3A Simple To Use 2-Port KVM Solution
By Vincent E. Martin
Bottom-Line: If you need a 2-port KVM solution that is a breeze to set up and easy to use, look no further then the IOGEAR "MiniView PC G-CS12".When dealing with the world of desktop and server support, it is sometimes necessary to have more then one computer up and running at your desk. Currently, I have two desktops and two laptops (one personal) running at my desk for various reasons. The two laptops of course are self contained, but the two desktop share a common keyboard, mouse and monitor via a two-port IOGEAR "MiniView PC G-CS12" Keyboard, Video, Mouse (KVM) switch, or console. The "MiniView PC G-CS12" KVM Switch is a control unit that affords access to two computers from a single console. Attached computers can be accessed via a simple push button on the front of the off-silver unit; a red LED indicates to the user which PC is currently being accessed.Setup & InstallationSetup of the "MiniView PC G-CS12" is a fast and easy process (thankfully, there is no power connector): just plug the proprietary KVM cables into their appropriate ports, on the back and sides of the unit are all that is needed. There is no software to install or configure. Since the "MiniView PC G-CS12" intercepts keyboard input directly, it works on virtually any hardware platform (PC or MAC) and with all operating systems; E.G. Windows/UNIX/MAC/Linux.UsageOnce I set the "MiniView PC G-CS12" up I was ready to start using the console. As I stated above, one push button switches between the two attached computers and a red LED on the top of the switch tell you which unit you are currently working with. There is also an auto-scan mode, but with only two computers to control, it is just as easy to utilize the push button control. That is all there is to it really; the "MiniView PC G-CS12" is simple to use and maintain. You can use almost any PS/2 keyboard or mouse (including optical) with the "MiniView PC G-CS12", including those fitted with a USB connection, in you in turn utilize a PS/2 converter. The "MiniView PC G-CS12" will only accept a PS/2 connector input. And you can utilize both standard CRT and LCD monitors with the switch.KVM CablingThe one complaint I have about "MiniView PC G-CS12" is the proprietary cables one must use with the unit. Granted, the cables ship with the unit, but if they should ever need replacing, the must be replaced with IOGEAR KVM cable instead of cheaper third party KVM cables. On most KVM consoles, all of the ports (monitor, keyboard, and mouse) are female allowing one to purchase third party KVM cables (KVM cables attach the PC to the unit).ConclusionCables aside, I am very happy with the "MiniView PC G-CS12"; it saves me space and time by allowing my to run two computers from one keyboard, mouse and monitor. My one other complaint, which is minor, is that the unit is not easily placed because the cables just out from the side and can take up considerable space. And the unit is not wall mountable.

5Iogear KVC switch, simple and slick!
By J. Lindquist
this is my second KVC switch, and i like it better than my other -- one, because i don't have to manually push a button on it to switch between computers, but just use the keyboard command. Secondly it is smaller in size. It has worked great -- no problems. My new Kinesis keyboard didn't seem to like my other switch, but i have no problems with this one.

4VERY GOOD ISDN T/A (MODEM)
By B Ardell Young
I have used three different brands of ISDN T/A modems and the Express 3000 beats Eicon Diva by a small margin. Both of the modems provide consistent trouble-free service but Adtran edges out Eicon in installation and speed.Adtran installation process requires that the user knows how to use a keyboard and mouse. Installing the Diva is a roller coaster ride because some little or major problem occurs nearly every time. You also have to reload Eicon's software once every forty-five days for no apparent reason, except the modem will not work. I cannot remember ever reloading Adtran software.Over the past six years, I have probably used 10 or more Diva modems but less than 10 Adtran Express 3000. Neither modem tolerates any type of power surge, spike or lightning and once the modem is hit, it cannot be repaired.Eicon does provide better customer and technical support because Adtran really does not offer technical support. Adtran tech support consists of advice when the unit is being installed. Adtran is not helpful if the unit develops any type of problem.

5The thinking person's subwoofer
By Samuel Chell
Normally I dismiss the teenage mentality that requires subwoofers to punch up its daily hip-hop diet. But the striking appearance, exacting technology, and rapidly dropping price of the Harmon Kardon iSub spoke above my misgivings.

Six months later I couldn't be happier with my purchase. This is not a woofer that blows you away the instant you hook it up; rather it grows on you, much like sophisticated music.

I love the total absence of any controls or switches, which reminds me of the audiophile purists who would never think of equalizing, altering, or doctoring the sounds on their vinyl records. And the sound is so pure and translucent--much like the unit's appearance--that it doesn't call attention to itself. In fact, I often wonder if the thing is working--until I disconnect it. It's contribution is subtle but significant.

One small warning: the unit comes with a bulky, heavy power supply that needs to be factored into decor and installation schemes.

5Be careful where you buy the iSub
By Tom Swift
I bought the iSub directly from Amazon about a month ago and I am well pleased with its performance as well as the service from Amazon. The addition of lower frequency sound, along with my Apple Pro speakers, makes listening a vastly richer experience and that brings up a real problem: the vendor who is presently selling the iSub on Amazon, JandR, has come up with a richer price that bears no relationship with reality, charging a c-note. The manufacturer's own web site shows a list price of $$$for the iSub. I realize that Amazon can't always provide a deep discount on all merchandise, but the JandR pricing is a rip-off. http://www.harman-multimedia.com/shop_list.html?cart=HK1_1040673842218740&id1=1

4Good sound, but doesn't mute properly
By Robert Hanson
No complaints about the sound or looks here. Both are of course amazing. My one problem with the iSub however is it's USB interface. Because of this, certain things do not work as expected. Pluging in headphones will not mute the subwoofer, and neither will pressing the mute button on the keyboard. To turn off the iSub I have to unplug it, or go specifically mute it in the system preferences. This is extremely annoying to me, as I often hit the mute button to answer phone calls, and plug in headphones so I can continue listening to music when my roommates are studying or going to bed.

The problem is listed in apples support webpage as this:Symptom : You connect headphones to your computer, but the iSub speaker's volume does not mute as you may expect.Solution : The iSub is a subwoofer-type speaker designed to be used in conjunction with a pair of speakers. Your computer does not distinguish between analog headphones and analog speakers when you connect either to the computer's analog sound output port. Therefore it is the correct behavior for the iSub not to be muted. The iSub is muted if you connect USB headphones. Alternatively, disconnect the iSub when you do not wish to hear it.

I own the PowerMac Dual 867 running 10.2.4. My iSub is working alongside the apple pro speakers. If this problem may annoy you as well I would suggest looking at the JBL Creature Speakers.

5Kids love it!!!
By Marcos
We bought several of these in the past for our tripplets. they can't get enough of the Hostess 550 card! They're rugged too, standing up to daily wear and tear. The boys take them to school every day and all the kids pretty much keep a safe distance from them (what with the all the different serial connections they can make with the Hostess 550). I recommend this item to any parent with tripplets who are unable to make friends with other children or bond with traditional stuffed animals or action figures.

4Fine until it stops
By Angie Cross Bly
I am not sure what the typical life span of this product is. I bought my first one in 2007. It worked beautifully until it stopped October 2011. I replaced it and it's presently doing it's job just fine.

4Solid, does job well. Annoying software
By J. Sullivan
Software has all sorts of issues with my Mac Snow Leopard, so I just didn't use it and instead just used the UPS settings under system preferences. That works fine, except in my building the power often drops to 100 volts for a second or two. The UPS kicks in to up the voltage like it should for these few seconds and then goes back to non-battery. This is great, but it puts a warning message on my screen saying the system is now on battery backup and I should turn off computer....even tho its only been on backup for 1 or 2 seconds. The end result of all this is that in the morning I'm left with a screen full of warning messages that i have to individually close. Just annoying.

5Good old-fashioned telephone
By Barbara J. Nies
My new phone has enough heft to stay where I put it and to resist when I try to step too far away. The receiver has substance to hang onto. The sizeable push-buttons make mis-dialing difficult. It's a phone. It doesn't sing, dance, or forgive my sins. It just rings clearly, holds a connection, and carries voices normally. True, it doesn't have any new-fangled bells and whistles - the ones I actually want I've included in my answering machine specs. It's just a phone - that I don't have to worry about again. Thanks.

2Good idea, poorly executed
By Ari Goldstein
We bought three of these units for my grandmother, and two of them died within the first two months, and the third died within the following month. They really do not have an easy return policy. The original version of this phone in the 70's was excellent, manufactured by ATT. This knockoff is poorly built.

5The Classic
By John Walthall
The model 2500 may be the greatest phone ever made: well built, does just what it should. This one adds a flash button, 90v lamp and the receiver has a volume control. It's just heavy enough, the receiver is exactly the right size and shape, it's reasonably compact and still built like a tank! It doesn't have fancy features but hey! That's actually a good thing! Read on.That makes this phone perfect for those of us who still have analogue PABX/Centrex services. We use features like hold and transfer by flashing or dialing * or # and entering a code. When the phone has features baked in they either don't work at all with our system or half-work in confusing ways. The perfect example was the 'office' phone we got with a 'hold' switch. This caused all sorts of problems since all it did was cut the mic and disable the switch-hook so you could hang-up without disconnecting. It didn't communicate to the switch what was going on or clear the line. People would press 'hold' then try to dial a second call and get a busy signal or would go to a different extension and dial the code to retrieve the call and get a busy signal, all because the hold was being executed in the phone itself. This is the same phone as the one with the big red 'beehive' neon lamp on the top that you sometimes still see in hospitals and hotels the only differences being the size, location and color (this one is orange). On a side note this light almost certainly won't work with consumer voice mail, that usually requires a proprietary 3rd party unit)The flash button also pretty much does just what you think it would and helps to solve the problem of... ah... less technically astute people hanging up on callers when they try to do a transfer/hold/conference/etc with the switch-hook.Last but not least the phone has an honest-to-god mechanical bell ringer, not an annoying electronic 'beeper' that you can't hear from the next room. The only possible substantive criticism is that the volume control wheel makes very little difference, I can just barely hear the difference. This may not be a problem unless you are hard-of-hearing because the sound reproduction is very good on this unit. Also to be honest 'sand' (I've never seen ash that color!) is not exactly my favorite color. I much prefer the black one but they don't seem to make that any more and I've never found one with both flash and MW light.
