5Excellent GPS for snowmobiling
By Geronimo
Although the 176C is not intended to be used in cold weather, and on a snowmobile, it does quite well. I have one rubber mounted behind the windshield, and have it wired to sled power. For really cold weather, I made a bonnet to go around the GPS, and wired in a heating element from a handgrip warmer to keep it from freezing. This does quite well until the temp drops to about -30 degrees farenheit. The display is very readable in direct sunlight. In lower light conditions, I just leave the backlight on high, and you can see it just fine. The marine mount that comes with the unit is plenty sturdy enough for use on the sled. There is nothing like being able to check your position without stopping (just don't do it while riding in a wooded area). When you do stop to take a break, the quick disconnect of the marine mount makes it easy to remove it. Also, you will want to use lithium batteries in cold weather, as alkalines do not work in the cold.

5SICKsickSICK...and COOL!
By C. Eason
This is the coolest "toy" I own. It's sick and disturbing! Not for the kiddies! When you move near it it makes chainsaw sounds, and the sound of poor Sally (from the movie) SCREAMING FOR HER LIFE!!! This is truly demented! I keep mine in my living room!

5Intimidating!!!
By Edward III
I ordered over 8 18 inch figures and this one just made it to my place. I pulled him out of the box and was really impressed he has a ton of detail and is very heavy for his size he is one of the best built toys I have recieved. Simply put this toy is intimidating!!! His chainsaw is much larger in real life than in these pictures. This is an excellent purchase and the last major classic villian I needed to aquire!

5My favorite 18 inch Movie Maniacs figure!
By D. Hensley
I have four 18 inch horror figures, but this Leatherface figure is my favorite. I like this figure because this figure has really nice details like splattered blood on the apron, mud on the boots, and realistic face. The Chainsaw has great detail with more splattered blood on the blades and you can put it in his hands in different positions, but be careful on the chainsaw handle broke on one of the sides. He stands up very good better than other 18 inch figures and he is quite heavy too. This guy is kind of hard to find these days unless you can get lucky and find one from someone like I did. If you can find this figure I recommend this 18 inch Leatherface, he is definitely my favorite 18 inch action figure.Go out and buy him now!

4One big knife
By Tom L.
This is a great knife, which I happen to think is well balanced and offers a lot of stability. It is however a very large knife which some might find unwieldy or too heavy. It is significantly bigger than the standard Classic 10" chef's knife.More importantly, because of the knifes height (width), the blade itself is very wide and would not fit in any standard knife block I could find. In the end I bought the super knife block from Williams-Sonoma and took a router to widen the cleaver slot.

5The ultimate kitchen knife
By taqmantim
I must say this is one fantastic knife. It is the knife I usually use when prepping a meal (sandwiches don't count). When I purchase a knife, I always personally sharpen it, so I can't really speak for the factory edge, but it accepts and holds an edge wonderfully. Having the extra wide knife (along with added heft) has more of a curve to it allowing for an easy chopping motion. I have purchased Henckel Pro S in the past and, after noticing a couple of flaws that passed their QC in my expensive knives, I will never purchase one without personally inspecting it first. Wusthof has much better QC so I have no problem ordering them through the mail.FYI-This knife needs a large cutting board and a serious knife block to hold it. I personally use the Wusthof 25-slot "mega" block and it fits in all three of the top chef knife positions. Overall this knive is an investment, but you will love it!

5Fantastic blade
By GearGuy
Don't let the size or price intimidate you, this is a great knife for the kitchen. I'd been using an 8-inch chef's knife for years because that's what came in a set. But it left a lot to be desired for chopping up even medium size quantities of food. This 10-inch Wusthof has been one of the best upgrades for our kitchen. The handle feels just right and the balance is superb. The shape of the blade is perfect for a rocking motion that lets you quickly chop and mince. Of course the quality of the steel is legendary so this knife holds an edge and will last. Considering how frequently this knife gets used in the kitchen, it's a great investment.

5The Work Horse
By Dave
I prefer the eight-inch knife over a ten for weight reasons and the wide series gives lots of knuckle-slide area for repeated chopping tasks. I've owned Wusthof-Trident knives since before graduating from culinary school over ten years ago. In fact, I still own all but one that I still use daily (One was stolen). The knives hold an edge better than any other I've used (and I've tried 98% of what's out there), stand up to continuous use and are comfortable enough to use all day long. You'll never be sorry owning Wusthof-Trident knives.

5Must have kitchen knife
By A Customer
If there's one knife you HAVE to have in your kitchen, this is it. The classical french chef's knife in 8", double wide. Handles like a charm, has great balance, and has a foil thin edge for easy slicing. This has slightly better balance than the 10", which may be a bit large for domestic purposes. I use this one for 90% of all my kitchen tasks. [It's]pricey but worth it. Anyway, if you buy quality, you'll only cry once.

5Wusthof 8" wide blade chef's knife 4584/20
By StevieQ
I have a good collection of high-end knives dating from 10-15 years ago, and in my opinion, this is one of the best 8" cook's knives on the market. I prefer the extra width and heft of the 4584/20's wider blade over the narrower and lighter 4582/20 model. This knife has good heft and the handle is very comfortable and I prefer this handle over the Grand Prix's Also, because of the extra width of this knife, the edge is very thin, and that makes the blade feel very sharp when cutting vegetables.

There are knives on the market today with fancier steels, such as VG-10 on the Kershaws and "Trizor 10X" on the Chef's Choice. I have not tried these other fancy knives, and I am even comfortable in believing their claims that these new steel formulations will hold an edge much better. The fancy steels have a Rockwell-C hardness of 59-60, compared to the Wusthof's 56, but when it comes to balance, feel, and just plain old cutting performance, I doubt the Kershaws and the Chef's Choice knives can beat this Wusthof wide blade 4584/20.

As for this knife's edge-holding ability, I do pamper my knives and I don't dump them in the sink or dishwasher. I am careful with using knives on only wooden cutting boards. As such, my knives stay very sharp for a long time. A few seconds of touching up on the steel once every couple of weeks is all that's required to keep it ultra razor sharp.

Maybe the VG-10 and Trizor 10x steel knives don't need to be touched up once every couple of weeks to stay sharp? Somehow, I doubt that.

Product Description

There is a good reason you can find a SANTOS coffeemaker in nearly every Scandinavian home, this vacuum brewing system has been fascinating coffee lovers for over sixty years. In the fifties, Peter Bodum, the father of today's owner, Jorgen Bodum, imported an French vacuum coffee maker and sold it on the Danish Market. Although he found it both unsatisfactory and expensive, he was convinced that the vacuum brewing system was an excellent way to brew an exquisite cup of coffee. Thus, the first Bodum Santos vacuum coffee maker was born. In collaboration with Danish designer Kaas Klaeson, Peter Bodum developed what we know today as the SANTOS, establishing the credo: ‘good design doesn’t have to be expensive’. The magic of the Santos holds both adults and children spellbound as they watch the boiling water rush from the bottom glass jug to the upper one where it gets mixed with freshly ground coffee. After a few minutes off the stovetop, a vacuum forms in the base which pulls rich black coffee through a filter and back into the bottom jug. This captivating process combines the ideal water temperature with just the right brewing time and makes for superb results. Whatever your preferred coffee and roast, the Santos vacuum system brings out the very best aromas in your cup.

5Wonderful coffee is the reward for patience ...
By JT
The Bodum Santos Vacuum Coffeemaker makes excellent coffee. Smooth, full flavored, hot. This model requires more interaction than a percolator or drip coffeemaker. If you're not willing to participate in the coffee making process, don't purchase this coffeemaker. However, the end result is well worth the few extra minutes required. Some tips that may be useful:1.) Use coarse grinds to avoid clogging the filter;2.) When placing the upper chamber on the lower carafe, make sure there is a good seal between the two globes, as this will help in the vacuum process;3.) Always make sure there is at least a centimeter or two of water remaining in the lower carafe, otherwise the carafe will crack;4.) Allow the water and grinds to mix together in the upper chamber for a minute or two before removing from heat source (coarse grinds produce a weaker flavor compared to finer grinds, so allow a bit more time for the water to extract the flavor of the beans while in the upper chamber);5.) Remove the entire coffeemaker from the heat source and carefully place on a cool surface, keeping in mind that the coffeemaker will be top heavy and hot;6.) If the coffee remains in the upper chamber and doesn't completely drain to the bottom carafe, return the entire coffeemaker to the heat source again for a minute, then remove again to a cool surface;7.) Purchase a good thermos or insulated carafe to transfer your remaining coffee to (Nissan Thermos is a good brand, check out reviews on Amazon.com).8.) Coffeegeek.com and Coffeekid.com have additional information on vacuum brewing.Pros: Coffee is hot, full-flavored, and not bitter. The process is fun. Clean up is easy, if done soon after brewing. Affordable from Amazon.com when on sale. Reusable filter. Coffee is hot, full-flavored, and not bitter. (It's worth mentioning twice.)Cons: Capacity is only 8 cups (32 oz.). Filter can sometimes be unreliable. Uses more grinds than average peculator or drip models. Extra caution needed when using, as most of the coffeemaker is made of glass. Instructions are scant.Five stars for a wonderful product.

5Over the learning curve.
By larrygcmob
I purchased my unit about a year ago from Amazon.com and after about a month of frustration with the filter constantly clogging, I put it out of sight (out of sight = out of mind). When I could get it to work properly, it was great because the coffee tasted the way it smelled - wonderful. But, it was simply not worth the time and effort to get one pot out of 15 to brew properly. I tried burr grinders and the inexpensive type grinders. I tried coarse grind, medium grind, fine grind and everything in between with no success.About two-months ago I remembered I had the Bodum Coffeemaker and so I decided to revisit the task of trying to make a 'perfect cup of coffee - and it worked perfectly!I use the Bodum Coffeemaker almost every day now and it works as advertised 100% of the time. I have developed a system that works for me by taking suggestions from several of the reviews from Amazon.com and from some helpful advice from a Barnies' sales representative about how to store and use coffee beans. The one thing that I was probably doing wrong the first time was that I listened to a friend who thought he knew about how to store coffee beans. If you want to go from coffee beans to coffee dust, freeze the beans or keep them in the refrigerator - I guarantee you that this will work. It does not matter what your grind setting is on your burr grinder because you will get so much dust that the Bodum filter will clog and coffee cannot get sucked back into the lower chamber.I now keep my coffee beans in an airtight container in the pantry, grind them as needed and then follow these additional procedures to get great tasting coffee - every time.Make sure the seal is clean and dry and the top is pressed firmly down onto the lower unit. I use a gas burner at a medium-high setting and do not use a diffuser. I think that the diffuser may be recommended to help keep the handle cooler in case you do not center the pot over the flame. Also, be sure you put the lid on top of the upper unit. And, do use caution, because the handle does get very warm.I keep the burner on the same heat setting for 30 seconds after all of the water (except what is below the tube) goes into the upper chamber. There is still a little water left below the tube in the bottom chamber that will continue to boil. Turn the burner off after about 30 seconds, remove the upper chamber lid, and you can do one of two things at this point. If you do not want to move the coffeemaker while the top is full, just leave it on the burner and in a couple of minutes, the burner grate will cool enough to create the vacumm in the lower unit. If you want to cut a minute or two off of the procedure, use a oven mitt to hold the handle with one hand while you use the other hand to 'stablize' the top and move the coffeemaker to an adjacent cold burner.I can actually hear air being sucked into the lower chamber after all of the liquid has been removed from the upper chamber, which takes less than 10-15 seconds once it starts. I then use an oven mitt to hold the handle, remove the top chamber and put it in its neat holder, and pour my eight cups of great tasting coffee into my twenty-five year old Stanley stainless steel thermos. I now have great tasting coffee - all day long. After the top and bottom units have cooled, I remove the filter and clean both chambers being careful to not bang them against anything hard. The glass is thin, which it has to be, but seems pretty durable.I give the unit five stars because I am the one who caused most, if not all, of the original problems by improperly storing the coffee beans which resulted in a lot of dust when they were ground. The taste of the coffee made by this unit warrants five stars.

5Bodum Santos Vacuum Coffee Makers
By Joanne Evens
I cannot rave enough about this treasure made in Copenhagen. I have used every conceivable type of coffee maker in the past, but this one is simply the best I have ever used. It is beautiful to look at, very easy to use and clean, and makes the best cup of coffee I have ever tasted. I ordered the electric version of this brand, but when it arrived, it had a defect, so I returned it immediately. I am so happy I didn't order the electric one because it was twice the amount of money that I paid for the non-electric one. I am going to tell all my friends about it--unfortunately you can't buy it in any stores, only through Amazon.com. Congratulations on carrying this absolute gem of a coffee maker!! 5Never had a problem in 2.5 years
By J. Peterman
Contrary to what others have said, my experience with this DVD mega-changer has been excelent.

I think some of the problems mentioned stem from the user not understanding how the machine works. For example, a person in one of the previous reviews said,

"It also likes to drop the one you had in the easy slot (the 'plus one' slot) into other available slots, and I have to go looking for it"

This only happens if you turn the player off physically at the machine (also, if there is a power failure during, say, a thunder storm) instead of a power down with the remote. Powering down with the remote allows the disk to be removed from the dvd drive and placed back on the carosel.

Picture and sound are excellent on my 53" Sony rear prujection tv.

The only complaint i have is with the disk explorer feature. But then i bought a good number of my dvd's years ago before title info was included on dvd's, anyway.

4jeffreyp14 is right ... I think ...
By Mary Glynn
... but I hate to admit it. Today, I removed all my disks from the player for the 5th time in the year I owned the sony. I had it in the authorized service center 3 times and sony even replaced my unit once and was about to again for the same problem, putting the disks back wherever it felt like instead of where they belong. Not just the EZ play disk, but anything I watched. One of the times I had it repaired, the service guy told me he had 7 other units currently in for the same thing.

Trouble is my unit is hooked up to my whole system and when the movie was over, we turned the whole system off. With all those repairs and replacements no one ever asked how we were turning the unit off! It might have been in the manual -- which I did read, but I don't think I realized the difference between powering off from the remote and via the a/v system. After reading Jeffreys post I tried it a few times and it did put it back correctly when I powered off from the remote and did put it somewhere else when I did it the other way. Thanks Jeffery!

Other than that I loved the unit, it plays great, quality is great. It does spin around back and forth a lot when it first goes on and as Jeffreyp14 said, disk explorer isn't what it's cracked up to be. It was easy to add the titles with a keyboard, but I lost that info when I first had it repaired (ha!) and didn't bother to do it again. I think disk explorer had found 5 titles. It also does begin to play when you turn it on, but I believe there was something in the manual about that being the default and it could be changed. If I remember correctly, doing that, did work. Lately though, I've been too busy trying to find my disks to care about that.

The putting dvd's back wrong was my only complaint and it appears that's been resolved. I'm going to hold off on returning it (again) and make sure that was the problem. Assuming I get the same results in the future -- I'd recommend the unit. I'd even give it 5 stars except for the fact that no one ever told me about powering off in any of the numerous and lengthy phone conversations with Sony. You'd think someone besides Jeffery would know!

I think the guy that wrote the review before me got a store defect! My sony works fantastic. I've had it for almost a month now and i've had no problems. I enjoy the simplistic style of the menus. They keep me from getting headaches after long days at work.

5Settlers of Catan Meets Flash Gordon
By Joshua Koppel
I have loved Settlers of Catan since I first played it. I was thrilled when I first saw Starfarers (I loved the retro Flash Gordon look).

Unlike the other Settler games, this one actually uses plastic and not wood for many of the pieces/parts. My friends can be quite rowdy late at night but in the years I have had the game, no piece has ever broken.

Play is a little different than in other sets. Its sort of like Seafarers with lots of little islands. Development cards are there (although there are some new resources) and they have been joined by encounter cards where you deal with alien races, traders and pirates. Play lasts a little longer than the original but is comparable to Cities & Knights.

The board is beautiful and rather large (no small contained hex this time). Players ability to move and fight are modified by upgrades to their central ship/die roller/neat thing. There is currently an expansion set for adding up to two more players which I just picked up (so I don't know how it affects play yet).

All in all, this is a really fun addition to the Settlers world of games (I have eight of them so far). If you liked the original and wanted a bit more of a challenge, this is a great addition to your game closet.

4Excellent! But with flaws...
By Skye Goshorn
Our family of four, parents plus 10yr old girl and 12yr old boy had a blast with this game. Lucky for us we were able to spend a couple of hours to figure out how this game works before we actually played a "real" game where the winner meant something. Our major complaint was one of the plastic motherships broke upon our first application of the booster pieces. The motherships are too brittle and I suggest a different design because it set a negative note until we remedied the problem by placing a rubber band around the mother ship and applying the boosters under the rubber band so we wouldn't break any more ships. With that resolved, the game was enjoyed by all. Also, we found it better for all the players to set up the colonies and spaceports before the numbers (resource chips) were turned over. Fairer all around. The rules and instructions were well written and we found ourselves always referring to them to get the best rules possible. My son thinks that 15 victory points should be higher because after about 3 hours of game, you still didn't hit the farthest corners of space so maybe it should last longer. Geez - if that doesn't speak enough about how much fun it was, I don't know what else would.

5Complicated and Involved
By Christopher Bennage
I bought this game because I liked Settlers of Catan and I'm a sci-fi fan. However, this game is not much like Settlers. The game might be compared to a combination of Risk and Monopoly. It takes about three hours to play and longer if you are teaching a beginner. There are a lot of small pieces to break or lose. Also, you really need three, and not more than four, people to play a game. All that aside, we really enjoy the game and I would highly recommend it for teenagers to adults.
