Be careful

We purchased this product so we could haul 4 bikes at the same time we are towing a popup camper. The tow vehicle is a 2008 Aspen SUV. In that situation there are some options but they are limited. We also wanted something we could use whether or not we are towing the camper, so a camper-mounted rack was out. The good news is that 4 bikes fit on the rack with very little problem - I rotated the handlebars on bike #1 90 degress to help the puzzle fit but that was the only modification. The bad news is, when we arrived at our destination there was some damage to the rear door of our vehicle, where the lower bar rests. That is a lot of weight, and apparently that part of the door could not handle it. There are a couple small dents, which are not exceedingly hideous but are noticable. I am considering adding some kind of buffer to that area, something that can absorb / distrubute the weight without incurring further damage to the door. Anybody have any suggestions?

Review of Allen Deluxe 4-Bike Trunk Rack

I purchased this in June 2008 to carry 4 mountain bikes, mainly for use on the back of my 4Runner while towing a tent trailer to some mountain camping areas. I went this route rather than purchasing a roof mounted bike rack on the car or trailer for a couple reasons. First, the roof mounted racks were too high for my wife to get the bikes on / off, and we wanted the versatility of using the racks with or without the trailer.The setup was very straightforward. Just unfolded the unit out of the box, and attached it to the rear of the car with the two top straps. Then adjusted to the correct height, and attached and adjusted the other straps. The unit is heavy, a good thing as it is also very strong and seems to easily deal with the weight of 4 bikes. We fit the 4 bikes with no issues, and used it to go camping a couple weeks ago. We went over 200 miles, sometimes over rough terrain and bumps, and the rack performed fine throughout.

Wow, great product!

When you consider all the steps to assemble it, it's actually very simple. I get easily frustrated with instructions, and these were pretty good.The product is solid. I use it on a 2001 Chrysler Town and Country and have no problems. Even though it says not to do so, I'm able to open my tailgate with it attached. I use it with 2 adult bikes, 1 kid's bike, and 1 bike trailer (the 1-wheel type that hook on the back of an adult bike).I looked hard for the right 4-bike mount rack, and I'm overjoyed with this one. Now if I can just move from LA to a safer place before someone steals my bikes from my rack while we're in In-n-Out...

All Clad versus Calphalon One

I own both All Clad and Calphalon One. I know there are a lot of All Clad vs. Calphalon One discussions/debates. My personal experience is both are really good and you can't go wrong with any one of them. I am not a professional cook - so it's purely a point of view from a person who wants to learn more in cooking.A few points:1. Clean-up - I think Calphalon One is easier to clean, just soak it in hot sudsy water for 15-30 mins and the remains will fall off. Even I didn't make a mess, I need to clean my All Clad with Bar Keeper's Friend (BKF). I use BKF on my Calphalon One only when the mess is really bad.2. Time to heat up - For some reason, my All Clad pan heats up quicker than my Calphalon One pan. But the time difference is very small.3. Level of "stickiness" - To me, changing from non-stick to stainless steel and hard anodized aluminum is smooth and easy. As long as you follow instructions, sunny-side-up eggs do not stick on both brands. I have yet to try scrambled eggs (I think I shouldn't try, but I am really curious)...4. Handle - I read that some people have problems with All Clad handles. To me, no problem at all! Maybe I am used to holding the pan back-handed and the All Clad handle just fits nicely. Calphalon One handle is also great - haven't heard any complaints at all.5. Aesthetic issue - Since this line of All Clad is stainless steel (very shiny), it will show its normal wear and tear easier when compared to Calphalon One, which has a much darker color & non-shiny surface. Just look at your stainless steel kettle and you may get what I mean - It's just very hard to avoid those normal wear and tear and it shows because the surface is shiny. I only use wooden utensils and no steel wool nor abrasive cleansers! Of course, those normal wear and tear will not affect the quality of the cookware.Conclusion: You can't go wrong with any one of them. The price difference, in general, is very small between the 2 lines. Personally, I prefer Calphalon One since it's much easier to clean and it doesn't show normal wear and tear easily (relative to All Clad stainless steel). And I don't mind waiting for just a little bit longer for the pan to heat up.Hope this helps someone in making purchase decisions!Added on June 15, 2009: After 3 years, I sold all my Calphalon One and got everything in All Clad, particularly the LTD line. The LTD line has a dark finish, so it doesn't really show normal wear and tear easily.In fact, both pans are of quality, however, my Calphalon One for some reason got some stains that I am unable to remove, even with Bar Keepers' Friend. Also, Williams Sonoma discontinued selling Calphalon One - Nonstick version this April and the anodized version with the steel cover about 1-2 years ago.

Part of a Set

This pan was part of a larger set. Although I mostly cook for one, I find this pan small for a saute. I would have rather had a 3-quart pan.With that said, I still have to praise the All-Clad quality. The pan heats evenly and quickly. Clean up is easy because I can put it into the dishwasher.

Best cookware

What can you say? All-Clad is the best cookware ever made. I am gradually getting a setting for my two adult children. I give one each Christmas. Expensive? Yes. But....you get what you pay for. Will last a lifetime and is guaranteed a lifetime. Vendor delivered very promptly. Will buy from them again if their price is the lowest.
