Simple and accurate

This is a fairly pedestrian item as survey equipment goes. No frills or fanciness. But for the builder or small-time contractor, it does what it claims, does it well, and is affordable. The instrument is accurate in gimmick-free fashion. I'm most impressed with the high quality of the level itself. The optics are very clear and can be focused from beyond the limits of accuracy to pretty darn close-up. The leveling system is machined brass, solid and effective. The stadia rod, though a bit short at eight feet, is well made of extruded aluminum, and is perfect for an average building site. A taller rod would be desirable in order to work effectively in hilly terrain. The tripod, though in some places constucted of cheaper materials (to keep the package affordable), is still solid and reliable.I have a consumer-grade laser level that I'll probably only use rarely now that I have the real thing.Recommended.

Very good reel.

I have had the opportunity to use two of these hose reels. The first one is in our shop and has performed superbly for the last two years-excellent! The second is on a shop rig, and seems to have slowed a bit due to being in the weather (a little oxidized as well), but it still works well. I would rate this reel as a 9.0 on the scale, I definitely would buy another.

Sheet Metal Muncher

I picked up this tool when I decided it was time to add some metal roofing to my home. It was an obvious choice for the job, and Milwaukee is one of my key brands. This little wonder will mow through sheet metal like nobody's business. It made short work of custom cutting edge trim and holes for vent piping. I'd still be working on that roof job if I was using hand snips. Milwaukee designed this tool right by building it on a drill body. The ergonomics are great. The head can be made to swivel to any desired position by loosening the set screw on the side of the head with the hex key that comes with the tool. Way to go Milwaukee !!

One Tough Shear

We use several of these in an industrial manufacturing plant. They are tough, and do the job, year after year. Hey Vicky, to swivel the head, you simply loosen ONE bolt, swivel or rotate the shear head to the desired position, and retighten.

There are three bolts on the shear head. The bolt to loosen is the one that is closest to where the silver colored shear head attaches to the gray body. The wrench should be in the box. Enjoy!

At home in your collection

Hasbro has been making special series of G.I. Joes and have been doing a fine job. Previously, it did the Pearl Harbor collection, and now, they are doing the D-Day collection.

This action figure is a worthy addition, as mentioned in another review, there are three units to choose from, but you would have to be able to look at it to choose the right one. The difference is in the patch on the helmet and sleeve.

This Joe comes with helmet with chin strap, jacket, shirt, pants, boots, shovel with removable holder, canteen that can attach to belt, belt with four removable pouches, gas mask bag (which does not open, for it is molded plastic), and rifle. The rifle has a tri-pod, and the legs of the tri-pod are pretty thin. If this were played with a lot, these may break off. Needless to say, the removable pouches are small with small pieces of wire. Be careful if you have small kids.

This Joe has the inverted thumbnail, but not the scar on the cheek. His hands are hinged allowing him to hold his gear better. This collection also seems to be more articulated than traditional Joes.

This Joe should have a place on any collector's shelf!

The makers of G.I. Joe do an exelent job on this figure that comemerates the landings at Omaha Beach on June 6,1944. There are three different types of this figure the 29th Infantry Divison which I chose (the blue and white yin-yang), the 1st Infanty Divison (with the big red 1 on the sleeve and helment), and the 4th Infantry Divison that landed on Utah Beach (with the circle with the 4 stars coming out of it) All of the Divison patches are on the figures left shoulder and helmet. This Joe is armed with a Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) and has 4 ammo pouches along with a gas mask bag and boots with leggings. This is a great edition to any G.I.Joe collection.

Milwaukee Variable Temp Heat Gun

I purchased a Milwaukee Variable Temperature Heat Gun, Model 8977-20 to strip several layers of old paint on the exterior trim of a 1914 Four Square home. The Milwaukee delivered on the brand's reputation for contractor quality and thoughtful ergonomic design.

After using the heat gun for several window frames, several things stand out: It's light. An important quality when working above your head. (This was one of the key reasons I selected the Milwaukee heat gun over competitors'.)

It's quiet. You barely hear it. Again, a nice feature when you are working several hours at a stretch. It's easy to adjust temperature (just twist the rear housing cover). It really works well. Several layers of badly cracked paint, scraped away with only a few seconds of heat.

Be careful on dry, bare wood with any heat gun. It can burn. I used a spray bottle to wet down old, bare wood when working close to the edge.

Good Vacuum, vague assembly instructions, no attachments.

The Good:Vacuum has great suction (and blowing) power. Simple, sturdy design. Milwaukee's (email) customer service is great.The Bad:Why did I need customer support? The assembly instructions don't specify which way to put on the wheels. Please DO NOT hammer the metal hub caps onto the wheels before FIRST fitting the assembly of the undercarriage on the lower rim of the metal body of the vacuum. The wheels only go on ONE way. Once the wheels are on inside out, it's EXTREMELY hard to pry the hub caps back off. Removal involves the metal blade of a spackling tool (to protect the soft plastic of the wheels), a screwdriver, safety goggles, and quite a bit of swearing. If you avoid putting the wheels on inside out, assembly is easy.The Ugly:When ordering the vacuum, I called amazon customer service to find out whether the vacuum will be delivered with attachments. The employee at amazon's call center read the website to me I was looking at (which didn't contain that information). I ordered the vacuum, and found out it DOES NOT come with attachments, or even one vacuum bag (for dry dirt). I ordered the (rather expensive) accessories from a provider I googled, they were not available on amazon. To this day, I have not received them (it's been more than three weeks, and will take at least another, according to their rather vague response).UPDATE:After 9 weeks of waiting for the accessory order to arrive, I cancelled my order. The Milwaukee vacuum kit is available directly from amazon now, for a better price. Arrived at my doorstep two days later.I LOVE using my Milwaukee 8955, it's a bit noisy but that comes with the territory.Height measurements of vacuum (in case you wondered, like I did): Height of vacuum, fully assembled, bottom of wheels to top of body: 31" approx. Total height of vacuum, bottom of wheels to top of handle: 38.5" approx.

US Made Performance and Build Quality

I was looking to avoid poor quality, chinese made junk from the home improvement stores to replace my old reliable Sears wet/dry vac, when its plastic on/off switch snapped off. I wanted something better rather than worse than the old Craftsman, so researched that various contractor grade options, many of which were prohibitively expensive industrial models, including most of the Milwaukees. I love my other US made Milwaukee tools and was relieved to find out this vac (as of my 06/08 purchase) was not one of the products moved to overseas manufacture as has occurred with some Milwaukee tools. Comparing specs for wet/dry vacs is tricky as even the relevant sealed-suction-inches-in-water specs vary in suspect ways. The power of this 8936 model proved to be outstanding and beyond what the bare numbers might suggest, and the motor sounds superior to those on the home improvement store brands (and the old Craftsman) in the same way that a professional power drill/motor sounds so much better than a cheap one. The vac served perfectly in heavy duty use during a kitchen remodel and partial garage remodel. The accessories are expensive, but even the plastic ones are sturdy, and an old-stock metal floor hose set I found is so well designed that I use it for the tile and hardwood floors in the house since the Milwaukee works so much better for this task than even the high-end Dyson vacuum we have in the house. The three position switch turned out to be a huge bonus when I used the on-demand function and slipped the hose directly onto two power sanders and a table saw. I have used the machine regularly for 18 mos without any performance problems and it has met or exceeded very high expectations even though it is a modest machine in Milwaukee's line. Anyone willing to pay what it takes to avoid low quality (and often dangerous), Made in China tools, will be proud and relieved to buy this tool.

I bought this vacuum after researching other brands and I'm glad I decided on the Milwaukee. I've owned several ShopVac's and they lost suction after a short time and I constantly had to clean the filters (I bought three to save myself trips outside to clean them). I also needed a tank that wasn't too big and clumsy to empty and Ialso like that I can use a bag instead of the filter. We're renovating an old farmhouse and the dust and dirt are horrendous... this vacuum takes care of all of it.The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because it only comes with a cheap hose, no tools. I bought the tool kit, which is very sturdy and the hose is very flexible, but it's also expensive. The hose that came with the vacuum broke after a short time of use.

BEST KVM on the market (updated review)

I purchased this to switch between my PC and a new mini Mac.Design:The cords are premium quality and come with velco snaps, which really impressed me. They didn't have to do that (no one else does), and that demonstrates how committed they are to little details. Also, having buttons to switch between computers is essential. I DO NOT recommend any KVM that relies on "hot-keys" whatsoever; I speak from experience. Again, I *STRONGLY* advice against buying any KVM that relies on "hot-keys" rather than providing actual buttons on the unit.USB:The USB on the Mac is immediate; the mouse is active as soon as I switch, which really surprised me. It takes about 5-10 seconds on my PC (Windows XP), but that's acceptable. Also, having the extra USB ports is nice because I can share my USB printer/scanner between both computers.Speaking of which... Every so often, when I switch back to my PC, it decides to "re-recognize" the printer -- you can see the "New Hardware Found" dialogue pop up in the system tray -- which also automatically sets this printer as my default printer. This is HIGHLY annoying, as I don't realize what happened until I send a document to be printed and it starts printing in my color printer. Like I said, this probably has nothing to do with the KVM, just FYI.Video:There is a noticeable difference. It's like the difference between aliased and non-aliased text, i.e. the text is just a bit blurry. You may not notice for lower resolutions like 800x600 or possibly 1024. I was able to change my monitor settings so that the display for one PC was perfect, but then my Mac displays a bit blurry.Conclusion:If crisp video is not essential, this is a great choice. I've tried MANY models, and so far this is the best. And, like I said, since I haven't been able to find a KVM that didn't reduce video quality, I can't really fault this one too much.FYI, I received a black unit even though the Amazon picture is white, which I prefer anyway.

Works Great Including With Wireless Keyboard/Mouse

Works just as expected. Switches quickly among two desktop machines and a laptop (all running WinXP). Each machine takes < 1 min to recognize, same as when plugging in any new USB device. Very durable cables. Was concerned about using wireless keyboard/mouse, but works great with the Microsoft Wireless Desktop, including the multimedia function keys. Version of the switch that I received is black, not white as pictured.

This one works.

The connectpro USB KVM Switch costs a few dollars more but it really works the first time with no hassles. I've been forced to use cheaper KVM switches at work and Windows XP never seems to play nice with them. I use this one at home with two Linux machines and a desktop and laptop running Windows XP. The switch worked the first time I connected everything together and has worked glitch free ever since.

Mag Base drill motor

Powerful motor. I have used the mag base drills for years. On steel construction it works great. I use it with my steel saw horses and clamps for non-metallic materials. Has the power needed for any job.
