5This is cool!
By G. Ferguson
This tool works really well in planing down concrete. We stain a lot of concrete, and sometimes, especially around floor plugs, the finisher will leave it real rough. This planes it down to be quite smooth, and in nothing flat (pun intended). (The only downside, of course, is that it will expose the sand and aggregate, which won't take the color the same - this needs to be explained to the customer first). You can use it to get more aggressive with leveling out uneven concrete edges as well (like between two separate slabs of a sidewalk or something).Update May 2008OK, now that we've used it a bunch, there are a few things that would cause me to take it down a half star or maybe one star...1. The roller in front really limits how close you can get to a wall, as you might guess, especially in corners.2. Replacing the diamond wheel is quite expensive (like $350 or so).3. As much as you tell the customer "it won't look the same, because you are grinding down and exposing the sand and aggregate", they are really listening with their heart, rather than their heads, so there is a potential for disappointment.4. As much as you tell the customer "as a a planer it will only remove mountains, it won't fill in valleys", they are really listening with their heart, rather than their heads, so there is a potential for disappointment. We still use this tool, but I now like the Bosch 1773 Bosch 1773AK 10 Amp 5-Inch Concrete Surfacing Grinder better. We used the Bosch nearly exclusively for a while, until it was stolen (As an aside - I never actually sell a used power tool, I just keep getting them fixed until they are stolen. Sigh).
