LAN Modem enables up to 4 computers to share its modem

I have installed one of these and recommended that someone with less experience than me install one. I also installed a similar ISDN LAN modem. The installation is a breeze. And it works without a hitch.Any of the four computers trying to access the Internet causes the modem to dial in to the ISP. If the modem is already dialed in, the connection is instantaneous for a user accessing the Internet. One of the four computers has a program to manage the LAN and to test the ISP.One has to set up the network in the usual fashion, which is quite easy, if a little laborious.So you can share files among computers on the LAN as well as all computers on the LAN sharing a modem. One can hook a hub in as one computer to increase the number of computers on the LAN, but that would be stretching the modem.Of course, if all four computers are on the Internet at the same time, the access will be slow for each one of them.

Works great for dial-in access also :)

I use the 3C886a device for dial in access. It was initially intended to share a network connection via dial out, but with the latest flash code ipu720.exe it allows for dial in use. I connect the 3com device to a separate NIC interface on the Unix Server and setup a static IP on the interface that is relative to the LAN modem's IP. This provides a 56K PPP dial up connection which allows me to connect 'multi-session' to my Unix servers and use ftp to transfer files etc. I also don't have to fumble with getting a 56K modem to work in the many Unix variants I need to support(no drivers needed). I have found this solution to be a great benefit in supporting my Unix customers remotely. I am disappointed in 3Com for discontinuing this product and hope I will be able to find it on the 3rd party market like here.

The 3Com LAN Modem with the 7.1 firmware supports dial-in access to a home or office LAN. You say dial-up is dead? Here is why the LAN modem is so useful: - I can remotely and securely monitor a Webcam or other device attached to the LAN modem - At my main home, I shut off cable ($70+/mo) and just call home to access the LAN modem. - No worries about hackers on the Internet fooling with my camera. - Also useful at our vacation home for dial out as well as dial-in, since there is no high-speed Internet there.Too bad 3Com stopped making this. Aside from a slightly kludgey user Interface, it works great. Don't use the setup wizard -- be sure that all settings, particularly IP addresses, are what you want.

Nice Accessory

This is a great tool for those shots where you want to get down low. Macro work and landscape/waterscape shots near the ground are so much easier with the angle finder on than without. I have also used it when doing portrait work to get a more flattering angle without having to kneel or stoop over the whole time.Now for the negative. It fogs up much easier than the normal eyepiece, which makes seeing anything a challenge under some conditions. And the big one for me, especially with macro work, you loose some light when using the angle finder. So if you are already working in a low-light situation, this only makes matters worse.But in well-lit conditions where fogging is not an issue and you want to shoot low, this is an amazing accessory, thus the 4 out of 5 stars.

Never leave home without it

This tool transforms my DRebel XT's tiny little viewfinder into a usable one.At it's 1.25x setting it shows a clear picture with 100% coverage of what the viewfinder shows. At 2.5x, the coverage is much less but that setting is very handy for very critical manual focussing jobs.Remember to set your camera's diopter to it's default factory setting. Otherwise, flipping the angle finder between 1.25x and 2.5x magnification requires re-adjustment of the finder's diopter.Another big advantage of this little device is that it gives you the freedom to try exciting angles (hey, they don't call it the Angle Finder for nothing) without breaking your neck.The only minor downside is the initial learning curve in getting adjusted to the image shown by the finder.

Great Addition for Serious Phtotgraphers

If you only take an occasional photo this will not be of much interest to you. However, if you are like me and spend a lot of time behind your camera, you will love it. You will no longer be mashing your nose against the back of your camera body. I tried an extension for the view finder and found them of little use.I use one of these on a Canon EOS 1Ds DSLR which is usually mounted on a tripod. This Angle Finder allows much easier viewing without having to twist your body around to see through the view finder. This allows you more flexibility on how you set up your tripod so you can get that perfect angle for the shot.The only down side is that it is basically more glass to reduce the light getting to your eye and also more glass to keep clean. But I found these problems to be negligible and they are greatly out weighed by the benefits of using one of these on the camera.I never leave home without it.

Keeps toys tidy

This was easy to put together by myself. I love the wheels so it moves easily when I need to vacuum or wash the floors. We use the bins (but not with the lids) for my son's toys. He can access them with no problem and even gets the containers out on his own- they are not too heavy when full.This is a beautiful organizer and is well constructed. We love it!

Great shelf for toddler

Great shelf. It used solid wood on the very top shelf and the side board. It is sturdy. I read somewhere that one can even sit on the top shelf (like a bench) because it can support 250lbs. All edges are rounded. It's at a perfect height for toddlers and young children. I bought through Tot to Teen seller (in Amazon). The box shipped with missing screws and instruction to assemble the shelf. I contacted the seller, and they in turn contacted Little Colorado which then sent me the items accordingly. So I'm pretty happy with that response as well. Overall, I like this shelf very much and decided to use it in the play area. I ordered a second one to be put in the kid's bedroom.

great for a montessori-style playroom

We have used these shelves for almost 5 yrs now. They are relatively easy to assemble and are very sturdy. They have grown with my children from age 1.5 to 6 and I forsee using them for a few more years.We don't use the bins in the shelves, but put trays of "works" (2 to each shelf) for the children to select. The top shelf they use as an active work surface. Very appropriate for Montessori-style learning.

Armstrong 24" Adjustable Wrench

Extremely well made in the USA. This is a serious tool. The adjustment stays put, no flexing once adjusted to the fastener. Large jaw capacity and allows for significant leverage due to its length, yet fits in my tool chest. I am very happy with this purchase.

Big wrench

I bought this to remove a bunch of 110-year-old steam radiator valves for replacement. I doubt I needed an Armstrong, but cheap tools are usually a waste of money. This wrench is not cheap, and it is not a waste of money. It's beautiful, and it made removing the stuck valves a snap.

Great price for a backup scanner

I picked this scanner up as a corded backup for my wireless scanner. Product arrived on time, box was a little banged up but the scanner itself was in perfect condition. I pretty much hooked this thing into the PC and it began scanning immediately. To date we have had absolutely no issues and for the price we are certainly happy with our purchase. This is now my second Wasp scanner and can't say enough good things about our experience so far.

strong ratchet

i love this ratchet i have one at home and one at work. its course tooth tho, so i don't recommend it for tight spots, but it is very durable, very comfortable to use, and the black oxide finish is great for a long life for the ratchet and great for grip.

Excellent router, wireless signal slightly weak

This is an excellent router with rock solid performance. Unlike my previous Linksys BEFSR41 which needs to be reset every couple of weeks and drops game connections more often than I�d like. This one maintains game connection well. Router admin operations (most) does not drop any existing connections, unlike the Linksys which resets the router at the slightest configuration change. The SPI firewall works nicely and the latest firmware (beta as of this writing) supports UPNP (Windows Messenger Audio/Video). One nice feature is you can turn off the wireless to LAN bridge, so your roommates can surf the internet but can�t physically access any machine wired directly to the router.

On the down side, the wireless signal strength (with a Netgear wireless card) is a little on the weak side. Hardly a surprise considering it�s using the wireless card. You may re-consider if you need one that covers a lot of range. The telnet interface is also gone, but most people probably don�t care. At one time, my router started to emit a high pitch hiss, caused by long usage of the wireless portion. I disconnected the power for a while and now it seems to be ok. Maybe they used a cheap component somewhere.

There�s a different model called FR114P, essentially the same, except it lacks the wireless slot but adds a print server port. You may look into it if you don�t need wireless capabilities.

Excellent product but beware of the bad ports syndrome.

I bought this brand new FR114W last year end of July. It has worked like a charm ever since until recently. First let me give you the pluses._Automatic recognizes PPOE settings for easy authentication and setup._Firewall a plus nothing gets past it until you enter a ip:port map to your internal network._Logs, another plus, it gives details of all attempts of access to your current WAN ip. DDOS, ipspoofing etc. as well, it emails the logs acording to your rules..._syslog entries to any internal syslog capable software of all activities that the FR114W fires at the logs._It registers your dynamic ip address from the PPOE connection to DynDNS.org which is a big PLUS. Although they can have more options like noip.com_DHCP capable Lan Setup._Remote internet management. This is not recommended unless you restrict it to a particular ip but beware of ip spoofing._Wireless ready. WEP ready up-to 128 bit encryption, Trusted PCs by MAC although MediaAccessControl can be spoofed as well, but then they would have to try to guess the key for the encryption as well as the channel and if you have unchecked "SSID brodcast" and "Bridging to wired LAN" you should be pretty safe. Although they can still guess your pwd for the admin site of the FR114W and then your doomed._Block access to any site you wish. This is specially good if you want control any access to a particular site from your kids. Drawback is that you have to enter every site you want to block fqdn (fully qualify domain name ex. www.thissite.com) or ip address. But you have the control.

These are by far the most important features which are hard to find without a hefty price tag.

The negatives are_With the 802.11b MA401 wireless card, access range is weak. At my house a radius of 30ft. is pushing its limit._The 4 ports at the back of my FR114W unit went bad after a year of non-stop usage. But Netgear has a 3 yr. warranty on this units so they are replacing it, but choose from three options.1. send the unit and when we receive it we'll send you one back.2. $15 +/- and we'll send you one then you send us the bad one back.3. $25 +/- and we send you one overnight of course I have to send the bad one back.

Anyways, I did go with option 2 and I should be receiving the refurbished FR114W soon. Yeap, you read correctly "refurbished" which in the dictionary means "To make clean, bright, or fresh again; renovate." so I do not feel that bad.

Overall, I give this FR114W unit high ratings as I do not expect for everyone to go through the bad ports syndrome as I did. Also I hope that the refurbish unit does live up to my ratings of it.

Sturdy, clean design

I have owned this pattern for several years. Unless they've changed the materials or manufacturing, I happen to think the construction is quite sturdy. More so than some of the more "flowery" flatware patterns. This is NOT stamped cafeteria quality flatware. It feels substanial and weathers the dishwasher well. My set was USA made.

Too lightweight

I loved the design of this flatware, but I was very disappointed with the "feel" of it. I was looking for a simple design with a brushed metal look, and this seemed to match my criteria. It definitely has a lot of eye appeal. But I was shocked by how flimsy the pieces feel, they are much too light in weight. This flatware set did not meet my expectations. But if appearance is more important than the weight of flatware to you, this is a great looking set.

The pieces are not the heaviest out there, but I didn't think that they would be at this price. They are certainly not light. The pieces are the size I expected them to be also. The photograph captures the pieces well.The one thing I wasn't 100% sure of from the description was if they had a brushed finish. The handles do, and the rest is shiny. They look very nice, very simple, and very sturdy.

Loud fans

I've had this switch for 2+ years, Great box, no problems, except the fans were the first thing to go. Easily unbalanced, or the bearings go from being on 24/7. Probably not needed in a typical household situation, but I wanted to be ready for streaming video gadgets. Now that it's past the warranty, I'd like to where to get some quiet, low-speed replacement fans for this great box.

decent, but nothing spectacular

This is decent set of flatware. Its the first complete set I've ever purchased, so the only thing that I have to compare it against is the cheap garage sale stuff that I had in college. Overall, its a pretty decent buy...I bought it when it came with 4 bonus place settings...only the bonus place settings were the shiny finish and the regular 8 place settings were the the satin...I'm very picky about things like this and I was very upset. Another thing, the edges of the silverware are not smooth, they are sharper than I would like them to be. I was hoping for more, but at this price, I wasn't suprised when I was dissappointed by their lack of quality. If you are buying this to look nice and use it for family get togethers, unless you this is your first set of flatware, don't get it, save your money...if you are just starting out, its not a bad buy...go to a brick and mortar store though and buy it there, this deal is nothing special..plus that way you will get to see what you are buying if you don't like it, you don't have to get it. If I would have bought this at a brick and mortar store, I would have taken it back...just to much of a pain to send it back now otherwise I would. At least 8 of my 12 placesetting match. If I ever have more than 8 people over, I'll just keep the lights low.

Not quite what I had expected

It is extremely difficult ordering online when you have not already seen the product in person. We had hoped this Oneida product would be better than the last product we bought because we were paying more. However, the actual product did not look or feel as good as the online picture led us to believe. Suffice it to say that silverware is one of those things we will not order online again.

Excellent set for everyday use, good value for money

I bought this set in 2003 for less than $70, and the 53-piece came with the matching 20-piece as a freebie. I already had a more expensive and nicer looking set from Gorham for the 'more special' occasions and was looking for something to replace my daily use set, that was also very nice but was missing a few pieces thru the years.I am very pleased with this Oneida Satin Sand Dune set. It feels good (right weight for daily use), looks nice and washes in dishwasher machine very well. It leaves behind no marks after washing when the pieces touch each other unlike my more expensive Gorham set.I am just writing this feedback in 2005 because I happen to notice several negative comments on the page when I came back looking to buy the same set to send my son off to college with.
