4"Smile you son of a....."

If you're a horror or just plain film fan you have to own this awesome piece of memorabilia. Not so much a "toy" as a model it captures the thrilling ending of the classic, JAWS perfectly even coming with a little "Quint" that you can fit into JAW's gaping maw. (How cute, he even comes apart at the waist revealing bloody innards, awwww!) The only gripe I have (call me crusty like good 'ol Quint I suppose) is that this is so much a sculpture and not a toy. I would've liked to be able to close JAW's mouth or be able to remove him from the playset like their King Kong is able to. These are minor gripes though it is still cool as all hell. Suggestion: Make a JAWS 2 figure with a removeable JAWS shark or better yet make an 18" JAWS with a mini-Roy Schieder! Bottom line: Own this great Mcfarlane, you movie maniacs!!

5Finally! A Jaws collectible!
By Daniel V. Reilly
Fans looking to get a small slice of their favorite movie will be in heaven with the Jaws Box Set. McFarlane Toys does their usual top-notch job on the sculpting and detailing, and the value-for-money is great. The set includes the doomed ship Orca, complete with Jaws himself (itself?), rising up onto the deck to consume the Skipper, Quint. Quint is the capper to a great toy: he is able to split into two pieces, and fits perfectly into Bruce's mouth....... The details on this toy are PHENOMENAL!! From the perfectly sculpted waves to the look on Quint's face, McFarlane Toys really pulled out all the stops. They even perfectly re-created the interior of the Orca, which most people would probably never even notice.

I brought this set to work with me, to show a friend, and everyone that passed my desk had to stop and play with it. Everybody wanted to have one of their own......

Note to McFarlane toys: MORE!!!!!

4Beautiful detail, great price
By A Customer
I'm not a collector of McFarlane movie models, but since JAWS is one of my favorite films I couldn't resist this beautifully crafted set piece. If you're a McFarlane fan or a JAWS fan or know someone who is, do not pass this item up. I just wish that it had not taken a quarter of century for a decent Jaws "toy" to come along. Although this is more of a static model than a toy, the fact that the figure of Quint can be inserted in the shark's mouth, stood on deck, or even "bitten" in half, gives this model some minor degree of playability. I still, however, would like to see someone come out with a fully playable action figure line for Jaws... perhaps for the 30th Anniversary of the film? (Hint, hint!)

Now the negatives for this item, which are very minor. The figure of Quint is great, but where's Chief Martin Brody? While Quint was being eaten in this scene, Brody had a front row seat and the model seems incomplete without him. But I won't remove a star in my overall rating because of this.

What's really preventing this from being a five-star review is the Orca's "rigging" which present the only "assembly required" aspect of this item. The guy wires supporting the mast are made of common string. One end of the six strings are glued to the top of the mast, and plastic plugs are glued to the other end of the string. You have to insert these tiny plugs into their tiny fittings on the deck. Unfortunately, these plugs can easily pull away from the string since they are only glued to the string.

After you've done this, the central guy wires, which attach to the deck of the flying bridge, look rather limp because the fore and aft guy wires are more taunt and are what are really stabilizing the mast. So, I decided to make my own rigging out of very thin and pliable metal wire which I found at the hardware store. No need for those plastic plugs anymore. After removing the string from the top of the mast, I wrapped the six wires around the mast and crimped the end other end of the wire though the deck fittings. It actually looks better this way because the the wire is thinner than the string and is therefore proportional to the size of the model. Besides, in the movie, if you look closely, the Orca's guy wire's were metallic anyway.

So despite the fact I had to make my own improvements to the model, and the fact there should have been a Chief Brody figure included, I still give this item four-stars for the exceptional craftsmanship and the unbelievably reasonable price.
