4Impressive looks, shoddy construction.

This is a great LOOKING toy. The scale is very impressive, and the Interceptor design has always been one of my favorites with those sinister-looking, dagger-like wings. Put it together and hold it in your hands and it's just - WOW. It's huge and VERY cool.But...The figure is not up to Hasbro's usual standards-the head is VERY wobbly and it's impossible to pose it in place. The neck hole is obviously way too big for the post the head is on (or is the post too small?). The effect is like an old wacky wobbler baseball head doll- you know, wwith the giant head on the spring? I would've prefered to see a decent head attatchment to the bendable knees, which as another reviewer mentioned, doesn't make any difference because the only way to fit him into the cockpit is with his legs strait. Then there's the other problem - the springs that launch the wings. Mine were rusted. VERY rusted-the whole surface was orange with oxidation. Bits of metal flake off every time I attatch or detatch the wings. I suspect that Hasbro had a bunch of left-over parts from the TIE fighter they released a few years back on the cockpit section, and just reused them and rushed it out the door. maybe they thought most buyers were collectors who wouldn't open the box, so they could get away with a few sloppy parts. So it's a great looking toy, but poorly made. I guess when it falls apart I can always just say that Han Solo shot it.

4TIE Interceptor
By Robert D Shofner
A few observations....

This is, overall, a cool toy, but I was let down by a couple of things.

The wings: The vintage wings took decals, the new wings are textured & painted. That part of it is cool, but whereas the vintage wings are nice, hard plastic, the new wings are slightly flexible and don't appear to keep their shape as well as the old ones. The new wings have an added feature of some clear plastic engine looking things on the back, and I'm not sure why-- the picture in the starwars.com database did not have such a feature on the vehicle. IMHO, the "safe" flexible wings detract from the toy. I think I might prefer the old wings, which is a shock to me becasue I was really looking forward to the new ones.

The Cockpit: This one featues a sticker that is different than the old one. The chair doesn't raise out like it did on the old one, but on the otherhand the glass is painted to make it appear that the steel beams supporting the glass are present. The new cockpit doors lock shut, the old ones don't. I think I like the new cockpit better.

The color on the new toy is more accurate, but I kind of like the old dark gray too.

Extra Featues: The old toy has the buzzing light and exploding wings. The new toy has exploding wings. I don't know if I wish I had some sort of light and sound package, but it is disappointing that the space for the sound/light upgrade is present, but the feature is not.

While the unique pilot figure looks basically the same as the old one (the old POTF2 figure, not the vintage), there are some differences. Most disappointing is the fact that the head on MY figure is very loose and seems like it could fall off at a moments notice (I don't know if it is the same with all figs). The legs, however, are very nice. The knees are bendable (they didn't need to be-- the cockpit chair is still flat) and the legs actually stick straight out when the pilot is in a sitting position, hence, the legs aren't pinched when the fig. is placed in the cockpit. I'm really happy with that, but I just wish the head didn't bobble.

I really felt the packaging for this toy was lame.

All in all, I'm please with the toy. I wish the wings were stronger and I wish the figure's head was fastened tighter, but other than that, I can't complain too much. My advice is to pick one up, but don't feel that it is a full replacement for a vintage interceptor.

The Pilots head wobbles. It is not tight at all. Beware.
