4Not knowing much, but...
By A Customer
I bought this receiver to replace my old Sony receiver that I've had for 12 years! Why? Because I finally got a DVD player. My old receiver didn't have a specific place to hook up the DVD (it was made before there WERE DVDs), but it was Dolby prologic. It was the prototype, but I didn't think it would handle the DVDs, so I went out and bought this new one. After much hand-wringing on which model to get, I settled for this one; it was easy to hook up and had everything I needed to get going. My 3-year old TV does NOT have S-connection (THAT was a mistake) and so this receiver is just fine for now (although it DOES have s-connection).

The price was right on, and the Clicker is awesome; it will run my VCR, TV, CD player and Receiver--to eliminate juggling all those clickers was worth the purchase price alone! I really would have gotten the 845 model instead, for a tad more money and the room to "grow" but I'm embarrased to say that it wouldn't fit on my jazzy glass entertainment center, but this 475 would. Done deal!

It's 80 watt vs. 100 watt, but hey, I'm not one of those people that need to make the room rumble and pierce eardrums, so this is plenty for me. I did hook up 5 speakers for surround sound, and what can I say? After plain old stereo TV this is killer! Must buy fun DVDs; Matrix, Verticle Limit, Dinosaur, Gladiator--anything that really rocks! You'll love it.

4A good entry-level receiver with the works!
By P. Caballes
This is a good entry-level a/v receiver, that has the basic works one would need: DTS, 5.1, digital inputs, and a good selection of preset sound effects. It is rated with 80watts of power, but again, this is more than enough for the average user. Paired with a good set of speakers, this set really gives good quality sound.I wanted to rate it 5 stars, but one thing I noticed it lacks is more digital inputs. It has 1 optical and 1 coaxial digital input - it would've been better is Sony put it at least 3 inputs (1 coax, 2 optical). Other than that, this set is right on the money and worth every penny :-)

5Great receiver for those with a budget
By A Customer
For what it is, this is a wonderful receiver. Yes, it's only 80W per speaker, etc, etc. But unless you have REALLY good sound insulation or are trying to anger your neighbors, it has plenty of power. Sounds are crisp and clear in 5.1 my lower end Bose speakers. It certainly made a difference when I hooked up the DVD to the digital input (coaxial is DVD on this receiver) and played The Matrix for the first time. It certainly didn't need to be anywhere near the top volume for that to impress me. Definately one to look at if appreciate good sound, but don't want to pay the multiple $K for the top of the line. There are plenty of good speakers that this will power just fine.
