5Working for all our kids, ages 1 to 5
By Cate
This was a Christmas gift for our 3-year-old. If a hit, we planned on buying the Pro version for our 5.5 year-old and "My First Leap Pad" for our toddler. Well, it's a hit! All the kids use it, even our 1-year-old. We love the Internet connection and the free subscriptions.

All the books we use are Level 1. The 5-year-old recognizes the letters and numbers and likes to play the games. I've caught him sounding out words, trying to read. I think this toy has really sped up the process!

Our 3-year-old is learning her letters with this toy, and also learned how to follow instructions--initially she wouldn't tap the green circle on each page and couldn't figure out why things didn't match up. Now she understands how to set up the books, how to insert a cartridge, etc. This in turn has enhanced her computer skills, puzzle skills, etc.

The 1-year-old enjoys Richard Scarry and Pooh portion of the book that comes with the LeapPad. She's even learned how to turn it on, how to insert the book, and how to tap the green circle! Unbelievable (she'll be 2 next month, so she's on the older side of 1). She loves the sounds and voices from tapping characters.

The kids love the weekly activities we get from our free 6-month subscription to the LeapPad club. Only problem is, we probably need an extra cartridge to keep the magazine separate from the weekly sheets. Each time you download it overwrites...so you can't do both at the same time without another cartridge.

We also purchased the backpack--it's great. Keeps everything together, and protects the LeapPad during travel. Definitely get one of those.

I think this is one of the best toys we'll ever buy, and I would highly recommend one.

Only downside is the LeapPad books--spiral binding, easy for kids to rip the pages. Sturdy enough pages, but the kids don't always turn pages carefully.

Good selection of books, good variety within books. So much to click on and look at, it'll take a while to get bored.

Enjoy!

5Grandchild "leaps" over her lessons with this product...
By Antonio R Villanova
I sent this to my 6 (soon to be 7) yr old granddaughter. My son tells me that she hasn't put it down yet, which is music to my ears. He told me that she finds it easy to use & lots of fun. He really appreciates the parental interface which teaches him how to show her many of the lessons that it teaches. That allows him to become involved with her use of this very well thought out educational toy. The computer interface was a bit tough getting the downloads, but that may have been due to the time of year more than anything else he said. All in all this was a great Chrsitmas present for my granddaughter. It is an educational toy in the truest sense and that scores very high marks with me.

4Wonderful AND Disappointing
By A Customer
I bought this as a Gold Box offer. Then, I saw the version that has a part that the children write on. I wish I could have paid a little more and received the upgraded version.

Before you buy the LeapPad Advantage, look at the LeapPad Plus Writing.

My daughter does enjoy the LeapPad. It's not her favorite thing like lots of children, but we got it for the educational value more than for entertainment.
