5A Pratical Cook and Mom
By A Customer
My family gave me this set for Mothers Day. I really love it. The heating is very even in this pan. I never need to use heat over med to cook. I can cook 1 1/2 pounds of pasta. The insert holes are too small for pasta to pass through. When lifting pasta out you have to do so slowly to allow the water to drain into the pan. I then leave the insert at an angle to serve from the pot this keeps the pasta warm. I was able to cook 6-8 ears of corn-on-the-cob by standing the ears on end. I can cook large quantities of vegetables and drain to serve without effort. The stockpot is great. It is deep enough to make jams without the jam splashing out of the pan onto the stove like my other stockpot. The set is too big to fit in the dishwasher with the dishes from the meal, but it does fit. I am able to clean it easily after cooking, even cooked jam without much effort at all. This set is a very practical addition to my kitchen.

5Everything I Wanted
By NuJoi
I have been eyeing this pot for years! I thought it could be replaced by the All-Clad 12-Quart Stainless Multi Cooker with Steamer Basket, but no dice. The multicooker has an aluminum base and takes a while to heat up. Also, unless you're cooking for an army, it's really big. I had been using the All-Clad Stainless Asparagus Pot with Steamer Basket, but it only works for 1-2 people. I needed something in between those two pots! The pasta pentola is perfect. The seven quart size is nice. I love that it's tall versus wide. Because it is fully clad (aluminum on the bottom and sides), it heats more effeciently than the multicooker and asparagus pot.The insert works beautifully. It drains well and after draining, you can tilt it over the pot to keep the pasta warm as you finish other items for the dish.I love that everything is dishwasher safe. You can use Bar Keeper's friend to keep everything shining like new. All-Clad Stainless cookware will last you a lifetime. If there are ever any problems, these come with a lifetime warranty. If you often cook pasta for a crowd and are an avid soup maker, this pot is worth the investment. I suggest purchasing it over the 6-qt stock pot and the multicooker. If the choice is between this and a Dutch oven, get the Dutch oven and put this on your wish list.

4Good idea but in practice not used much
By A Customer
I got this cool looking pot and insert thinking, Wow! I won't have to strain the noodles. But then after using it a bit, I realized that I don't need to heat 7qts of water to feed my family. And that the insert doesn't sit far enough down in the bottom of the pan to really hold enough pasta. I know this is a contradiction but that's what this pot combo is. It's really too wide for asparagrass, although if I have enough people it works. It's a bit too samll for steaming corn on the cob, as I tend to heat 2 ears per person. Also lifting the pot full of noodles isn't a thing to do over the stove. It's move the pot to the sink and lift there. 7qts of water is heavy and this isn't a task to be taken by smaller cooks.

On the great side, the 7qt pot turns out to make great soups. It fits the small burner at the back of the stove. The soups rarely burn even without stirring. And the steamer works for that big batch of clams I have once a year. So while I won't give it away, I'm not sure I would buy it on a second time aroound. (The plain 7qt stock pot, now that I would get.)

I still get a lot of "Wow's" from people who see it in my kitchen but is that worth the extra $...?

So consider getting just the stock pot. (Unless you like lots of clams/mussels etc.)

5Great for Turkey Soup and making jam
By A Customer
No boiling over the top with this pan on your stove. It takes a bit longer to heat up than a smaller pot but when that jam gets a roiling boil it doesn't splatter all over the kitchen. Also if you do large quanities of applesauce this pan is great. Or cook 3 dungeness crabs? No problem, 10 ears of corn, no problem. Simmer a turkey carcass, no problem. The only thing wrong is the pot is big on the shelf but hey, its worth it. Great pot, only wish they made a 16 in stainless for making beer.

5Excellent Pot

What can I say? Built like a tank and heats up fast. Easy to clean. Just follow the tips for cooking with stainless and you'll be fine. And definitely buy some Barkeepers Friend to get any stains out. Works like magic.

3Warning : Avoid CSN
By UbiMea
This pot is well liked by Cooks Illustrated. We would love to get it someday. Our 12" All Clad frying pan is terrific, and no doubt this pot is too. Pricey, but worth it.However, DO NOT make our mistake and order this from the third party dealer listed here as CSN Stores. We ordered the 12 Quart All Clad on 12/13/2010 from CSN Stores (at the time, they had the best price). On 12/20/10 we inquired about shipping; CSN advised it would ship promptly as promised. On 12/23/10 we made a second inquiry about shipping, and was again promised by CSN it would ship on time. On 1/4/2011, still no pot, so we made a third inquiry and telephoned CSN and again, I was misled that the item would ship in 24 hours. On 1/9/2011 I called Amazon to file a claim. For the entire month, this item was listed as available for delivery by CSN at their own Website, albeit at a higher price. On 1/10/2011, in apparent retaliation for my Amazon claim, CSN cancelled my order without explanation. (Amazon has assured us that our credit card will not be charged)We are sorry to post this here, (since it is not technically a review of the All Clad pot), but b/c CNS Stores cancelled our order without explanation, this is the only way to warn the Amazon buying public about the terrible service and awful (non)shipping and business practices of CSN.Get this Stock pot, but order it directly, and only, from Amazon.

5Even better than the 6 quart!
By Shelly and Roy
When purchasing our original All-Clad cookware, we explicitly went for the 6-qt Dutch oven/stockpot, since we are a family of two. While the 6-qt has served us well for several years, I discovered I'd need the slightly greater volume when making some fruit preserves this summer. So I bought the 8-qt.

It's been a joy to own and use. Unlike the 6-qt, whose handles get a mite warm after long stove-top cooking, the 8-qt handles rarely get hot, even after cooking on a gas range for a couple of hours. I don't regret our original purchase decision, but I do like the 8-qt version a bit better than the 6-qt now.

5A Co-Dependent Relationship
By Boris Yeltsina
I'm unnaturally dependent on my All Clad 8 quart -- so much so that I bought a second. Soup cooks like a dream in it, and it's great for making stock -- wide enough to brown the chicken and onions before adding the water. Unlike my old cruddy Revereware, you don't get great globs of stuck stuff on the sides that forces you to lose arm muscle scrubbing it off. Cleaning is easy with All Clad-- a must for someone without a dishwasher. Will this addiction ever cease??!!!

5All-Clad Stainless 8-Quart Stockpot
By Mrs. Romano
Both the 6 and 8 quart stockpots are must haves for your All Clad cookware collection. The 6 is great for sauce, a pound of lasagna or rigatoni, soup or stew and the 8 quart is a must have for my favorite meatballs that I cook in my sauce with sausage and steak. At first I didn't think I would need both but now that I do I can imagine doing all the Italian cooking that I do with out them. I can get my sauce and meatballs cooking in the 8 quart and start boiling lasagna noodles in the 6 quart. I love them both. These pans are made very well, heat evenly, are very easy to clean and are designed to last. All Clad cookware is one of the most expensive lines around and it is worth every penny, it really is lifetime cookware (backed by a lifetime warranty). This pan is a definite must have. Very, very highly recommended! A+++!...

5Top of the line cookware
By Mark Borchers
Heavy cast or rolled aluminum is the optimum material for pots and pans. Based on this fact, Magnalite cast aluminum gourmet cookware was the best you could get from about the 1950's through the '70's. However, there are some problems with aluminum as a cooking surface. Some foods react with it and cause discoloration; it's hard to clean, a fact that became glaringly obvious with the advent of non-stick surfaces. And there have been reported health issues related to cooking food in contact with aluminum (experts currently assess the risks as insignificant).

All-Clad is the heir apparent to the position of "creme de la creme" among cookware. The inner layer of metal is aluminum to evenly conduct heat throughout the pan. The cooking surface is stainless steel, the ideal surface because it is non-reactive, easy cleaning, and more durable than nonstick compounds. All Clad offers a variety of exterior finishes to suit your taste. Finally, this line is WELL BUILT. It will outlast anything else in the kitchen.

This may be the most expensive cookware but it's also the best. For a person who doesn't have the physical strength to handle very heavy cookware, this may not be a good choice. For anyone else who is willing to pay for it, this is what you want to cook with.

5'TIS THE SEASON FOR SOUPS AND STEWS
By Gail Cooke
Nothing tastes better on a blustery winter's day than a steaming bowl of homemade soup or stew. And, nothing is better to prepare it in than this All-Clad Stockpot.

It seems that a stockpot is one kitchen item that never wears out, so I'd been making do with what we had. But, when I was fortunate enough to be gifted with this stockpot from All-Clad I couldn't believe the difference!

It has a thick conductive base that spreads the heat evenly, not just where the burner might hit it. And, it has solid stainless steel walls that keep the heat in. The lid fits snugly, and it simmers away for hours emitting the most delicious aromas.

The brushed exterior gives it a great look, and it is made to conform to All-Clad's estimable high standards. Soup's on!

5Fits my needs to a Tee! Buy It!
By B. Marold
I got this pot to replace an old 5 quart teflon lined aluminum pot of similar shape but with plastic handles, which kept it from the oven without extraordinary measures. The old pot simply did not heat up very quickly or evenly and it's dark interior made it more difficult to see what was going on with braises or pasta cooking. So, I was often lugging out my 8 quart Le Creuset dutch oven when the smaller lighter pot would be the perfect size, but for the plastic handles.I have used it a few times since receiving it, and it meets every expectation, even outperforming a similarly sized 5 quart Calphalon pan which was my old favorite when I bunked with a gas range. This is an incredibly uselfu size and shape, and worth the cost if you cook a lot.Highly recommended.

5"Jack of All Trades" Pan
By P. Mckay
I love All Clad cookware & was in the market to add to my collection. Initially, I wanted to buy the 14" fry pan, a wonderful item. The store owner asked me how I would use the 14" fry pan & I told her I wanted to fry & saute in it. I also mentioned I'd try to use it to braise as well. Given the fact I needed a large pan to serve mulitple purposes, the owner recommended I consider purchasing this 6 qt. saute pan instead. The pan has a diameter as wide as the 14" fry pan, & can be used for frying, sauteing & braising. Additionally, the cover is included in the price of this 6 qt. saute pan, unlike the 14" fry pan, which doesn't come w/a cover. I'm aware of the differences between a fry vs saute vs braising pan, but not being a purist & also wanting to conserve on storage space & cost, I bought this 6 qt saute pan. The store owner was correct, I use this pan all the time & it works perfectly as a fry, saute or braise pan. Given it's an All Clad, it has 1st class performance for heating quickly & evenly, cooking perfectly & cleaning up in a flash. Not to mention its beauty & perfect constuction, along with a lifetime guarantee. Don't hesitate to buy this pan!!!

4Huge Pan requires gigantic stove and strong arms
By Bob Carpenter
Although I am not a small man, when I came face to face with the 6-quart saute pan on a friend's huge Wolf stove, I felt small. Very small. And weak. While I can easily saute in my own medium-weight 10 inch saute pan, the All-Clad 6-Quart pan requires two hands just to move; it took a deep breath and concentration to actually saute (which means "to jump" in French, and refers to the way you shake the ingredients to cook them evenly). The 6-quart saute pan is so wide that even on the Wolf, it crowded surrounding burners. So don't plan on getting four of these and cooking for an army on a civilian stove; you'll be lucky if it doesn't obstruct all your burners if it's centered on one.

On the plus side, the beauty of a 6-quart 13.5" pan is that you get about 65% more surface area than with a 4 quart 10.5" pan because it's the square of the radius that determines the area and 13.5*13.5=182, whereas 10.5*10.5=110. The quantity that can be cooked at once is limited by surface area if you don't want to crowd veggies or meat, which steams them rather than browning them, resulting in unbrowned meat, soggy mushrooms, etc.

Like other All-Clad stainless, the 6 quart saute pan is not only gorgeous, it's engineered to withstand anything you and your kitchen are likely to throw at it. As Anthony Bourdain so aptly put it in "Kitchen Confidential", there should be no doubt as to which one will dent if your pan hits your head. Unlike All-Clad's impractical Master-Chef and Copper-Chef lines, the stainless ones can be scoured and tossed in the dishwasher without damage. Though do be careful of doing things like heating salt by itself, which can pit stainless.

In conclusion, if you have Popeye arms and a Donald Trump stove, and you cook in volume, this is for you. For the rest of us, the 10 1/2 inch 3 quart or 4 quart models will be more practical. We can always use more than one pan.

5Party Time
By MICHAEL ACUNA
How do you pan fry 6 thick Rib Eye Steaks at the same time so as not to miss a minute of the Academy Awards? You do them in this 6 quart saute pan. That way your time away from your guests and the TV are kept to a minimum.Fire the burner up to super high, pour in a bit of Peanut oil and wait till the smoke begins, throw in the steaks, put on the lid, brown for approx 3 minutes on each side and finish off in a hot oven for 15 minutes. De-glaze the pan with some good Pinot Noir, add butter, salt and pepper for a quick sauce. It's a snap to pan fry in this manner in these pans because of the superior heat distribution: no hot or cold spots...even heat throughout.Another great thing about the All-Clad Stainless line is that clean up is very easy: accomplished with some hot water, soap and a sponge.

4Taller sides are a nice advantage over the 3-Quart version
By E. Svoboda
I own the 3-Quart version of this pan, purchased in a set before I knew better, and have used this 4-Quart. I prefer this one because its taller sides make doing a true sauté (which means "jump" in French) of the ingredients a bit easier. Taller sides like this are what are found in most European sauté pans. The previous review is inaccurate in that both the 3-Quart and 4-Quart All-Clad pans are identical in diameter, which can be verified at All-Clad's web site.

Per All-Clad, the LTD and Master Chef lines use thicker aluminum so if you don't need the ease of maintenence and durability that comes with a stainless-steel exterior, I would suggest you consider these other lines for their more even (i.e. better) heating performance.

Also, there are higher-end cookware lines out there than All-Clad. Don't think that All-Clad is the "best" available. Brands such as Demeyere and Bourgeat have features such as more durable exterior finishes (Demeyere Atlantis, etc.), thicker aluminum cores, more comfortable handles (an All-Clad weakness), and even full copper (more conductive than aluminum). These come at a higher price than All-Clad. On the other hand, there are less-expensive product lines such as Calphalon Commercial (often cheap on Amazon.com!) and brands used in commercial kitchens like Sitram.

Still, this is a nice pan and I don't think you can really go wrong with All-Clad. It's the best commonly available at consumer kitchen shops and easy to order on Amazon.com.

5A Kitchen Essential
By Andrea S.
I purchased the 4-quart saute pan a few months ago, and I have used it at least 3 times a week since then. I agree with the other reviewers that the taller sides are a big advantage over the 3-quart pan. This allows you to toss your cooked pasta into the sauce, poach meats and do various other tasks without worrying about the liquid spilling over, which is what concerned me about the 3-quart pan. I found that the 6-quart pan was far too large for my burners. I have cooked pasta sauces, chicken breasts, chicken thighs, meatballs, poached chicken, you name it, in this pan. It is extremely versatile and worth the price and the amount of space it takes up in the cabinet. If you have limited kitchen cabinet space, as I do, I think that this saute pan, a large non-stick skillet (All-Clad has a great one in its stainless collection), the 3- or 4-quart sauce pan and a large Le Creuset french oven is all you need for most stovetop cooking jobs.

5A Southern Cook in Florida
By A Customer
I am working on building my collection of All-Clad Stainless Cookware and purchased this item a few months ago. I have really enjoyed it and use it often! It is a great size for preparing family size meals such as Chicken Alfredo or something simple like a big hamburger helper. This cookware is a bit heavy (a good feature not bad) so having two helper handles is an advantage. I like the 4qt. size which covers the large burner of my stove. (I find the 3 qt. saute pan a little small for family size meals.) All-Clad is a great product and worth the extra money. Do try using the Barkeepers Friend for cleaning which is recommended by All-Clad. It really makes it shine!
