4Does the glass really make a difference?
By Kathleen Fischer
It does! I was amazed. We bought two sets, one for me and one for my husband. A reisling in the correct glass was more falvorful, the cabernet had more black cherry essence. For a true wine lover, novice or experienced, this is an excellent purchase!!!

5Fully taste the great wine you paid for
By A Customer
If you're going to spend money on good wine, don't put it in cheap glassware - you'll be throwing your money away! What a reviewer below referred to as the "odd/ugly angular bend" is exactly what enables these glasses to bring out the full flavor of the wine. Do you just want your table to look "pretty" or do you want the food and drink to taste fabulous? If you want the latter, shove aside some of those Martha Stewart table decorations to make room for these glasses and enhance your fine wines.

5Best Decemberween present EVER!
By E. Haynes
I can't believe someone thinks these gorgeous glasses are ugly! Oh my god...I opened these and I *cried* they are so beautiful. Each glass has its own little personality, it's own pretty curve. Hold one of these and it practically talks to you. They are so incredibly big and gorgeous! Even though they are primarily designed to present each type of wine at optimum bouquet & flavor , the size and shape of the glasses also displays the color very well, too. These are the crown jewels of my glassware collection. I am incredibly happy with them.

5We Love Riedel
By Stephen Green
The right glass can make your wine taste better -- and, no, I'm not kidding.

Riedel Vinum Extreme weren't just made for great quality and even better style, they are designed specifically to showcase New World wines.

If you like your Cabernets from California or your Shiraz from Australia or your Merlot from Chile, then do yourself a favor and buy a set of these glasses.

A big, deep bowl flares out from the stem, then tapers gently back in towards the top. Not only does this shape perfectly hold the big bouquet of wines with big fruit, it also delivers the wine straight to the perfect spot on your tongue.

We were so impressed with these Cabernet glasses, that we asked for (and got) the Pinot Noir glasses for our wedding. Soon, we'll be getting a set of the Chardonnay, too.

And then we added a wall cabinet with hanging stemware racks to our dry bar, so that we can see this beautiful crystal on display, even when we aren't drinking.

What a value!! I collect all manner of beautiful crystal stemware. On more or less a whim, I purchased the Riedel Vinum Extreme. I heard that Robert Mondavi is quoted as saying "I never knew my wines tasted so good!" so my boyfriend and I decided to have some fun and try a blind tasting. We pitted my gorgeous and hideously expensive hand cut crystal against the Riedel. We were truly astounded. No kidding, you start tasting the wine before it hits your lips. The shape of the bowl funnels the aroma of the wine up and out of the glass and the vapors start flowing into your nose before the glass even touches your tongue (be sure not to fill these LARGE glasses full; it will spoil the effect and you'll soon get so drunk from sheer volume that none of your senses will be working!) With my other crystal, we could barely smell the wine at all. We weren't tasting a fine wine, either. Rather we were drinking a Charles Shaw Cab, aka "Two-Buck Chuck" that we'd gotten on sale from Trader Joe's. The Riedel brought out the best in even a very inexpensive wine. Now I am buying more glasses--for myself and for friends. We bought a few more cases of "Two-Buck Chuck" too. I wouldn't bother with the cheaper "everyday" Riedel's. These glasses make a $5 red taste more like a $10-$12 red, so it's great to have a good tasting wine for dinner every night without emptying our wallets. These glasses paid for themselves after a few bottles of wine! We are planning a trip to Paris, and I am bringing a set of these glasses for our host, along with a good CA wine. We're going to have a little taste test for fun! Good Riedel's are a must-have for anyone concerned about tasting wine and a wonderful housewarming or hostess present!!!! Have fun and enjoy the great taste of wine.

5This is my favorite glass ever
By Willy
I love wine. Riedel glasses really do make wine taste better. My wife and I registered for a lot of Riedel stemware when we got married. For a while, I would play a game where I had guests try the same wine from all the different glasses. Everyone I did this with was amazed at the difference they made.Of the glasses, the Extreme Bordeax glasses are some of my favorites both asthetically and functionally.

5Perfect
By Stephen Green
Miss those wonderfully oversized red wine glasses from all those hip, '80s restaurants? Well, they're back.

Looking for a glass wide enough in the bottom third to allow proper aeration, but narrow enough at the top to properly focus the nose of a good Burgundy? Well, here it is.

Want something with a dramatic look, but without the pretention of Waterford-type stemware? Well, then look no further.

Riedel has made a Burgundy/Pinot Noir wine glass with all the volume, functionality, and looks you could ever want.

We received four of these as a wedding gift, and we'll be buying more as we're able. Vinum Extreme not only looks great on the table, but each glass is designed to perfectly show off the color and enhance the flavor of your favorite wines.

Just be sure to order a set of the Bordeaux/Cabernet Sauvignon glasses, too.

5A Beautiful Piece of Work
By A Customer
When I first heard about the Vinum Extreme line from Riedel, I was rather skeptical. From a logical standpoint, I saw no reason to improve upon the existing Vinum line. However, may I say that upon seeing the Extreme Series first hand rather than as a two dimensional picture, the design characteristics are in fact, quite stunning.

With regard to how these glasses perform, I cannot purport to be a true oenophile that would be able to discern and discuss the subtle nuances these glasses may divulge about a particular wine. I also could not say as to whether the Extreme Series outperforms the Vinum line either. However, as a person that does appreciate wine and finely made objects such as these, and as an owner of other sets of the Vinum line, the Extreme Series does offer a striking and angular contrast to the rounded shape of the Vinum Series. The more I look at the Vinum Extreme Pinot Noirs, the more I like them.

Buyers be aware however, that the Extremes only come in sets of four rather than six. Also, these glasses are much bigger than I thought they would be. In any event, if you purchase these glasses, I seriously doubt that you will be disappointed with your purchase. Enjoy!

5You won't be disappointed with this glass
By N. John
My husband bought me a set of these Vinum Extreme Pinot Noir/Burgundy glasses for my birthday some years ago to enjoy my favorite wine in. The design was striking and bold and I had to have a side-by-side comparison in the wine glasses that we had been using next to the Vinum Extreme. It was immediately evident that the new glass from Reidel maximized all the goodness of the wine. I have loved these glasses so much that I have ordered more for the different types of wines though not all of them. My next favorite glass is the cabernet. This glass has such a great feel to it and brings out the best in the wine. The only downsides to these glasses are that the wide middles take more cupboard space and that they only come four to a box. That said, I couldn't be happier to have them!

5Riedels Have A Profound effect on wine!
By Juanita W. Minor
Store your Waterford or Baccarat crystal wineglasses, or leave them in your china cabinet for "show" only. You won't want to use them again (unless you are having a generic table wine). Over a year ago, I began collecting four styles of the Riedel Vinum Extreme stems, the Riedel Sommelier White Burgundy, and the Sommelier Mature Bordeaux stems. They are my requests from family and friends for all gift-giving occasions. All the Riedels should be filled only to 1/4 to 1/3 capacity, allowing the remainder of the generous bowls to capture, then release, the fragrant, secretive, seductive aromas of the wines to which the stems refer, as the wine is swirrled, then sniffed, for an amazing hedonistic pleasure before sipping and capturing the flavors on the four sensory sections of the tongue, a task the shape and size of the glasses are also designed to accomplish. There is such an amazing difference between these glasses and the many others my husband and I have used during our 27-year marriage. When using the Riedel glasses, a really good, vintage wine tastes like a rare, superb wine; a good but inexpensive young wine exhibits aromas and characteristics we never dreamed they could have. Invest in them! They are worth it! We are currently using our Riedels while taking an on-line wine course together. What an enjoyable activity for couples and friends to share!Juanita Minor

4Great all around lens for Pentax K mount
By Doug Milligan
I purchased this lens for traveling with my Pentax digital bodies. It's a great alternative to carrying a bunch of lenses when traveling. The trade off for the versatility is the mecahanics at times. Instead of being a master on one focal range, it's the jack of all trades. It has a very difficult time focusing quickly, especially with a filter on the lens. AF is slow on this lens.

Got this lense for my K100D. The price seems right and the pictures look good enough for me. No problem so far other than the telephoto is a bit tight.

4My review of the Tamron Autofocus Aspherical Lens
By Kelly O'Neill
I am very happy with this product. Shortly after receiving the lens I used it on a road trip from Anchorage to Valdez. The temperatures were in the negatives, but the skies were clear and the views gorgeous. The lense worked wonderfully and I have fantastic pictures of my family and scenery to prove it. This lense is my general lense of choice for most of my photography. For someone on a budget like myself, this was the perfect lense.

5Does the job and real well
By J. Buy
If you are looking for a decent walkaround that does 95% of the ranges, and hate lugging loads of lens with kids for zoo trips or travel, this will be perfect. Folds to a amazing skinny size that is even smaller than the Sony Kit lens! Big PLus- Pictures actually turned out better than the kit lenses after some workouts.I did some research before buying this lens and read about the struggling at 200mm. I verify it does struggles, but not something as unbearable as some made it out to be. Maybe we are more impatient in this age, and cannot tolerate a delay of a split a second. If you can bear with your 70-300, this will not be an issue for you. However, please note that although it says F3.8, your camera will show maximum of F4.0.. According to the Tamron Customer Service, this is inherent for Sony Cameras only; so don't be alarmed..Sans the prime lenses and CZ, this's gotta be the best purchase I've made. And it is dirt cheap (<150)!! I'll highly recommend to novice and pros. Try it and you'll soon dump your kits like I did!!

5Exactly what I wanted, light and versatile
By Setter Dog
This may be a slightly different lens review than most would write, but maybe someone will benefit from my experience. I was as interested in weight and handling as I was absolute image quality. My search was for an all-around and relatively light weight lens. When I finally ordered this lens, it was after a pretty long internet search for something that would handle well and be more manageable on my relatively small a55 Sony camera. I already had a Sigma 18-250mm that is simply a GREAT lens. I enjoy using it, but not on an everyday basis. The Sigma weighs 22oz alone. When mounted on my camera, the total weight is 40oz or 2.5 pounds. Believe me, that's a load hanging around the neck. It takes some of the fun out of a day at the zoo or other activities where you are carrying the camera any distance. My first choice for a "walk around lens" was a Sony 55-200mm. It's the lightest long zoom available that I could find. By all reports, the Sony is a great lens but I reluctantly decided the 55mm on the short end was just not wide enough to make it an all-around lens.I finally found this Tamron 28-200mm. The 28mm is wide enough for my use and the weight is only 2 oz more than the Sony. It feels great on the camera. At only 3" long, it balances so much better than my Sigma and is a pleasure to use. It feels like it was made for the Sony a55!Initially, I thought I had a problem. I tested the Sigma 18-250mm and Sony 18-55mm with flash in the house. My purpose was to see if the Tamron 28-200mm would serve as an indoor camera for Christmas etc. What a shock when I looked at the pictures. The ones from my old lenses were great. The pictures taken with the new lens were almost totally black. I did some resets etc., but nothing worked. A friend suggested I post my problem on the DP Review forum. Within an hour, a member suggested I change the flash mode from ADI to Pre flash TTL. I did and the flash pictures are now excellent. Apparently some lenses only have five contact points and TTL mode must be used. Sony lenses and some others have eight contact points.Optically, this lens seems to at least the quality of my other lenses. I don't pixel peep but I did take several shots at various focal lengths and briefly compared them to similar pictures I had taken with my other lenses. To my eye, they are equal in image quality. I take a lot of zoom pictures with my other lenses at 250mm so I was anxious to see if the 200mm shots from this Tamron still looked good after heavy cropping. They do. This is a quality lens.My first real test of the lens came on a trip to the Orange County, CA, Zoo, a challenging place to take pictures, due to the lighting and the various forms of fencing around the animals. This was my third trip to this Zoo, the first two using other heavier zoom lenses. I received several comments that the pictures I got with the Tamron 28-200 were my best yet. I am totally pleased. As I understand it, this is an older version of the 28-200mm lens. In fact, the name Sony does not appear on the Tamron box. I must say, however, that it seems to be an ideal lens for the small a55. I can honestly recommend this lens. The price is right and the quality is there.
