, or any type of responsiveness issue. The mouse works for any ordinary task in other programs (as long as it's on the tablet), but I'm keeping my trackball mouse connected to use for programs other than Painter and Photoshop. Although I have no previous tablet experience to compare it to, I feel this product is excellent quality and I'm very happy with it. I recommend it highly, with no reservations at all.

4great tablet, unsatisfied with the mouse
By mcoopers
I was so excited when I received the tablet. Although it is quite expensive,it is a must-have tool for any digital artist. I used the graphire(512 levels of pressure) before, however I don't feel much difference with Intuos2 (1024 levels).

The included software is great. The driver setup is also excellent. It allows you to set the button to perform different functions in different program.

The pen is also very comfortable to use. It came with few spare pen tips too. But the mouse is disappointing. The hard side edges is not comfortable to use. It is not as smooth as using an ordinary mouse.

I will give 5 stars if it have a better mouse and ... cheaper.

4Great value
By Ksc
This is a great value amp. I have had a few of these over the years in various vehicles and have always been pleased with the performance especially considering they are a fraction of the price of a major brand!!

3Decent amp for the price
By J. Sala
this certainly is a decent amp for the price.i am using it with an older OEM radio and am using the Hi-level inputs rather than the rca's (Low level) that most people would use (if i had a newer headunit, i'd use the rca's too), so without using the shielded rca cables, i do get quite a bit of engine noise (whine dependant on engine revs even though i did route the power wires on the opposite side of the car from the speaker wires)...the resolve? crank it up louder...lol!another thing, it is also quite large, altho i did check its dimensions before i bought it, it still needs a good bit of space to mount it.and even though i have good speakers that can definitely handle the power this amp delivers, i had to play around with the gain controls to get it so that it wouldnt clip (distort) the bass at high volume.there are certainly much better amps out there, but i wasnt going to spend a small fortune on one and just wanted more volume from my factory radio...it does the job.

I didn't think it would be so small yet it is still powerful. I have it hooked up to my horn tweeters to give them that extra edge and they are way past the edge. Terrific product

5Wonderful on my G4 PowerMac!
By skunktrain
No problems with this LCD monitor at all. It's my first LCD flat panel, so I haven't got much to compare it with, but I must say, I am pleased. Excellent contrast, bright screen, works well with both my 2 year old G4 PowerMac (in OS 9 and OS X) and my 3 year old Windows 98 PC. I had no problems getting it set up or working with either system.

Of course, it is a transition from a traditional CRT monitor-there is a set "native resolution" that the monitor looks best in (1280 x 1024). Of course you can use other resolutions, but they are not quite as nice. Since I was planning on setting it at 1280 x 1024, this is a non-issue for me. (All LCD monitors have a set "native resolution".) And, color calibration is ... "different" than it is with a CRT. Also, the colors get a little skewed when I look at the screen from an angle. (In this monitor's case, there is a pretty good viewing range, so I have no complaints.) I hasten to add, these are issues with all flat panels, so it comes with the territory! All-in-all, minor issues for me.

I am very pleased with this monitor, and hope to get another just like it soon.

5Superb monitor at a great price!
By Fadi
The LCD1700V monitor has rich colors and a bright screen. It is an excellent buy...The only problem I'm now facing is that I'm running Windows with a 2 monitor setup. In comparison, my professional Viewsonic CRT monitor looks pale and I see myself often turning it off and working only with the NEC LCD monitor. I guess sooner or later I'll have to buy another LCD monitor :)

5Excellent and Crisp!
By A Customer
This review is a response to the review by "Borislav Kolev" from Texas.

The recommended rate for Vertical Refresh is simply a reference to how the LCD panel circuitry will handle the analog to digital conversion that is inherent in an LCD panel. An LCD panel does not actually "refresh" the screen in the same manner that a cathode ray tube does (e.g., television or standard computer monitor) and you can see this when you view the monitor through a video camera (have you ever noticed the flicker you see on television sets in the background of a newscast? That's the phenomenon of refresh rate (in Hertz) being out of "sync" with the video camera).Hence, our friend from Texas or anyone else with extreme sensitivity to common computer monitors (myself included) should experience NO sensitivity to an LCD panel that is using 60Hz vertical refresh. I suggest the reviewer give 60Hz a chance before returning the unit.

5Even better than expected!
By Carl Haluss
I must have read every single review on every single website and in every single magazine, for every flat panel monitor made. Make sure you read all the specs on each monitor before you make a decision. The specs for the 1550m (mine is black)came out tops for brightness, contrast and response time, especially for a 15" monitor at this price. A lot of complaints I was hearing, were regarding the brightness, I actually have mine turned down. The clarity, both images and text, is excellent. Auto adjust set up right away, as advertised, and with the free download of "LiquidView" software, enabling one to set icons, text and other tools at a larger size and still keep the same resolution, the display is even more impressive. The small one-watt speakers produce a much clearer and sharper sound than one would expect from such small low-power units. The fact that I have a Soundblaster Audigy sound card installed obiously helps, but nonetheless these small speakers are impressive. The four USB ports in the base are very convenient (there is a USB cord supplied to hook the base of the monitor to a USB port on the processor), although USB 1.1, I have a printer, zip drive and wireless mouse connected and everything works great. My first PC was an NEC (also the monitor), and from the word go, it worked flawlessly for 5 years and is still going strong, so that also says a lot for NEC products, never had a problem with the hard drive or anything.I haven't been much of a gamer, but with the fast response time of 25ms. and the clarity of this screen, the graphics look gorgeous, with bright vivid colours. The resolution is 1024X768, so you do get the odd error message saying that the screen is not set at optimum, but I can live with that. I love this monitor, and with the narrow frame it actually appears to be a lot larger than 15", the display area seems larger than on the 17" CRT at work. It is very solidly built, and it also happens to be one of the best-looking monitors I have seen. I was tempted to go with one of the competitors, but compared to this 15" the other one looked massive with the much larger frame, it doesn't sound like a big deal but NEC is right, it does make a big difference. Even without the speakers and USB ports, I would spend the extra bucks, just for the added brightness and contrast, even over the 1550V model, just compare all the specs and you'll see why this small unit comes out on top. One review I read about the 1530V, the writer mentioned having an ATI video card, as I do, (Radeon 8500), and I do agree that it seems to work seamlessly with this unit. I am not that knowledgable technically, I can only say that the components I have in my system all work well together, whether the actual make of video card makes any difference in reality, I can't say. The one thing I do know for sure is that I love this monitor and have a hard time taking my eyes off it, my next upgrade in a few years would again be NEC, probably 18". Good Luck!

5Unless you require digital input, this is the BEST 15" panel
By V. Cheng
Unless you require digital input interface, which I would recommend Eizo Nanao's L365, NEC's 1550M is by far the best in terms of image quality for the price. Contrasts and brightness make this monitor stand out from the crowd. I found my Samsung panel at work lacks the brightness and contrasts that i demand, but this 1550M meets my highest expectation. The small premium over the others including NEC 1550V is worth every bit.

By the way, the 1550M's panel is identical to Nanao's L365, which explains why these two monitors manage to have such outstanding image quality. (Still a satisfed user even though my panel has one dead pixel)

3Good, but not good enough for me
By Cezar Grzelak
This monitor is adequate but it's not best of breed. Lack of a DVI input means it is difficult to make text razor sharp and there is some shadow effect when black text is displayed on grey background. On the positive side colour reproduction is good and latency is low enough to make gaming and video playback entirely possible. This monitor will probably more than satisfy an average customer but those looking for top notch quality (and are prepared to pay premium for it) have to keep on looking. I'm returning mine as text quality is absolutely paramount for me and this monitor doesn't quite deliver.

5This LCD monitor ROCKS!!
By Dave Fitz
I don't know what's up with the "electronics fan" from Brooklyn, but when you set this monitor to the native resolution of 1280x1024 in combination with Windows XP's ClearType option enabled, the results are absolutely amazing. It looks anything BUT grainy to me. For a monitor with a total response rate spec'd at 50ms, you think you would experience the "ghosting" effect (also known as screen noise). However, after four days of putting this monitor to the test with games, office apps & Internet browsing, I have seen no signs of it yet.

I also think it is worth mentioning that this is my third NEC LCD monitor purchase since 1998, and I have yet to see one dead pixel between the three of them. I have also purchased two Viewsonic LCD's during this time period and returned them both in exchange for the NEC's due to multiple dead pixels in both of them, so I think that says something about NEC's LCD quality control.

If you are considering an 18" LCD flat panel, all I can tell you is that I can't imagine it getting much better than this!! The display is just gorgeous and you are sure to be the envy of all your computer savvy friends & relatives.

5AMAZING!!!!!!!
By A Customer
This monitor is amazing!! After looking at many LCD monitors and doing my homework, I decided to take the plunge and spend the extra money for this masterpiece. Sure, I could have gone for a less expensive, or perhaps a smaller monitor, but after I got this out of the box and watched it perform I was in complete awe. The picture was even better than my Sony Wega T.V.!!! I urge you to strongly consider this monitor if you can swing the funds- you will not be dissappointed unless you decide on something else.

5WFM - Wonderful, Fabulous Must-have
By MK
I guess I am rhapsodizing over this pressure cooker but it's the 4th one I've tried and I must say I love it!We remodeled our kitchen and our new cooktop is an induction model so our old (20+ year) aluminum PC no longer worked for us.I tried Futuro, Kuhn Rikon and some other brand I don't recall. None was both thick enough to prevent food burning and with a simple and easy to use pressure system.I cook daily for 6 or more and this cooker is big enough to meet all my needs. In the few days I've had it, I've made risotto - no burning, cheesecake - no cracking, chicken cacciatore and brisket. Every recipe was perfect when done.Clean up is a snap - remove the handle and rinse under running water. Remove the sealing ring and wash by hand. Toss everything else in the dishwasher.Did I say I love this pressure cooker? Yes, it's expensive but well worth it!06/27/2010 Edited to add that the pressure release valve with the little ball in it cracked. I called WMF America and they were happy to send a new one. There were no customer service issues at all. The people I spoke to were helpful and courteous. We still love our cooker and continue to get lots of use from it.

5Good pot and a bad cook
By K. YI
I would not have bought this item if Amazon offered this unit for $100, for I've had various pressure cookers in the past that lasted worthy of that much money. What a pleasant surprise; It's been more than 2 years of regular use and abuse, and has not encountered any problem whatsoever. I'd not mind spending full retail price knowing that how well this thing is engineered and built. Its innovative pressure indicator feature, the thing that pops out, informs user to set optimal heat setting while preventing a possible explosion. Once temperature of cooking matter has reached maximum temperature with full heat applied, usually 30-40% of maximum heat is all that's required to retain highest temperature; this is important if one cooks over 3 hours like I do. Compare to 10 hours of continuous heating at full heat with conventional pot; saves big on utility bill, all precious human time and unpleasant odor left by boiling something for such long time. Pressure relief valve is the best design I've seen so far, in safety and functionality aspect. I can see that people actually used their brain to work when designing this unit, and I appreciate that greatly.

5This is a wonderful pressure cooker.
By Soccermom
This pressure cooker performs flawlessly and cleans up easily and beautifully. This cooker is rather tall, but I like that. If I brown meat or chicken in the pan before cooking, splatters are nicely contained. This pressure cooker is very safe and easy to use---nothing like my mother's "scary" pressure cooker.I have called WMF customer service (not because of a problem, but rather with questions re use) and I've found their customer service excellent.I highly recommend this pressure cooker.

5A great first pressure cooker
By A Customer
I received a Perfect-Plus pressure cooker as a Christmas gift. I have used it several times a week since then, because it is so fun to use & experiment with. I have been interested in cooking with a pressure cooker for a while - but was intimidated by them.

I was given a 4.5 quart cooker, which was too small for some of the recipes in the recipe book that comes with the cooker. I exchanged it for a 6.5 quart cooker, and that has been a useful size.

The Perfect Plus is incredibly easy to use. It has a very clear pressure gauge that makes it easy to adjust to medium & high pressure. It does not make any noise. It is very easy to release the pressure gently, without letting out a blast of steam.

I have let the cooker get too hot a few times. It makes a clearly audible "hooting" noise, and you just remove it from the heat.

It is heavy and seems very well made. The handle clicks on, making it very easy to take apart and clean. I have not used any other pressure cookers, but it is hard for me to imagine that they are any easier to use. The Perfect-Plus is a great pressure cooker, and very simple to use.

1not so perfect after all
By Rene Lorenz
I purchased this item last year. At first I was extremely pleased, but after less than a year the TransTherm base separated from the pot. Since was still under manufacturer's warranty and I had always used it according to manufacturer's instructions, I contacted WMF America. I contacted them several times via email, but only got the run around. Finally I contacted them by phone, only to be told by the customer service rep that this rarely happens and when it does it is rarely covered by their warranty. However, if I wanted to ship it to them, they would be happy to look at it and then tell me they would not cover it. I contacted the CEO of the American division and never received any response at all. How disappointing. They clearly do not excel in customer service and do not stand behind their warranty.

5No one does it better than this
By C. Tang
For a long time, I had a traditional alluminum pressure cooker that was given by my mother. It has the weight thing on top and when the pressure builds up, that thing is just bouncing up and down making all kinds of noise every few seconds. And alluminum is not good for cooking anyway. I looked at several choices including Kuhn Rikon and others that have stainless steel models. Then I chose this one over the Kuhn Rikon (the other final candidate) for the look, quality and easy to clean. It's much cleaner looking than others. The control is concealed and the lid is smooth all around. I was still surprised at how well it is made when I received it. The mirror finish does make it standout in our kitchen in a good way. It's easy to clean especially with that quick release handle. The helper handle is definitely a plus for less strong arms. We have cooked many meals with it and absolutely love it. Also, its rubber seal ring is much heavy duty then some other ones I looked, one less thing to worry I guess. It will take your cooking experience to another easy and joyable level.
