4Warp 5, Mr. Sulu
By Tracy Rowan
Sleek, silver and glowing - I have this space-age thing on my desk that delights me. It's improved the position of my hand so that my CTS has ebbed, though I still need a wrist rest and frequent breaks. All the buttons, including the wheel button, are programmable, bringing the total of moving gizmos to 5 buttons a trackball and a wheel. This alone is reason to fiddle endlessly with it, trying to come up with the best combination of programming to suit the natural play of your hand. If anything, there are too many possible combinations of function, and you may spend a week or more playing with this puppy before you find a workable group of settings.

The functions are smooth, and reasonably reliable, depending on the position your hand takes. I find the left-hand buttons difficult to hit correctly with my thumb, thanks to some nerve damage so I reprogrammed them until I found a way that was comfortable for me to work. I strongly suggest you do the same.

If you're running Win XP, you'll have to d/l the newest Intellipoint drivers, but that's not a big deal. Installation is a snap with Plug 'n' Play.

I never thought I'd find anything that pleased me as much as my old Logitech trackball, but I have to say that I think this one might do it. Time will tell. But right from the start, I found it worth the investment.

5Won't use anything else!
By Snerticus
I bought this a few years ago...being used to the average two button mouse it took a little while getting used to. However, now I won't use anything else! I wish they came out with a cordless version. It fits my hand so well and the buttons that were a little awkward to use at first are now so easy to use and well placed. I scroll and click with my thumb and move the wheel with my forefinger. The other two programmable buttons to the right of the wheel are clicked with your middle and ring fingers, and the whole device fits my hand like a glove. You barely have to move your fingers to use the buttons, once you get used to the layout and you can even place the trackball horizontally or diaganolly in front of you (which I do) - which is why I don't ever feel "awkward" the way one of the reviewers does. If you place the trackball vertically with the cord facing north, you will ulitmately have a fatigued hand. But after getting used to the layout of this trackball, you don't have to keep it vertical anymore and can place it any way you like. Once placed in a position that is comfortable, it is so natural to operate that using a mouse again is so uncomfortable. If you have the patience to try this out, I highly recommend it. I haven't been able to find a cordless trackball that even comes close to this...pity!EDIT FROM ORIGINAL POST: It is now September of 2009 and I still have - and love - my Trackball Explorer! I wish I could find another, but currently Amazon has a new one from a seller for $699. That's about $650 over my price range. My Trackball has been dropped a million times and although it's starting to fizz out on me every now and again, it's been with me for 10 years. I don't want to part with it but I think it's been dropped one too many times. All the buttons work and the ball still rolls as smooth as the day I bought it, but the circuits/wires inside the base short out if I bump them in a certain way, so I try to keep it as still as possible now. This little old man still has spunk in him though. I'm considering a Logitech Cordless Optical TrackMan next. It's the closest I can find to my Trackball Explorer. I contacted Microsoft and asked them to reconsider manufacturing these again. They told me (paraphrased here) "Sorry, but no." Well, Logitech, the (track)ball is in your court now, please make one almost exactly like this!

5There is simply no better trackball available
By Harry Littell
I have been using a MS Trackball Explorer for several years. It has saved me as I have carpel tunnel and cervical damage and if I use a mouse for any length of time my hand pain increases. (I also use a Natural Pro Keyboard).I can't believe that some people are upset and condemn it because the device has a short cord! The trackball connects by USB and the movements are seamless. Any trackball is going to get dirty but this one is so easy to clean. All I do is pop out the ball, remove the dust or whatever from the three points the ball rotates on, wipe the ball with a tissue and it is as good as new. I would say that the contours are not ideal (nor could they be) as it seems the contours are better fit for me if the device were mounted about 8 inches higher than my keyboard tray. As it is, it causes my wrist to drop and it is uncomfortable in that respect, but using the two right buttons to navigate online (back and forward) is a total breeze and makes going through pages very fast and comfortable.Intellipoint software allows you to control almost every aspect of its movement, which makes it even better.Personally I like where the scroll button is as well as the buttons for right and left clicks. I think I am going to try to devise some sort of mount so it will elevate the rear by about 15 degrees or so. This way my hand will go forward and there will be even less strain.I used Logictech trackballs in the past and I did not like them. With all its faults, and there are some, this trackball is for me by far the best, the easiest to navigate online with, and extremely precise in terms of cursor movement. It does slide around a bit and to solve this I put a small piece of that foamy rubbery shelf liner stuff under it--and where my wrist rests on the keyboard tray--and it works perfectly. It is simply a matter of using your own ingenuity to make something that is already superb even better!

5The "Assault on Blackreach" has made its way into your home!
By Gradient Vector Field
This is definitely a great set if you're a beginner in the world of Warhammer 40k like me. This box set gets you up and running immediately. It comes with over fifty miniatures, templates, and a comprehensive rule book! The price is close to that of just the hardcover rule book itself, so if you want to just check out the world of Warhammer 40k without investing too much, then this is where you need to start. This way you can really tell if you enjoy playing through the game and see if building an army is a hobby you really want to invest in. And trust me; it IS an investment after a while. The ridiculously minor drawback is that you can only get this set with Space Marines and Orks as the two opposing forces. While I'm not so driven to play either of these armies, I can't deny the usefulness in getting acquainted with the game in this set. My friends and I have been using this set in order to learn how to play the game rather than using our main forces. The small 95 page rule book has all the rules of the game; in fact they are the same exact ones you'll find in the hardcover three hundred page book. The only difference between the two is that the hardcover book gives you a lot more background information about the different armies and some good painting tips. One of the other major benefits to this starter kit is how easy it is to put together. The models are designed to snap fit together, which is great for beginners. I've put together some decently complex models, like the tanks and the Forge-World miniatures, and by comparison the "Assault on Black Reach" set is a walk in the park. It put together very simply for me and I didn't even have to do much touch up work. There was nothing I had to seal with epoxy due to gaps and so forth. You can put together the entire force in a few hours or if you're in a rush to play you can probably put an entire unit together in less than an hour. The only touch ups I really took time to deal with was gluing on a few arms here and there, especially with the Ork army. I found their arms were a little loose a lot of times and tended to fall off.If you're very interested in painting your newly built army then I actually don't recommend you pick up the "Assault on Black Reach" paint set. It's now out of print, but I managed to track it down. It only gives you enough paint and the colors for the Space Marine units. It doesn't give you anything for the Ork army and it only comes with instructions on how to paint the Space Marines, so if you want to paint that really cool Terminator figure, you're on your own. The upside is the paint set does come with five more Space Marine's so you can increase the size of your force a little more.If you really want to delve into the world of painting then I recommend you look into the "Battle for MacCragge" hobby set. I don't own this product yet, but it does appear to come with enough paint for the full force in that set. The only downside is it's Space Marines versus the Tyranids, so if you really liked the Orks and wanted to learn how to paint them the same way, then you're out of luck for these starter sets. It works a bit more for me because I want to play as the Tyranids.Overall I think this is a great beginner product. The only way I think they can improve it is give it more of a story oriented background and involve the new players in the universe a little more. I was kind of half expecting that based on the title of this box set. Maybe I'm too used to other forms of boxed modules. Anyway, if you want to get into this incredibly engrossing hobby, then I highly recommend this set.

5Excellent Starter set, great way to teach your kids patience, strategic thinking.
By T. Atkins
I bought this box set for my 11 year old son due to his love of the companion computer game, "Dawn of War". We discussed it in length before buying something that has so much effort and time involved to make it worthwhile. It was a good move. The set comes with two armies you must assemble and painstakingly paint (if you want the full effect). My son spent the first month building each piece and painting them as best he could. With a little "Testors" paint and a few fine brushes, its not too difficult to get a good result, with each piece taking about an hour to complete. It was a great lesson in patience and he values the effort put in each one, as it is really the first thing he has taken good care of we have bought him.As a dad, i wanted to give him an opportunity to experience the "full effect"; which means a small battlefield for his pieces to play on. Reading up on the back-story of the "Black Reach" i created a small, 8 square foot gaming table on a piece of hard-board using Styrofoam, tubing, wood and a lot of sand and paint. It was a good bonding exercise for the both of us and I fount it to be a lot of fun. It isn't totally necessary to spend a fortune, $60 in materials can go a very long way if you are a DIY type. So, after a month of construction and the joys that comes along with it, we were up and running with two armies. The game has fairly detailed rules, but its orderly and everyone goes in turn. A roll of the dice keeps the pace moving well and it took about 3 hours for our first go at it. I mopped the floor with him, and he cried.. Ok.. i'm kidding about that part. It was actually really fun for both he and I. In the end, it is an entertaining and imaginative game that he now has his friends firmly into and they are all really mature about it. His friends are now building their own armies and they all take it fairly seriously, as the kids pile around the game table instead of the video games or tv.The creativity is amazing and the strategy to "get it right" keeps the boys (and me) really thinking the whole time. This is a perfect set to start things off right, has everything you need out of the box (except that game board, but you can even use a kitchen table!). I whole-heartedly recommend this set to anyone that wants to begin playing or wants to teach their interested "tweens or teens" some valuable lessons.

4Great Bonding Experience
By S. Christiansen
The purchase of this product reminded me of those times that my dad worked with my brothers building models. I am very happy to get the chance to repeat that with my boys. Be sure to get model glue as some of the pieces need help staying in place. Add paints with your purchase so that you are ready to complete your project. The pieces are small and it is very time consuming but I have found the experience to be worth it. Remember to bring plenty of patience as it can be difficult at times.

4It's a great table--now that they've changed the design!
By M. Murphy
I am a children's pastor and we set up our church in an elementary school every week. We have purchased at least 8 of these, and use them rigorously, as many as 50 kids a day sit at these tables. Other [people] have complained that the tables fall apart too easily, and I agree--But! About half of our tables were purchased more than 2 years ago, and they do have a tendancy to fall apart when you're trying to set it up, or take it down. (I've never had one collapse once it was set up.) But last year they changed the design a tiny little bit, and solved the problem completely. I am so glad they did, and I'm replacing all of my old ones with the new ones. I don't know how you can make sure that you're getting the new design, but if yours falls apart--then you know!

5Stands up to Mother Nature
By Sarah L. Rinelli
Our Little Tykes Easy Store Table with bench seats came courtesy of Santa this last Christmas, and has been sitting outside ever since! It's just as beautifully bright as the day we bought it, and cleans up in a snap before the children use it with 409 and a paper towel. It's in a completely uncovered area in the backyard, and does not look worn or faded one bit! Santa's helpers had to assemble this in the wee hours of the morning, using flashlights, and the whole thing came together in under 5 minutes.

This table provides fun extra seating when friends come over to play, or perfect sized place to color or eat. It's worth every penny you'll spend.

5A Fun Table for Reading, Eating, Coloring...
By A Customer
My 2 boys (aged 2 & 3) loved this the first time they saw it at the mall! It's just the right height for them, although I find the table's edge to be too close to the bench side -- bigger kids would have to lean back a little. The table is very sturdily built and "well grounded"; it doesn't tip up/over (like a seesaw) even if there's no one sitting on the other side. The hard plastic benches are very durable too: I sat on one side while playing a half-hour game of Snakes & Ladders with the boys, and noticed that my bench sagged a little at the center. It's most likely not built to hold adults, but I'm sure I could easily fix this. Also, I could sit on the sides of the benches without causing any bending anywhere. As for the kids, they didn't have a hard time getting in and out, as the bench's height is just right for them too. They probably won't outgrow it for 5 years or so.

It's a snap to assemble, and didn't take me 5 minutes off-the-box to put together. Knocking it down for storage is even easier, though I found the white plastic locks (under the tabletop) a bit thin. Well, they probably won't snap without excess pressure, unless one presses too hard, or bends it the wrong way.

The yellow tabletop is so easy to clean. Crayon and pencil marks can be wiped away with ease. And its bold red, blue, and yellow are a perfect match for my kids' Little Tikes slide. I should've bought this bench table sooner! I highly recommend it!
