"Outstanding Tile Saw"

The MK-100 10" 1 1/2HP Tile Saw is an excellant saw for the money. I researched many different brands and sizes of Tile saws. I wanted one that could cut a variety of different types of tile and the ability to diaginaly cut twelve inches. I talked with an MK service rep and he said the MK 100, their newest saw, was basically the same saw as the 101. It does have a different motor and there is no cover over the slide assembly. The MK-100 will cut 12" floor tile in about three seconds. The saw sounds the same as the 101, basically the same machine, just two or three hundred dollars less expensive. The saw comes with a very good instruction booklet and everything needed to cut tile. The Diamond blade could be better, but you can easily replace it when it becomes dull.

I highly recommend this versatile saw to anyone that wants a great saw , at a great price.

The tool does a lot of work steady will cut the larger tiles. Not as noisy as some of the smaller machines. Needs some space to use and is a little heavy for one guy to move around well.

MK-100 10 Inch Tile Saw

The saw worked great cutting the 1/2" thick slate tiles that I was using. Cut the tiles like butter. It was easy to assembly right out of the box. Nothing complicated about putting it together. It is a little too heavy to be moving around by yourself. So I attached it to a hand truck to get it in and out of my garage. You definetly want to cut tile outside. There's always a mist of water coming off the blade. The hot dog blade that came with it worked fine too. I put the water pump in a separate bucket of clean water. I don't think the pump would hold up for long putting it in the plastic tub under the saw. The water off the blade creates a pretty thick slurry that would be hard to pump. The only problem I had was I didn't get the cutting kit that was promised with the order. After a call to Amazon it arrived 7 days later. Very pleased with the saw and it will last for generations in the family.

Excellent

This is a great must have tool for DIY wood floors. While every company that's in the tool business seems to make a nailer (Senco, Bostitch, etc.), what sets the Porter-Cable apart is it's balance and civilized look. The look doesn't matter, but if you don't want to mar the wood floors by having a tool keel over and damage the floor, then this is the tool to get.The "last nail" comment is a very true. If you try to drive that single last nail, unpredictable results may occur. In my case, I had to throw the piece away (actually cut it for the closet), since the last nail went in almpst parallel to the surface of the wood and skimmed the finish off the top. If the wood hadn't been there, it probably would have shot across the room.Finally, although the pneumatic nailers save you from backbreaking hammering, the nose takes more than just a light tap. A slightly sharp wack will drive the nails perfectly. Too soft and the nails don't get driven all the way. Too hard, and I'd be afraid that the tool would get damaged.One more item to note is that depending on the hardness of the wood flooring, you will have to adjust the air pressure to prevent cracked tongues. This isn't a FCN200 issue, but just generally true overall.Highly recommended.Review Update:After 4 years or so, the tool is still as good as the first day I bought it. My initial personal project was about 800-1000 sf. I'm now past 2500 sf (helped two friends install their floors in family/living rooms) installed and another 1500 sf or so more to go for my own house.This is a professional tool and the quality shows. I haven't had to have it rebuilt or order parts. Clean it ocassionally and use oil and an air filter and forget about it.Review Update 2:Still going strong after 7 years now. In fact, I had some floor professionally installed (about 2,000 sf) and the Ramm (something or other) that the installers were using broke on them. They ended up using my nailer for the last 1,500 sf. The installers commented that they liked the FCN200 nailer better.Review Update 3: (28-NOV-2012)After over 10 years of use and 1000s of square feet of installed wood later, the nailer has developed a small leak in the nose. I suspect it's because I've lent the nailer out quite a bit and have been remiss in cleaning and maintaining it after each return. Regardless, I purchased a kit on the internet for sub $20 and have replaced the O-ring. Everything seems to be on-track once again. No leaks and the nailer functions as it always has. $20 repair after 10 years of very regular use is stellar in my opinion.

Last cleat symptom

I read another review of the last cleat problem. I had several instances where the last cleat damaged the job before I realized what was happening, the tool also "dropped out" as many as four of the last cleats. One set of four got jammed in the mech. and was necessary to disassemble tool.I called the Porter Cable factory they said, "never heard of that problem, the tool should drive the last cleat".They did reccommend that I take it for warranty repair. I examined the pusher mechenism and could see the reason as the pusher does not go completely forward to push cleat against wall of dispenser. The pusher also hangs up at the last four or five cleats because of the latching arrangement causing the cleats to drop out. A visit to my local tool store showed the same conditions on the same model. I am using the tool to install brazilian cherry which is very hard, there is no problem in that respect it drives the cleats home every time and the tool is easy to use. I have been using Porter Cable products for 20 years and never had a problem before. If they re-design the pusher and refit the tool I will give it a 5 star rating.

Porter-Cable FCN200 2" Flooring Cleat Nailer

Excellent nailer. I have laid over 1,500 feet of flooring with 2 jambs. It takes about 45 seconds to clear a jamb using the provided tool. Also the last nail in a set from Porter Cable seems to eject about 20% of the time which is not a big deal to me. Tells me to fill up. I let someone who used a hammer nailer use this one and he could not believe how fast and how much more power he got from the floor nailer.After using for a few days and since the 2 jambs I have not had any additional problems. Senco nails for me are better than the Porter Cable. Senco nails have a glue that keeps them together where as the Porter Cable break like staples in your pocket or pouch. Overall an excellent tool but for $400 plus what do you expect. If you are on the fence over various brands go with Porter Cable. The nails are available locally and the tool performs well.

Best rotary hammer made

I have been in the plumbing industry for 12 years and have been using a Dewalt 565K rotary hammer for the installation of gaslines for about 3 years. I have used just about every other rotary hammer on the market and in my opinion the 565K is by far the most reliable and BEST there is. I especially like the lightweight body and the dust cover where the bit slides in. More importantly I love the performance of the 565K (it's quick). As anyone in new construction will tell you time is of the essence. Definately a five star product. Thank you Dewalt for making my job much easier. John Sink, Kimmey Plumbing

Good performance, solid value, excellent instructions.

Open the box and you see a bag of part one will never see in any hardware store parts aisle - does not look like nearly [price]worth of hardware. The first two minutes will give you a headache, faced with a sheaf of instructions and many, many small parts. Once you get to the single sheet of paper specific to your router, things start to ease up. The instructions are very well written, with specific warnings on areas one may go astray on - despite the complexity of the process, the installation goes very smoothly if one follows instructions to the letter.

Drilling a small hole in the bottom of your router base may be necessary, but the model specific templates make that process far less daunting than it should be. Color coded parts and a 'to scale' part index minimizes potential mixups during the assembly process. Total time preparing and installing on my Hitachi M12 router was just under an hour.

Performance is as-expected, solid and smooth, and elegantly simple. When comparing the purchase price of this with other, more 'meaty' models costing upwards of three times as much (considering all we're looking to do is increment the router up or down an inch or a millimeter) the unit is a bargain. No more under-the-table router height knob adjustment contortions here.

Not fancy, not impressive looking, but it sure works well.

Works very well but not an easy project

I bought this for my Freud 3-1/4 HP plunge router on a Jessem Rout-n-Slide router table. Putting it together proved to be a fairly intense process, including a difficult job of forcing four small compression locking pins onto the legs of the router. However, when I managed to finish installing the Router Raizer on the router, it is really wonderfully easy to raise or lower the bit using the deceptively simple handle bar. I recommend it highly if you don't mind a complex installation.

Wonderful product and support

For the price nothing else compares. It is cleverly engineered and does exactly what it says (very well). I had an installation issue because of bad machining in my Freud FT2000e and Bob (the owner and creator) was wonderful in talking me through a fine solution. Everything is installed and works well. Can't imagine a router table without this or a some sort of lift. Consider this, for what you save buying this over a lift system you can buy an incrajig system!

Directions are clear and precise. Don't let the parts and directions faze you. Basically this is an easy installation modulo the imprecisions of routers (the Router Raizer itself is VERY precisely made).

Great bits...

Being a loyal Whiteside follower and the closest Woodcraft store being over a hour away, I decided on this bit with the 3.99 overnight shipping.First off, these bits are sharp, plenty of carbide for sharpening, and well balanced.The box works well for storage. It is sturdy. I wouldn't say it is the best craftsmanship in the world, but very functional.Bits work great on endgrain. No burning. Very little tearout.Overall, I won't be changning from Whiteside, but these are very good bits.

Well worth to cost, very high quality bits. If you want bits that cut smooth and will last and last get Freud bits. All of the Freud bits I have purchased are of the same high value.

Poor quality router bit display/storage boxes.

The router bits are great but the wooden display/storage box leaves a lot to be desired. It's the wooden display/storage box which is terrible. The hinge arrangement on the tilt out router bit tray is absolutely terrible. The first time I ordered it the tray had broken completely loose within the case and the dovetails at one corner of the box were coming apart. The shipping carton was pristine so it wasn't a shipping issue. I returned the bit set and within a day or two I had the replacement (Hooray Amazon). Unfortunately the second bit set also had a broken hinge at one end of the tilt out tray. This item again came in an undamaged shipping carton. My conclusion is that Freud makes great router bits but their wooden display/storage boxes are junk.

Nice bits

I am very pleased with this set. These bits cut cleanly and do not burn your workpiece. The finished edge is very smooth. I have used Crafstman and viper bits before, and these are much better. With lesser quality bits, I spent a lot of time carefully going over the edge removing burn marks and smoothing out spintering. Never again.
