5Harman/Kardon AVR-520
By A Customer
I am extremely pleased with the rich, clear sound of my 520 receiver. DVD with optical cable is absolutely great. I had limited experience in home theater. So the setup was one step at a time; first the Denon speakers, tried the FM (very good), the Phillips DVD870P came next with optical out, then the VCR. I made at least three trips for various cables and speaker wire. One call to Harman/Kardon tech support. The call was promptly answered by a support tech (Steve). Steve must have thought that I was the village idiot, but he was pleasant and helpful. The remote is backlighted, it can balance the home theater speakers automatically, the on screen display is easy to use and the unit controls numerous audio/video sources, tape deck, TV, dvd, games... plenty of hookups. Plus there is a second remote... for listening to another source in a different room. The more I play with it, the more I learn I can do with it, but mostly I enjoy listening to full spacious music without having to crank up the volume. I would not hesitate to recommend the AVR-520.

5Awesome sound - would buy another
By A Customer
Don't be fooled here by reviewers that don't read the manual! This is an AWESOME amp! Using with JBL studio front, center and powered subwoofer, Audiosource 100 watt in-wall speakers. This amp powers them all with ease. I can't turn the amp volume all the way up, it's so loud, it hurts! Dolby 5.1 and DTS are immersive. Sure, the manual won't win a pulitzer, but it does the job. Common sense is also a must (lacking by some quick-to-complain reviewers here). Unit runs a bit hot, make sure you have sufficient ventilation. FM tuner may need an additional FM antenna, get the best one you can (Terk hi-end). Plenty of inputs to mix and match, which you can assign. A fourth input on front w/S-video, optical, etc. Have a Sony DVD 5.1/DTS player, mid-range stereo VCR, DD satellite receiver and older LD player. No problem with ANY of these and the HK. You may want to pick up analog to S-video converters so you won't have to change the input on your TV. Get the converters from RADIO SHACK ($...) - NOT THE MONSTER VERSION ($...), RS is obviously much cheaper. This makes all your inputs from RCA jacks S-video. Also - USE GOOD CABLES! Monster, Acoustical Research and some others. Not Radio Shack cables. Also use good speaker wire like Monster. YES - IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE! If you get a hum, you may need to plug the HK into it's own surge protector, check the manual. I like the remote, has a digital meter with speaker built-in to adjust your speakers! I have a large media room with 60" TV and this receiver delivers. Tested with MP3's, CD-R/W, VCD, movies like "Matrix"(the bullets whizz by!), "Gladiator", "Blade 2", "Saving Private Ryan", "Attack of the Clones" and others. Classy front looks great! This guy is heavy too, make sure you have a good cabinet to put it in.

55.1 never sounded better
By A Customer
For a semi-serious home theater enthusiast I have been extremely pleased with the AVR520. I switched to this reciever from an old Pioneer Elite VSX-97 and seriously consided another Pioneer Elite, Denon and Integra AVR's but found the sonic clarity unsurpassed by any of the other models. The receiver was easy to setup at the GUI was fairly easy to navigate. DVD's and CD's played on my Pioneer Elite DV F-07 DVD/CD Player have never looked or sounded better. The surround performance with this reciever is simply amazing. The Multi-room capability and the optional MP3 translator (allows MP3 playback from your computer through your reciever) are great additonal features.

5Great speakers with an incredible subwoofer
By Prerak Sanghvi
I bought my home theater system about a month ago, and I got these speakers as one of the components. I tried listening to several speaker systems at friends' houses and in stores before going for this set.

I didn't want to buy separate front, center and rear speakers since that often causes a problem of "unmatched speakers". In buying separate speakers, you need to take care and match the construction type, material of construction, etc of all the speakers. I didn't want that hassle and hence decided to go with a home-theater-speaker-system.

The four satellites in the system are all same with dual 3-inch woofers. This works well for the latest surround sound technologies like DTS, Dolby Digital 5.1, etc. The center speaker is also the same, but since it is to be used horizontally, there is a slight difference in the design of its outer casing.

All the speakers have 100 watts peak power, and they really sound loud (louder than I can tolerate in a 200 sq ft room) without much distortion. That is one of the important qualities of this speaker system - sound doesn't get distorted till really high volumes.

The speakers have good high frequency fidelity and have a very impressive capability for mid-range frequencies. The usual hole between the lowest frequency that satellites can play, and highest frequency that subwoofer can play is almost absent - an amazing feature for a speaker system in this price range.

The subwoofer accompanying this system is a 150 watts powered subwoofer, and believe me, there is no other subwoofer in this price range that can equal the thumping, thunderous, full, tight and rich bass of this subwoofer. The subwoofer is clearly the biggest selling point of this speaker system. The subwoofer has a selector for Auto On/Always On, which turns out to be a good power saver. It also has a knob to turn the bass up or down - which is also quite useful.

The system comes with all speaker cables you could need - three 30ft cables, and three 50ft cables! Also, it comes with wall mounting brackets for all 4 satellites (although front speakers are always better placed on stands - the JBL FS400 stands for this speaker system).

All in all, this speaker system rocks in every department of sound reproduction and I highly recommend it.

5Surprisingly good speakers
By A Customer
Moving into a townhouse with a smaller living room, I was forced to give up my Yamaha NS-A638 bookshelf speakers, which I liked very much. After a great deal of research into smaller speaker systems, both online and in stores, I decided to buy the JBL SCS150.

The sound from the speakers is surprisingly crisp and clear, given the fact that engineering a speaker that is both small and good-sounding is very difficult. The subwoofer's bass output is fantastic also. As a test, I played the beginning of "Saving Private Ryan," the end of "Star Wars: Episode II-Attack of the Clones," and the beginning of "Toy Story 2" (all on DVD). The sound was a marked improvement over my old speakers and they were even better at picking up some of the subtle background effects in the rears, compared to my old speakers.

Of course, a person can pay more for speakers that are smaller (the satellites measure 16" high) or even better sounding, but the JBL package is a good balance of budget and sound. As a nice rounding touch, the box also includes ample speaker wire and wall-mounting brackets.

There are only a few negatives. First, some people may not like the dark gray/silver casing of the speakers. I thought I would hate it myself, but I am beginning to think it is rather elegant. The subwoofer's physical size is rather large, almost the size of a small end table. Finally, my biggest complaint is the rather weird footprint of the satellite speakers ... it is not entirely flat and the holes underneath are set towards the back, meaning that owners will have to take a bit of caution as they hunt for compatible stands for these speakers. JBL does make a set of stands for them, which can be purchased on their website.

Overall, I'd highly recommend this package for those who want to do home theater in a room, but must do it with budget and space in mind.

4Excellent for Movies, but ...
By Amanda Richards
When it comes to movies, these speakers are amazing. Like being in a theatre all by yourself. You can hear every word clearly through the centre speaker, and the subwoofer can shake the house if you're not careful.

However, it is less than amazing for music, as it is deficient in the tweeter category, so your treble gets lost.

Movie buffs and gamers can rejoice - music fans won't be ecstatically happy.

5EXCELLENT SOUND AND VALUE!
By CQ DX
I had obtained these KLH speakers locally on sale for about 45 dollars the pair. I have them permanently outside above my patio, mounted under the eave of my house where they are minimally exposed to the elements, except of course temperature. The sound is excellent, and they sound a lot more expensive than they are. Providing your 'source' is good quality (I use a CD player and Yamaha receiver), and your speaker wire is not too thin or long, you will be surprised with the way they sound, and how well made they are. After being outside a full winter, they sound just as good now as they did new! I highly recommend these speakers, especially for outdoor use.

Product Description

If you are drawn to the beauty of stainless steel, yet are reluctant to sacrifice the cooking efficiency of aluminum, you can now have the very best of both worlds. A mirror polish stainless steel exterior, a heavy gauge conductive aluminum filling, and a satin finish stainless steel interior form a 3-ply disc. The disk is then formed into a pan shape, with walls and bottom of equal thickness, which allows heat to be conducted evenly. Glass lids allow you to monitor food and their domed design returns condensed moisture to foods. Stay cool handles feature an ergonomic design and secure attachment. A large sauce pan is very handy for soups, polenta, steaming veggies and a host of other tasks.

5The best I've ever used
By B. C. Specht
I have a very complete set of Calphalon Tri-Ply Stainless Cookware and it is fabulous. The quality and finish are superb. The handles are very securely attached with more rivets than the much more expensive All Clad cookware. The lids fit perfectly and the see-through tempered glass allows you to look inside to see if your water is coming to a boil without having to frequently lift the lid which allows heat to escape. This 4 1/2 quart pot is just that: 4 1/2 quart capacity. Some lines of multi-clad cookware claim the pot or pan is a certain capacity, but it falls far short. Not Calphalon! If they say it's a 4 1/2 quart pot, you can count on it!This pot has a loop-type "helper handle" opposite its main handle--a must when you get into a pot of this size. This makes it much easier and safer to move from the stove or to pour off hot liquids. Please note, this loop-style helper handle and the handles on the pot lids will get hot during stovetop cooking, so you'll need to use pot holders or oven mit to protect your hands. The long handles will stay cool enough to touch during stovetop cooking, but if you put the pan or pot into the oven, all surfaces will get hot and you will need hand protection. This cookware is very sturdy and heavy with a layer of heat-transmitting aluminum sandwiched in between the outer and inner layers of stainless steel so it heats evenly and quickly. This aluminum layer runs all around the sides as well as the bottom of the cookware. If you are making delicate sauces that can scorch easily, you don't have to worry with this pot. I have cooked a lot of rice, cheese sauces, bechamel or starchy sauces but, with low heat and occasional stirring, they don't stick or scorch on the bottom of this sauce pot. They cook evenly and perfectly. Not even my (thinner) non-stick pots can do that! You can use this cookware on all sorts of smooth cooktops, as well as on conventional gas or electric stoves. They have perfectly flat bottoms that maintain contact with the cooking surface. They won't warp with high heat. They can be moved directly from the stove top to the oven or go under the broiler. All of my Calphalon Tri-Ply Stainless cookware have a smooth pouring lip which I consider essential for any good sauce pot. If you are pouring hot liquids out of a pot with a straight side and no pouring lip, you never know where they will go. More often than not, they will run down the outside of the pot and all over the counter or floor! That has never happened when I use a pot with this well designed pouring lip.Clean up is easy. I always hand wash my Calphalon Tri-Ply, as the manufacturer recommends. After cooking, I rinse out the pots and pans and run a little clear water in the bottom to soften any food residue while we have dinner. If you have some really crusted-on deposits on the bottom of the pan (this is called fond), deglaze the pan with a little plain water and turn a on a low heat under the pan. Stir for about one minute to scrape the food deposits off the bottom. They'll come off like magic. Let the pan cool, then wash in hot, sudsy water and use some Barkeeper's Friend for Stainless Steel cleanser for any stubborn food stains (such as starchy marks left from cooking pasta or rice). They'll clean up beautifully. Rinse well and dry them immediately to avoid any unsightly hard water spots that might dry on them otherwise.A tip: Any stainless steel pot or pan can develop mineral stains if you add salt to cold water and then heat it to a boil. The salt won't dissolve in the cold water and it sits on the bottom of the pot or pan reacting with the heat from the burner under the pan. The resulting mineral stains may never come out but they will not affect the performance of the cookware in the slightest. Always wait until your water comes to a boil before adding any salt and stir it immediately so it will dissolve quickly. You will not have any problems with mineral stains if you do this.If you are looking for quality cookware that will last a lifetime, I highly recommend this line of Calphalon Tri-Ply Stainless Steel cookware. It's as good as the much more expensive All Clad, in my opinion, but much more affordable. I have some All Clad, but it's my Calphalon Tri-Ply that I use the most. They really are a lifetime investment and one that you may want to pass on down to your children.

5Pantastic!
By N. Provencher
These pans are the best. I've collected just about all of them over the years and have one in every size and style available. I also have the Calphalon Commercial, Calphalon One and All-Clad pans - these Tri-Ply Stainless pans get the most use and are my all-time favorites.

5Beautiful and Useful
By V. Guglani
It is the best pan i have ever used and is comparable to my All Clad in performace and looks. I bought the whole set and am very very happy with it. I cook a lot for my family and i think since i have started using try ply pots and pans, my cooking has improved further{more even cooking and better browning}.The handle does stay cool throughout cooking and cleaning is easy. I love it!

5Workhorse little pan
By A Customer
I use this little guy constantly. A one-quart size is usually too small. A two-quart is often too big. This one's just right. It is well balanced, making it easy to wield. And it is high quality, providing superb performance. Being only slightly less "hefty" than All Clad, it heats very evenly. It's advantages over All Clad, however, are the see-thru lid, which is engineered to drain condensation back into the pan, and the well-designed rim, which dependably pours in a coherent, nondribble stream that doesn't make a mess all over the stove. The cool-V handle indeed stays cool (at least it has for the up-to-30-minute stretches I've used it).The rivets detract somewhat from the smooth interior; however, a trip thru the dishwasher (although anathema to some) always cleans it up perfectly. Also, I learned years ago never to cook anything in stainless steel that leaves a residue that tends to stick like glue. Thus I do not use this pan for such things as oatmeal, scrambled eggs, or pasta. Those foods are best cooked in nonstick or LeCreuset. But for heating a can of soup, boiling a few eggs, simmering pasta sauce, making cocoa, or etc., THIS little guy is perfect. If you don't have a nice stainless pan this size, you're in for a treat if you try this one.

5Love it!
By A Customer
This is a nice size saucepan. I like it better than the 1 quart I owned before - a little more useful. The glass dome lid is great and so is the clean up. The cleaning pad and cleanser they recommend work great. Stuck on sauces come of with minimal effort. Food can get under the rim of the lid and around the rivets but a scrub brush gets it right out and I'd rather have the rivet handles than the screwed on ones I owned before that would loosen and eventually broke off. It's heavy duty construction makes it a good purchase that will last a long time.

5lovely little pan
By A. Reiheld
What a fine addition to my slowly-growing collection of Tri-Ply. This one, which I use almost daily, is perfect for boiling a couple of eggs, heating a can of soup, or, best of all, making a perfect Hollandaise from scratch. The practical size and good heft of the pan make no-curdle sauces easy. The trick is to have the ingredients at room temperature, and to gently heat the pan a little before adding them. As with any Tri-Ply pan, remember that this pan conducts heat so efficiently that you'll want to use a much lower heat setting than you're accustomed to. When the sauce is finished, pour it into a serving dish or gravy boat, and put the pan in the sink to soak. Clean-up then requires just a swish with a soapy sponge. My several Tri-Ply pans, like my good knives, make me wonder why I didn't invest in decent stuff years, no, decades earlier.

5The best meat pan for your money!
By I. Koehncke
This pan was highly recommended by America's Test Kitchen, and they were not kidding! The wide bottom holds a lot of meat and browns it nicely, with hardly any sticking. Retains heat better than my nonstick pan. Larger cuts such as whole pork tenderloins and thick-cut pork chops can go straight from stove-top searing to oven-roasting. Not too heavy, and very smooth at the bottom - great for glass-top stoves! Cleans up nicely, too. This will be your no. 1 pan for browning meat!

5Absolutely top quality and beautiful pan for short money
By D. C. Rennie
I have been cooking since I could stand on a chair next to my mom when she cooked. That's about 37 years now. I make everything from scratch and use fresh ingredients. When I was about 20, my (now) ex-wife bought me a set of T-Fal cookware. I used them so many years I can't imagine how. (Without regret both her and the T-Fal are long gone now). Well, I started shopping for cookware that matched my cooking abilities. Not a pro but no one spits out the food I make either. After a ton of research I decided to score this pan. I had a gazillion points on my Amex card so I was able to order this pan for free. I figured what the heck, if I don't like it, I just have the one pan and I couldn't beat the price. I got the pan in and couldn't wait to start flingin ' food. Since then I have aquired 2 more pans of the same variety, 2 sauce pans and am planning on a couple more to round out the set. Don't hesitate to buy these if you enjoy cooking at all. This is the best quality I have found for this sort of money. It heats evenly and cooks evenly! Cleaning is very easy. On ocassion I have burned on some bits on the bottom of the pan and have read some reviews complaining that it is hard to clean when this happens. The answer is simple. If you find you crusted up the bottom, when you are all done, heat the pan up on high and pour in enough water to cover the bottom and gently push a wooden spatula around. It will come off almost immediately. If you use wine or some other favorite beverage its call ed deglazing and you can use the reduced liquid to make a fine sauce or gravy. Conclusion, top quality pans for a very affordable price. A+

5I love it - no plastic!
By Smidgeon
We have gotten concerned about non-stick coatings so we switched to stainless. After buying my last teflon pan that contained the warning about not using it near a pet bird's cage! They can suffocate from the fumes...whoa, we don't need to be breathing that either! Calphalon Tri-Ply Stainless 12-Inch Omelet Pan is wonderful However, it is not rated no. 1 by Martha or America's Test Kitchen like the overpriced All Clad overpriced pan. I spent $75 on the Calphalon and it is the best pan I've ever enjoyed. My sister in law has the All-Clad, she regrets spending too much after trying mine. I don't put it through the dishwasher, and eggs don't stick if you cook on med.-low.

5Does the job
By Erika Mitchell
This pot rack is a heavy duty iron pot rack with a large storage capacity. When it arrived, I could barely lift the package by myself. Working together with my father-in-law, we had it assembled and installed in about an hour using a screw driver and pliers (not included). The assembly instructions were clear, so we had no goof-ups. I've got my pot rack mounted over an island that divides my kitchen from my dining room, where it provides a good visual separation of the two areas without blocking communication between them. It also has excellent storage capacity- -it holds all of my cooking pots and frying pans as well as their lids. I keep some of my extra-large bowls in the rack on top.

Since I'm only 5' 2", I get quite annoyed with most kitchen cabinets because they all seem to be too high to be of any use to me. But with this pot rack, the pots all hang down where I can reach them, yet they're still high enough so that my 6' tall husband can work at the island counter beneath the pots and not bump his head. To reach items on the top rack, however, I need to get a chair because it's about 7' off the ground. If the rack were hung any lower, then the hanging pots would get in the way of the counter, so you really need at least an 8' ceiling to use this rack properly.

I've been quite satisfied with the quality of this pot rack. The price was about a quarter of the one that our kitchen designer had originally selected for us. I can't imagine what extra features the luxury brand might have brought us because I don't see where this one has cut corners in looks or sturdiness at all.

5Quality at an incredible price
By Bruce W Ford
I purchased this rack sight unseen with some trepidation. Mine is the 36 x 18 Chrome model and I could not be more impressed. Easy to assemble with only the installation of ceiling anchors being somewhat difficult for the average person. These must be anchored to a beam in order to support the weight.

I have owned other pot racks and shopped extensively in design stores and on the web for similar products and I have to say that there is, in my opinion, nothing better designed, engineered or constructed close to this rack at even double the price.

I recommend that you measure carefully being buying and use a stud finder or other device in order to ensure that you can hang this heavy rack as location will be dictated by the beams running across your ceiling. Hopefully you will find one that runs across and then location will be easy. Otherwise remember beams are located on 16" centres and once you find one the other will be located directly above the second hanging hook of the rack.

Buy this product........you will not regret it.

5Absolutely A Great Rack
By A Customer
After very thorough research I selected this pot rack as the very best & a tremendous value. It looks absolutely great in my kitchen and I was able to empty a large lower double cabinet loaded with pots & pans & lids etc. Which were continually scattered. What a tremendous difference! Everything is right there at eye level. Everyone who sees it, wants to have one. A fairly high cieling is a good idea and measuring beforehand is smart. It can store alot of items in an easy, convenient fashion. It MUST be secured to a good beam or better, a floor joist...you might want a pro to do that if the beams are concealed. My copper rack holds about 30 various pots and pans, and lids, and sizzle platters and everything. Maybe about 150 lbs. And beautifully & functionally. 5 STARS
