5The best monitor I've ever used!
By Jonathan Sanders
I'm legally blind, and a college student majoring in Journalism. Which means my desktop computer is virtually my home, and my monitor has to be compatible with many forms of visual enhancement software, as well as being able to work well in 1024x768 settings. Coming off using a terrible monitor that came with my computer, I was finally able to get VocRehab to let me test out the NEC AccuSync 125F, which has to be the best 22" flat screen monitor on the market. Sure, the weight can be an issue (the whole thing weighs 75 pounds and is so bulky it takes two people to move it (or one to carry, one to do some major spotting) . . . but once you get it set up you'll see what I've been seeing now for well over a year.

This monitor has worked wonders with all my high end graphics. I've used it with ZoomText, Kurzweil 3000, and at one point even installed a TV receiver to my desktop, which combined with my DVD drive, made my computer easier on my eyes for TV viewing than my RCA television! With my vision as bad as it is, I'm difficult to please when it comes to finding something that works for everything. But if you need a solid monitor for all purposes, this one is for you.

5Great machine - worth the money!
By J. F.
After much research - I decided on getting the best machine on the market!

I just received my Jiffy Steamer J-4000 Pro-Line Series Garment Steamer a few days ago, and quite frankly, I'm amazed at its effectiveness!

First of all, assembling it was incredibly simple - took no more than 5 minutes. The machine comes with no more than 4-5 pieces to put together, and a wrench is included for free (so no extra personal tools needed). It comes on casters for easily mobility. It doesn't take much storage space (20 inches wide - 10 inch depth).

It has 3 settings: Off, Preheat and Steam, so there is no complication. Also, it has automatic shut-off - and the best part: if you're planning to use it throughout the day, you can leave it on preheat to conserve water! Just switch to steam when ready and you're ready to steam immediately!

Once assembled, you pour no more than 4 quarts of water (tap water or distilled water is fine) into the machine (while it's off), then turn on, switch the setting to "pre-heat", then wait about 15 minutes. You know it's ready to be switched to "steam" when the indicator light starts blinking on and off. You then switch to steam and wait about 2 minutes for the steam to start. Then you're ready to go (and go and go - this machine is capable of over 1.5 hours of steam time!)

Steaming the clothes is very simple. As you go along, you'll find that some fabrics steam much easier than others, and you'll learn different methods of steaming different types of fabric. Some fabrics do perfectly steaming from the outside - some lend themselves better to the steaming process if you steam from the INSIDE of the garment. Other fabrics take longer to steam, others take only a few minutes. But in all cases - hold the fabric taut with one hand while steaming - helps remove the wrinkles faster!

Just make sure you keep the steamhead in an upright position when steaming so the condensation can go back into the machine - if you don't do this - you'll hear a lot of sputtering. To stop the sputter, just place the steam head on its storage hanger and it will stop immediately!

In addition to removing wrinkles, this steamer helps remove smells from fabric!

The only "shortcoming" about this machine is that steaming long dresses is cumbersome (but not impossible). The steamer stands approx. 5 feet tall (I'm 5'2) - however, long garments/dresses call for you to get on your knees or sit down on the floor or chair to steam comfortably. However, if you're sitting on the floor, after several minutes of steaming, you start to hear sputtering and then you have to stop and place steamhead upright again. But the height might be industry standard. However, so much good outweighs this small inconvenience, that I would be willing to LAY DOWN on the floor to steam dresses!

In summary, I recommend this machine 100%. Don't settle for cheapies - in the long run they may cost you more to own than this "workhorse"!

5Fabulous Tool for Busy People Who Have to Look Good
By lamban
Since I never know what I want to wear (to work) until morning usually, my modus operandi previously was to iron in the morning if I felt up to it. In addition, to get good results was a huge pain and time consumer, let alone that the clothes that I ironed looked worse and worse over time.Enter the J-4000...I first purchased the Jiffy J-2000 based on reviews on the Web and the fact that it was on sale at Costco.com. Upon receiving it and trying it out, I was not especially impressed because the steam seemed to merely seep out of the head. It did a passable job of getting wrinkles out, but did not seem to have what I felt was the power to really get my clothes in great shape quickly and effectively.I then visited Amazon.com and re-read the reviews of both the J-2000 and the J-4000. I noticed that people were absolutely raving about the J-4000. I also discovered that the price at the time was a steal, so I decided to try it side-by-side and return the model I did not want.Well, I received the J-4000 today and whipped out a few of my daughter's tiny little button-down lacy shirts that have been a nightmare to iron (and hence, have not been getting any wearings). I also steamed a suit I wore today to an all-day meeting and now it is as fresh as if I'd just gotten it dry-cleaned. Unlike with the J-2000, I actually could see the steam moving through all of the layers of fabric and making a true difference in my suit's appearance (and odor with a little Febreeze).I am sold on the J-4000 and will be returning the J-2000. I think the J-4000 works so well because of the 1500 W vs. 1300 W heating element. It makes a big difference.I paid $124 with shipping at Costco.com for the J-2000 and $199 with shipping at Amazon.com for the J-4000. Since then, I've only seen it as low as $250, so you'll have to watch for specials.

5A Bachelor's Favorite!
By Phermat
Let's get one thing out of the way here.... I HATE IRONING!!!I'm a 20-something bachelor, and although I know how to iron, I've always hated the particular mixture of tediousness/meticulousness necessary to get ALL the wrinkles out of clothes. So much so, that unless it is a special occasion, I just do the leave the clothes hanging in the bathroom while I take a shower (and hope for the best).Enter the J-4000 Jiffy steamer. I'd heard legends about steamers being wonderful to use and easier/quicker than ironing. But the only people I'd known had the hand steamers, which were always garbage, and the big models always cost several times even the fanciest iron. My parents eventually bought a low-level conair big steamer and used it for about a week. In my mom's words, it work nice, but it just didn't produce enough steam, so things took forever. Now I recently moved up in position at my job, and the wrinkled recent bachelor look just won't fly anymore. So I saw this during an Amazon Friday sale for a "buck seventy-five" with free shipping, did a little research, and saw this was the Cadillac of steamers. Knowing Amazon's excellent customer service, I ordered this, figuring if this didn't work as advertised, I'd return it, and close the door on steamers forever (and hope that someday I could afford a monthly dry-cleaning service). But it worked!! When I broke this out on laundry day, I was initially greeted by a load of laundry I'd accidentally left in the drier for 2 weeks. If there was ever a test for the de-wrinkling powers of this steamer, some creases that have been pressed for 2 weeks ought to do it. But even on those, even the most wrinkled shirt/sweater took only about a minute and a half. The thing operates like a breeze, is a snap to assemble, and produces a bunch of steam. The only drawback I see is that it's a little oddly-shaped, so it's kind of hard to store without breaking down, but breakdown only takes about 30 seconds.I also saw in the brochure that there is a steam board that you can put on the wall, which might make things even easier, as it will prevent garments from swaying while being steamed, but Amazon doesn't sell it. It is pricey on Jiffy Steamer's website. I may end up making a home-made version, as it doesn't look that complicated. But the end result is that even this iron-hating bachelor doesn't mind dewrinkling his clothes anymore. I wish I'd bought this thing years ago!! :)

5Poor Looks; Outstanding Craftsmanship
By H. D. Carvalho
I'll make it simple: If you are looking for a home-edition garment steamer, your top 2 choices in the marketplace will likely be the Jiffy 2000 and the Rowenta 8100.I tested both for 10 hours; on a 1 to 10 scale:Jiffy (Looks = 6; Engineering = 10; Handling = 9; Craftsmanship = 10).It looks like a mop bucket on wheels but it performs like a jet engine; every part of this machine from the plate at the bottom of the unit to the steam handle is built for rugged usage.Rowenta (Looks = 10; Engineering = 5; Handling = 7; Crafsmanship = 4).It looks like a UFO but performs like a Pinto with much less steaming power; it is built as a toddler's toy having most parts made with inexpensive plastic including the watertank base and valve: pull the machine a single foot OR tilt it a mere 1 inch and you will experience a slow-building cascade.Buy the Rowenta 8100 as a decorative piece to make your closet look good.Buy the Jiffy 2000 as a garment steamer to make your clothes look good.

5Worthwhile Purchase
By M. Shea
After figuring out that I must be spending in excess of $1000 yearly to have my husband's oxford shirts cleaned and pressed, I decided to cut my losses and purchase a Jiffy steamer.I am happy with the purchase, so much so that I routinely steam garments that I would not have ironed in the past (t-shirts especially come out looking store-bought new), and it takes very little time.I have used the steamer on prom dresses with great success.I am able to press a knife-edged crease in dress pants of all types of material.I think the best thing about this appliance is that I feel I am damaging our clothing LESS than if I were using an iron.Don't throw away your iron, however! I must still use it to finish off the collars and shoulders of my husband's work shirts.

5Great purchase
By Sarah L. Johnston
After borrowing a friend's ConAir steamer, and reading numerous reviews, I purchased this Jiffy from Amazon about a month ago. The Jiffy seems to be better-built than the ConAir, and puts out more steam, more consistantly than the model I borrowed. In the last month, I have steamed everything I can think of in my house, to see how it works. I have been pleased with this product, and here is what I have learned:1) A steamer is not an iron. While I have read reviews of how you can press creases into clothing, I have not been successful in this (yet). I don't really care about creases, though, and have not spent much time trying.2) A steamer is a tool. You have to learn how to use it properly to get good results. Steaming from underneath works better than steaming downward into the right side of the fabric. Just like anyone who uses a hammer a few times is almost certainly going to hammer their finger, you will probably burn yourself while you are learning to use a steamer. When I first started using the steamer, I wanted to steam upwards, like I iron. It was counter-inuitive for me, but it works better to steam downwards.3) Wrinkles really do fall out of fabrics, but this seems to only happen with synthetic fibers or blends with a high percentage of synthetics. If I had trouble ironing it, it will take some work to steam it. However, I always iron in more wrinkles than I take out, so for natural or difficult fabrics, I do a better job with a steamer. Fabrics that I was afraid to iron (too thin/delicate) steam beautifully. Now, about the Jiffy J-2000 specifically:This steamer heats up very quickly, in just two or three minutes. I like to turn it on while I decide what to wear, and by the time I get it all together, it is ready to use. The wattage (1300) is slightly higher than most personal steamer models and makes a big difference in how quickly you can finish a garment. The steamer is very sturdily built. It uses heavy-duty plastics, and comes with a wrench (magnetically attached underneath the steamer body) to secure the parts tightly. The pole that holds the steamer head and clothing is shorter than I would personally like (and the hose is a little shorter, too) and stands about 5 feet. I could not steam all the way to the top of my curtains, while they were mounted to the wall. The water reservoir does not leak, although when you pull it out, some water does remain in the connection area, but not enough to make a mess. The list price on amazon for the steamer was 169.99, quite a deal more than most of the other steamers listed on Amazon. I purchased mine with a special 25$ off through Amazon, so paid 145$. I think that it is worth that price. I would not pay this much for the ConAir model that I borrowed. In a year, I may think the Jiffy is worth the Amazon list price.

5By far, the best way to roast a turkey!
By S. Jentsch
Our primary use for this great roaster is for cooking the Thanksgiving turkey each year, but it also has a multitude of other uses.

Nesco roasters are such a part of my family's history that I thought everyone owned one. When there were family reunions, we'd see many of these, holding everything from hot potato salad to baked beans, to burgers and brats to keep them warm before the meal starts.

Back to the turkey, however. In the 10 years that my wife and I have been hosting Thanksgiving for our families, we've never had a bad turkey come out of the Nesco. When I hear stories about dried-out birds in standard ovens, I can't relate, since I've never had any need to roast a turkey or ham in the oven.

The Nesco roaster keeps the food moist while cooking evenly. There's not much more you can ask from a roaster, and this does it with ease!

5Every home should have one
By Matthew Hennick
I grew up in central Wisconsin, and there were three articles of faith that everyone took for granted---the Green Bay Packers, International Harvestor trucks and tractors, and Nesco roasters.

Well, the Pack have had their ups and downs, and IH is out of business, but Nesco still makes a great cooker (made in China now, unfortunately), that can handle anything, including pies, cookies, chili, booyah, the Thanksgiving turkey and the Christmas ham. Forget the Cuisinart, ditch the microwave oven, lose the high-end Viking gas oven. Yeah, they draw a lot of electricity (1,435 watts), but I truly feel sorry for anyone who has to muddle through life without one.

5Great entry-level home theater receiver
By C. Robinson
I've had this unit for a month and have been very happy with it; very hard to beat in this price range. We only watch about 4 DVDs a month (at the most), and our home theater setup is in a fairly small room (13x15 ft.), so it didn't make sense to go for a higher end unit. This is the least expensive high-current power I could find.

Weaknesses:- The remote is small, with lots of closely spaced buttons and tiny lettering. It provides a lot of control over the receiver, and does a 'better than expected' job controlling my JVC TV set, but does nothing for my Sony CD player, Phillips DVD player, or Panasonic VCR.- May not be enough power for a large room (see strengths, below). If both of these are serious issues for you, you should definitely consider the next model up, an additional [price].

Strengths:- Excellent for the price.- Easy to set up & tweak.- Full home theater alphabet soup support: Dolby Digital, DTS, Pro-Logic II- 'Family friendly' design: no bass & treble knobs for your youngster to mess with, and it has one of those volume controls that is always where it was the last time you turned it off (so you won't blow your speakers upon power up because your kids cranked it when you weren't watching).- High-current power supports the use of higher-end speakers, like Paradigm, PSB, NHT, etc.- Lots of loud, clear sound. Don't let the 65 watts fool you. If this unit were a Sony, they'd probably tell you it was 80 watts. Here's the rub: for full, 5.1 channel DVD watching, I need to turn this unit up to about 80 (on a scale of 0-100) to get loud, theater-level sound, and I'm in a small, 13x15 foot room. If the room was much bigger, you could be hitting your head on the ceiling of what this receiver can produce. The good news is this: even turned up almost all the way, I'm hearing no noticable distortion. Also, what I consider "loud, theater-level sound", my wife considers "Oh my gosh, will you turn that thing down, you're going to deafen the baby". 'Loud' is all relative.

Overall, This is a good splurge unit for a home theater newbie who wants to expand beyond the 'home theater in a box' scene, and its also a good unit for 'budget audiophiles' who don't live in a barn, a loft, or a mansion.

4Kitchen gadget lover
By Nathan H Heinrichs
I recently bought this pan to start replacing my T-Fal that is starting to chip after only 5 years. I LOVE this pan. It works great for our family of 4. The clear glass lids are wonderful and nothing sticks to them. Clean up is a breeze and gets me out of the kitchen fast.

The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is the handle on top of the lid gets very, very hot. Not a great idea, as a plastic one would work, but probably would melt if put in the oven.

It was worth the money and am back to purchase another one at this great price!

5Love this pan
By atmj
I've had this pan for several weeks now and I'm overjoyed with it.JUST THE RIGHT SIZEI make about 3 cups of rice regularly for meals. Generally the 2 & 3 quart pans I have are either too small or too large for the job. This one is perfect. Being shallow it is squattier on the burner too, so it covers it more efficiently as well.

HEATS UP AMAZINGLY FASTThough I have a decent set of pans to compare it with, I never realized how much a difference a good pan could make. It heats up in half the time the other pan does. This pan must be made for ceramic top stoves. My other pans are flat bottom and aluminum base, but a bit thinner. The speed difference was very noticable. Also another thing it does is maintain its heat well and very consistently.

HOT HANDLE ON COVER CAN BE A RUDE SURPRISEThe only negative, was since the cover is glass with a metal handle, you are in for a shock if you are used to a plastic handle on the cover. This one gets hot, really hot. I chuckled when I read the other reviewer's complaint. It is not so much that it is glass (which I think is a real plus, no need to lift to check), but the hot handle and the glass make a deadly combination when you accidentally lift it without a pot holder and then are inclined drop it. I think Calpholon would do well to replace it with a plastic one.

HAND WASH ONLYThe other concern I had was needing to hand wash it. Given that it is non-stick, this is real easy work and is not an issue. Most of the time I hand washed my other pans anyway.

GREAT WAY TO GET YOU HOOKED ON CALPHALONI think this was a great buy and I plan to invest more in some other great Calpholon pans.

5Will's new favorite
By CMBohn
We got this toy somewhere else on clearance and my son hasn't stopped playing with it yet. He's a dedicated Thomas fan and he's in heaven. It comes with Duncan, three circus animals, two circus train cars, track, and a double-sided board. One side has a track, tent, animals, etc. The other side is the same except no track. It also has a road if you want to run Bertie on it. Anyway, it was sure a bargain and he's really happy with it. If your child is into Thomas and likes the circus, this is sure to be a hit.
