As an alternative to the familiar manual exposure balance, which of course, continues to be available, the M7 features a comfortable stepless automatic shutter speed control with metered value storage at the shutter release button. Work more accurately. The legendary cloth focal plane shutter in all Leica M cameras was thoroughly redesigned to control exposure times electronically, virtually inaudibly. Stay informed at all times. A system that is very unusual in rangefinder camera displays: a total of 33 different readings is shown in the viewfinder, an area of less than two square millimeters, enlarged 15 times for optimal information. Start immediately. An on/off switch is positioned ergonomically right next to the release button. In the on position, it turns the electronics of the M7 on. In the off position, it blocks the shutter release button. Flash at ultrahigh exposure times. In addition to the regular 1/50 second sync speed, the M7 in conjunction with special Metz flash units can now flash at sync speeds up to 1/1000 second. In this mode, the settings of the exposure and the flash are made manually. Use flash creatively. In conjunction with a specially equipped flash unit, the M7 can also be triggered by the second shutter curtain. The advantage is a natural pictorial rendition, for instance, with long exposures and fill-in flash. Prevent faulty exposures. There are two options of setting the film speed: manual and automatic (with DX coding). This eliminates faulty exposures that result from setting wrong ASA film speeds. An override feature of +/-2 f/stops is available for exposure corrections in the automatic exposure mode.

Leica's Rangefinder Camera for the 21st Century

The Leica M7 is truly one camera that is long overdue. Without a doubt, it is the finest - and most expensive - rangefinder camera currently in production. Much of what the Leica M7 offers is not revolutionary, but rather, a natural, evolutionary progression spanning nearly five decades since the introduction of the M3, Leica's first bayonet-mounted rangefinder camera. The shutter remains essentially the same as the one found on the M6, but it is far more accurate than its immediate predecessor; it is still a silk curtain shutter, but one that is now electronically controlled, guaranteeing accurate exposures every time. Surprisingly, it is now also quieter than the shutter for the Leica M6. Those familiar with Leicas, especially the M4 and M6, will find the M7 easy to use. However, you may have to carry additional batteries since this camera won't work without them, with the notable exception of two shutter speeds. Otherwise, I regret that this fine camera is truly too expensive for most photographers.

I have tried & tested this Monster Studio Pro 1000 Cable.My studio is normally fitted out with the best Canare Neutrik cable available.I tested this with an Original U47 Mic & Shure SM58 - Neve 1073 Flat & Apogee Rossetta 800 - ProTools HD3 on Mac.Myself & 2 other Awarded Engineers A/B this against Standard 'Hosa' Mic Cable & Canare / Mogami.BTW I love Mogami, Canare & Neutrik.The results were unanimous - the Monster was the best sounding cable accross the board - the extended sub bass resonse - tight mid to low bass - clarity in the mid range & amazing hi frequency detail without a fake top end shine made it ear opening! The Transient Response was even Greater! It not only sounded better but you could see the greater detail in the Waveforms!I have Professionally Engineered for over 15 years & Trained with Bruce Swedien (J-Lo, Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Nat King Cole, Sarah Vaughn, Duke Ellington) & was reccomended it by Bruce. Overloaded with features and good design...

I have owned lots of Sony portable CD players in my time, and this has to be one of the best. This CD player has both TV and weather bands, although both have limited channels and limited range. But, the FM and AM reception is one of the best in its league, far excelling Panasonic CD players with the same capabilities. Additionally, the CD player is well-designed for the hand and for the back-pack. The "play" feature using the thumb is quite a good feature, for runners and back-packers. Also, the G-Protection for this CD player is adjustable; there are two levels of G-Protection available. The sound quality is not very great on G-Protection on Level 2, but it's good. The water resistance of this CD player as well as the latch is perfect. Although the latch LOOKS plastic, the latch is actually very sturdy. I had to get a new CD player because it was broken and not functioning properly, and the previous Sony CD player kept popping out my CDs during my exercise outside. The latch is well-done for this CD player. There are only two major faults with this player: 1) the addition of a water-resistant remote; and 2) the CD player could possibly be slimmer and lighter.

I have used this CD player for my trips and vacations. I have been astounded by its durability and design (although the price is a bit too much). A must-buy? It truly depends on what your lifestyle dictates.

Great Quality, and Function!!!

I bought this CD player on and impulse, I didn't regret it except it did drain my wallet, considering I'm a 14-year old kid with no income.The earphones that come with it are pretty good, they are flexible and aren't bulky. I guess the behind the neck earphones are popular now-a-days but these are different and kinda unique. I went jogging with this Sony CD player and it DOESN'T SKIP. It can skip but you have to shake it ferociously for a while to make it. This comes with TV, weatherband, and FM, and AM radio. I love the options it gives you. This player is a must for active people, considering the amazing water-resistant design. I must say that I'ts obvious the people of Sony carefully considered the shape and desgn of it. It's hard to explain but here goes: There is a band that you slip your hand through and you can completely change songs with your thumb. I know that sounds confusing but basically you can hold and control your CD player with your left hand, but don't worry, it's good with your left hand even if you are right handed. I carry it around everywhere and it doesn't slip! Trust me the design is ingenious, very, very few are like this one.I know it costs a lot, even I can't really afford it, but really worth it. But if you don't need the features I guess you don't need it.Overall, I'm glad I bought this and it's something thats an amazing quality.

Sony D-FS601 Walkman

What's so great about this CD player for me is that it is by far one of the most sturdy, rugged players in the market. I'm a klutz, and I've dropped the thing upwards of 20 times from some pretty high heights over the past year that I've owned it and it still works as well as it did when I first bought it. The thing is like a friggin' rock.

The fact that it has BOTH and FM and AM band is great, given that most players offer only FM. For a news/talk radio fan like me, that's important. Other features, like the G-Protection that ensures that the CD will never, ever skip because its jostled, or the fact that it's designed so that the entire player can be operated with your right hand make it one of the best CD players I've ever owned.

Doesn't Vacuum Seal Very Well - Update

I recieved the FoodSaver Vaccuum Seal system as a gift along with two 11" continous roll bags. They worked great but were kind of big for some of the food that I was trying to vacuum and seal so I bought the premade package of 48 quart size bags. I have had nothing but issues with those bags since I got them. They will not vacuum and seal correctly. When I make my own bag with the continious roll material the vacuum and seal works great but not with the quart bags. Even when I have tried both types on the same night, the continious self made bag works the quart bag does not. The vacuum system works well but the quart bags do not. They look and feel like they are made from the same material. The only difference is that the quart bags are about half the width of the 11" bags and they don't stretch across the whole vacuum seal area like the 11" bags do but the manufacturer does mark-off where the optimum vacuum seal area is so you can make sure your bag covers that area and the quart bag does stretch across that area but still will not vacuum and seal. I am just going to buy the 11" roll and make my own bags.I couldn't just throw the bags aways so I kept looking for a way to make these work and finally found it. If you take the bag out and crumble it up into a ball, basically wrinkling it up, than it works like a champ in the foodsaver. Once I discovered this I have tried it about 15 times and each time it has worked great.

Great product!

I've been using the FoodSaver Vacuum Sealer for years. They've actually re-designed their product, bags included and it works even better. I prefer the pre-made bags and this order completed my inventory . . . always like to have a box or two on hand. I shop at Costco and the only bags they have are the ones in a roll that you have to seal both ends yourself. So I did a google search online and found these, bought 'em and it's great.

Its a bit bigger then you would imagine but it is worth every penny the sound quality is amazing and visually alone it turns heads.I did have to spend a few bucks on better screws for installing the mount. I suggest self drilling screws to get through any material.

Looks better in pictures

Cant speak to how it sounds because I couldnt get past the looks. The cheap plastic chrome stem and shiny braided wire cover dont look good nor real. Also beware this is the non amplified version (NOS8) so dont expect an NOS8A (amplified). It it BIG, but only requires a few inches from the speaker to work properly which should make it easy to install. The retaining straps are black plastic and thin metal.

Great card and software for amateurs.

This is a very nice card. I use it to download video files from my digital camcorder to my computer.My impressions are the following:

1) Installation: Piece of cake. I just had to open the box and slide the card into one of the PCI slots. It fit like a glove. No problems here.

2) Hardware configuration: Windows recognized the card immediately, and in a few seconds I had the drivers of the card installed and going. No errors, no crashes. I use Windows 98 as my operating system.

3) Drivers for the camcorder: I own a JVC GR-DVL-915U digital camcorder. The installer configured it nicely, it found the right driver for it and I was up and going in seconds. All the drivers are contained in the installation CD.

4) Software: 2 main packages are included. Ulead Video Studio which is for the beginner and Media Studio Pro v6.0 for the advanced user. I started with Video Studio. Simple software, it guides you step by step in capturing the video from your camcorder, adding titles and some basic effects, adding music tracks from the cd player and also editing the voice of the video. You cant go wrong with that. It takes you by the hand from the beginning until the end, when you finally create your movie. I also tried the Studio Pro but this one needs some time to get used to due to the steeper learning curve. Overall, Video Studio is a simple software for the beginner. When you learn its capabilities you will have to move to something more sophisticated

5) Internet. After I created my first movie, I saved it as an mpg file and downloaded it to my web site. Everything worked as expected. And all that within a couple of hours from installing the card!

6) Manuals: Very well documented manuals for both software packages and installation steps of the card. There are also some video manuals that show you how to get started with the Media Studio Pro. Both manuals are in pdf form and are complete and comprehensive.I was very satisfied with that.

7) Performance. I have a Pentium III at 600MHz and 128 MB of ram and the Nvidia Geforce Pro graphics card with 32MB of memory. The editing was pretty fast. But at the end, when you combine all the effects in order to render the final movie it takes a few minutes. So, I dont think that you should go for less than Pentium III and at least 128MB of ram.

Overall a nice product, it will keep you busy for weeks, especially the Media Studio Pro. I had no problem with installation of the card or drivers or anything else. I was up and editing in a matter of minutes. I suspect though that more advanced users will not be satisfied with the product. For me it was exactly what I looked for: a card and software that can download video from my camcorder to the computer, edit it and then publish it on the web.

I have made 2 movies so far.P.S. You will also need the Firewire cable that connects your camcorder to the card. Mine was included but I think it was a special deal or something. Make sure that you get the cable too.

great card & software, but this one has older version

The card is great, works fine, and the bundled software is very good for this price... however, the current item for sale from amazon includes the OLDER version of Video Studio (4.0), which has some very key features missing vs. the current VS 5.0 (seamless >4G capturing, scene detection, etc.) I do not know of an upgrade path to 5.0 besides paying almost half the price of this package, to ULead.

I would give this 5 stars, if the release was current to what ADS Tech is shipping now.

MediaStudio Pro 6.0 is still current, but is older than VS 5.0 (even the full Pro, not SE version is missing some features vs Video Studio 5.0)

If you need the new features of VS 5.0, like I did, check carefully about which version comes bundled.

Otherwise, this card and the software bundle is great- if you want more software, eg a full version of Media Studio (6.0), and you need a 3D animation program, check out the ADS Pyro ProDV bundle, it includes Hash' Animation Master, and lots of others (spicemaster lite, borisFX, Cool3D, etc.) for an excellent price.

If you don't need the extra software pieces, this 1394DV bundle is still great (esp. if you get VS5.0 though.)

I have a PIII-800, windowsME, 256MB ram, and 40gb hd. Get LOTS of hd!!!

Software is useless, Card okay

The card installed and works fine. The software on the otherhand is useless. I mistakenly believed the reviews I read here and other places, including CNET and even the articles on ADS's site. I'm not sure what sort of editing these people are used to but NLE software should do far more than allow for single track sound editing and confine users to basic cutting tools with very little control of the video clips. Horrible, useless software package. I regret being cheap. Spend the money for a good Firewire card that comes with useful software, like Premiere.

Writing about a Reader

If you'd still like proof that the average human mind doesn't think in any manner resembling a computer's processor chip (even those computers we love that help us "think different!"), attempt to comprehend the challenge in how a computer "reads" a sheet of paper.

You and I read an article in the newspaper, skip over to a eye-catching advertisement, pull out our wallets and exchange business cards, and all the time, we have learned to scan the item of interest, pick out those words that are important, discard the rest as unnecessary, and go about our busy lives.

But not a computer. A computer lives for those details. And those same details can mire a processor down.

Which in a way is why the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software engine used by ReadIRIS Pro 9.0 is a delight to work with. The people behind the software have helped to link the scanned data into basic patterns and formats ever so much more useful to the daily lives of the user (me, in this case!)

I initially looked into this review by getting my hands on the Business Card Reader (BCR) device, in this version, roman number II, so that I might make my life easier by managing the growing pile of business cards that I collect, and have collected over the past decade, and expect to continue to collect well into the future.

There is something wonderful indeed about business cards, especially in how succinct the summary of a person's relevance. But I digress away from attempting to deal with this growing pile of cards.

Card files don't seem to work for me. But I have enjoyed manually inputting some of my more frequent contacts into Address Books (both Apple's version and Microsoft's Entourage version.) So it seemed an obvious step to begin to input the business cards using a Business Card Reader!

I will warn you -- skip the software that comes "standard" with the current Business Card Reader II. An upgrade is promised, but in the meantime, consider using another ReadIRIS product -- Pro 9.0 (in my case, I tried the corporate edition).

ReadIRIS Pro is a joy to work with. The install was smooth and easy. The software engine (with all files and reference information) installed in less than 80 megabytes. I thought that quite good, especially with how the software promised to handle so many different fonts and language styles.

I tested the software with both a Hewlett Packard scanner and the BCR device. Switching between the two was very quick. I can see how the OCR software could pay for itself due to some of the vast amount of reference materials still unconverted to digital format (the software outputs in text, rich-text, html and pdf formats). Keep in mind however to put aside some time to proof your new documents against the old. If you have a set of material which needs OCR review, one of ReadIRIS Pro 9.0's benefit's shines -- the work you do to input corrections into a dictionary format can help similar documents in basic recognition of font and language skill.

In order to get back to my original project of dealing with my card piles, I was able to get cards read into Entourage's address book in an average of 3 minutes per card. I'm not too quick at typing, but I might have entered them only slightly faster just by doing it all manually. But -- I haven't done this over time. And, I was sort of mesmerized by watching the scanner process my business card stack. That is the fast part. The other portion of the three minute average was spent looking over the scanned data (automatically exported from ReadIRIS Pro 9.0 into Entourage) and "proofing". I was very impressed by the quantity of correct data, even with "pretty" photograph enhanced business cards.

My business card organization project will be ongoing. But now I have a much better tool set.

I definitely recommend the Iris Business Card Reader, but I also recommend contacting the company to see when the enclosed version of software is upgraded, since I didn't benefit from the full corporate version of the software at the listed price.

The I/O card review

I think this is a very useful thing for graphics and isn't too hard to use, but I gave it 4* as not everyone will find it useful.

Still seeing fleas

Used this along with Advantage. My cat still appears to have some fleas. I live in FL and we've had a warm winter. The fleas seem to be somewhat resistant to just about everything.

Fabulous flatware!

I searched and searched for flatware that was good looking, durable enough for everyday use, and NOT made in China. This was a difficult task, to say the least. Luckily, I stumbled upon Rosanna flatware in the Neiman Marcus catalog and was instantly smitten (about everything BUT the price). Not only is this flatware beautiful and sturdy, but every piece is made in Italy. Even better, Amazon's price was seventy-five percent less than Neiman's...and I didn't have to pay one-cent in sales tax or shipping and handling charges. Trust me, you can't beat this deal. I love Amazon and I love my new flatware!

Not Just Your Basic Neighborhood Viking

Todd McFarlane has created a new Spawn legend set in the grim times before Norsemen set out on their great Viking raids. Eric Bloodaxe, the clan leader, agrees to combat between his men and Jorvak Skullsplitter's band. Jorvak is an old enemy and love rival who does not intend to have a fair battle. He seeks revenge, and has made a deal with Loki gain it. Pretending to yield, Jorvak uses a foul blow to send Eric spinning down to hell. There, the freezing cold shatters Eric's skin. Undaunted, he begins his return to battle. Now hideous to look upon, a new Blade enters the struggle against evil.

This figure is Eric right after his return. Hard to look at, draped in armor rich in Celtic and Norse designs, he is an imposing 7.5" figure. Packaged with him is the massive two-headed battle-axe that has earned him his name. As usual, McFarlane's artistic staff has created a detailed, beautifully painted and unnerving figure. The price of all the details though is some increase fragility if the figure is intended to be used in hand-to-hand play. For this reason, I feel that McFarlane's own rating of this figure (for five year olds and up) is overly optimistic.

If anything, the figure is over-articulated (22 points). This can make it hard to pose if you want put Eric in a middle of a ferocious axe swing. McFarlane's figures are often top heavy and easy to overbalance. Of course, if your intention is to put this figure on a display stand (none provided) this shouldn't be a serious issue.

This figure works well with all the others from this series (even as a stand-in on Thunderhoof), opening up the possibility of some serious (and large) dioramas. For display, expect to do more pinning (or gluing) than usual. Some figures from this series are becoming hard to find. Track them down now rather than endure the spasm of envy when you find one on someone else's shelves.

Durable for a Spawn Toy

The entire line of Spawn 22 action figures are based on a double joint shoulder system. Meaning the shoulder can rotate into any position you wish. The Blood axe is very durable compared to the tortured souls 2 series and features way more articulation. A total of 20 points, neck(ball joint), shoulders(double ball joint), wrists, elbow, chest, wraist, hips(ball joint), thigns, knees, ankles(right feet only)and foot. The axe itself can be disconnected into 3 different pieces in order to fit in the hand. The detail is excellent even for Spawn standards, in all this is a very detailed and poseable action figure. Not the best of Spawn 22 (The Skullspilter is by far the best) but well worth your money.

Very Awesome....

This is the best charachter from an incredibly good line. With amazing detail (the bloody skin coat was a great touch) , incredible weapons (HUGE battle axe), and it has the un-matched McFarlane style. This thing even has it's own story. Whether you are a serious toy collecter or just wan't something to play with, this is probably the way to go.

Better than Henckels.

I've used this set of knives for the last 8 years. When I am at my parents' house, they have a full set of the Henckels Twin Signature series knives. The Messermeisters are superior in heft and balance as well as in maintaining a cutting edge. Also, the paring knife in the Messermeister set is a much better size for peeling fruit. I like this set so much that I've bought 3 other sets as gifts for relatives.
