5Excellent Optics for Night
By Christopher D. Scott
I tried these binoculars out from a Steiner dealer before I purchased them. I use them for surveillance at night and can differentiate objects/persons easily at a quarter mile--sometimes even out to 1 mile! (If you have them mounted on a mono- or tripod). If you want to use them for anything closer than 80-100 feet, they're not intended for this, so you'll end up being frustrated. They have what Steiner calls 'auto-focus': essentially, you do not need to focus on anything past 80-100 feet. If you want optics to see objects close-up, go with something with a center focus. These binoculars are intended for seeing objects far away. As far as the clarity and ease of 'eye-strain', these are excellent optics! I also use them for stargazing and looking at the moon/celestial bodies, to which they are great for! Again, a good monopod or tripod is very helpful here with this. They're also built very strong (the body/frame is made of polycarbonate) and are easy to use. EVERYONE who has looked through them is very impressed. In my opinion, they're worth the money and you'll have them for 30+ years.

These binoculars were sent to my Marine son in Iraq. His one-word estimation of them was "Awesome". He is a hard person to impress so I'm happy with them.

5Incredibly Powerful and Flexible
By William Kendrick
The Sharp Zaurus Linux-based PDA is both extremely powerful, and easy to use.

The Zaurus's fast CPU, high quality full-color LCD, and excellent headphone sound output makes for an impressive photo viewer, MP3 and MOD music player, and video-clip displayer.

The slide-out keyboard has completely weaned me from using the handwriting system, which is unfortunate, because a lot of work was obviously put into it. Not only does the handwriting system have a help mode where you can practice strokes, but you can actually train it new, or alternate strokes for each character. But when you can type so quickly, why bother writing?

The dual expansion slots are great, allowing me to use an SD card for software installation, and still have my CF slot free for a RAM card full of MP3s or a network adapter.

Honestly, I was impressed by the capabilities of the Java system. In my opinion, Java has always been too slow and cumbersome to use, and the thought of running it on a 206MHz PDA seemed ridiculous. But from what I've seen of Java applications (even games!) running on the Zaurus, I'm beginning to realize there's a lot of potential in Java.

As a desktop Linux user, I'm also tickled to have the power and stability of my favorite OS underneath the hood. For the extremely geeky, you can get Java, C and C++ compilers that run ON the Zaurus!

The "Qtopia" environment and applications are as intuitive as they are nice to look at. The PIM applications have all the functionality I'm used to from my Palm device, and then some.

Until I can afford a wireless modem to stick in one of my Zaurus' two expansion slots, I've been using a Compact Flash ethernet dongle to get online while watching TV.

After using offline browsers on the Palm, I was shocked to find a full-fledge, desktop-quality browser built right into my Zaurus: Opera.

Opera's zoom-out feature can't be lived without. Frustratingly, most websites assume you have a screen capable of at least 800x600. On a small PDA screen, this would mean constantly scrolling left and right as you try to read. Under Opera, you can zoom out to get a better overview of the page, and still be able to read all of the text!

I've only used the Sync software (Qtopiadesktop - I used the Linux version) a few times, since my pattern for PDA usage is to use them as stand-alone devices. It was quite intuitive, though, as it looked and felt just like a larger version of the PIM software built-into the Zaurus.

Finally, while there's obviously very little 3rd party software for the Zaurus so far, since it just came out, there's been what seems to be exponential growth. I've already installed almost 20 new applications, including games, a streaming Internet radio player, and an embedded version of the popular Linux browser, "Konqueror."

Software installation is usually a snap, too. Just as with Palm, all that's usually needed is one file downloaded off a website. Run the graphical installer, wait a few seconds, and the new app. is there, ready to run!

All in all, it's a great system. Powerful and slick hardware, in a beautiful form-factor, running powerful and slick software.

5The best I've seen or used
By A Customer
I have to admit, I was very skeptical about this PDA because of the Linux OS. I have been an avid user of Pocket PC since its inception. I've had an Ipaq and most recently, and Audiovox Maestro. Both machines were awesome however they were never for me because I am very input intensive and I hated the on screen keyboard and the graffiti. So I decided to take the plunge with the new Zaurus. I couldn't be happier. The screen is the best I've seen and Linux is easy to get used to. In my opinion the keyboard is perfect for my needs. Thumb typing is a snap and I now don't feel like I have to enter every new contact or new appointment on my desktop first, then sync with my PDA. The Opera Web browser is also very nice with the ability to shrink/enlarge the webpage as needed. Word, Excel and Powerpoint compatible programs round out my needs plus there are plenty of extras to boot. Sharp did a great job and I highly recommend this PDA over the others.

5Pocket Laptop!! (SL-5500 users: Download the ROM v3.10 now!)
By nagappa
First and foremost, if you are looking for purely Personal Information Management (PIM) functions and not generally inclined towards Linux, then do yourself a favor and buy yourself a Palm Pilot.

The Zaurus is basically a mini Linux workstation with a lot of functionality you would normally find only on a desktop. With the Zaurus, you can:* Browse the web with a scalable and full featured browser* Read and edit MS-Office documents (Word, Excel and Powepoint)* Write and execute scripts and programs (including Java)* Play music and video* Control your desktop Windows PC (using VNC software)

It is so powerful that you can actually use it as a Web or file server (using Apache and Samba). I use my Zaurus to administrate my Linux server and Oracle database server when I am away from my desk.

Plus there are tons of applications, utilities, games, etc., that you can download. Zaurus has a very active user community forum (check the links from the Sharp Zaurus official web sites) where you can get a lot of useful tips from.

Having said all that, the PIM functions that came with the Zaurus were pretty poor compared with the Palm Pilot. This lead me to hang on to my Palm Vx for dear life. I even took the drastic step of downloading and installing a Palm Pilot emulator (called QPose) onto my Zaurus. The performance hit on the Zaurus was so bad that I had to delete QPose and instead carry both my Palm Vx and Zaurus with me.

However, now that Sharp has released a new ROM (v3.10, as of May 15, 2003, see below) the PIM functions have vastly improved. So much that I am now inclined to keep my Palm at home and take only the Zaurus along.

Upon getting your Zaurus, do yourself a favor and install the terminal and file manager applications that come in the CD. The terminal application enables you to do a lot of tweaking and is mandatory if you plan to use the Zaurus to its full capabilty. It actually comes with a basic Linux shell environment and comes with such neat utilities as vi editor, ftp and telnet clients, ping, and a large number of Linux/Unix tools.

Another application I found very useful is called "rotation". It enables you to rotate the application screens by 90 degrees, making such things as web browsing, file editing and using the terminal appication a lot more pleasing and functional. You can download the "qpe-rotation" and "qt-embedded-rotation" files (ipks) from the ZaurusSoft website.

Also, an important suggestion to existing SL-5500 users:Sharp has just released the latest ROM (v3.10, May 15, 2003) which makes the SL-5500 look and behave like the newer SL-5600. I *strongly urge* SL-5500 users with the old ROM (v2.38) to download and install this new ROM. The user interface with the new ROM is a lot cleaner and neater and has more stable applications (including a vastly improved Opera browser and much better PIM applications).

5Form and Function
By Travis J Smith
Not only does this rack look sharp, but it's extremely functional as well. I like simple straightforward design, plus I have a lot of stainless steel accents in my kitchen. This rack fit the bill perfectly.

The title sums up the product: a stainless steel oval pot rack. It is constructed of heavy duty stainless steel. Besides the rack itself, you get a few hooks to hang pots from (hooks are designed to prevent things from falling on your head), and the chain shown in the picture. As the description states, you do NOT get any mounting hardware, so plan on making a trip to you local home improvement store to get the parts to attach the rack to your ceiling. This rack is fairly heavy, plus the weight of pots, so plan on attaching it to your ceiling joists.

This is well worth the money spent on it, if it fits your design style.

5Quality Pot Rack -- Not Trivial to Install
By Online Aficionado
This rack, made in China -- not USA as the description suggests, is meant to anchor to four points in the ceiling, contrary to the image on the box. I purchased 4 stainless 1/4" x 4" screw eyes and 4 2" "S" hoooks rated to cary about 120 pounds. I attached the rack to my TJI ceiling joists which can handle a maximum 1/4" diameter screw, according to their specs. It took me a couple hours to find the joists, mark points centered with my cooking island, drill pilot holes, and assemble and attach the rack. The appearance of the rack is a darker stainless steel, and goes nicely with stainless cookware.

1Extremely Disappointed!
By A Customer
I bought this 18x36 stainless steel pot rack thinking I was purchasing the same rack as I would in any store. Come to find out this rack sold on Amazon is different as they do not have notches (as illustrated on the assembly instructions included with my pot rack) on the two u-bars (the straight pieces that connect to the curved end pieces) making it impossible to hang pots on these two inside bars. The only inside bar you can hang pots is the middle one. I called Calphalon about this defect and was told that these racks sold to Amazon are all this way. If I wanted one with the notches on the two u-bars I would have to return the one to Amazon and buy one a Kohl's! I am upset and very disappointed. They are not selling to Amazon what you would be getting from a walkin Dept. Store and in my opinion misrepresenting the product. I was offered no other solution during that phone call. I have now written a letter to them stating the situation and they are working on it. They have since sent me a replacement but had the same problem. It is a nice product but not totally efficent.

4Has ONE FLAW...beware
By Lee
I've owned this phone for 5 years now. Still works well and has good sound. One problem that has happens ever couple of years is the cradle that holds the hand piece eventually becomes spongy and less springy, until one day, it wont spring back into the upright position anymore. I removed the screws on the upper back of the phone ( total of 4 or 5 flat headed and 4 round headed ( the ones by the 3 switches for the ringer, loudness, etc) and carefully lifted it off because some wires will still be attached. When I looked inside to where the cradle goes into the body, I saw a silver "pin" about 1 1/2" long had worked its way loose. This pin holds the spring and arm of the cradle together. All I did was push the pin back and aligned it with the middle hole of the cradle arm and we were back like new. I guess the up and down motion of picking up and hanging up the receiver eventually works this pin loose to the point where it completely wiggles out of it's slot in the cradle mechanism. This time, I placed a little piece of tape over the pin to hold it in it's place. Took about 2 minutes to fix....and being a woman, if I can do it, anyone can.

5Well made telephone with nice appearance
By D. Ferrick
Phone works well. Was easy to install and work. The only thing I do not like is that the ringer is a modern digital sound. The old country wall phone this one replaced had a more appropriate bell ringer. Happy with the phone all the same. Seller shipped it right out and I do recommend.

It is very quiet, good picture and sound, easy to set up. It is not the fancy but does all the basics very well plus plays ep and SVHS tapes with good sound and pictures. The best quality for it that is quiet when operating. The only fault of it is that it lacks universal remote.

5Great, just great!
By T.J.
Look at where the red part meets the gold, there's a lip there. This lip lets you rest the red part over the edge of a board and it won't tip over or move; it's a great feature. Because this tool is so accurate; I don't keep it in my apron, which means I don't use it a lot. However, I mainly bought it to keep my tools aligned, which it does perfectly. If you can get over the outragous price, you'll love it, along with their regular square too. Incra is hard to beat when it comes to precision instruments, and they've done a fine job here.

5Incra Precision
By OHtoolman
Solid, precise, a bit spendy, but worth it. I have this one and the 90 deg. 7" model. This one is rather large to keep in a shop apron, but is excellent for setting up machines which is the main reason I purchased it. Get the pair. Set up your machines to be dead on. You wallet will soon recover and life in the shop will be good.

5Incredible instrument ! A must for every shop !
By Milind Patil
Very well designed, a lot of metal, superb craftmanship ! Feels really good in hands. And the most important, the 45 degree accuracy is dead on ! I tested it on my Starrett 36" straight edge (I drew a line by butting it against one egde, the flipped over to the opposit edge and drew another line on the top of the first line). Incredibly accurate.I didn't check the 90 degree accuracy and do not really care since I also have purchased Incra Square (still in transit, haven't received it). I am totally convinced that the 90 degree square will be just as accurate as this one !Close your eyes and buy it. You will not go wrong with this one.

5Exactly As Described - A Precision Tool
By Fred Anonymous Smith
I have used the Incra GSQR7 on several occasions (several friends have one), appreciate the design, and cannot understand the less than enthusiastic reviews. Did those reviewers not read the product description before purchase? The manufacturer made no claim about a "one piece design" tool. Instead, the claim is a single precision BLADE which extends fully into the handle area as opposed to conventional two-piece designs which attach a separate blade to a separate handle.Did the reviewers not look at the picture and realize the handle grips, with obligatory screws, are obviously attached separately to that single monolithic blade/body? With conventional two-piece designs, the often separate grips are attached to a separate handle attached to a separate blade. For truly precision results with this tool, only the blade surface (not the handle grips) should contact the work material (same with the Starrett 20-6 and similar precision designs). This requires a minor adjustment to the average work flow (the blade tilted slightly with the inside of that blade used for marking). If extreme precision is not needed at any given moment, the tool can be used normally (blade flat with handle grips against the work material). This latter use will often still provide above average results with these precision-oriented tools.I have compared this square to the much more expensive Starrett 20-6 owned by an associate (a fanboy unwilling to accept anything without the Starrett name stamped on it) and found no difference in either accuracy or workmanship. The Starrett 20-6 uses the same single blade design, with only the blade (not handle grips) used for ultimate precision. No idea how "involving two dimensions" (the definition of "planar" mentioned by another reviewer) enters into this. And, contrary to another comment, Incra does indeed provide the applicable specification - "angular accuracy is guaranteed to be less than 0.001" maximum deviation from nominal at any point along the full length of the blade." This is the same specification provided for the much more expensive Starrett 20-6.Finally, a comment was made about scratches or marks perhaps caused by electrodes during anodizing. Absent damage or errors, there are no manufacturing imperfections which will negatively impact the performance of this tool during it's intended use.

5Very well designed and built
By Akimo
The big deal about this square is that the inside lip on the handle lets you set it down on an edge and it will support itself! No other square that I know of does this.

Also, I tested their claim of squareness and found that it is dead on.

A perfect tool

5Pricey, but worth it if you want precision
By T.J.

Because this tool is so accurate; I mainly bought it for aligning tools, which it has done flawlessly. Whenever I need a precision cut, this is the tool I reach for. If you can get over the price, you'll love it. It's dead on square too, inside AND out. Avoid the squares that have wood handles as changes in humidy change the squareness! Incra is hard to beat when it comes to precision instruments, and once again they've done a fine job.
