43/8" NPT should be 1/4".
By Martin F. Moody
Impact wrench works great but I have two issues. First of all, the connector should be 1/4" NPT not 3/8". Secondly, it's harder than it should be to find the notch that the dial should be turned to in order to set the maximum torque. Having said that, this is a very good product and I would recommend it's purchase. It's hard to find impact wrenches like this one that can actually be used to tighten without the risk of applying too much torque. Most other wrenches that have torque limiting features don't specify what the maximum torque is at each setting. Without this information, you really have no idea how much torque your applying and the adjustment feature loses its value.

5NO PROBLEMS

I have used this with a small compressor to break lug nuts on mud-encrusted kart wheels and to drive large lag screws without bogging down. I am pleased and it goes with me to the cabin.

5Nice Grinder, Great Price!
By J. Mohrhardt
I work in the maintenance field from repairing machines to fabricating guards and brackets. I was going to buy a grinder from snap-on tools but didn't want to spend 350-400 dollars. Porter-Cable is a well known name so I purchased this one. I have used it only once but it seems to have plenty of power. It is lightweight and has a two position screw-in handle for better control. It also has a very nice polished finish.

4MOMO Very Good
By A Customer
I have tried pretty much every wheel there is. From low end Thrustmaster to the Microsoft Precision and Force Feedback, to BRD to even real high end stuff from Act Labs, etc.

For $$$$$, this is the best wheel on the market. The Logitech MOMO Force is being discontinued by Logitech, but is probably the finest wheel you can get outside of going very high end. ..... I'd grab these Force wheels while they are still selling them, with 4 solid ball bearings on the traversal and a very high quality force motor, it's a bargain.

The reasons it doesn't score perfectly are that the pedals are a matter of taste, many people don't like the swivel head on the pedals, and... and this is important - it has a nasty tendency to not be centered correctly and you have to use a hard to find utility to get totally centered.

5A guilty pleasure
By FreeAtLast
As a full-grown adult far closer to the grave than the cradle, I can't help but feel guilty over the pleasure of "racing" with this sturdily made wheel and peddles. Combined with the top-notch graphics of "Need for Speed, Porsch Unleashed" or "Colin McRae Rally 2.0," the simulation is top notch.

The rumble of the idling racing car waiting for the starting flag is conveyed through the wheel in the former title. Than, as advertised, the force feedback provides a credible feel for the road and for one's forays off road into the resistant gravel, the more slippery hard-packed mud, or the crunching snow.

I raced for some time with the wheel off-center -- which was no problem at all except for the aesthetic desire to see the wheel upright on the straight away. But, I finally decided to look for the "hard-to-find" utility to properly center the wheel -- a search that took less than a minute on the Logitech site. The utility downloaded within ten seconds and worked like a charm. So, now, I don't have even a nit to pick.

The pedals work fine, especially barefoot. The break and accelearator could be spaced apart an inch or two more, but even with my size 12's, they are quite workable.

The feel of both the pedals and the wheel give me the impression that they will hold up for a very long time.

What don't I like about this product? Well, for a 59-year old, it is embarrasing to own. But, that's a criticism of me, not the wheel. The difference between racing with the wheel and a joystick is the difference between swimming with shoes and swimming with flippers. If you enjoy autoracing games, you'll enjoy it all the more with this set-up.

The wires come out of the left-hand side of the pedals. If your CPU is on your right, the wires can be an annoyance. This minor problem can be addressed either by moving the CPU or by using some masking tape to stick the wires to the base front to avoid tempting them to get in the way of the pedals.

Is it worth the money? You decide. It does all you can expect it to do -- improve the feel of the race, improve your driving performance, and add considerably both to the realism and enjoyment of the experience. So, the question is, "How much is that worth to you?" not "Will the wheel satisfy?" It will satisfy if the guilt of the indulgence isn't too overpowering for you.

5Best wheel ever... I really mean it
By A Customer
I got this racing wheel 4 christmas because i got tired of using the keyboard and I didn't have a gamepad. (I have a joystick, but I only use it for flight sim 04. then my parents A.K.A Santa Claus bought me this cool wheel by logitech (I was really going to buy it with my credit card, besides I'm only 15 years old. The force feedback and vibration feedback is awesome I keep the force feedback on most of the time except wheen I'm drifting in Need For Speed Underground 2. This wheel doesn't take up much desk space at all which is good because my desk is kinda big. Whatever you do get the updated drivers from the site instead of plugging it in. Oh yeah don't forget to get the wheel centering utility from logitech.comI hope u like my reviewThanks

3Important Upgrade Available
By Rafael Palacios
According to the specifications this product is only available for Windows 95, 98, or NT and supports just a few GPS devices. But it is based on the same program (Topo) used in National Geographic State Series, which is compatible with windows 2000, XP and 60+ GPS receivers. You only need the free Topo upgrade available at Nevertheless, TrailSmart series was created by scanning Trails Illustrated maps, so don't expect the quality of USGS maps found in the State Series. In my opinion trails don't have enough accuracy in this product (I tried Yellowstone).

5Highly recommended for the average bacpacker
By Christopher
In my opinion, this software is great, especially for a backpacker who just wants to use a GPS as a "toy". There are 15 major national parks with 4 map views and more than adequate zoom capabilities. In addition, it is possible to create your own routes (by drawing them with your mouse), obtain elevation gains/losses, and automatically create and upload up to 30 waypoints per route to your GPS. There is a search engine to find various points of interest (mines, cemetaries, overlooks, etc) off the beaten path that will give you an exact waypoint to go exploring with a GPS unit. For the average person who likes the seclusion of the backcountry of national parks, who for the most part stays on the trails and assigned backcountry campsites, and who wants to use a GPS, this program is perfect.

3Limited use, but handy
By A Customer
The software itself isn't terrible, given that it feels like it was designed about six years ago. The next time I'm going to Yosemite, I'll be bringing a map printed by this app. The app has a very nice search feature, will import GPS waypoints, build excellent route elevation graphs, and has a system for adding wee icons to your maps.

That said, there are some pretty big problems with using the program for anything other than printing trail maps.

In the license agreement the maps you build, save, and print are referred to as "reproductions":

- Reproductions are only for in-house, in-business, or intra-organization purposes- National Geographic Holdings is leasing the reproductions to you; you do not own them- All reproductions must include copyright notices indicating that the maps are owned by NGH- Distribution of printed reproductions (for in-house use as mentioned above) is ok, but for digital reproductions you must contact NGH and get a supplemental license in writing

So, you can lease and print very nice hiking maps for use within your house, business, or company. Using the maps on web sites (even internal ones) or other digital documents is forbidden without entering license negotiations with NGH.

5Better than most, if not all, for the money
By A Customer
First, let me explain my experiences with DVD players. My first was a Sony s330, given to me a few years ago. Then a Toshiba 2109, then a Panasonic RV31 (discussed in another review below), and now this Pioneer 440. This is included so that those with some of the other models have a reference point.

The Sony, because it was my first, set the "standard" for good or bad. On my Toshiba 36in TV, which is supposed to be pretty decent, all of those players looked good. Besides the lack of component outputs and an occasional lipsync problem, the Sony was kept because its remote control was the best (though no lighted or glow-in-the-dark buttons), it has smooth FF and reverse, plus a convenient feature I'll mention later.

The Toshiba had a good image, but I hated the control (I think it has been improved in newer models), and I didn't like the jerky FF and reverse. So I sold it after almost a year.

I bought the Panasonic RV31 next, after reading many reviews on the net. It's apparently one of the few without a red-chroma bug, and its image is supposed to be very good. On my TV it did seem impressive, but I don't know if that was a placebo effect. However, it was returned because of one major problem: if I stop the movie and turn off the machine, it does not continue where it was stopped. Minor you may think, but my wife and I often watch movies late in the evening, and it's nice to continue where we left off before. Also, while it could play MP3s, it could only play them sequentially, not randomly. Kinda annoying. Also, while FF and reverse was smoother than the Toshiba, it was still inferior IMO to the Sony's. Or maybe I'm just used to the Sony.

That brings me to the Pioneer 440. Again, lots of research (its score is really high at audioreview.com), and the price is reasonable. The control is OK, not worse than the Panasonic, but I still prefer the Sony the best. Again, maybe I'm just used to it. The image is great, though again maybe it's the placebo effect. FF and reverse seems smoother than the Panasonic and close to the Sony's, if a little different. It resumes play at the same location after being stopped and turned off. Finally, it can play MP3's randomly.

If all that jabber above doesn't mean much, at least take the following advice. Unless you have a really nice HDTV (then you should get a progressive scan player!), the difference in image quality is not nearly as noticeable as remote control ergonomics and some of the convenience features. Finally, make sure the unit doesn't have any known bugs like the lipsync problem mentioned above, or problems playing certain movies.

5An excellent DVD player!
By Kray
After months of research, the pioneer DVD 440 came up top of my list as the most value-for-money in terms of performance, features and reliability. I've been using it for 6 months now, this is my review of the player:

Installation - Very simple, just plug the supplied cable to your TV and that's it.

Picture quality - Brilliant, sharp and crystal clear. You can also adjust/customise the video setting if you want to.

On-Screen Menu - Simple yet practical window-like menu. The text are fairly large and easy to read, unlike other DVD players that uses small graphics/icons which although looks nice but can be difficult to read and use. Got to admit, I almost didn't buy this player because (at first) I thought the on-screen menus are plain and even a little bit ugly, I mean JVC has this super flashy/high-tech menus and Panasonic 31k has this little icons thingies. But in the end I chose the Pioneer because of its easy to use menus and the features available. The features available on the JVC and Panasonic are rather limited. Flashy and good graphics is useless without ease of use and the features to go with it.

The on-screen display is very useful. By pressing the Display button on the remote displays all kind of info like elapsed time, remaining time, total time, transfer rate etc.

Playability - It plays EVERYTHING i.e. DVD/CD/VCD/SVCD/CD-R/CD-RW/MP3. I probably wont use all of them, but its good to know that this player can play them should the need arise.

Audio CD playback - Excellent sound quality. You can have program play, random play etc, all though its on-screen menus. You have to switch on the TV in order to listen to music (at least on my standard cable setting). I haven't figured out how to bypass the TV and go straight to my mini hifi yet.

MP3 - You can program play, random play etc etc...I don't use this feature much though...

Features - plenty of useful features, especially the a time search feature. Just press the "Time Search" button on the remote and you can jump to a specific title, chapter (press TS twice) or time (press TS 3 times) in the dvd. In VCD, you have to press 1 on the remote first before playing the movie to be able to have this feature. It has "memory A-B" so you can watch your favourite scene over and over again running in a loop.

Remote control - Does the job nicely, very comfortable to hold and good buttons layout. My only comment is that some buttons are small.

Absent features - this player does not have a zoom function. What it means is that if you have a normal (full screen 4:3) TV and you want to watch a movie in widescreen format, then you can only watch it in letter box format (black bars on top and below picture) or in 16x9 format (picture appeared "stretched"). Unless of course if your 4:3 TV has a zoom function. If you have a widescreen tv, then no problem.

Others - Very slim design, easy to put anywhere. Actually my player is a gold colour DV-533k, which is the DV440 equivalent for the Asian market. The only difference is that the DV-533k has added karaoke functions. Other than that, its exactly the same as the DV440, it even share the same user manual.

Conclusion: A great all-rounder dvd player that has great pictures, sound, plays everything and lots of features. If you are a first time buyer or an average movie-lover like me, then this is MORE than good enough for you.

5Amazing for the price!
By Eric M. Lee
I bought this player ... and I couldn't be happier. The only thing it doesn't have is progressive scan, butI think the DV444 has it. Great audio and video quality, playscdr/cdrw with ease. Plus the mp3 feature is great. Actuallykeeps the directory structure and shows id3 tags. Only eight chars but better than anything else out there.

I haven't found a downside yet!
