5HM0810B - the best chipping hammer on the market!
By Dennis Conspec
the HM0810B is the best, lightweight hammer on the market. 2900 blows per minute, with a weight of only 11.7lbs. This is the hammer that should be used for chiseling, chipping and scaling, NOT the HK1810, which should only really be used for removing tile and plaster.

5Great
By Max Power
Light weight, easy to handle, but powerful. In case you were wondering, this is not a rotary tool, you cannot drill holes into concrete. This is strictly a demolition tool. Spline shank are different than SDS max bits but work similarly in that the bit is directly impacted, which is the most efficient energy transfer, rather than an entire chuck being moved. There are adapter bits you can use if you want to use your SDS bits in this. Not having the rotary feature means there is less to go wrong, as the dial that switches between hammer and rotation almost always is the thing that goes out on these types of tools. It also makes the entire movement more solid. On some SDS drill chucks if you use the beat-only option it will permanently add play to the movement. I think having a tool dedicated to hammering and a tool dedicated to drilling is the way to go for maximum longevity and long-term will stretch your money the farthest. To see the types of bits you can get for this type in "spline shank" in amazon and cross off the ones that are spiral bits.Hope that helps.

4Best Log Dog Chip Hammer on market to date
By Jay Banderob
After years (20) of use of this and other models and brands, this particular model makita still stands head and shoulders above all others for both performance and durability in the hard daily use of the log home industry. It has suplanted all other makes and models to become the industry standard. Still it(and virtually all others) require minor modification in this application: Lose the sappy varro-handle, and create your own 2-3"x long log gouge. Or have it created for you (spendy).
